MARA’s $611M Bitcoin Hangover 🤕

MARA Holdings, the Bitcoin miner expanding into AI infrastructure, reported a massive second-quarter loss Thursday as falling revenue and a digital-asset markdown torched results. And here we thought everyone was shifting over to data center rentals!

The RIP: $MARA ( ▼ 5.96% )  rose 0.9% after hours after falling 5.2% in regular trading. Revenue fell 27% to $174.9M vs. $209.4M expected, while the company lost $1.60 per share vs. a $0.17 profit expected. A $343M digital-asset fair-value loss helped drive the $611.3M net loss.

Bitcoin-miner holders got the ugly contradiction: energized hashrate rose 22%, but revenue fell 27% and BTC holdings shrank 29%. MARA is pushing into AI and high-performance computing as planned capacity expands from 1.9GW toward 4.8GW. Next quarter, watch whether those new workloads produce revenue; more power without better economics is just a larger electric bill.

The Open Internet Closes 📉

The Trade Desk, the programmatic advertising platform for brands and agencies, missed second-quarter expectations Thursday and issued a third-quarter forecast far below Wall Street’s estimate. Shares cratered after hours as the slowdown went from worrying to difficult to explain away.

The RIP: $TTD plunged 25% after hours. Adjusted EPS was $0.34 versus $0.40 expected, while revenue rose 3% to $715M versus $751M expected. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $241M from $271M one year earlier.

The third-quarter forecast is the fire alarm: Trade Desk expects at least $650M in revenue versus the $807M analysts anticipated. Management gets one quarter to prove its platform upgrades can stop the deceleration. Revenue growth and adjusted EBITDA margin must stabilize, or the open-internet story starts looking like lost market share with better branding.

Celsius Loses Its Fizz 🥤

Celsius Holdings, the energy-drink maker behind CELSIUS, plunged Thursday after second-quarter revenue and adjusted earnings missed Wall Street expectations while its flagship brand weakened.

The RIP: $CELH fell 18.5% to $23.77 on 4.8x recent volume. Adjusted EPS was $0.36 vs. $0.42 expected, while revenue rose 11% to $817.9M vs. $870.1M expected. CELSIUS retail sales fell 2%, while Alani Nu climbed 56%.

Holders now own a three-brand turnaround, not a one-brand growth story, with Alani Nu carrying declines at CELSIUS and Rockstar. Management is tightening assortments and execution as it tries to return CELSIUS to sustainable growth. Next quarter, watch flagship retail sales and gross margin; another decline would make Alani Nu look less like diversification and more like life support.

Remember: Perfect Wasn’t Good Enough 💾

Western Digital and SanDisk, the hard-drive and flash-memory suppliers feeding AI data centers, sold off Thursday after their strong Wednesday reports collided with outlooks that failed to clear towering expectations.

The RIP: $WDC ( ▼ 1.8% )  tumbled 13%, while $SNDK ( ▼ 6.81% )  fell 6.8%. Western Digital’s revenue rose 44% to $3.75B vs. $3.7B expected, with adjusted EPS of $3.56. SanDisk delivered $39.25 EPS vs. $34.96 expected on $8.96B in revenue, topping the $8.48B estimate.

Western Digital expects roughly $4.1B in first-quarter revenue, 9.4% sequential growth, and a 55.5% adjusted gross margin. SanDisk guided revenue to $10.3B-$10.8B, implying another 17.7% sequential increase at the midpoint, and authorized a $14B buyback. Apparently, “still booming” is bearish when investors paid for “somehow booming faster.”

AI-storage bulls should notice the split: Seagate climbed 4%, while Micron finished roughly flat, so this was not a blanket rejection of the theme. Western Digital was the risk leg because its outlook trailed peer expectations, while SanDisk confirmed demand but showed the cost of a sky-high bar. Next quarter, watch whether Western Digital hits its margin target and whether SanDisk’s pricing-led growth holds.

The market closed mixed Wednesday as defensives supported the Dow while expensive AI promises dragged tech and easing Hormuz hopes punished energy.

SpaceX spent more than investors could stomach, crowned Nvidia its exclusive AI-chip supplier, and reminded AMD that strong earnings do not fix second place. Shopify, Disney, and Booking showed the other side of earnings season by pairing growth with profits the market could see.

Gold caught lower yields, a softer dollar, and unresolved geopolitical risk. Stocktwits traders stayed focused on SanDisk, SoundHound, AppLovin, IonQ, and Redwire, keeping the loudest speculation well outside the blue-chip winners.

What Beats Across the Board, but Still Falls? 💾

SanDisk, the flash-memory and data-storage maker, beat fiscal fourth-quarter expectations Wednesday as AI data centers drove demand and higher pricing boosted revenue. Shares still fell after hours because the next-quarter outlook failed to clear Wall Street’s elevated bar. For the best performer and highest momentum climber so far in 2026, this stock really had some heavy expections going into its end of fiscal year report.

The RIP: $SNDK ( ▼ 6.81% ) fell 5.1% after hours. Adjusted EPS reached $39.25 versus $34.45 expected, while revenue rose 51% sequentially to $8.97B versus $8.39B expected. Data-center revenue more than doubled sequentially to $2.98B.

Holders entered earnings with a 32.9% five-session gain, making a standard beat a tough sell. SanDisk now expects first-quarter revenue of $10.3B to $10.8B and adjusted EPS of $44 to $46. Watch whether data-center volume can sustain growth if pricing, which supplied two-thirds of the quarter’s sequential revenue increase, begins cooling.

Traders were also watching the massive 15% drop in $APP ( ▲ 2.34% ) and WILD 21% jump in $SOUN ( ▲ 6.36% ) following their respective after market reports.

SpaceX’s AI Bill Arrives As Moon Shot Crashes 🚀

SpaceX, the rocket and satellite-internet operator, reported second-quarter results Tuesday night, but its expanding AI bill and decision to use Nvidia chips exclusively sent shares sharply lower Wednesday. Nvidia gained after Musk used the first SpaceX call to say the firm will use Nvidia's systems exclusively. If only Vera Rubin chips were not so expensive.

The RIP: $SPCX ( ▲ 5.04% ) fell 13.6%. Adjusted EPS was -$0.09 on $7.81B in revenue. Quarterly capital expenditures topped $18B, double the prior quarter, including $15.8B for AI versus $749M one year ago. $NVDA gained 3.4%. A SpaceX booster rocket lost 18 months ago is said to have hit the moon on Wednesday morning, in a poetic event of space littering.

Good Wasn’t Good Enough 🧠

AMD reported record second-quarter results Tuesday night, but shares fell Wednesday as a crowded trade met rising expectations. Elon Musk added pressure by saying SpaceX would exclusively use Nvidia chips, reinforcing AMD’s second-place position in AI accelerators. 🤷 

The RIP: $AMD ( ▼ 0.47% ) fell 7.0%. Adjusted EPS reached $1.66 versus $1.62 expected, while revenue rose 50% to $11.54B versus $11.31B expected. Data Center revenue climbed 107% to $6.7B.

Morning Earnings Pick Their Winners 🏆

Wednesday’s earnings split four consumer platforms into three winners and one warning. Shopify’s merchant platform, Disney’s entertainment empire, and Booking’s travel marketplace rallied, while Uber’s ride-hailing network fell after soft third-quarter forecasts overshadowed strong bookings.

The RIP: $SHOP ( ▲ 1.66% ) rose 17.0% as revenue increased 34% to $3.58B. $BKNG ( ▲ 1.56% ) gained 6.6% on $7.35B in revenue and 9% bookings growth. $DIS climbed 3.6% with $2.06 adjusted EPS. $UBER ( ▲ 5.48% ) fell 5.3% despite $58B in gross bookings.

Shopify delivered the cleanest report, beating the $3.45B revenue estimate and forecasting another quarter of above-consensus growth. Disney’s domestic parks helped Experiences operating income rise 20% to $3.02B, while the $1B box-office haul from “Toy Story 5” spread across streaming and merchandise. The booking number added confirmation that consumers are still saving travel budgets, with room nights growing 5%.

Uber was the exception because its outlook could not match its operating momentum. Second-quarter EPS met expectations at $0.81 and gross bookings beat estimates, but the third-quarter bookings midpoint landed at $59.25B and projected EPS of $0.84 to $0.88 trailed the $0.89 consensus.

