Six years of IncrediPaul

Six years ago this week, I was putting the finishing touches on something I had no idea what it would become.

Behind the scenes, 10 years ago, I had been helping with different conferences and workshops for a few years after graduating college and actually helped form an alumni association for a group that Iowa State was the lead institution for, called LSAMP (Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation). It is dedicated to helping underrepresented people pursue research while in undergrad and go on to get graduate degrees.

I’ve always loved research and I loved the organization so I co-founded the IINSPIRE-LSAMP Alumni Committee in 2017 to give back and help support their conference every year. I didn’t know it then, but this would be the foundation for 2 more organizations I would found in 2020.

IncrediPaul launched on April 18, 2020 (also my birthday) with a LinkedIn post and a different logo (check it out below) than I have today with a vision of helping with professional development. The finetuning to leadership and launching a podcast didn’t come until almost 2 years late in January 2022.

Now, if you had told me 4 years ago that I would be a top 10% globally ranked podcaster, I would have definitely laughed it off as something unbelievable!

Not because I didn’t think it was possible, but more because 4 years ago I didn’t even know if I even wanted to be a podcaster. I had just started podcasting at the beginning of 2022 and was releasing episodes once a month for few reasons.

1. I was busy focusing on speaking/ leading workshops at universities

2. I only started podcasting because multiple people assumed I was from my logo

3. I was also building out a national nonprofit at the same time

Now reflecting back, it’s crazy to me at what I’ve been able to do with podcasting and IncrediPaul as a whole and so humbled to have the platform that I do, but I’m always pushing for more and this year is no different.

I’m continuing to grow and develop in my corporate life and transitioned teams with my current company to continue to grow in the R&D food world. At the same time, I continue to be more intentional about speaking and collaborating on podcasts outside outside of my own. I’ve been on Tech Jobbers Podcast and Mastering Engineering Leadership Podcast so far this year and a couple more that are recorded and are awaiting release and still more to be interviewed for!

I also have a speaking opportunity open to the public hosted by friends at Melanin Science and catered to introverted people that you can learn more and sign for below. It’s completely free!

I launched a Podcast Community in January and still building that out, but I wanted something that catered to the root of what IncrediPaul stands for which is empowerment and growth, so I’m launching IncrediPaul L.I.F.E. later this year!

This is something I’ve been sitting on for over a year because honestly, I didn’t have time, but now I’m excited to share it with you all! Life stands for Leadership, Investing, Fitness, and Expenses. It is a group mentorship program catered to Gen Z but open to everyone! I realize that coaching is necessary but expensive and I wanted to create something that was helpful but didn’t sacrifice the value from me.

Seeking the Future, Loving the Present

All good things come to an end…

No, I’m not stopping the newsletter or IncrediPaul.

I am back on the road and will be gone more than I’m home this month for a variety of reasons that I’ll highlight later, so look out for that! While I still travel more than the average person, it’s a far cry from where I was just a few years ago.

I used to average over 100 hotel stays a year, maxing out status in just about every travel category imaginable. It was fun, but I realized early last year that my identity was rooted in being "someone who travels" rather than "someone who is present."

Actually, the fact that I can now call not traveling "good" is huge progress for me!

The "a-ha" moment happened when work travel finally slowed down. At first, I felt that familiar itch of anxiety. But instead of rushing to book the next flight, I used that time to actually get to know my coworkers outside of formal meetings. I learned about their roles and their lives, and suddenly, it became a joy to walk into the office because there were people there truly looking forward to seeing me.

That transition continued last summer. I stopped waiting for the next trip and started enjoying my life in Nashville.

My church small group played a huge part in that...

They’ve been so supportive, always checking in on me and genuinely cheering on my work as a podcaster and speaker (and they even rock the merch!). For the first time, this city feels like home because I’m actually known here.

I’m still a work in progress. I still average a couple trips a month, but my perspective has shifted. I’ve stopped looking past my current moment toward the next destination.

Maybe it’s not travel for you. Maybe there’s something else you’re longing for...

A goal or a "next step" that prevents you from being content with the life you have right now. There’s nothing wrong with striving for more, unless it robs you of your joy today. I’m learning that while there will always be another trip, another event, or another podcast, I have to appreciate the life God has given me in this moment.

I’m thankful for the opportunities to travel, but I’m equally thankful when He keeps me planted for a season.

Finding that delicate balance between being intentional for the future and content with the present has made me enjoy life so much more. It’s a key part of how I choose to Be Incredible!

