We're officially in the thick of summer, and Grand Lake is showing it.

After a 4th of July weekend that gave us fireworks all weekend, plus two nights in a row on Duck Creek (thanks, Saturday storm), this weekend settles into classic July mode — hot, busy, and full of live music from one end of the lake to the other.

The weather looks like a scorcher: highs in the low 90s all weekend with a chance of scattered showers and storms. In other words, a perfect excuse to be on the water, just keep one eye on the radar so it doesn’t sneak up on you.

The big on-the-water event this weekend is MarineMax's Cheeseburgers in Paradise Raft-Up on Saturday, and Shangri-La is wall-to-wall golf with Club Championship weekend.

Lake Level - The lake level as of 8 am is 746.3 with just a couple of dam spillway gates open, and they are not moving out much water. BUT, they are moving out more than is coming in, and the lake level continues to drop and stabilize. Actually, pretty great mid-summer conditions out there, but there is still a little debris, so pay attention. Lake surface temps are in the 80s.

🧘 Wellness in the Wild at Har-Ber Village — Something new (and completely FREE) is coming to Grove this Saturday: a monthly wellness morning at Har-Ber Village, from Live Bliss Yoga and one of Oklahoma's most treasured historic sites. It kicks off with Sunrise Yoga at 7:30 AM behind the Café (all levels welcome), a guided walk through the museum grounds at 8:30, and a community picnic to finish. No experience needed, no cost — just show up.

🍔 Cheeseburgers in Paradise Raft-Up — Tie up with fellow boaters for MarineMax Grand Lake's annual Cheeseburgers in Paradise Raft-Up on Saturday! Grilled cheeseburgers, great music, and a lazy afternoon on the water — it doesn't get much more "July at Grand Lake" than that. RSVP is required, so register at marinemax.com/stores/grand-lake before you head out. And so you’ll know where to go, I guess.

🇺🇸 Stroll the Streets — Grove's Downtown Merchants are keeping the doors open late on Saturday for a Stroll the Streets late-night shopping event, and this one's got a patriotic twist as we celebrate 250 years of America. From 6:00 to 8:30 PM, wander the downtown boutiques and shops for special deals and promotions, grab some food and refreshments, and enjoy street artists and face painting along the way. A fun, easy way to spend a Saturday evening in downtown Grove.

⛳ Club Championship Weekend at Shangri-La — It's a big golf week on Monkey Island. The Junior Golf Camp wraps up with the Junior Club Championship on Thursday, there's a PXG Club Fitting Day Friday from noon to 6:00, and the Club Championship takes over the course Saturday and Sunday. The new 8-week Shangri-La Practice Club coaching series also kicks off Friday at 4:00.

🍽️ Dining News Around the Lake — A few quick updates: Speedy's Chophouse in Grove is temporarily closed while the owners regroup. South 125 Bar & Grill is now open six days a week (4:00 Monday, Wednesday–Friday; 11:00 a.m. Saturday & Sunday). And The Farmhouse in Langley (formerly The Artichoke) is aiming to open sometime next month.

📅 Mark Your Calendars — Coming up fast: the Grove Chamber Awards Gala at Indigo Sky (July 16), Night Golf at The Battlefield (July 18), Grand Jam on the Water in Duck Creek (July 24–25), the Wolf Creek Vintage Market (July 25–26), and the Wolf Creek Expo Boat Show (July 31–August 2). One heads-up: the IHRA Battle of Wolf Creek drag boat races scheduled for July 18–19 have been CANCELED.

Alrighty then… let’s do this thing!

There is nothing quite like a July 4th Independence Day Celebration at Grand Lake, and this year will be one to remember.

Everybody and everything is going bigger. All of the big fireworks shows have met or exceeded their fundraising goals, and it feels like there is more live music all over the lake than there has ever been.

And don’t forget about the special rules all weekend long in Duck Creek and Woodard Hollow… no wake means no wake!

Anyway, let’s get to what you are here for. Information. But do keep your head on a swivel and an eye on the other guy. You never know.

Lake Level - The lake level as of 9 am is 749.6 with just 2 spillway gates open, and they are not moving out much water. BUT, they are moving out more than is coming in, and the lake level is dropping and stabilizing. Lake surface temps are hitting the upper 70s. The lake is a little murky, and be aware of debris out there.

Monkey Island Fireworks at Shangri-La — Friday, July 3 (per site listing), Shangri-La Resort. Part of a full day for America's 250th — food trucks, live music, Alt Shot Horse Races golf event, fireworks visible across the Monkey Island peninsula.

Toby Keith Day Raft-up - Grab your boat and head to Woodard Hollow Saturday, July 4th (noon–4 PM) for a raft-up full of music, fun, and patriotic vibes — a pretty fitting tribute to one of our favorite Grand Lakers. Tie up with your fellow boaters and make an afternoon of it.

America 250 Family Traditions - Har-Ber Village is going all-in on the 4th this year — flag raising, a kids' bike parade down Main Street, homemade ice cream, axe throwing, and yes, a watermelon seed spitting contest (Grove's finest athletes, no doubt). Add in sack races, horseshoes, and a family movie in the afternoon, and you've got a solid way to fill your Saturday before fireworks. Runs 9 AM–3:30 PM, regular museum admission applies.