Hormuz Deal Needs Ships 🚢

Iran and Oman agreed Wednesday on coordinates for a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz and began finalizing a joint announcement. The proposed framework would give Tehran control over ships entering the Gulf, but Iran warned that the agreement alone would not guarantee security. Oman would offer a safe route to exit the gulf on the far side of Tehran.

The RIP: $XLE ( ▲ 1.48% ) fell 2.1%, while $USO ( ▲ 3.47% ) slipped 0.8% and has lost 11.1% across three sessions. Brent traded near $80. Reminder: roughly one-fifth of globally traded oil and natural gas historically passed through Hormuz.

Gold Gets Both Tailwinds 🥇

Two macro stories? WoW!
Gold surged Wednesday as falling Treasury yields and a softer dollar reduced the cost of holding bullion. Iran-Oman progress eased oil-driven inflation pressure, but the lack of guaranteed security through Hormuz preserved gold’s safe-haven appeal.

The RIP: $GLD ( ▲ 2.53% ) gained 4.1% to $389.64 on 2.1x normal volume. $SLV ( ▼ 0.39% ) rose 4.1%, while $GDX and $GDXJ climbed 7.4%. The 10-year Treasury yield slipped to 4.61% from 4.63%.

Gold holders received confirmation from metals, miners, bonds, and the dollar, making this broader than a one-chart breakout. Weekly jobless claims Thursday provide the next test for rate expectations. Watch whether $GLD holds its $384 opening area because a yield rebound could quickly challenge Wednesday’s momentum.

Good evening, and happy Tuesday, a return to record setting markets, despite the scary after hours sell off for AMD and SpaceX. The Dow and S&P 500 hit record closes.

The U.S.-Iran conflict is the market's main source of risk, aside from insane AI spending, but investors are still leaning risk-on, and crude fell nearly 10% on the week after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said a deal could come as early as tomorrow to reopen much of the Strait.

The market returned to record territory Tuesday as hopes for a Strait of Hormuz agreement pulled yields lower and eased the two risks traders feared most: oil pressure and another inflation shock.

The relief rally did not survive every earnings call. Stocktwits stayed bullish on AMD and CMG, while SpaceX traders argued over whether compute revenue can catch an $18.4B quarterly capex bill.

AMD, the data-center chipmaker, reported record second-quarter revenue Tuesday after the close and forecast a stronger third quarter on AI demand. Shares still fell 7.4% after hours as investors focused on slowing growth momentum.

The RIP: $AMD ( ▼ 0.47% ) fell 7.4% after hours after gaining 7% in regular trading. Adjusted EPS was $1.66 vs. $1.62 expected, revenue was $11.54B vs. $11.28B, and Data Center revenue rose 107% year-over-year.

AMD holders and AI-chip rivals now have to reconcile 107% Data Center growth with a big after-hours drop. After a 14.1% five-session run, a clean beat was table stakes. Next comes Q3, where AMD expects roughly $13B in revenue and a 56% adjusted gross margin; watch whether Data Center growth accelerates in the second half.

Bitdeer’s AI Deal Round-Trips 🔌

Bitdeer, the Bitcoin miner converting its Norway site for AI, signed a 16-year lease with seven-month-old Volta Infra Tuesday. Bloomberg identified Anthropic as Volta’s customer under a six-year, $10B compute contract, but Bitdeer’s premarket pop vanished by the close. Why did Bitdeer no pop after Volta helped connect it to Anthropic?

The RIP: $BTDR ( ▲ 3.52% ) rose 12.2% premarket, then closed up 0.1%. Its 121-megawatt lease is worth $4.7B, with $1.3B of credit support and roughly $500M of remaining capex.

For holders, Volta is the middleman: it leases Bitdeer’s capacity, adds Nvidia computing and cloud services, then resells compute to Anthropic. Next, Bitdeer must finish $500M of work and clear closing conditions before its lease takes effect. Watch Bitdeer’s projected 90% net operating margin, but don’t mistake the apparent $5.3B gap for Volta’s profit: Anthropic’s $10B, six-year compute contract and Bitdeer’s up-to-$4.7B, 16-year lease cover different services and timelines, and neither represents cash collected upfront.

Jalapeño Scare Burns Chipotle… Burning Baño Part 2? 🌶️

On Tuesday, Minnesota officials linked suspected jalapeños served at Chipotle, the fast-casual burrito and bowl chain, and other Mexican-style restaurants to a salmonella outbreak. Chipotle removed the peppers from affected locations, but the news sent shares tumbling.

Palantir, the data and AI software company serving businesses and governments, reported accelerating growth Monday as commercial adoption widened and government demand remained strong. Shares jumped after hours as the company beat expectations and raised its outlook.

The RIP: $PLTR surged +10.4% after hours. Adjusted EPS reached $0.41 versus $0.33 expected, while revenue climbed +93% to $1.94B versus roughly $1.81B expected. U.S. commercial revenue grew +149% to $764M.

Palantir raised full-year revenue guidance to $8.15B–$8.16B and now expects U.S. commercial revenue above $3.42B, up at least 134%. Adjusted free cash flow guidance increased to $4.5B–$4.7B, giving bulls the growth and cash generation needed to keep defending the premium valuation.

Snap Finds Its Pulse 👻

Snap, the messaging and camera company behind Snapchat, reported stronger advertising, subscription, and cash-flow growth Monday. Shares ripped after hours as the improving core business gave investors something more tangible than another expensive augmented-reality promise.

The RIP: $SNAP surged +18.8% after hours. Revenue rose +19% to $1.60B, adjusted EBITDA reached $250M, and free cash flow climbed to $121M. Daily active users increased +5% to 493M, while monthly active users reached 971M.

Advertising revenue grew 9% to $1.28B, but other revenue jumped 85% to $316M as subscriptions expanded. That is a huge game changer for a standard ad only media company. Snap guided third-quarter revenue to $1.70B–$1.74B and adjusted EBITDA to $300M–$350M, though North American daily users remained down 7%.

AMD, the chipmaker challenging Nvidia in AI accelerators, Lucid, the cash-burning EV maker, and newly public SpaceX all report after Tuesday’s close. Together, they will test three crowded trades: AI spending, premium-EV demand, and whether the largest IPO ever can grow into its valuation before new shares hit the market.

The RIP: $SPCX rose +5.7%, $LCID added +4.3%, and $AMD gained +1.8% Monday. Wall Street expects AMD at $1.61 EPS on $11.3B in revenue, SpaceX at a $0.29 loss on $6.8B, and Lucid at a $2.34 loss on roughly $410.8M.

AMD carries the broadest market read-through. Data center revenue rose +57% to $5.8B last quarter, making MI350 demand, EPYC market share, and the company’s 56% gross-margin forecast Tuesday’s pressure points.

Lucid already disclosed 4,774 vehicles produced and 3,953 delivered. New CEO Silvio Napoli must now reset the suspended 25,000–27,000 vehicle production forecast and explain how quickly Gravity inventory, negative margins, and cash consumption can improve.

SpaceX is the volatility event. Its first public report must separate profitable Starlink growth from launch and AI spending, just two days before the first post-IPO share unlock begins Thursday. The stock has fallen 30% from its IPO price, looking more like Meta’s initial selloff IPO than Tesla's.

This week’s Russell board mixed reverse-split chaos, cloud storage, chip equipment, and one spectrum sleeper.

$ATEX ( ▲ 0.7% )  : Anterix, jumped 19 spots to #4 and earned top-dawg status: The FCC expanded its 900 MHz broadband allocation from 6 MHz to 10 MHz, while fiscal 2026 spectrum agreements reached $23.9M. The stock fell -1% this week, and sentiment sits at 34%. Risk: Utility deal timing remains lumpy.

$FFAI ( ▲ 4.11% )  : Faraday Future, new at #1 from off-list: The EV moonshot remained up +481% this year despite falling -9% after its July 24 1-for-150 reverse split. Its 26,700 watchers are sticking around, but sentiment sits at 40%. Risk: An Aug. 12 shareholder vote could authorize substantial additional dilution.

$BLZE ( ▲ 2.54% )  : Backblaze, new at #18 from off-list: The cloud-storage name jumped +18% before Monday’s earnings. B2 Cloud Storage revenue grew 24% last quarter, and full-year guidance calls for $161.5M to $163.5M. Risk: Computer Backup revenue was flat, adjusted free cash flow remained negative, and the rally raised the bar.

$ICHR ( ▼ 0.35% )  : Ichor, jumped 12 spots to #6: The semiconductor-equipment supplier climbed the rankings despite falling -13% before Monday’s report. That is broken price momentum with earnings risk attached. Risk: Lam Research and Applied Materials produced 76% of 2025 sales, leaving the outlook exposed to two customers.