TL;DR I’m back on the road this month, but with a brand-new perspective. After years of 100+ hotel stays, I realized my identity was in the travel rather than being present. By slowing down, I’ve found a deep sense of home in Nashville and a new joy in the office. I’m learning to balance striving for the future with being content in the "now"... and that’s how I’m choosing to Be Incredible.

Energy is your currency. Are you overspending?

The last few weeks have been interesting in the best way possible.

I haven’t traveled at all. Instead, I’ve had the chance to really dig into my community right here in Nashville.

This has meant connecting with coworkers, my church family, and close friends. It’s been a solid reminder of how vital in-person connection is, but it also taught me a massive lesson: You need to be the leader of your own energy.

Here’s how this week looked:

My extended team of about 30 of us under the same director, finally gathered in person for the first time in two years. We had people flying in from the West Coast all the way to Toronto.

The excitement was real!

From Monday to Thursday, it was non-stop. We were out the door early for activities and I didn’t get back until 9:30 PM at the earliest every single night.

Now, as an ambivert, this pushed me to my absolute limits and it made me realized something about myself:

When I’m around people with similar interests, it fuels me. But in large groups where that alignment isn’t as tight, it can be draining.

In the past, I would have just "powered through" and ended the week completely burnt out.

This time, I chose a different play:

• Micro-Recharges: I took small windows of time between activities to unplug and just be.

• Strategic Socializing: I was intentional about seeking out the people who energized me, including my work best friend who was in town this week.

• The Friday Reset: I protected my peace and recharged more by staying home all day Friday and most of Saturday.

Relationships and sacrifices are necessary for growth, but you can’t show up well if you’re running on empty. It’s all about prioritization and balance.

I Wasn’t Feeling It Today

Have you ever started then restarted something over and over again just to think maybe I should skip out this week or take a shortcut?

This was one of those days for me.

Writing this newsletter…

I write the newsletter the a day or 2 before it comes out (writing this on Sunday) and wasn’t feeling very inspired and thought for a minute that I could just have an AI tool write it all for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I use AI tools all the time, but for me I use it refine my voice not to create my voice.

In the past when I’ve started from the beginning with the idea, it didn’t sound like me and actually took more work to refine it than me starting from scratch, plus it allows me to exercise the creative parts of my brain.

Then it got me thinking about how this was a lesson in discipline and it was important I wrote it anyway even if newsletter came out a little meta, writing a newsletter about struggling to write a newsletter..

But enough about that, let’s get to the point!

It’s the days that we feel like it the least, that it’s important to dig deep and do it anyway.

That’s the definition of discipline.

It’s easy to wait until you feel motivated, it’s much harder to push through and do it anyway. One thing that can help you on the days that you especially don’t feel like it is mentorship.

Someone to come along side you and spur to keep going even when you don’t feel like. Notice I’m focused on the feeling and not exhaustion. There’s value in taking breaks, but it’s also important to keep the promises you made to yourself, which is discipline.

Trust me, I’m no way perfect at this, but I’ve gotten better over the last couple of years especially. I’ve been more intentional about reaching out to people whether formally or informally to help support all the things I do.

This happens to tie in perfectly with this week’s episode despite the fact it was recorded months ago.

I dove deep into Mentorship with Gabby Coe who is a Fellow a Northrop Grumman and a Podcaster herself and shared valuable things to consider when choosing a mentor

So whether you feel like it or not, this episode is probably for you if you’ve ever had questions about the value of mentorship or maybe you’re not quite sure what’s next.

Let’s be intentional about reaching out for mentorship or surrounding ourselves with people who keep pushing us when we rather take the easy way out.

Leading Yourself Through the AI Inflection Point

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

It’s a question that has been asked since the beginning of time.

When I was growing up, the answers were predictable: firefighter, astronaut, doctor, lawyer, etc.

But if you haven’t been paying attention lately, the answers might shock you. Today, teenagers are aspiring to be YouTubers, content creators, or influencers, which careers that didn't even exist 20 years ago. (In fact, YouTube didn't even launch until 2005!)

A lot has changed in two decades!

This shift got me thinking about my own journey and reflecting on the many stories I’ve heard from guests on the podcast.

I noticed a common theme almost immediately: People rarely stay in the career they envisioned as kids, or even the one they studied for in college. 

But why is that?

The truth is, the future is a mystery to everyone. As leaders, it’s vital to have a vision for the organization, but it’s even more critical to have a vision for yourself.