Goooood Morning!

Well then, it’s been a little wet around here. And I’m not talking about the lake!

BUT, after a few more showers and storms on this Thursday and overnight tonight, it looks like it is going to be mostly drying out for a while, leading us into a great July 4th week!

The lake is certainly going to be a hip, hop, happening place the next couple of weeks, and the 10-day forecast on my phone has a lot of sunny icons.

So we’ve got that going for us, which is nice.

With all of the rain we’ve had and up in the watershed, I do feel obligated to tell you to keep your head on a swivel and on the lookout for debris.

But I don’t have much else to say, so let’s just get to it… Here’s what you need to know for this weekend at Grand Lake, and on into next week!

Lake Level - The lake level as of 10 am is 746.88’ with 7 spillway gates open between the dam and east spillways, moving out about as much water as is coming in right now. Lake surface temps are in the mid to upper 70s. The lake is a little murky, and be aware of debris.

Food Truck Friday - Ketchum Eats Food Park is hosting Food Truck Friday this week from 5:30–7:30, and it's a great way to kick off the weekend. Grab food from Red's House BBQ, Casa Garcia, and Cregan's Confections & Ice Cream, then pull up a lawn chair and enjoy live music by Kevin Hannah & The Road Benders — rock, rockabilly, country, and a little funk thrown in for good measure. It's BYOB and free to attend!

Formula Rendezvous - Formula boat owners and enthusiasts, this one's for you! The Formula Rendezvous kicks off Saturday at Honey Creek Landing Marina with a Meet & Mix from 11am–1pm — complete with a complimentary taco bar and registration at the Drunken Rooster. At 2, the group heads out for a run across the lake to Woodard Hollow, then ties up in front of the Elite Dock Barge from 3–6 pm for a live band, drinks, and great company on the water. Peanut Regatta #4 - The Peanut Regatta series continues Saturday with Race #4 — a sailboat run from the mouth of Honey Creek to Sailboat Bridge and back (wind and weather permitting). Captains Meeting is at 10am at Grand Lake Sailing Club with the race starting at 11am. Whether you're racing or just watching from the shore or the water, it makes for a great scene — and a great photo op!

Open House - Marina Del Rey Resort is throwing open the gates Sunday from 11am–6pm for a free open house, and it's worth a look if you've ever been curious about the place. Come check out the pickleball courts, relax by the pool, tour the marina, and explore their RV sites and cabins. Indigo Tie Dye Company will also be on hand for some added fun. Annual spots are going fast — only 18 remain — so if you've been thinking about making Grand Lake your regular home base, this is a great chance to see what they've got.

So there was some news around the lake that got a lot of run on the Facebooks last weekend… it looks like someone is getting the Cherokee Queen ready for business again.

Not sure who. Not sure why. Not sure when.

But she was out running the lake last weekend (lots of pictures to prove it), and word on the street is it is coming back soon - like, July, soon.

That will be a great option for a little lake time for those that don’t have, or want, a boat.

I’ll do my best to keep you updated.

Meanwhile, in the here and now, the lake level is coming down, and it’s Father’s Day Weekend!

And just like that, it is June at Grand Lake, and all that comes with it.

Including the heat, the muggy, and a pretty steady diet of overnight storm chances.

But the weekend days… they should be absolutely beautiful this weekend.

There’s Toes in the Grand, Thunder on Wolf Creek, and the American Heritage Music Festival all happening in Grove this weekend, so plenty to choose from.

The lake is a little big this weekend, and maybe keep an eye out for debris - they had a full-on drainage-cleaner worth of heavy rain earlier this week up in SE Kansas and that ‘stuff’ will be working its way this direction.

But that’s alright… it is just part of being at the lake.

Lake Level - The lake level as of 8 am is 747.31’ with 3 dam gates open and 5 more on the spillways and ongoing generation. Lake surface temps are warming up into the mid-70s. There was a whole bunch of water in the watershed a few days ago, but they did a good job of getting ahead of it, so the lake level is going down. Might be a little murky this weekend.