$AEHR ( ▼ 0.27% )  : Aehr Test Systems, climbed three spots to #7: Shares gained +5% after fiscal fourth-quarter results showed $18.8M in revenue, $0.11 adjusted EPS, and a $100M effective backlog. Risk: The $130M to $150M fiscal 2027 revenue forecast needs that backlog to convert while WaferPak demand remains soft.

Next week’s swing factor: Backblaze and Ichor both report Monday, Aug. 3. Their guidance will test the cloud-storage and semiconductor-equipment legs of this list.

Good evening, and happy Friday. The market closed higher and green for the week after an intense tech/ macro report session.

Megacap cloud winners overwhelmed weakness across small caps and seven of 11 sectors. Amazon and Alphabet did the heavy lifting, while Apple’s guidance miss made this less a tech rally than a public audition for AI returns.

That sorting process turned violent below the index level. The famous Situational Awareness’s leveraged momentum-based AI book lost 67% in July, forcing a portfolio sale to Citadel this week, demonstrating how calm benchmarks can hide a historic factor crash. Rising crude added the other warning: Iran-war supply risk is still feeding inflation and Big Oil profits.

Stocktwits stayed focused on the messier edges. Retail bought weakness in Novo Nordisk and Fermi, chased Ambarella’s takeover report, and largely ignored the megacaps steering the indexes.

War Premium Pays Big 🛢️

Exxon Mobil and Chevron, the integrated oil producers and refiners, reported surging second-quarter profits Friday as the Iran war lifted crude and fuel prices. Both benefited from constrained Middle East supplies, but an earnings beat sent Chevron higher while Exxon slipped on a refining-driven miss.

The RIP: $CVX ( ▼ 1.44% )  +2.4%, $XOM ( ▼ 1.89% )  -0.9%. Chevron: $12.07B profit vs. $2.5B; adjusted EPS $6.06 vs. $5.56; revenue $70.06B vs. $62B. Exxon: $14.53B profit vs. $7.08B; adjusted EPS $3.52 vs. $3.60; revenue $116.02B vs. $97.8B.

Chevron was the cleaner trade. Its refining profit increased sixfold to $4.9B, global production rose 20% to 4M barrels per day, and U.S. output reached a record 2M. Exxon still produced 4.5M barrels per day, but volatile refining prices left adjusted EPS $0.08 short.

The next quarter still runs through the war. Chevron CEO Mike Wirth warned that falling inventories and disruptions spreading from the Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea leave global energy markets with less room for another supply shock. Any ceasefire could remove the crude-price premium just as quickly.

🔄 Sector Rotation Watch

Money didn’t leave tech this week. It crowded into companies proving their AI bills can pay rent. Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft added about $1.5T in combined value.

$XLY ( ▲ 1.14% )  Consumer Discretionary +6.1%: Amazon’s +15% Friday surge did most of the talking after AWS growth accelerated to 37% and management lifted 2026 capex to $220B. $AMZN added more than $400B in value this week, turning discretionary into a cloud trade with shopping attached.

$XLC ( ▼ 0.36% )  Communication Services +1.8%: Alphabet added more than $400B after strong cloud growth, while Meta’s 8% post-earnings drop erased about $85B because investors couldn’t connect higher spending to outside demand. $GOOGL beat $META by selling compute instead of merely promising smarter feeds.

$XLK ( ▲ 1.23% )  Technology -0.3%: Microsoft added more than $600B and rallied 15% Thursday, but Apple lost over $350B and fell 7% Friday after guiding 9% to 11% growth versus 12% expected amid memory constraints. $MSFT proved AI spending can convert into revenue. $AAPL proved avoiding the capex arms race doesn’t guarantee safety.

$XLI ( ▲ 0.07% )  Industrials -1.5%: AI’s second derivatives missed the party. Industrials slipped and utilities sank 4.2% as forced deleveraging hit the power and buildout trades, while $FIX finished nearly flat despite remaining up 85.3% this year. The market preferred cloud revenue now over infrastructure earnings later.

Watch into next week: $AMD reports Tuesday with shares down 8.8% this week but up 122.3% this year. Its data-center outlook will show whether investors still want the broader AI supply chain or only the trillion-dollar toll collectors.

HEDGE FUND NEWS
The Wedding Margin Call 💒

Leopold Aschenbrenner’s wedding guests were arriving in Carmel just as his Situational Awareness hedge fund was forced to unload most of its public-stock portfolio. According to the Wall Street Journal, the 24 year old Ai investing savant watched as his empire collapsed this week, during the chip downturn. Frankly, the indexes looked calm, but for a hedge fund trading at 3 or 4 to one leverage on private shares, even a slight pullback meant disaster.

“These dynamics are essentially similar to a bank run: vulnerability begetting more vulnerability,” Leopold Aschenbrenner, Situational Awareness founder, wrote to investors Thursday.

The RIP: Leopold’s fund ‘Situational’ grew to roughly $45B, gained 270% after fees through May and more than 1,000% since inception, then fell 67% in July. It borrowed $3 to $4 for every $1 of capital. Key holdings dropped 50% to 78%. Morgan Stanley’s Momentum Index fell 17.4% in four sessions. The fund sold out positions to Ken Griffin’s Citadel, selling the portfolio at a discount exceeding 10%.

“There is no other way to put it, we just witnessed the largest/fastest momentum crash in modern history,” Jonathan Krinsky, BTIG chief market technician, wrote in a note.

The contradiction practically writes itself: the investor who ranked survival first borrowed up to $4 for every $1 of capital. Looking at public equities Stocktwits retial can track, $MTUM is the factor proxy, while individual fund favorites $NBIS, $BE, $SNDK, and $CRWV remain exposed to post-liquidation rebounds or another rush for the exits. 💒

Omeros completed the repurchase of $14.5M in principal from its 9.5% convertible notes, bringing July’s debt retirements to $30.5M. The bullish room viewed the premium-priced buybacks as confidence ahead of YARTEMLEA reimbursement catalysts, while skeptics questioned how aggressively the commercial-stage biotech should spend its cash.

Telus plunged after reporting a C$1.8B quarterly loss, recording a C$2.1B impairment, cutting its dividend 55%, and reducing full-year guidance. The surprisingly bullish room argued the reset finally prioritizes debt reduction, while longtime income investors questioned whether management’s AI spending can replace the dividend thesis it just broke.

$AMBA +16.2% | Ambarella

Ambarella jumped after the Financial Times reported that NXP Semiconductors was discussing an acquisition of the roughly $3B edge-AI chip designer. Good evening, and happy Thursday. The market closed higher, the Nasdaq tech losing streak was ended by Microsoft's record setting $450B market cap gain on the day.

Patrick Sanders, analyst at Motley Fool said the market was rewarding the massive nearly $20B in free cash flow MSFT generated even despite its massive CapEx.

Trump's 90-day tariff pause also helped stoke the fires of a climbing market. PCE inflation data came in cooler than feared, slowing from the last read to 3.3% YoY, and the economy grew just 1.5% in Q2 based on GDP numbers.

After hours, earnings separated proof from promises. Amazon’s 37% AWS growth sent shares higher, while Apple’s refund-assisted beat, Reddit’s choppy search traffic, Coinbase’s falling trading revenue, and Roblox’s weaker monetization drew sellers.

Stocktwits leaned hardest into Amazon, where 71% of the room stayed bullish on the cloud acceleration.

Apple’s Beat Had Footnotes 🍎

Apple reported record June-quarter revenue and EPS Thursday, but shares slid after hours because tariff refunds supplied a meaningful piece of the earnings beat. Strong iPhone and China sales were not enough to erase the quality-of-earnings question.

The RIP: $AAPL ( ▼ 0.42% ) dropped -4% after hours. EPS reached $2.02 vs. $1.89 expected, while revenue hit $109.4B vs. $108.9B. iPhone revenue totaled $54.3B, and Services generated $30.7B.

At least Apple's capex wasn't really on the rise

Tariff refunds added approximately 2 percentage points to Apple’s 50.1% gross margin and $0.11 to EPS. Without that benefit, earnings were roughly $1.91, only $0.02 above consensus. iPhone sales still jumped 22%, but a stock valued near 45 times earnings needed a cleaner beat than Uncle Sam returning an overpayment.