The best leaders I’ve ever worked with shared one trait: They led themselves better than they led others. 

They were disciplined, they were hopeful, and they inspired people to achieve more than they ever thought possible on their own.

Right now, we are at a massive inflection point with the rise of AI. I’ve been having a lot of deep conversations about this lately (stay tuned for new podcast episodes are coming soon!), and I know there is plenty of apprehension.

But with any technological leap, the most important thing we can do is use our voices to shape how that technology serves us.

AI is here to stay, whether we like it or not. The real question is: Are we going to let it think for us, or are we going to engage with it to become better humans?

The Path Forward: Lead with Curiosity

The mystery of the future isn’t a reason to freeze, but it’s a reason to double down on what you can control. Leading yourself through this shift starts with a mindset of expansion, not replacement. Instead of outsourcing your creativity to an algorithm, use it as a springboard. Let’s use these tools to free up our time for more empathy, more deep thinking, and the kind of human connection that no machine can replicate.

If you’re feeling the pressure to have your entire 10-year plan figured out, take a breath. It’s okay not to see the whole staircase yet. 

Most of the successful leaders I know didn't see their current roles coming, either.

Here are three steps to take this week:

• Follow the Spark: What excites you today? Follow that curiosity without worrying if it fits into a "traditional" career path.

• Ask the "Dangerous" Questions: Don't be afraid to be the one in the room asking "How does this work?" or "How can we make this better?"

• Be Intentional with Your Circle: Reach out to one person in your network this week just to learn. Growth happens in the gaps between what we know and who we meet.

Hold onto hope, stay disciplined in your curiosity, and remember—the best way to predict the future is to be an active participant in building it.

TL;DR: Career paths aren't linear, and that’s okay! In this AI-driven era, leading yourself is your greatest asset. Don’t outsource your thinking—use AI to amplify your human creativity and empathy. You don’t need a 10-year plan to lead effectively today. Follow your curiosity, ask the tough questions, and lean into your network. The future is a mystery, but you are the one building it. Stay disciplined, stay hopeful, and stay incredible!

4 years of Podcasting Taught me This Uncomfortable Truth

The older I get, the more I value consistency over intensity.

Whether that’s work, life, or relationships, it’s easy to get fixated on something new, exciting, or intense, and lose sight on the things that are consistent and are more meaningful long-term.

Before I start anything new, the first thing I ask myself is, “Can I be consistent with this?” and if the answer is no, then I don’t do it.

For those who have been following me for a while, you may remember that I had another podcast called Six Minute Saturdays which I released concurrently with the IncrediPaul Leadership for 33 straight weeks. Life happened a couple years ago, so I took a hiatus from it and eventually cancelled it. I realized that I didn’t need another podcast to release solo episodes which is a reason why I’ve been doing that more consistently since last May and that has been great.

I have thought about starting other podcasts, but I can’t put in the amount of effort into it for it to be as consistent as I would like, so I’ve helped with producing a couple other shows. Maybe one day I’ll start another podcast, but that’s on pause for now even though I have a couple ideas for podcasts. Happy to share them if anyone is looking for an idea for a podcast.

In lieu of starting my own podcast, I’m being more intentional about helping others find their voice with podcasting and launched the IncrediPaul Podcast Community since the beginning of the year. It came from various people asking questions about podcasting and realizing that a lot of people have no idea where to start, or don’t have the support to keep going with a podcast.

There’s a lot of noise and so many things that you could be doing with a podcast and yeah there are full time podcasters, but I don’t think people really know what that really means.

Podcasting is a tool and no one makes money just from simply having a podcast. You make money from advertising on the show or whatever platforms attached to it or selling products. But before you can even reach that point, there’s a lot effort needed to be effective even if you have a large platform. Every podcaster who’s been doing it for a year understands Social Media likes and views don’t immediately translate to podcast streams and vice versa.

It takes time and consistency and proud to say that even though I never really set out to be a podcaster and didn’t really start calling myself a podcaster until last year (even though I’ve been doing it 4 years), I’m a top 10% Globally ranked podcast and have gotten to interact with so many incredible people because of podcasting.

So, if you’re looking to start a podcast or you know someone who needs support with their podcast and you want someone who’s been consistent and shows up on good days, ice storm days, or whatever life throws your way, then I’m your guy.

If you want someone really flashy or a lot of fluff, then that’s not me but I do also know those people and if you’re willing to pay that cost I can connect you with them.