🎉 Toes in the Grand — The 9th Annual Toes in the Grand Summer Kickoff Festival is happening right tonight (carnival opens!) through Sunday at Wolf Creek Park in Grove — and this weekend is packed. Friday includes the carnival, the opening of the indoor market at Wolf Creek Expo, boat race testing and live music Friday night. Saturday features the Thunder on Wolf Creek hydroplane boat races (12–5pm), a car, bike & truck show, carnival rides, vendors, food trucks, and free live music on the Cherokee Casino Stage starting at 6:30pm with the Jimmy Lee Jordan Band followed by Bobby DeGonia at 8:00 pm. Sunday wraps up with the boat race championship finals (12–5pm). Most activities are free and open to the public — just bring a lawn chair for the music. American Heritage Music Festival - A Grand Lake tradition — the American Heritage Music Festival & Grand Lake National Fiddle Contest is happening Thursday through Saturday at Har-Ber Village Museum and Snider's Campground in Grove. Friday brings a full day of fiddle competitions at the Har-Ber Village Event Center (10am–4pm), plus a Western Swing Dance at Snider's Campground at 8:30pm. Saturday is the Grand Lake National Fiddle Contest with divisions from Pee Wee all the way to Open, capped off with the Grand Champion Competition. Jana Jae & Friends headline throughout the weekend. Food Truck Friday - Ketchum Eats Food Park is hosting Food Truck Friday this Friday, from 5:30–7:30 pm. Grand Lake Birders - The Friends of Grand Lake Audubon Society holds their June meeting this Saturday at 10:30am at the Grove Community Center. This month's guest is retired Army Corps Park Ranger Alan Bland, who'll be sharing a lifetime of knowledge about Oklahoma snakes — how to observe them safely and how they fit into the local ecosystem. (Yes, snakes at a birding club — nature's full of surprises!) Free and open to the public, and they even have a Young Birders Club for the little ones.

BIG Garage Sale - Looking for a treasure hunt this Saturday? South Grand Lake Christian Church is hosting a huge multi-family inside garage sale on June 13th from 8am to 3pm. And just like that, it is June at Grand Lake, and all that comes with it.

Like the Big Bass Bash this weekend, Toes in the Grand next weekend, and, before you know it, the 4th of July.

Awesome.

But, about this weekend…

The Big Bass Bash is the biggest tournament of the year on the lake in terms of numbers. That’s because it is not open to the pros, only all of us amateur anglers who think we know a thing or 2.

There are more details below, but, as always, keep that head on a swivel. There are going to be more folks out on the water this weekend in those bass boats, and a lot of them aren’t really familiar with our waters.

But that isn’t the only thing happening this weekend, so let’s get to it… here is what you need to know for this weekend at Grand Lake!

Food Truck Friday - It is Food Truck Friday on Friday night in Downtown Grove from 5 to 9 pm. Food trucks, live music, games, and fun for the whole family. See you there!

First Friday Wine Share - The first Friday of the month also means it is Wine Share time in Grove, this month at Classy & Sassy Boutique in the Shops at Grand Meridian in Cleora. As always… from 5 to 6:30, bring a glass, your favorite bottle, and maybe an appetizer to share with the group. Always a great time.

Ribbon Cutting - Dripping Springs Yacht Club and Marina, which has been under new ownership and undergoing extensive renovations since last summer, will have a ribbon cutting celebration with the South Grand Chamber on Friday at 5:30. Come by land or by Grand… it sounds like they are going to have a party!

Big Bass Bash - THE biggest fish wins you a lot of money. And a lot of other fish will win a lot of you money as well, all weekend long. Well, Saturday and Sunday. All of the rules, registrations, and details - including online registration - can be found HERE.

Fairy Festival - Lendonwood Gardens is hosting their 3rd Annual Fairy Festival this Saturday from 11 to 4 at 1308 Har-Ber Road in Grove. Costumes are encouraged, and kids can expect face painting, fairy crafts, free wings, a magician, a fairy boutique, and free refreshments. Tickets are just $5 — and heads up, there's a new entrance this year with shuttle access only. They will point you in the right direction when you get there.

Roper Romp - Also happening this Saturday, Second Chance Pet Rescue is hosting their 2nd Annual Romp Romp — a pub crawl by boat on Grand Lake, departing from Honey Creek Landing Marina starting at 11:30am. WOW! What a great start to lake season that was…

Word on the street is that one popular marina, after a slow day last Saturday because of the rain, had sold more gas by Noon on Sunday than they ever have in a full day!

Now, I don’t know if that was actual gallons of gas, or just more money on gas (thanks to those prices), but, either way… that’s a great sign.

And our travels took us from Mooney’s to Indian Hills to Whitecap, and every place was busy… and, in business to do business. Meaning, well-staffed and ready to roll.

Awesome.

But, as you know, around here, we look forward.

Alright… it feels a little early, but that’s OK. It is time to get this summer season started at Grand Lake!

Holiday weekends at the lake just hit different, and this one is no different.

All of your favorite and soon-to-be favorite spots on the lake are open, there is live music everywhere, and the forecast looks like the days will be beautiful, with maybe a few raindrops in the evenings.

If you are new around here, read on to find the full lineup of music for the weekend and the highlights to get you pointed in the right direction.

There are even some beautiful featured real estate listings down below, if you are ready to take the leap on that lake home.

And on this Memorial Day Weekend, maybe take a minute to observe, however you see fit, those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defending our freedoms.

Now, here is what you need to know for this Memorial Day Weekend at Grand Lake:

Lake Level - The lake level as of 8 am is 744.4’ with no gates open and ongoing generation. The lake is rising just a bit, and if it comes up a little more, gates could be opened over the weekend. Lake surface temps are right around 70 degrees.

Legacy of Liberty - Shangri-La is hosting a Memorial Day ceremony at their Legacy of Liberty WWII Memorial Park on Friday, 10 AM to Noon. The program features the National Anthem performed by Ron Young and Timmy Moore, a presentation by the Grove Veterans' Ritual Team, and remarks from Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell and Shangri-La President & CEO Barry Willingham. A complimentary lunch follows the ceremony.