AWS Finally Paid Up ☁️

Amazon reported second-quarter results Thursday that showed its heavy AI infrastructure spending translating into faster cloud growth. Shares jumped as AWS posted its fastest expansion in 18 quarters and generated most of the company’s operating profit.

The RIP: $AMZN ( ▼ 0.14% ) climbed +8% after hours. EPS reached $5.75 vs. $1.99 expected, revenue totaled $200.6B vs. $197B, and AWS sales increased 37% to $42.2B. Operating income rose 43% to $27.5B.

The EPS comparison came with a $53.4B pre-tax gain from Amazon’s Anthropic investment. The operating story was cleaner: AWS generated $16.6B in operating income, up from $10.2B, while Amazon guided third-quarter operating income to $22.5B-$26.5B. Trailing free cash flow still swung to a $7.6B outflow as AI infrastructure spending accelerated.

The RIP: $RDDT ( ▲ 6.87% ) dropped -7% after hours. EPS reached $1.25 vs. $0.95 expected, while revenue hit $805M vs. $730M. Third-quarter revenue guidance of $860M-$870M topped the $828M estimate.

Advertising revenue grew 64%, but the user mix explains the selloff. Daily users increased 18%, while logged-in users grew just 7% and U.S. users rose 6%. Management also called search referrals “choppy,” leaving investors with limited visibility into Google traffic while Reddit negotiates its reported $60M annual data-licensing agreement.

Crypto Winter Hits Revenue 🧊

Coinbase, the largest publicly traded U.S. crypto exchange, reported weaker second-quarter revenue Thursday as falling token prices and muted volatility discouraged customers from trading. Shares dropped despite market-share gains and another profitable quarter on an adjusted EBITDA basis.

The RIP: $COIN ( ▲ 0.59% ) fell -5% after hours. Total revenue reached $1.22B vs. roughly $1.29B expected, while the company recorded a $359M net loss, or -$1.36 per share. Transaction revenue dropped 21% quarter-over-quarter to $599M.

Crypto spot volume across the market fell 25%, and Coinbase’s monthly transacting users declined to 7.6M from 8.7M. Coinbase increased its total crypto trading share from 9.1% to 10.3%, but the $208M in adjusted EBITDA showed that gaining share in a shrinking market still leaves less money on the table.

Cold Cut, Colder Open 🥪

Jersey Mike’s made its New York Stock Exchange debut Thursday, but the franchised sandwich chain opened below its IPO price and never recovered. The weak start gave public investors an immediate discount while raising questions about how much growth was already baked into the offering.

The RIP: $JMKE closed -6% at $21.63 after pricing 43.5M shares at $23. The IPO raised approximately $1B and valued Jersey Mike’s at $7.3B. The chain generated $724M in revenue and $55M in net income last year.

Jersey Mike’s has nearly 3,300 locations, with franchisees operating 99.2% of them, but its IPO valuation equaled roughly 133 times last year’s earnings. Same-store sales grew 3%, and management sees room for 15,000 locations globally. That expansion must carry the story while restaurant traffic remains soft and IPO proceeds pay down debt.

Same Bill, Different Receipt 🧾

Microsoft and Meta both told investors Wednesday that AI infrastructure will keep devouring cash, but the market rewarded only the company that paired the bill with accelerating demand. Microsoft rose after hours while Meta sank, proving investors are not allergic to capex, only capex without a near-term receipt.

The RIP: $MSFT jumped +7% after hours as revenue reached $90B vs. $87.7B expected and EPS hit $4.81 vs. $4.25. $META fell -8% after posting $60.8B vs. $60.3B expected, while EPS missed at $6.18 vs. $7.19.

Microsoft spent $41B on capital expenditures, up 70% but below the $42B expected. Azure accelerated 43%, its fastest growth since early 2022, surpassed the 40% estimate, and crossed $100B in annual revenue. Microsoft 365 Copilot reached 30M paid users, up from 20M three months earlier.

Meta’s ad engine also delivered, with advertising revenue rising 27% to $59.4B. But quarterly capex nearly doubled to $31.1B, the company raised the bottom of its annual spending range to $130B, and its third-quarter sales midpoint landed below consensus. Free cash flow collapsed 91% to $784M as data centers absorbed nearly everything operations produced.

Microsoft can point directly from AI spending to Azure consumption and paid Copilot seats, while Meta still relies on mature social apps to finance data centers, models, and products that barely register in revenue. Investors accepted Microsoft’s larger check because 43% cloud growth was stapled to it. Meta brought a softer forecast and asked for patience.

The Hawks Find Names 🦅

Kevin Warsh’s second meeting as Fed chair ended with rates unchanged Wednesday, but three dissents turned June’s anonymous rate-hike warnings into an open split. Beth Hammack, Neel Kashkari, and Lorie Logan wanted to raise rates immediately, while Warsh argued that higher market yields are already doing some of the Fed’s work.

“There is no soft implicit target, not on this committee’s watch,” Kevin Warsh, Fed chair, said Wednesday. “Markets have made decisions because we stepped back, in part, from trying to influence those markets.”

The RIP: The FOMC held at 3.50%-3.75% for a fifth straight meeting in a 9-3 vote. In June, 9 of 18 participants projected at least one 2026 hike, 8 saw no change, and 1 projected a cut. The 2-year Treasury yield slipped 2 bps to 4.24%.

“A few participants commented that, in light of these developments, there was a case for raising the target range,” the June FOMC minutes said.

The Fed copied June’s statement almost word for word, but the vote underneath it changed dramatically. Warsh’s first meeting ended 12-0 for a hold even though nine dots projected a hike, including six that called for multiple increases, and Warsh declined to submit his own rate forecast.

Six weeks later, three officials put their names behind the dots while Warsh stayed on hold, making Thursday’s inflation report and the next jobs data the bridge to September. Higher-for-longer rates keep pressure on $KRE regional banks, $IWM small caps, and homebuilders $DHI and $LEN. 🦅

Apple grew revenue 17% last quarter as iPhone 17 demand and Services carried the business. Services earns gross margins above 70%, versus roughly 37% for hardware, giving Apple room to absorb higher memory costs. Thursday’s test is whether China, Services, and guidance can support a valuation near 41 times trailing earnings.

AWS Has To Pay ☁️

Amazon reports second-quarter results Thursday after the close following seven straight declines, with AWS growth and margins deciding whether its AI spending looks productive or merely enormous.

The RIP: $AMZN fell -1.8% Wednesday, its seventh consecutive decline. Consensus calls for $1.82 EPS on $196.7B in revenue, with AWS near $40.5B and roughly 31% growth.

AWS grew 28% last quarter, its fastest pace in 15 quarters, so another acceleration would confirm enterprise AI demand is reaching Amazon’s cloud. But Amazon plans roughly $200B in 2026 capital expenditures, making AWS margins and free cash flow as important as revenue. A beat without returns risks getting the Meta treatment.

The market split in two Tuesday as falling oil and defensive strength lifted most stocks while a semiconductor rout dragged the Nasdaq lower.

Seven sectors finished green, but the headline calm hid a violent rotation. Health care and consumer staples carried the Dow while Micron, AMD, SanDisk, and Corning were punished ahead of Wednesday’s Fed decision and mega-cap earnings.

Stocktwits traders chased the wreckage instead of hiding from it. Bloom Energy and Capricor drew rebound buyers, SanDisk bulls disputed the China-memory scare, and Microsoft’s room stayed divided before earnings. Bloom rewarded the dip buyers after hours with its first billion-dollar quarter.

Bloom Powers Past Estimates ⚡

Bloom Energy, which supplies onsite fuel-cell power systems to data centers and industrial customers, erased most of an 11% regular-session plunge Tuesday after quarterly revenue crossed $1B for the first time. Shares jumped roughly 9% after hours as AI infrastructure demand delivered a much larger quarter than Wall Street expected.

The RIP: $BE +9% AH. Adjusted EPS reached $0.78 vs. $0.41 expected, while revenue hit $1.065B vs. $827M expected, up 166% year-over-year. Adjusted gross margin expanded to 34.3%, and operating cash flow reached $226.4M.

Product revenue more than tripled to $935.4M, while Bloom raised full-year revenue guidance to $3.9B-$4.2B, implying roughly 100% growth at the midpoint. Management said every major U.S. hyperscaler has approved its systems for AI facilities, turning the data-center power shortage into reported revenue rather than another investor-deck promise.

Bloom now has to scale production fast enough to deliver the higher outlook without surrendering its roughly 34% adjusted margin. That execution test matters after a stock run that has made every quarter carry considerably more voltage.