59 days of madness (and what I learned)

We’re only 2 months into the new year, and it has been off to a fairly busy start.. even for me. For those who are newer to the madness that my life can be at times, WELCOME! For everyone else, you’re probably not surprised.

I hit the ground running with travel and went to Wisconsin for my engineering job for a week and it was “warm” for them in the 30’s but it was in the 60’s in Nashville and that was the beginning of my “luck” for the year

It was a successful week and was home for a week and guest starred on another podcast and you can see that episode below with my new friend Chris Schwenk who’s the host of the Tech Jobber Podcast. 

Following this week, I had another trip for my engineering job to Toronto and that trip was successful as well. The week wrapped up and I planned to fly out that Saturday after exploring the city, but ice storm that gripped the South and hit Nashville had other plans. My flight was cancelled and rebooked to Sunday. Much longer story that I’ll probably talk about in a future newsletter, but ended up being in Houston for 4 days and fortunately got to catch up with a couple friends that live there.

The following week, I was in town and recorded for another podcast (Coming Soon!). The following week, I had a short trip to Alabama for my engineering job that was mostly successful but a long day.

Two weeks ago I went to Nevada for my engineering job for majority of the week then went to California on Thursday evening to speak/attend a conference on Friday & Saturday and that’s where the story for the missing suitcase from last week came in. Funny enough, I also had missing luggage in Houston just a few weeks prior so I was prepared for this. Conference was Incredible and including some pictures below!

This past week, I finally caught my breath at home. I hit a networking event, caught up with interns from two different summers on the same day (talk about timing!), attended a church small group, and even squeezed in a Jazz performance all in 4 days while working during day!

Obviously this isn’t everything I’ve done, but some things I wanted to highlight I was doing while still keeping things going with the podcast, newsletter, and social media (shout out to Ambassadors support)!

So why share all of this?

If these first eight weeks have taught me anything, it’s that you can’t control the weather, the airlines, or where your suitcase ends up, but you can always control your response.

I’ve realized that being "prepared for the madness" isn't just about having an extra change of clothes in my carry-on (though that would have helped me). It’s about building a mindset where a flight cancellation isn't a disaster instead it’s an unexpected dinner with friends in Houston. It's about finding the "success" in a long, grueling day in Alabama or the "warmth" in a 30-degree Wisconsin day.

But more importantly, I share this because, in the middle of all the logistics and the missing bags, there was a common thread: The people. From guesting on Chris’s podcast to the "random" timing of seeing two different years of interns on the same day, I’m reminded that we aren't meant to do life (or business) in a vacuum. The madness is only worth it because of the connections we make along the way. Whether it’s a conference in Cali or a small group at church, the "magic" happens in the moments you didn't see coming, but only if you’re resilient enough to look for them.

The Lesson: Resilience isn't just a "survival skill" for travel; it’s the secret sauce for our relationships, too.

A Masterclass in Not Losing Your Cool

What do you do when things don’t go as planned?

Do you completely shut down or are you able to take a minute or two for regrouping then figure out your plan of attack?

Real-time example from just a few days ago when I had to figure things out on the fly…

I had been in Reno, Nevada for work all week and was flying to California for a conference on Thursday night.

Not a typical week for me, but also not foreign either. I originally had my flight into San Diego and it was a direct flight, but then my flight got delayed. While I was waiting to board, I realized that I had somehow forgotten to book a rental car.

“No problem,” so I thought. “I’ll just book a rental and I’ll be squared away.”

Well, when I went to make the reservation, I got some disturbing news…

I refreshed my phone several times in disbelief to learn that there were no available rental cars. After about a minute of shear panic (Proof that I’m human)

I went through a few different options, but then finally decided on rebooking my flight to fly into LAX instead of San Diego.

I confirmed with the gate agent that I wouldn’t have any issues getting my bag and then sat back down and worked on things for about an hour until my new flight was going to take off.

I was now connecting through Las Vegas, which I didn’t love, but it made life easier on me in the long run so I could live with it. But now, another issue was brewing...

This flight was also delayed and by the time I left, my flight wasn’t scheduled to land until after my connecting flight was already going to begin boarding. I was praying hard that I would land in the same terminal.

As we got up to the gate after landing, I watched in horror as we pulled into the C gates and I had to go to the B gates off in the distance. Luckily the flight attendants made an announcement to stay seated if you didn’t have a tight connection (S/O to Southwest!) and I did my part of telling people my flight was already boarding as I squeezed my way through and got ready to make a run for it.