NO Fireworks - Unfortunately, the Memorial Day Fireworks show scheduled at Honey Creek Landing Marina is a no-go for this year. Something tells me that Grand Lakers will be shooting off their stash all over the lake, though… so, be ready, dog owners.

Pullen Strings - A LOT of the live music around the lake is mostly great musicians doing cover tunes. A bunch of sing-a-longs to songs we all know. But there is a band of local Ketchum guys who are fighting hard to make their own path with almost all original tunes, and their own spin on the mostly deep-cut covers they do play. You can catch Pullen Strings on Friday night at Scissortail Marina starting at 7 pm. Be warned… it is a rock-and-roll show!

Remember & Honor - Take a moment on Monday morning to honor those who gave everything. The annual Memorial Day Ceremony takes place at Veterans Honor Plaza (145 Cherokee Ave, Langley) on Monday at 10:00 AM, featuring Cherokee Nation Chief Chuck Hoskin as guest speaker.

Farmer’s Market - The Grove Farmer’s Market happens Saturday morning from 8 to 1 on the Downtown Square. And, the Saturday Morning Market has returned in Langley! Happening from 9 to Noon, right next to Reasor’s.

Wow! What a beautiful morning out there. I hope you can get out and enjoy it, even if only for a few minutes.

So, yea, did you know Memorial Day Weekend is NEXT weekend? That has kind of snuck up on us.

That means, besides all of the fun happening this weekend, including the annual Burning of the Socks, you'd better get yourself, your house, and your boat ready for next weekend.

Just thought I’d give you a heads up on that, in case you hadn’t looked at a calendar.

From 9 to 4, you can stroll the grounds, browse the displays, and grab a treat while you're at it. Presented by the Grove Convention & Tourism Bureau.

MayFest at the Lake - Head over to Grand Towne Center in Langley on Saturday from 10 to 3 for a fun day out. MayFest brings together craft vendors, food trucks, live music, and a classic car show all in one spot. A great stop on your Saturday travels!

Burning of the Socks - This is one of those Grand Lake traditions you just have to experience. Saturday from 4 to 8 at Safe Harbor Harbors View in Duck Creek, it's the official kickoff to lake season — complete with live music, a beer garden, local vendors, a kids zone, and of course, the traditional burning of the socks bonfire. Free admission. Flip-flops only from here on out. 🤙

Eddy’s Opens - There you have it… all of your favorite on-the-water spots are open! Eddy’s at Shangri-La opens for the season on Friday at 4 and will be open weekends all summer long!

Piguet’s Farm Store? - If you know about Piguet’s Prime Time as a can’t-miss dinner spot (the STEAKS!) in the area, you’ll be happy to know about Piguet’s Farm Store. You’ll find a great selection of locally sourced meats, fresh local produce, sweets, and all sorts of other stuff. They will be open Saturday from 9 am to 8 pm.

Lake Level - The lake level as of 9 am is 743.8’ with no gates open and ongoing generation. Lake surface temps are still mostly in the mid to upper 60s, depending on where you are.

Wolf Creek Expo - The Grove Chamber is inviting everyone to Wolf Creek Park & Expo Center for the open house and building dedication on Friday at 10am. Now this, THIS… is a truly “Welcome Back to the Lake” kind of weekend.

All of your favorite and soon-to-be favorite waterfront restaurants are open (well, still waiting on Eddy’s), the big Cinco de Poker Derby Golf Cart Poker Run on Monkey Island and an on-the-water poker run at the South end, food truck fun on both ends of the lake, live music all over the place, and more things I’m forgetting right now, but you’ll find out below.

I’m just going to get right into it, because 1) I’m running late this morning thanks to the big dog getting skunked at zero-dark-thirty this morning, and 2) there is SO much to get to.

So let’s do that, here’s what you need to know for THIS First Weekend of MAY at Grand Lake!

Food Truck Friday & Arts Festival - Grove's Downtown Square comes alive this Friday with the Creative Alliance Arts Festival taking over Food Truck Friday. Local artists and vendors will be set up on the lawn, face painters will keep the kids happy, and a whole lineup of food trucks will handle the rest. Pier Pressure provides the live music for the evening. From 5 to 9 pm, free admission, family-friendly, and a great reason to get downtown early.

Food Truck Friday - Ketchum is getting in on Food Truck Friday too! Head over to Ketchum Eats Food Park from 6:30 to 8:30 for a free night of live music from Kevin Hannah & The Road Benders — think rock n roll, rockabilly, a little country, and a little funk. Casa Garcia, Red's House BBQ, and Cregan's Confections & Ice Cream will be on site for food. Grab your lawn chairs, BYOB, and make a night of it.

First Friday Wine Share - Don’t forget about Grove’s First Friday Wine Share, happening this month at The Wagmoor, which is approximately 3 miles east of Tom Cat Corner on E 250 Rd. Just bring yourself, a bottle, a glass, and maybe an appetizer to share with the group. All are welcome. 5 to 6:30 pm.