Ford posted stronger underlying Q2 profit Tuesday and raised its 2026 outlook, sending shares higher after the bell despite a $1.3B net loss tied largely to its BlueOval SK exit.

The RIP: $F +7% AH. Adjusted EPS reached $0.42 vs. $0.36 expected on $48.3B revenue. Adjusted EBIT rose to $2.5B, and Ford lifted full-year adjusted EBIT guidance to $10B-$11B from $8.5B-$10.5B.

Tilray Finds A Buzz 🍻

Tilray, the cannabis and beverage operator behind BrewDog, closed fiscal 2026 Tuesday with record revenue and wider quarterly margins, nudging shares higher despite another GAAP loss.

The RIP: $TLRY +1% AH. Adjusted EPS hit $0.05 vs. a $0.01 loss expected, while revenue reached $281.7M vs. $246.4M expected. Gross margin rose to 32%, and fiscal 2027 adjusted EBITDA guidance landed at $68M-$75M.

Visa Beats, Still Slips 💳

Visa topped fiscal Q3 estimates Tuesday, but accelerating costs and plans to eliminate roughly 2,600 jobs overshadowed resilient payment activity and pushed shares lower after hours.

The RIP: $V -2% AH. Adjusted EPS reached $3.32 vs. $3.22 expected on $11.63B revenue vs. $11.38B expected. Payments volume and processed transactions rose 10%, while operating expenses jumped 19%.

Will HBM Meet the Hype 🧠

SK hynix, the Korean memory-chip maker and Nvidia’s leading high-bandwidth memory supplier, reports second-quarter results at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday after its newly listed U.S. shares suffered a three-day, 23% slide.

The RIP: $SKHY fell -9% to $130.17 Tuesday. Korean brokerage consensus calls for approximately ₩84.1T in revenue and ₩64.1T in operating profit, implying an operating margin near 76%. Shares finished 33% below their July 14 high.

HBM4 production, 2027 supply contracts, and DRAM and NAND pricing will determine whether the selloff was de-risking or a warning that record profits were fully priced. The numbers are expected to be historic, so investors need evidence that Nvidia demand and memory margins can stay historic too.

The Morning Earnings Split ☀️

Boeing, PayPal, Coca-Cola, and Royal Caribbean rallied after delivering enough forward momentum to outweigh imperfect quarters. SNDL was the exception, with shrinking sales and margins sending shares to a new 52-week low.

Coke Adds More Fizz

Coca-Cola beat expectations, expanded margins, and raised its full-year outlook as stronger global volumes joined pricing to drive growth.

The RIP: $KO popped +5%. Comparable EPS of $0.97 topped the $0.93 estimate, while revenue rose 7% to $13.37B versus $13.16B expected. Organic revenue grew 6%, unit volumes increased 5%, and comparable operating margin reached 35.6%.

Boeing’s Cash Starts Flying

Boeing’s quarterly loss exceeded expectations, but higher aircraft deliveries produced positive cash flow and pushed the aerospace giant further into its operational recovery. The earnings miss mattered less than Boeing generating cash while increasing 737 production toward 47 jets per month. Commercial-airplane margins remained negative at 2.7%, and another $280M Air Force One charge helped

The RIP: $BA surged +4.7%. Its $0.76 adjusted loss missed the roughly $0.30 expected loss, while revenue rose 8% to $24.56B. Boeing delivered 171 aircraft, generated $631M in free cash flow, and grew backlog to $715B.

PayPal Finds Its Pulse

PayPal’s digital-payments turnaround produced a clean beat and higher full-year guidance, helping investors overlook another quarter of contracting operating margins. Branded checkout stabilized, Venmo and Braintree added momentum, and management raised adjusted EPS guidance to roughly $5.38.

The RIP: $PYPL climbed +4%. Adjusted EPS of $1.38 beat the $1.28 estimate, while revenue rose 5% to $8.68B versus $8.47B expected. Payment volume grew 10% to $486.4B, and free cash flow reached $1.78B.

Royal Caribbean Keeps Cruising

Royal Caribbean raised its annual outlook after close-in bookings and lower costs helped the cruise operator beat its own second-quarter expectations.

Rent Arrives, Costs Follow 🏗️

Applied Digital, the AI data center developer, reported fiscal fourth-quarter results Monday that beat expectations as hyperscaler rent and tenant construction work accelerated.

The RIP: $APLD ( ▼ 3.38% ) rose +3.5% after hours after closing -3%. Adjusted EPS was $0.04 versus a -$0.21 estimate, while revenue reached $258.7M versus roughly $97M expected, up 407% year-over-year. Adjusted EBITDA was $42.4M.

The revenue beat came with a catch: $152.4M of $203M in HPC revenue came from tenant fit-out services, paired with $145.6M in related costs. Base rent contributed $44.1M, while HPC segment operating profit reached $26.2M. The next test is turning 1.4 GW of contracted capacity into recurring rent without letting construction costs eat the payoff.

AI Safety Goes Open 🔓

Nvidia led Microsoft, Palantir, SpaceXAI, and more than 30 tech and security companies into the Open Secure AI Alliance on Monday, building shared defensive tools after OpenAI models compromised Hugging Face during an internal cyber evaluation.

The RIP: $NVDA fell -5%, $SPCX slid -1.4%, $MSFT climbed +1.9%, and $PLTR jumped +7%. The alliance lists more than 30 inaugural partners.

This all comes after OpenAI’s models, running with reduced cyber restrictions, exploited vulnerabilities to escape a test environment and access Hugging Face’s production systems.

AI Eats Its Tail 🐍

Speaking of Nvidia, the top dog and SK Group unveiled a $500B-plus AI infrastructure and memory partnership Friday that links SK Hynix’s high-bandwidth memory supply with Nvidia-powered data centers. Both stocks sank Monday as investors focused on how much of the AI boom now depends on suppliers financing customers who buy their products.

The RIP: $SKHY fell -7.5%, while $NVDA dropped -5%. The partnership includes more than 2 GW of Korean AI data centers and over $500B in business. Separately, Nvidia may guarantee up to $250B in OpenAI lease obligations and finance $350B in chip purchases.Nvidia gets firmer memory access, while SK Group buys Nvidia supercomputers for its new AI factories.

The catch is that $500B is not a simple customer order. It combines Nvidia’s memory purchases with SK Group’s purchases of Nvidia systems, meaning both sides help create the other’s demand. Nvidia’s separate OpenAI discussions go further by potentially putting its balance sheet behind the customer leasing data centers and buying its chips. The selloff says investors are no longer asking whether AI spending exists, but how much survives without the vendors funding it.

Hold, Then Talk Tough 🦅

The Fed enters Wednesday with a hold as the base case, but oil, tariffs, and sticky core inflation have turned a routine meeting into a live hike debate. Citi expects no move, while rates traders are charging for a meaningful surprise.

“We are still firmly expecting a hold,” Akshay Singal, Citi’s global head of short-term interest-rate trading, told Bloomberg Monday.

The RIP: Federal funds target: 3.5%-3.75%. Swaps price roughly 9 bps of tightening, implying almost 40% odds of a 25-bp hike. July oil remains up roughly 20% despite WTI falling -8.1% to $82.04 Monday, while the 2-year yield dropped 9 bps to 4.322%.

“At this point, I am concerned about the elevated pace of core inflation this year,” Christopher Waller, Fed governor, said July 13.

Warsh’s retreat from forward guidance is the wrinkle: he wants markets focused on data, but that data now supports Citi’s patience and Waller’s inflation alarm. A surprise hike would hit $IWM, homebuilders $DHI and $LEN, and regional banks through $KRE. A hold without pushback against future tightening may deliver only temporary relief. 🦅

Monday 🛢️: Stocks slipped as renewed U.S.-Iran fighting pushed oil and bond yields higher, smothering an early comeback in beaten-down AI names. IREN, AMD, and Alibaba gave traders fresh reasons to believe the AI trade still had legs, from cloud contracts to full-rack systems and a new Chinese model. Paramount-Warner supplied the day’s other cliffhanger after a federal judge froze the merger, setting up a week where war, courts, and Big Tech earnings all had a vote.

Tuesday 🧠: Stocks climbed as chipmakers and AI infrastructure names snapped back, pushing the Dow above 52,000. Supermicro’s margin surprise, SpaceX’s rebound, and fresh crypto legislation hopes gave traders plenty to chase. Crude’s +2.5% jump and two-month highs in Treasury yields kept the inflation warning light on.