I booked it down the gates for about a minute before running out of gas, slowing down to a jog, and finally making it to my connecting flight with minutes to spare. I landed in LAX safely and waited for my bags to come out so I could head to the hotel for the conference I was speaking at the next day. I kept waiting... and then bags stopped coming out.

My bag never made it to LAX.

I discovered my bag was in San Diego and would be flown out in the morning to Irvine. The only problem? I was speaking the next day, the conference started in the morning, and it was currently midnight.

Fortunately, my bag made it to town by noon. I was able to get changed and ready for my talk, and I actually recounted this whole saga to kick things for my talk that I did for my nonprofit.

The Lesson

Here is the thing about resilience: It’s not about avoiding the chaos; it’s about how you manage yourself while you're standing in the middle of it. If I had spiraled when I realized I had no car, I never would have made the pivot to LAX. If I had given up when I saw the terminal map in Vegas, I’d still be in Nevada.

Resilience is a muscle. You build it by choosing to look for the next "right move" instead of dwelling on the "wrong turn." When you stay calm and lean on your resources (and some helpful flight attendants), you'll find that you're capable of handling way more than you think.

Stop Managing Time. Start Filtering Decisions.

“How do you manage being an entrepreneur and an engineer? And do you like one more than the other?”

I get this question a lot.

Usually right after someone hears that I’m both a podcaster and an engineer.

And honestly… it’s a fair question.

Both can be demanding. Both take energy. Both take focus.

Another version I hear is this:

“Would you ever become a full time podcaster?”

My answer? I already am.

I release episodes every week. That is real work. That is real commitment.

But I know what people are really asking.

They’re asking if I would ever stop engineering completely.

And I’ve thought about that… a lot.

I’ve done quite a bit in my career so far. I’m a three time founder post college. I also helped start a student organization during my sophomore year at Iowa State University. I’ve worked across multiple companies Five billion-dollar Fortune 500 companies in various roles based out of 4 different cities.

At my core, I’m a problem solver.

A systems thinker.

Someone who looks at something and asks, “How can this be better?”

That shows up in engineering.

And it shows up in leadership, coaching, and entrepreneurship.

Right now, I don’t see myself stepping away from engineering.

Why?

Because I get to solve technical problems and people problems.

That combination energizes me.

Also… I bring some personality to engineering teams. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told.

But understanding why I do both doesn’t explain how I do both.

So let’s talk about that.

The 3 Question Filter I Use

I’ve had to become extremely intentional with my priorities.

That means saying no to good things so I can say yes to great things.

Here are the three questions I run almost everything through:

1. Is it required?
Do I actually have to do this? Or can someone else do it just as well, or better?

This question pushed me to build teams more intentionally. In nonprofits before. And now with IncrediPaul.

2. Does it have a return?
Is there a real benefit? A return on my time?

It’s easy to keep doing things just because you’ve always done them. That doesn’t mean they’re working.

3. Does it have a reward?
Do I enjoy it?

Let’s be real. Entrepreneurship includes plenty of things I don’t want to do but still need to do.

The key is balance. You can’t optimize only for enjoyment. You can’t optimize only for ROI. And you definitely can’t optimize only for obligation.

All three matter.

Choosing the Right Engineering Environments

On the engineering side, I’ve become very selective about companies and leaders.

This is my fifth company since graduating.

And the reason is simple.

If I’m not aligned with leadership, or I’m not growing, I move.

Growth matters too much for me to stay comfortable.

The Real Secret

There isn’t more time.

There’s only better decisions.

Stop choosing between your passions and start filtering your priorities. Being productive isn’t about "finding more time" it’s about making better decisions through a systems-thinking lens.

To manage a dual career, run every task through these three pillars:

1. Requirement: Do I actually have to do this? (Delegate or delete).

2. Return: Is there a tangible ROI for my time? (Audit your habits).

3. Reward: Do I actually enjoy it? (Don't optimize for obligation alone).

You don’t have to quit one to be "full-time" at the other. If you are showing up and doing the work every week, you are already there. The secret isn't time management; it's alignment.

Power Without Character Is Not Leadership

Well he did again and I wish I could say that I was surprised but I’m not sure anything could surprise me anymore when it comes to him files or no files…

The “he” I’m referring to is none other than the President of the United States… Donald J. Trump

He did something racist and the White House tried to gaslight us, but no one was having that so now it’s deleted, but like I said not shocking to me with all he’s done so far.