Fly-In Breakfast - This one's cool — Grove Regional Airport is hosting a Fly-In Breakfast Saturday morning from 7 to 11, and pilots and non-pilots alike are welcome. Come check out airplanes on display, grab a hot breakfast, and let the kids loose on the bounce house. They're also celebrating 10 years in the west terminal and introducing FlyHome Aviation, Grove's new full-service flight school and FBO. If you've ever been curious about flying, $50 Discovery Flights will be available with instructors on hand to answer questions.

4th Annual Cinco de Poker Derby - Alright… this thing is BIG! The biggest day on Monkey Island this weekend — and it's not even close. The 4th Annual Cinco de Poker Derby puts 400+ golf carts loose across the island for a free-roam poker run with stops at The Quarterdeck, MarineMax, South 125 Bar & Grill, The Monkey Bar, and Whitecap at The Landings. Cards turn in at The Shebang between 4:30–5:30 PM, then everyone converges on Big Shots for the Kentucky Derby on the big screen, a massive live auction (including an $8,000 hot tub and a custom golf cart giveaway), and Southern Accents live at 9 PM. Pirates Poker Run - Break out the eye patch — the Pirates Poker Run is back on South Grand and it's raising money for the Ketchum Back Pack Program. Pick up your hand for $20 at Cedar Port Marina starting at 10 am and hit stops at Cherokee Yacht Club Marina, Arrowhead Marina, and Sharky's Bar to build your best poker hand. Best pirate costume wins up to $300, and top poker hands pay out up to $300 as well. (Dress the part — it's worth it.) Grab a bonus chip by having dinner at Sharky's on Friday night. Turn in your hands between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm at Sharky’s, where Rockfisch plays live starting at 6:30.

Ian Munsick at The Battlefield - Shangri-La is kicking off its brand new concert series in a big way — Ian Munsick takes the stage at The Battlefield Par 3 Course on Saturday night for what should be a really special evening on the lake. All ages are welcome, parking is free, and food and drinks will be available on site. Gates open at 5 and the show is at 8. It’s a pretty lowkey weekend around the lake before the BIG LakeFun Season gets rolling NEXT weekend.

There was a surge of water that came into the lake earlier in the week, so keep an eye out for debris, but the elevation is leveling.

It looks like, after another Friday evening of rain and storms, we should have a beautiful April weekend here at the lake.

Which puts us one more week closer to full-on lake season!

So there aren’t a whole lot of OGAs (Organized Group Activities) happening this weekend, which makes it the perfect time to do those things around the house that need to be done.

Or, to catch some crappie. (They HAVE to be cooperating now, don’t they?)

Or, maybe to hit the Blind Swine or Juan Montez or Mooney’s or The Quarterdeck for some lakeside grub and refreshments before the big crowds hit.

We don’t need big events to make the most of our Grand Lake Living around here. Just a little time and direction.

So, whatever floats your Grand Lake boat, get out there and enjoy it this weekend.

Lake Level - The lake level as of 8 am is 742.7’ with some generation. Lake surface temps are still mostly in the low to mid 60s, depending on where you are.

Civil War Era Days - Har-Ber Village is hosting Civil War Era Historical Days this Thursday through Saturday. It's a walk through time, learning about the struggles of families on the home front, the progression of textiles, and exploring special exhibitions on the museum's beautiful grounds. Time well spent for history buffs and families. Har-Ber Village is located at 4404 West 20th Street in Grove.

Grand Lake Youth Art Show - The Brush and Palette Art Gallery's Annual Grand Lake Youth Art Show is this Friday and Saturday (April 17–18) at the Grove Community Center. Well then, rolling into April, and we’ve got a lot going on this weekend.

Including the return of the Blind Swine in Duck Creek Friday at 4 pm (weather-permitting) and the opening of the new restaurant at Juan Montez at Red Arrow Marina.

Speaking of weather-permitting, one of the by-products of this 24-hour news cycle world we live in is people having weather forecasts at their fingertips.

And to that end, people putting on events or opening restaurants or whatever, sometimes get a little gun-shy based on a forecast.

Case in point is last week’s Food Truck Friday and Grove Cruise Night. That ended up getting postponed to this Friday night. Long before it ever rained.

My point is this… make sure to double-check everything you see shared in this newsletter. Every week, lol.

There is a chance of storms on Friday this week, so maybe the Blind Swine doesn’t open until Saturday. Or maybe Food Truck Friday gets postponed again. Who knows?

All I can do is, as of this fine Thursday morning, let you know what is scheduled to be going on this weekend at Grand Lake.

Food trucks, classic rides from every generation, and live music from Porter Crossing. Cars cruise from south Grove at 5:45 and park at the Community Center for the show. Great way to kick off the weekend.

🐦 Birders Meeting - This month's Friends of Grand Lake Audubon Society meeting features guest speaker and photographer David Haas, who'll take you on a visual tour of African birds. It's free, open to the public, and a great chance to meet fellow birders and learn how you can help protect local habitats. They've even got a Young Birders Club for the kids. Saturday morning at 10:30 at the Grove Community Center.