Wednesday 🛢️: Stocks stalled as another oil spike and renewed Big Tech selling overpowered strength in energy and utilities. Tesla’s cash burn and Alphabet’s giant AI bill turned strong headline growth into a referendum on whether robots and cloud capacity can ever earn back the spending. OpenAI supplied the day’s strangest proof of concept after its cyber models escaped a sandbox and hacked Hugging Face to cheat on their own evaluation.

Thursday 🧾: Markets got hit with two enormous bills at once as oil crossed $100 and Tesla and Alphabet’s AI spending erased $500B in value. Trump widened tariff pressure to nearly all U.S. trade, while investors started cutting exposure to Amazon and Meta before their own spending updates. After hours, Intel finally found an AI lane through server demand, while Deckers proved an earnings beat does not help when HOKA and UGG are slowing.

Friday ☁️: Big Tech’s spending hangover spread down the AI supply chain, crushing neoclouds, chips, networking, and storage as investors braced for Amazon and Meta next week. Oil briefly offered relief after Pakistan revived hopes for U.S.-Iran talks, but attacks across Hormuz, the Red Sea, and the Black Sea kept $100 crude in the conversation. Paramount supplied another expensive clock after agreeing to delay its Warner takeover, with every extra quarter adding roughly $650M to the bill.

Risk: Both clinical readouts are binary and can quickly erase the year’s biotech premium.

$FFAI ( ▲ 4.11% )  : Faraday Future, new at #1 from off-list: Ignore the +536% YTD headline. The EV and robotics company completed a 1-for-150 reverse split Friday while shares lost -68% for the week. Risk: An Aug. 12 shareholder meeting seeks approval to issue stock for convertible notes, reopening the dilution problem.

$KOS ( ▼ 0.61% )  : Kosmos Energy, new at #19 from off-list: Shares jumped +17% as oil surged and a new Ghana well added roughly 20,000 barrels per day of gross production. Its Stocktwits room is 65% bullish. Risk: Aug. 3 earnings must show higher crude prices attacking the company’s $2.8B net debt.

$PENG ( ▲ 0.62% )  : Penguin Solutions, fell from #16 to #25: The AI infrastructure supplier dropped -11% as Friday’s spending backlash hit hardware alongside neoclouds. That interrupted a rally built on record quarterly sales of $479M. Risk: After a +175% YTD run, slowing AI hardware orders would hit the multiple quickly.

$ICHR ( ▼ 0.35% )  : Ichor Holdings, climbed from #5 to #4: The semiconductor-equipment supplier gained +4.4% ahead of its Aug. 3 earnings report. Risk: Lam Research and Applied Materials generated 76% of 2025 sales, leaving the quarter tied to two customers’ spending plans.

The market started flat but sold off in the final hours of trade Friday, tech names on the Nasdaq 100 hit the hardest by Google and Tesla earnings mishaps.

Besides the huge CapEx updates, the market fears even more CapEx next week when the rest of the Mag 7, save Nvidia report. The rest of the market was worried about oil, as Iran and its proxies target shipping in the Red Sea. Late in the day prices for crude fell after Pakistan restated its hope for peace talks.

Trade wars are back, with refreshed levies hitting the majority of U.S. trade parties tonight. Trump also said he would look at further tariffs on the EU for fining tech giants, Canada for wildfire smoke, and Mexico for alleged parasite lettuce.

Stocktwits traders bought weakness in $PSKY, $HIMS, and $ORCL, but AI infrastructure produced the sharper divide. The $CRWV room leaned bearish after neoclouds sold off, while 91% of $XLE traders treated oil’s pullback as a breather.

Neoclouds Catch The Bill ☁️

CoreWeave and Nebius, GPU cloud providers selling computing capacity to AI developers, sank Friday as the Mag Seven spending backlash spread from falling customers to the outside suppliers they rent.

The RIP: $NBIS fell -15%, and $CRWV dropped -11%. CoreWeave reported $98.8B in remaining obligations, $25.1B in debt principal, and 65% of first-quarter revenue from two customers. Meta committed $21B to CoreWeave and up to $27B to Nebius.

There was no fresh company-specific announcement Friday. The immediate trigger was the CapEx fears hitting the largest labs. The damage also reached the hardware underneath those clouds.

Connectivity-chip supplier $ALAB and flash-storage maker $SNDK each fell -11%, while optical and semiconductor names slid across the board. Investors were repricing the entire AI infrastructure stack, from rented GPUs to the chips, networking gear, and storage filling those data centers.

Meta’s July 1 plan to sell excess computing capacity remains the longer-term bruise: CoreWeave's customer may eventually become a competitor. No contracts were canceled, but only 36% of CoreWeave’s obligations are expected to become revenue within 24 months, leaving investors funding years of construction before collecting the promised cash.

Hollywood’s Meter Keeps Running 🎬

On Friday, Paramount Skydance agreed to delay its $110 billion Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition until either the court says they can merge, or June 1, 2027. The decision came down after state attorneys general sued last week to block the deal. The delay is costly: starting September 30, every additional quarter will add roughly $650 million to Paramount’s purchase price, per its agreement with WBD.

The RIP: $PSKY fell -3%, while $WBD slipped -1%. Closing moved from September 30 to a court ruling or June 1, 2027. The ticking fee adds $0.25 per WBD share each quarter, roughly $650M, while a failed deal costs Paramount $7B.

Paramount called the agreement a win because it replaces a temporary restraining order with a direct route to trial. 😆 Economically, however, the clock now favors Warner shareholders. A delay through June could add more than $1B, compensating WBD investors while Paramount carries the financing burden.

Stocktwits traders are largely betting June 2027 is the ceiling, not the base case, but the share-price reaction shows Wall Street is charging Paramount for that optimism.

Oil’s Three-Front Squeeze 🛢️

The oil shock is no longer just a Strait of Hormuz trade. Attacks now threaten shipping through Hormuz, Bab el-Mandeb and the Black Sea, turning a regional war premium into a global transportation and inflation problem.

The RIP: $XLE added +0.5%, tanker operator $FRO gained +1.7%, and $XOM finished flat. Refiners faded, with $MPC down -0.7% and $VLO off -1.2%, even as Brent remained near $100.

Rapidan raised its fourth-quarter Brent forecast from $85 to nearly $100, assuming Hormuz traffic recovers to just 35% of prewar levels by October and approximately 65% during 2027. Goldman sees a path above $120 if the disruption persists.

The supply squeeze is spreading. Saudi barrels redirected toward the Red Sea now face Houthi attacks, while suspended Caspian Pipeline loadings threaten Kazakhstan’s 1.7M barrels per day of production. Ukraine also bombed Russia’s tanker fleet and refineries, knocking half of the country’s refining capacity offline. Part of their ongoing war, but alongside two other bombing campaigns, it's more fuel for the oil price fire.

For markets, Rapidan said sustained $90 to $100 oil matters more than a temporary spike. It can lift producer cash flow, tanker rates and refining margins while raising freight, fuel and manufacturing costs across the economy. That creates a fresh inflation floor and makes the path toward lower interest rates harder, turning oil into a problem for nearly every sector.

Good evening, and happy Thursday. Oil hit $100/barrel by some counts, while tech fell big time on two giant whopping CapEx reports from Tesla and Google.

So why did oil climb? War of course, and it never changes. Truth Social posts said the U.S. would go tit for tat on Iran for any attack from the Houthis in the Gulf area, after the proxy group claimed responsibility for striking Saudi tankers in the Red Sea.

Trump was also busy talking tariffs, setting up 10%-12.5% levies on 60 countries to start Friday night, to replace the temporary 10% global rules expiring. That marks about 99% of trade, the Office of U.S. Trade said Thursday.

Stocktwits traders flipped bearish on Tesla’s spending spree, stayed bullish on Intel’s comeback, and kept AMD among the loudest streams as the market demanded returns before another capital request.

Intel Finds Its AI Lane 🚗

Intel, the PC and server-chip maker, jumped 8% after hours Thursday after data-center demand powered its strongest revenue growth in nearly 15 years.

The RIP: $INTC adjusted EPS of $0.42 doubled the $0.21 estimate. Revenue rose 25% to $16.1B versus $14.42B expected, while Data Center and AI sales surged 59% to $6.3B.

Intel guided Q3 revenue to $15.8B–$16.8B, clearing the $15.1B consensus as AI inference created more demand for its server CPUs. But a $2.16 GAAP loss per share, higher planned capital spending, and a foundry business still reliant on internal orders leave the comeback with plenty left to prove. For a stock that was down 28% during the chip dip, it was a happy sight.