But it does make me sad to see someone that’s in the highest political office in United States and arguably the world behaving in a way that would be ridiculed by teenagers. I won’t share what he did but a quick google search and you’ll probably find it.

The only thing I’ll share is that it involved the Obamas.

Poor leadership makes me sad and it’s one of the reasons I built IncrediPaul to become the leader that I always wanted.

Obviously this didn’t happen overnight and leadership is a journey and I don’t think anyone truly arrives because once you think you have, then you start to drift.

And this is where I want to be very clear about something.

If you are reading this and thinking, “I don’t want to become that kind of leader,” then you should not have to figure this out alone.

Leadership is learned in community. It is sharpened through mentorship, honest conversations, and being surrounded by people who actually care about becoming better humans, not just more impressive resumes.

Rejection is a rough draft.

Sometimes you can do everything right and still face rejection.

In STEM, we’re sold a formula:

Work hard + get the grades + check the boxes = success.

But when the boxes are all checked and the door still slams shut, it messes with your head.

You start wondering if you were ever "good enough" to begin with.

A few years ago, I was exactly there. I’d crushed a high-level internship in consumer packaged goods. I did the work, took on extra projects, and saw the products I helped build on grocery shelves. I was certain a full-time offer was coming.

It didn’t.

With graduation months away and no backup plan, I had to scramble. But that rejection forced me to face a hard truth:

Your work doesn’t always speak for itself. 

While my technical output was solid, I realized I hadn't clearly communicated my ambition or my desire to stay. I assumed the results were enough; they weren't.

I didn't get smarter overnight. I just got intentional. I refined my resume, practiced my pitch, and walked into career fairs with a plan. Most importantly, I refused to let one "no" become my identity.

That’s what resilience actually is. It’s not toxic positivity; it’s feeling the hit, processing the sting, and choosing to move anyway. I call this the REST framework, a strategy to help you move through setbacks instead of getting stuck in them.

Rejection isn’t proof you’re incapable

It’s proof you’re in the arena. If you’re in a season of "no," remember:

You aren't behind.

You’re becoming!

There is a massive shift happening in the corporate world right now. For decades, the "climb to the top" was described in war metaphors. You had to fight for a seat at the table. You had to battle against bias. You had to crush the competition.

True leadership isn’t just about professional strategy; it’s about positive psychology—the mental grit to find a path forward when the map has been completely destroyed.

The Leadership Crisis No One Wants to Talk About

I planned to talk about discipline and consistency in this week’s newsletter and that is still what this week’s podcast episode is about.

But my heart is heavy, and I cannot move forward without acknowledging what is happening around us.

Right now, the state of leadership in this country feels deeply broken on multiple levels. We are witnessing name calling, intimidation, and a troubling disregard for human life from those in positions of power. This is not about political preference. This is about the erosion of values that are supposed to hold us together.

In Minneapolis, Renee Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen, a mother of three, and a poet, was shot and killed during a federal operation involving ICE. Her death has shaken communities and raised serious questions about accountability, due process, and the use of force.

This isn’t the only story in the last 30 days but it’s by far the biggest and the most footage around it of late, so I’ll focus on this story despite so many other things going on that can quickly become overwhelming.

When the government harms its own citizens, silence is not neutrality.

Silence is permission.

If you have followed my work for any amount of time, you know I do not support leadership rooted in fear, bullying, or unchecked power.

Terrorizing people in the name of democracy is not leadership. It is the opposite of it.

So what do we do as citizens of the United States?

First, we pay attention. We refuse to look away. Awareness matters because what becomes normal becomes acceptable.

Second, we demand accountability. That means transparent investigations, due process, and equal application of the law. No badge, title, or position should place someone above responsibility.

But most importantly, we come together.

Not as political parties. Not as online mobs. Not as enemies.

As Americans

We cannot allow violence and tyranny to become the default language of leadership. We cannot allow fear to divide us into silence or hatred. The strength of this country has always come from people choosing values over power and humanity over control.

So here’s what I think we should do:

Have hard conversations without dehumanizing each other. Hold leaders accountable without resorting to violence. Speak up for justice even when it is uncomfortable. And refuse to let cruelty, intimidation, or authoritarian behavior define who we are.

America can be better than this. But it can only do that when we come together.