🎉 Cinco de Poker Derby Pre-Registration Party - The 4th Annual Cinco de Poker Derby on Monkey Island is just 23 days away, and this Saturday from Noon to 5 is your first chance to lock in your spot. Head to The Quarterdeck for drink specials, a sneak peek at their new food menu, raffles, giveaways, and early registration for the Derby. The golf cart raffle will be on display with tickets available, and the Lottery Board Raffle (donated by The Monkey Bar) is live — just $5 a ticket for a shot at some big money. This is where the momentum starts. Go HERE for ALL of the details on the Derby, which happens on Saturday, May 2nd.

🔥 Que'n at the Lake - This isn't just a backyard BBQ — it's a sanctioned rib cook-off bringing serious competitors to Grand Lake. Baby Back ribs, St. Louis ribs, a steak ancillary, and a free kids grilled cheese competition at noon. Pits fire up early, turn-ins run through the afternoon, and awards hit at 4 pm. If you're into competition BBQ (or just really good ribs), this one's worth the trip to Ketchum. It’s happening at the baseball field parking lot.

🤠 Gilley's on Grand - The South Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce is throwing a honky-tonk party and you're invited. Think BBQ, bull riding (mechanical, but still), live music from Bobby DeGonia & Band, two-stepping, a silent auction, and a spinning photo booth. There's even a Calcutta auction for the bull riding competition if you're feeling lucky. Dust off those boots and get ready for a good time. Get your tickets HERE if you don’t already have them.

🎻 River Ridge Bluegrass Association - Doors open at 5pm with chili, PIE, and free coffee. Rarely Seen kicks off the pre-show at 5:30, followed by Spring Street at 6pm. Admission is just $5, and they're giving away a carved guitar and fiddle. If you love bluegrass, this is your Saturday night. Grove Middle School Auditorium, 517 W 10th St.

🚤 On Water Boat Show at Tera Miranda - Dickson Marine Sales & Service is bringing Veranda Luxury Pontoons to Tera Miranda for a three-day on-water boat show. Come check out the tritoons, take a test ride on the lake, and grab a bite at The Quarterdeck while you're at it. If you're in the market (or just boat-curious), this is a great excuse to get out on the water. Friday–Sunday, April 10–12 | 12–7pm.

Goooood Morning!

We’ve got Easter Weekend incoming here at the lake, and after a few storms on Friday night, it looks like it is going to be a beautiful weekend.

Lots of Easter Egg hunts for the kids (more than I can keep track of), and Easter dining options all over.

Although I am seeing a couple of popular local dining spots won’t be open on Easter to give their staff time with their families. Those include Beau’s in Langley and Juan Montez at Red Arrow Marina. (BUT, Beau’s does have locally sourced lamb, if you are in the market!)

Speaking of Juan Montez, their new restaurant building (it looks NICE!) is pretty much done, and they are opening very soon. Like, maybe this week. If not, then next Wednesday.

They are already cooking out of the new kitchen and the food is as great as it’s ever been - hot, fresh, and delicious!

One other note heading into your Easter Weekend, apparently, the azaleas are really popping right now at Lendonwood Gardens in Grove.

Might be a great time for a stroll through the gardens.

Hot enough for you? And it’s still only March!

One thing this weather does, for sure, is give everyone lake fever. Disney was packed last weekend, but there were a bunch of folks on the lake as well.

And, word on the street is that the crappie are getting hungry.

Alright, I don’t have a lot to wax on about this week, but I do want to let you know I’ve been working hard to get the Events page of the website updated with the most complete 2026 Grand Lake events list you’ll find anywhere.

I’ll keep adding to it as I come across things, but that is your go-to resource for things happening from Grove to Monkey Island to Langley, and back again.

Musings II - Melody & Memory - Grove Playmakers presents Musings II: An Evening of Melody and Memory featuring Pam Leptich & Jonathan Elmore. Spring Open House - The annual Grove Merchants Spring Open House is happening all over Grove this weekend - Friday & Saturday - with great deals to be found all over town. HERE is a recent Facebook post showing all of the participating businesses and the deals that are there for the taking!

Wake Up The Garden - Lendonwood Gardens is inviting volunteers of all ages and abilities to help wake up the garden for the season this Saturday starting at 8:30 AM. Gather at the barn near the back gate for coffee and donuts before getting to work. No gardening experience needed — tasks range from light to heavy-duty, and lunch is provided. A great way to spend a Saturday morning and give back to one of Grove's hidden gems. Call (918) 786-2938 if you have questions.

Indoor Market - The monthly indoor market at White Buffalo Lodge (33621 S 595 Rd, Grove) runs Saturday from 9 AM to 2 PM, featuring a great lineup of local vendors — fresh flowers, sourdough, farm-raised meats, homemade jams, copper jewelry, soy candles, hand-carved wood, pies, Native American beadwork, and more. Cristobal's Tamales food truck and SimpliciTea beverages on site too. Worth the trip!

Oklahoma History Days - It is Oklahoma History Days this weekend at Har-Ber Village, with demonstrations, hands-on activities, and so much more, celebrating the history of Oklahoma.