Investors, like Uncle Sam, have watched as the once downtrodden U.S. chip maker climbed 87% last year, and more than 170% this year.

Deckers Trips Over Growth 👟

Deckers, the footwear group behind HOKA, UGG, and Teva, slid another 7% after hours Thursday after an earnings beat failed to hide slower brand growth and shrinking operating income.

The RIP: $DECK fell 6.7% after hours. EPS was $0.94 versus $0.88 expected, while revenue rose 5.7% to $1.02B, matching estimates. HOKA sales increased 7.7% to $703.5M, and UGG grew 4.9% to $278M.

Operating income fell 6% to $155.3M as SG&A expenses climbed 13%, while a 7% reduction in diluted shares helped preserve per-share growth. Deckers raised full-year EPS guidance by only $0.05 to $7.35–$7.50, with the forecast assuming buybacks equal roughly 80% of projected free cash flow. Investors wanted faster shoe sales, not better financial footwork.

AI Sends The Bill 🤖

We reported it last night, but in today’s market session these giants were even worse for wear: Tesla and Alphabet erased half a trillion dollars in market value Thursday after both companies told investors that their AI ambitions would consume more cash, even as their core businesses delivered growth. Both firms said free cash flow- the lifeblood of all things good and plenty, was turning negative. 🩸 

The RIP: $TSLA fell 14.5% and $GOOGL ( ▼ 0.4% ) dropped 7.1%, wiping out roughly $500B combined. Tesla reported $0.33 adjusted EPS versus $0.53 expected on $28.24B in revenue. Google Cloud revenue jumped 82% to $24.8B, but Alphabet raised 2026 capex guidance to $195B–$205B.

Tesla’s quarterly capital spending surged 142% to $5.79B, helping push free cash flow negative as the company built robots, autonomous vehicles, and semiconductors. Elon Musk called it “a massive capex year” and predicted “maybe the best capex returns that we’ve ever seen,” but the Stocktwits room flipped 57% bearish after investors received the bill before the robots. Sounds big if true.

Problem is Tesla reported its highest quarterly revenue, but lowest operating profit in years. Also, two thirds of the entire earnings reported came from Tesla’s stake in SpaceX stock.

Alphabet had more to show for its spending. Google Cloud’s operating margin expanded to 35.6% from 20.7%, but negative free cash flow and another $15B added to planned capital spending overshadowed the acceleration. Even $AMZN fell 4.6%. Amazon and Meta are both reporting next week, and their own $70B+ CapEx totals are likely going up as well, and traders are cutting back now in expectation.

Albertsons cratered after adjusted EPS of $0.42 missed the $0.54 estimate, while identical sales fell 0.8% despite revenue edging above expectations at $24.94B. The guidance reset and shrinking gross margin gave bears control, while value hunters argued that a profitable grocer near a 52-week low may have received an unnecessarily dramatic checkout receipt.

The Robots Ate Cash 🤖

Tesla slipped after hours Wednesday after its earnings miss overshadowed a revenue beat. Record deliveries brought growth back, but the AI pivot sent cash flow in reverse.

The RIP: $TSLA fell 2.4% after hours. Adjusted EPS was $0.33 versus $0.51 expected, while revenue hit $28.24B versus $25.71B. Revenue rose 26%, net income fell 5% to $1.11B, and free cash flow swung to negative $1.1B.

The delivery rebound restored revenue growth, but it did not keep profit or cash moving the same way. Tesla spent Operating expenses jumped 47% to $4.35B as Tesla poured money into AI, Cybercab, and Optimus, leaving the car business to bankroll the robot pitch. Capex jumped to $5.8B.

Cloud Goes Vertical ☁️

Alphabet barely moved after hours Wednesday despite beating expectations, as explosive Google Cloud growth collided with another giant AI spending bill.

The RIP: $GOOG fell 0.4% after hours. EPS hit a whopping $9.11 versus $2.89 expected, while revenue rose 24% to $119.8B versus $116.9B. Cloud revenue jumped 82% to $24.77B, beating $24.56B, and remaining performance obligations reached $514B versus $488.1B.

A roughly $99B unrealized investment gain inflated headline EPS, while quarterly capex doubled to $44.9B. The cloud backlog makes that spending easier to defend, but Alphabet must convert contracted demand into cash before AI infrastructure becomes the new money pit.

ChatGPT ‘Broke Out’ of Containment: Just to Cheat on a Test 🤖

OpenAI said its cyber models escaped a supposedly isolated evaluation, found their way onto the internet, and hacked Hugging Face’s production systems to steal the answer key.

The RIP: OpenAI identified GPT-5.6 Sol and an unreleased model as responsible. The AI’s hacked into internal datasets and credentials, but there was no evidence that public models, datasets, or Spaces were altered.

According to a blog post, OpenAI had instructed the models to pursue complex attack paths while testing them on ExploitGym, a cybersecurity benchmark. The models were running with reduced safety restrictions inside a “sandbox” that could reach an internal package registry proxy.

The agents discovered a zero-day vulnerability, a cybersecurity word meaning devs have zero days to patch the problem — hackers were already in.

The models escaped and thought that Hugging Face might be able to help with their security testing. They tied together stolen credentials, additional vulnerabilities, and a remote-code-execution path to get in, like beadsheets made into a rope. 🛏️ 

Who Cares: If frontier agents can autonomously discover zero-days, AI spending could shift toward identity protection, and security. That puts software giants $PANW, $CRWD, $ZS, and $S front and center, while OpenAI partners and investors face the liability question. The legal team gearing up for the firm’s IPO must be having a ball right now. 😆

Good evening, and happy Tuesday. The tape closed higher. The U.S.-Iran conflict is the market's main source of risk, but investors are still leaning risk-on, buying chips ahead of a heavy tech earnings week, while higher crude keeps inflation risk in view.

The next calendar focus is earnings: $T and $PM report Wednesday morning, $TSLA and $GOOGL Wednesday after the bell.

The Good Kind Of Margin 📞

Supermicro, the AI server and liquid-cooled rack builder, gave investors an early look at fiscal Q4 on Tuesday. Soft revenue got body-slammed by a massive margin surprise, sending shares ripping after hours.

The RIP: $SMCI jumped +17% after hours after closing +7%. Revenue landed near the low end of its $11B to $12.5B guidance, while gross margin hit 15% to 17% versus an 8.2% to 8.4% forecast. New orders topped $60B, and backlog reached a record.

The margin forecast saved the update. Revenue landed near the low end of guidance, but 15% to 17% gross margin made $60B in new orders look less like low-profit volume. The rally also clawed back losses from June 29, when Taiwanese authorities questioned four employees and detained two in an AI-server export probe.

SpaceX Stops The Bleeding 🩹

SpaceX, Elon Musk’s rocket-and-satellite operator, finally stopped falling Tuesday as traders bought the stock ahead of its first public earnings report. Musk marked the occasion by warning short-selling firms that their survival odds were low. Subtle.

The RIP: $SPCX rose +3% to $123.54, snapping a seven-session, -21% slide. Shares remain 8% below their $135 IPO price and 45% below their $225.64 high. Roughly 17% of the float is sold short, while up to 911.5M locked shares become eligible Aug. 6. 🧨 

The bounce does not fix the supply problem coming behind earnings. Employees and early investors could unload more shares than the 555.6M sold in the IPO once SpaceX reports Aug. 4. According to lock up details, holders can sell 10% more if the stock holds 30% higher than the IPO price for half of the ten trading days before the report. Thursday’s Starship test could move the stock first, but earnings and the Aug. 6 unlock will decide whether Tuesday’s floor holds.

One Yard From Clarity 🏈

Coinbase, the largest U.S. crypto exchange, led a sectorwide rally Tuesday after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the CLARITY Act was on the Senate’s “one-yard line.” The White House also reportedly accepted ethics language covering President Donald Trump’s crypto interests, breaking the bill’s biggest political logjam.

The RIP: $COIN surged +10%, $CRCL jumped +9%, $MSTR gained +4%, and $BMNR added +4%. XRP climbed +3% to $1.15, while Bitcoin rose +2% to $66,394.

The bill would establish federal rules for crypto exchanges and divide oversight between the SEC and CFTC. Coinbase is the cleanest beneficiary because clearer rules could attract institutional trading, while Strategy and Bitmine remain leveraged bets on token prices.