TL;DR

Leadership in the U.S. is failing when citizens like Renee Good lose their lives without clear accountability. This is not about politics. It is about human life, due process, and shared values. We must stay aware, demand accountability, reject violence and tyranny, and come together as Americans to protect the principles that are supposed to define this country.

This is your year to thrive, to lead, to make a massive impact.

I’ve been thinking more and more but at what cost?

We talk a lot about the success, the accolades, and the big wins, but we rarely talk about the well-being piece that actually makes those wins last.

Hard truth is that many of us are operating in a way that is completely unsustainable.

I see it all the time: high-achievers giving everything to a project, eating badly, and skipping sleep just to cross the finish line, only to crash and burn the second it’s over.

If you aren’t healthy whether it’s physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Your leadership has an expiration date!

The "Boring Break" Strategy

I’ll be the first to admit that I struggle with this. Sometimes I feel guilty when I’m not doing something.

We’ve been programmed to produce, produce, produce. But over the last year, I’ve been more intentional about "Prioritizing Paul" before I hit a breaking point.

One of the most powerful things you can do is schedule "time to do nothing." Whether it’s a 15-minute "boring break" to ground yourself or 45 minutes of literal rest, you have to unplug from the machine. If you don't choose to rest, your body will eventually choose it for you.

You Are Not Your Labels

For my Gen Z and younger millennial readers out there, I see you. We’re dealing with a level of digital noise that’s only getting worse.

It’s easy to feel like you aren’t "good enough" when you're comparing your behind-the-scenes to everyone else's highlight reel.

But remember this: Your identity isn't written in stone.

You don't have to stay stuck in the "reactive phase" where you only see yourself through the labels other people put on you.

You have the power to shape who you are and who you want to become.

TL;DR:

Health is the Foundation: A leader who isn't well can't lead a healthy organization. Stop the Drift: If you're only working in high-stress peaks, you're headed for burnout. Schedule Rest: Literally put "do nothing" on your calendar. Own Your Identity: Don't let social media or old labels define your potential.

HOW TO EFFECTIVELY SET GOALS IN 2026

Seems like we hear it every year.. this is your year, it’s going to be your best year yet, or last year for 2025 I said it was my year to thrive (because it rhymes).

I’ve embraced being a little corny if naming my company IncrediPaul wasn’t enough..

Well, welcome to 2026. We are officially a few days into the "New Year, New Me" season where everyone is diving into the gym and setting massive resolutions.

But are we all just being delusional, or is there a way to actually make these goals stick?

Hard truth is that most people stop growing the moment they leave a structured environment like high school or college. When you don't have a teacher telling you what to do, it's easy to just.. drift.

But I truly believe there is no such thing as maintaining status quo.

We are either growing or we’re regressing.

If you want to actually sustain your growth this year, you need right framework. Here is a slight shift to your mindset that can help you be incredible in 2026!

Product vs. Process

Most of us are great at setting Product Goals. These are the big, shiny things: "I want to lose 10 pounds," "I want to be a millionaire," or "I want to write a book".

But the difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is that successful people focus on Process Goals. These are the things you can do every single day.

• If your product goal is to lose weight, your process goal is walking for 10 minutes or doing five pushups today.

• If your product goal is a promotion, your process goal is finishing that certification or reading 10 pages of a leadership book.

You still need to do the work, especially when you don't "feel" like it!

My advice?

Keep it to no more than three new goals at a time. It’s hard to change your entire life at once, so be intentional about where you put your energy.

TL;DR: Stop drifting and start being intentional about your growth. Balance your big "Product Goals" (the what) with daily "Process Goals" (the how). Limit yourself to three major changes at once to stay sustained. Growth doesn't happen overnight; it's a layered process

REFLECTION CHANGES EVERYTHING

We’re right in that quiet space between Christmas and a new year.

And if I’m being honest, this is the part of the year most people skip.

We rush to set goals.
We rush to say next year will be different.
We rush past the most important step.

REFLECTION!

Not the Instagram caption kind.
The real kind that forces you to sit with what worked, what didn’t, and who you became along the way.

This year stretched me.
In ways I expected and in ways I absolutely didn’t.

I traveled a little less, but learned more.
I simplified my focus, but deepened my purpose.
I said yes to things that mattered and stepped back from things that no longer fit.

That wasn’t easy.

Letting go never is.
Especially when it’s tied to identity, responsibility, or people you care deeply about.

One of the biggest lessons this year was realizing that building something meaningful requires seasons of focus.