Speaking of Playmakers… Grove Playmakers has announced they must find a new home by July 1, 2027, after learning their building — home since 1995 — is being sold. They're looking for a space with high ceilings, ample seating, and parking that can be converted into a theatre. If you know of something, reach out at (918) 786-8950 or groveplaymakers@yahoo.com. They'll keep producing shows throughout the search, and community support has never mattered more.

So, yea… thanks for the heads up to those of you who reached out last week.

It turns out I had a little computer problem and the email that you received last Thursday was, well, incomplete. Things that were there in the draft just didn’t show up in the final email.

The good news is I was able to pinpoint the cause. It was a DEU issue. That’s a Deficient End User.

In other words, I screwed up.

But, we lived to tell about it, and this week’s email should be complete and have all the info you need for this Big Meat Run weekend at the South end.

Things have changed a bit with BMR, and John has passed, and the BMR is now a seemingly much more organized series of events, but for those interested in a little history of the thing, here’s an article from 2015 on how the Big Meat Run got started.

And if you are heading that way this weekend, there are rules, and it is up to you to know them. Scroll on to find a link to those rules and regs.

This Weekend at Grand Lake

Lake Level - The lake level as of 6 am is 742.7’ with some generation. Lake temps are around 50 degrees and slowly creeping up. It doesn’t look like there will be any reason for them to open the gates this weekend, so rock on!

BIG MEAT RUN - The biggest weekend of the year in Disney is here, and thousands of folks will be heading to the south end for a weekend of wheelin’ fun. First thing to know… there are rules. So go HERE to get a better idea of what you can and can’t do on the streets of Disney and on GRDA property. That link even includes a map of the trails. As for what is going on all weekend, for the 40% of you not on Facebook, Go HERE to find all the details, and for your Facebook folks, go the official BMR Facebook Page.

Food Trucks & Vendors - Besides all of the rock crawling fun, Disney will also become the Food Truck Capital of Oklahoma for a couple of days this weekend. Close to 2 dozen will be packed into town, so, if you are hungry, come on. Across the dam, on Main Street in Langley, right in front of Soggy Doggy, you’ll also find Rabbitt Trap, serving killer grinders and walking tacos all weekend long! Or, get away from the crowd and find yourself one of our great South Grand Lake area restaurants!

WAAMI Chili Fundraiser - The Women's Auxiliary Association of Monkey Island is serving up a variety of homemade chilis and soups — regular, spicy, white, and more — plus a drink and dessert, all for $10: Saturday, March 21 from 11 AM to 2 PM at Lake Center Baptist Church on Monkey Island. Come hungry, stay and visit, and support a great local organization.

Killer Keyz - The nationally acclaimed dueling piano act Killer Keyz returns to Shangri-La's Roosevelt Ballroom for a high-energy night of crowd-favorite entertainment Saturday night at 8. Tickets are $35 for members and $50 for the general public. Bar service available.

Three days of beautiful March weather are on the way — plenty of sun, temps in the 60s & 70s, and all the excuse you need to get out to the lake. Sunday might get a little weird, but Friday through Saturday? Let's go.

And there's actually more going on than it might seem.

Tonight alone, you've got Mardi Gras in March down by the dam, Boom on Grand reopening after hibernation, and then the weekend fills out nicely from there.

But it's also just a great open weekend to do whatever Grand Lake thing you've been putting off — wake up the boat, get your lake headquarters ready for summer, maybe wet a line and see if the crappie are cooperating yet. (Any reports out there?)

This Weekend at Grand Lake

Lake Level - The lake level as of 9 am is 743.97’ with some generation. Lake temps are around 50 degrees and slowly creeping up. FYI → If you heard the sirens this Thursday morning at the dam, that was just a test of new sirens. My understanding is they were NOT opening any gates.

Mardi Gras in March - The South Grand Lake Foundation is throwing a Cajun-themed fundraiser tonight (Thursday!) at the GRDA Education Center in Langley, and it sounds like a great time for a great cause. Authentic gumbo, king cake, wine and beer, silent auctions, and plenty of beads — all benefiting the Ketchum Warriors Scholarship and Backpack Program, which feeds 95 local kids every week. BOOM is Back - After a few months of hibernation, Boom Sports Bar on the third floor of The Regatta on Grand in Grove reopens tonight with Trivia Thursdays (this month benefiting the YMCA!) starting at 6:30. Doors open at 4. Welcome back, Boom!

Grand Lake Birders - The Friends of Grand Lake Audubon Society holds its monthly meeting on Saturday at 10:30 am at the Grove Community Center. This month's program features a presentation from Board Member and student affairs officer Alec Davis on bats and their role in local ecosystems. Free, open to the public, and family-friendly.

Oklahoma Catfish Tour? - I really can’t find anything about this, but The Bum mentioned it, so… The 2nd Annual Oklahoma Catfish Tour kicks off its 5-event season at Grand Lake this Saturday. Registration opens at 5:00 AM at Honey Creek State Park, with the weigh-in at 4:00 PM at the same location. If you've never watched a catfish tournament weigh-in, I’ve got no doubt it would be worth the trip!