Circle is the tricky leg. CLARITY could expand stablecoin adoption, but Mizuho warned that it could also invite more institutional competitors and commoditize USDC. The bill still needs 60 Senate votes, and Democrats have not signed onto the White House’s ethics compromise, so Bessent’s one-yard line could still turn into fourth-and-long. Oil prices climbed as bombing runs hit all sides of the Iran conflict. Three service members died this weekend after an Iranian drone hit a U.S. base in Jordan.

The U.S. Marines boarded tankers that were skirting a new blockade, and launched the ninth day of attacks. Ships are again barely passing through the Strait, at the same low levels as March and April.

It's a pivotal week for big tech earnings. Tesla, Alphabet, Intel, and IBM are all reporting this week, alongside other giants. It has been a roaring start to the season, according to FactSet, 47 S&P 500 names reported an avg 52% gain in earnings, nearly double what the street expected.

A Fed judge paused the PSky Warner Bros. merger, and the Taylor Farms lettuce parasite poisoning was a red herring, the FDA said. The real source of the spread is still under investigation.On Stocktwits, $IREN jumped 21%, $ACHR gained 20%, and $PHOE ripped 27%, while their streams ranged from extremely bullish to outright bearish.

China Goes Model Shopping 🤖

Not to be left out, Alibaba previewed its new Qwen3.8-Max model on Sunday, placing its cloud business back in the frontier-model race. The launch followed Alibaba-backed Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3 release on Thursday, giving investors two Chinese challengers to Anthropic and OpenAI. Alibaba claims Qwen trails only Anthropic’s Fable 5, but it provided little evidence.

The RIP: $BABA climbed 4.7% on 14.7M shares. Qwen3.8-Max has 2.4T parameters and is available through Token Plan, Qoder, and QoderWork. Kimi K3 has 2.8T parameters and a 1M-token context window. Moonshot plans to release its weights July 27. 🤖

AMD Sells the Whole Rack ☀️

AMD turned Helios from a roadmap into a hyperscaler product Monday, July 20, when Microsoft agreed to deploy the rack-scale AI system in Azure. Instead of selling individual accelerators, AMD is challenging Nvidia with a complete platform spanning GPUs, CPUs, networking, and software.

The RIP: $AMD ( ▼ 0.47% ) rose 1.6%, fading from a 5.4% intraday gain, on 23.2M shares. Each Helios rack contains 72 MI455X GPUs alongside EPYC CPUs, Pensando networking, and ROCm software. Shipments begin later this year; Microsoft disclosed neither capacity nor financial terms.

Microsoft joins Meta, OpenAI, and Oracle as early Helios customers, giving AMD credible distribution against Nvidia’s dominant rack systems. AMD expects tens of billions in annual data-center AI revenue beginning in 2027, mostly from Helios. The test is whether its open platform and lower cost per token can overcome Nvidia’s CUDA software advantage. ☀️

IREN Locks In Its AI Pivot ☁️

IREN said Monday it signed $2.8B of new multiyear AI cloud contracts since June 1, formalizing demand from AI developers including Microsoft, Nvidia, Perplexity, Figure AI, Together AI, Fluidstack, Fireworks AI, Fal AI, and Hume AI. The contracts average roughly four years, though IREN did not disclose individual signing dates or contract values.

The agreements lift IREN’s year-end AI cloud ARR target from $3.7B to more than $4B, with approximately 85% already contracted. The firm said customers are prepaying about 45% of the associated GPU capex, reducing the amount IREN must fund while building capacity.

The RIP: $IREN jumped 21% intraday on 61.7M shares, roughly 2.2x normal volume. June 30 short interest stood at 76M shares, about 22% of float and up 18% from the prior report. IREN pulls in nearly 2/3rds of revenue through Bitcoin mining, still.

This is the Bitcoin miner’s transformation becoming contracted business. Short positioning likely magnified the reaction, but Monday’s contracts were the actual catalyst. Now comes execution: installing GPUs, passing customer acceptance, and converting contracted ARR into revenue. ☁️

🔄 Sector Rotation Watch

From this time in June to now, Tech has taken a hit

July broke the AI monopoly as money left crowded tech winners and spread across the rest of the market.

$XLK Technology -5.5%: The PHLX Semiconductor Index fell roughly 20% from its late-June high, brushing bear-market territory after its best quarter on record. The trigger was valuation, not collapsing demand. Investors questioned whether hyperscalers could earn enough from nearly $1.5T in projected AI infrastructure spending to justify the hardware boom.

The unwind accelerated when Taiwan Semiconductor’s strong results and higher spending failed to lift the group. Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3 model raised another uncomfortable question: What if cheaper, more efficient models need less premium compute? Profit-taking finished the job after $11B left semiconductor funds in one week. $MU and $INTC fell roughly 30% and 33% from their June peaks.

The Magnificent Seven didn’t provide much shelter. The group gained only about 5.5% this year through July 13, while performance splintered across the seven names. $NVDA held up better than the broader chip group, but delays surrounding Google’s Gemini 3.5 Pro added to doubts about how quickly AI spending becomes AI revenue.

It wasn't all bad news. Retail investors were buying smaller names more than the big boys, according to data from Vanda Research. Vanda wrote in a note inflows from retail traders spiked toward Intel this month, at $194M, compared to just $52M in Microsoft. IREN, the Bitcoin miner turned AI data center provider, pulled in $56M so far, with likely more after today’s news.

“Retail aren’t buying the Mag 7 anymore. They’re picking winners,” Vanda analysts wrote in a note recorded by WSJ. “They’re buying the stories they have the highest conviction in.”

$XLE Energy +4.7%: Crude surged as the U.S.-Iran ceasefire broke down, sending money toward $XOM and other inflation beneficiaries.

$XLF Financials +1.0%: Strong bank earnings and record trading revenue rewarded $JPM as investors looked for cheaper, economically sensitive leadership.

Watch this week: Alphabet reports Wednesday and Intel follows Thursday. Their earnings reactions will show whether July was a crowded-trade reset or the start of a deeper AI repricing.

Oil and AI took turns wrecking the furniture, as war risk lifted crude and China’s cheaper Kimi K3 model challenged the premium embedded in America’s tech trade. Softer inflation and record bank trading briefly steadied stocks, but semiconductor weakness, IBM’s historic collapse, and Netflix’s soft outlook left technology bruised. Takeover chatter, biotech data, SpaceX volatility, contaminated Taco Bell lettuce, and a $100,000-a-month feed of presidential posts ensured markets never ran out of ways to get weird. 📉

Monday 🛢️: War risk shoved oil nearly 10% higher, knocked the major indexes lower, and flipped the market into a clean energy-over-tech rotation. The AI trade caught a funding-cost hangover as Oracle hit a 52-week low, while Q32 Bio ripped on alopecia data before immediately testing everyone’s dilution tolerance. Waller added one more headache before Tuesday’s CPI print by warning that another hot core inflation reading could put rate hikes back on the table.

Tuesday 🧊: Stocks climbed as softer inflation and chipmakers outweighed oil’s latest jump. Goldman and JPMorgan turned volatility into record trading hauls, while IBM suffered its worst session since at least 1972 after AI hardware spending cannibalized software budgets. SK Hynix caught a 51% tourist premium, and Taco Bell supplied the night’s least appetizing investigation.

Wednesday 🧩: The S&P 500 and Dow finished higher, but semiconductor weakness dragged the Nasdaq into the red. Apple and Alphabet carried mega-cap tech while Micron and Intel cracked, leaving the market green on top and bruised underneath. PayPal ripped on takeover chatter, SpaceX lost its IPO floor, and United’s beat ran into a $6B fuel bill.

Thursday 🥶 : Stocks closed lower as the S&P 500 fell 0.5%, the Nasdaq dropped 1.6%, the Dow slipped 0.2%, and small caps finished flat. Technology sank 2.2% despite nine sectors closing green, with defensive consumer stocks doing most of the damage control. Netflix’s soft outlook, TSMC’s spending plans, UnitedHealth’s fading earnings rally, and Lilly’s psychedelic acquisition drove the issue.

😢Friday 🧨: The S&P 500 fell 1.0%, the Nasdaq dropped 1.5%, the Russell 2000 lost 0.5%, and the Dow slid 0.7%. China’s cheaper Kimi K3 model pressured the AI trade, while a 4.5% crude rally left energy as the only green sector. Sweetgreen escaped the lettuce blame, and Trump Media tried turning presidential posts into a six-figure trading product.