You can care about many things.
But you cannot pour into everything at the same level forever.

Another lesson was learning how to sit with grief instead of trying to rush past it.

We don’t talk about grief enough.
Especially the quiet kinds.
The kind that doesn’t always have a funeral attached to it.

I learned that grief is a language.
And like any language, you don’t become fluent overnight.

This year also reminded me how important authenticity is to my life.
Not performative authenticity.
Not polished vulnerability.

Real authenticity.

Showing up the same way whether you’re on a stage, on a podcast, at work, or grabbing food with friends.

If I had to summarize 2025 in one sentence, it would be this:

I learned how to be present while still moving forward.

That’s what reflection gives you.
Clarity without rushing.
Perspective without pressure.

In this week’s episode, I walk through what this year taught me about leadership, purpose, grief, focus, happiness, and what it really means to be incredible when no one is watching.

MAKING YOUR DESTINY HAPPEN

Ever feel like life is happening to you?

Not because you are lazy.

Not because you lack ambition.

But because no one ever taught you how to intentionally make your destiny happen!

Most people are busy… very few are intentional. We work hard. We check boxes. We move from one milestone to the next. And then one day they pause and ask a heavy question.

When you avoid those questions, you do not stay neutral.

And drifting always costs more in the long run. Here is the part most people miss. Failure is not the enemy of destiny. Avoidance is.

Spend more time getting to know yourself.

What excites you? What drains you? What are you willing to sacrifice? What are you not?

That self awareness builds confidence.

Happiness is not accidental.

It is built.

Defined by you.

Are you aware of what you’re saying to yourself?

It’s not the easiest thing but it can make a big difference

“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right”

Our self-talk and limiting beliefs shows up when we least expect it. The only way to change it is to be intentional about what we’re saying and if it’s helping us or hurting us.

Had a situation come up about a week ago that I talked about it in this week’s Podcast episode. I was already tapping out before things even got started.

It wasn’t until the next day that I realized that I was placing a lid on my potential and stopping myself from something much more.

Fortunately I have a team that helps push me on this but it was really on me to change what I was saying to myself.

The One Thing that Changes Everything

What if I told you there is one thing that makes you not only a better leader…

But also a better teammate and honestly a better human?

And no, it is not a new productivity hack or a morning routine that starts at 4:15 AM.
It is something way simpler and way more powerful.

But before I tell you what it is, let me take you into a conversation I had recently.

I sat down with Lori Holt and we went deep. Not surface level leadership talk. I mean the kind of conversation that makes you stop, breathe, and say, “Oh… this is the work.”

We talked about the real muscle behind effective leadership. The ability to know yourself, manage yourself, and understand the people around you. Lori shared her journey navigating challenging environments, setting healthy boundaries, and figuring out how to show up authentically even when it is not easy.

She walked me through her transition into a more creative leadership space where her mission is to unlock the potential in others. And I loved hearing how she encourages people to bring their whole selves into the work they do. Gifts, quirks, dreams, all of it.

And that is when it hit me.
This one thing kept showing up at every stage of her story.

Alright I will not tease you anymore.

The one thing that changes everything?

Emotional intelligence.

It is the quiet superpower behind self awareness.
It is the fuel for healthy boundaries.
It is the reason some leaders elevate people while others drain them.

Gratitude: The Leadership Skill You’re Ignoring

What does it mean to lead with gratitude?

Is it really important?

Or is it optional?

For me Leading with Gratitude is something I’m very intentional about doing and I think it’s critical because it’s made all the difference in everything I do

Why?

Because Gratitude changes your perspective and in turn makes you happier. It’s impossible to be grateful and complain at the same time!

Obviously, life has its tough moments, if you’ve followed this newsletter or my socials over the past year, you’ve heard about my struggles with navigating a divorce but despite that, life is better than it’s ever been despite how painful it was to go through that last year.

Were there things that happened that I hated, of course, but I don’t dwell on what I can’t control. I choose to focus on what I can control and that’s made all the difference!

Choosing to get BETTER instead of bitter from difficult situations.

Trust me, I know it’s a process, but it all comes down to the way our brains work and neuroplasticity.

I’m no neuroscientist but I’ve read enough books to know that our brains don’t have the remain the same forever.

We can mold and shift our thoughts, beliefs, and actions if we’re intentional about what we’re fixating on and allowing into our subconscious. What you focus on grows, and that cripple you or it can challenge you.