Bluegrass Saturday Night - The River Ridge Bluegrass Association hosts its monthly bluegrass night at the Grove Middle School Auditorium this Saturday. Doors open at 5, with a preshow from the Rarely Seen Band at 5:40 and the Cody Frost Band taking the stage at 6. Entry is just $5, and you can grab homemade pie(!) for $2 and chili for $3. Paint Party at Mooney’s - Grab a friend (or come solo and make some new ones!) for a Paint Party at Mooney's Sunset Bar & Grill in Disney this Sunday at 2:30 PM. Restaurant Updates & Openings - VIP Pizza at Hammerhead Marina, Doc’s Bar & Grill, and Boom on Grand are now all open. Our House BBQ is now open at The Hilltop Inn & Suites in Grove, and Red’s House BBQ is now open at the Ketchum Eats Food Park. Juan Montez at Red Arrow is OPEN as they get their new building built (it is looking NICE!). There will soon be a Mexican food trailer at Ketchum Eats Food Park. And, Burger Barn & More is now open down the street from the Ketchum Eats Food Park. By the way, have you seen Ketchum Kenny at the food park???

Grove Playmakers Spring Break Auditions - 🎭 Grove Playmakers is hosting a full lineup of spring break auditions and open houses for youth and adults interested in performing, dance, Readers’ Theatre, and even adult fitness classes using dance exercises. Auditions include the July/August intergenerational production of A Wrinkle in Time, youth rhythm performance groups, and upcoming seasonal productions. It looks like Grand Lake is officially waking up from winter this weekend.

With Welcome Back Weekend fun (Poker Run!), a boat show, casino night, wine share, and a few other good excuses to get out of the house, there’s suddenly a lot going on around the lake again.

If you’ve been waiting for that moment when the lake starts to feel alive again… this might be it.

It does sound like the weather might be a little bumpy Friday afternoon and evening, with a few leftovers Saturday morning, but then a beautiful early March weekend after that.

And don’t forget that Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday at 2 am. Set those clocks ahead an hour before you call it a night on Saturday. That way, you’ll convince yourself you really slept in when you wake up on Sunday.

Poker Run - The annual Welcome Back Weekend Poker Run returns Saturday! Participants travel by land or water to five stops around the lake — including Arrowhead Yacht Club, Cedar Port Marina, Cherokee Yacht Club, VIP Pizza, and Mooney’s — collecting poker chips before wrapping up with dinner, entertainment, and prize drawings Saturday evening at Cherokee Yacht Club. Biz After Hours - The South Grand Lake Chamber is hosting a Business After Hours tonight (Thursday!) from 4:30 to 6:30 at The Dam Hotel/Disney Island Outfitters in Disney. Such a cool historical building that dates back to the building of the dam. Rain or shine, all are welcome to come visit and network and enjoy a few beverages and snacks.

Har-Ber Village Opening Weekend - Har-Ber Village kicks off the season with its annual Opening Day this weekend, including a special Members-Only preview on Friday (9–3:30) and the public Opening Day on Saturday (10–3). Both days feature the grand reopening of the newly redesigned Pharmacy & Barbershop, a fun step back into Grand Lake history.

Grand Lake Boat & Sport Show - Happening Friday through Sunday at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Jay, offering a great chance to start planning your summer on the water. Browse pontoon boats, deck boats, fishing boats, marine accessories, electronics, dock services, and more — plus talk with local experts about boating, maintenance, and safety. Admission is free. The show opens at Noon on Friday and 10 am on Saturday and Sunday.

Casino Night at Marine Max - Kick off Welcome Back Weekend at Casino Night at MarineMax Grand Lake on Friday from 5–8 PM on Monkey Island. Enjoy an evening of blackjack, craps, Wheel of Fortune, and more while exploring boats and getting excited for the upcoming boating season. They do ask for an RSVP Here to join the fun.

First Friday Wine Share - Blair’s Boutique & Consignment is the host for this month’s First Friday Wine Share in Grove, Friday night from 6 to 7:30. Just bring a glass, your favorite bottle, and maybe an appetizer to share, and enjoy the always fun group.

Pie Auction & Fish Fry - The Ketchum Ag Boosters are hosting their inaugural Pie Auction, Fish Fry, and Student Worker Fundraiser on Friday at 6 pm in the Ketchum High School cafeteria. Enjoy a fish fry dinner for $10 per plate (dine-in or to-go) and stick around for the pie auction while supporting local FFA students and their programs.

Two Hip Chicks Roadshow - Their Modern Market returns Saturday from 9 to 4 at the brand-new Wolf Creek Expo Center for their annual shopping event. With 80+ booths featuring food, crafts, boutique items, vintage finds, and rustic décor, it’s a great excuse to grab a few friends and spend the day browsing and shopping. Admission is $5 at the door (kids 13 and under are free), and the first 25 shoppers get a swag bag of goodies.

Kids Night Out - If you need a few kid-free hours Saturday night, Kids Night Out at The Anchor at Shangri-La runs from 6–9 PM, giving parents a chance to enjoy a quiet dinner or evening on Monkey Island.
