Why:

When a new album drops...

Some feel inundated by a stream of hot-takes and watch as public consensus is shaped by which side is loudest...

We also feel that the independent curator isn't as trustworthy as they once were, or rather their taste is also tainted by this public consensus...

What:

Tonight we're experimenting with the idea of "decentralized curation" at FSR.

The idea is to invite listeners to play an album straight through, blindly submit their ratings, and then discuss it as a group...

Then we’ll combine the ratings and opinions of the group into a community consensus review in an effort to present an opinion that is diverse in perspective and less prone to bias.

Jamee Cornelia is Giving You The Courage to Quit Your Job Today

Producer Teji released 1000 free editions of an album called INTERNET KID. The entire album is open source which means that it is in the public domain and anyone is permitted to use the songs in any way they’d like. Artist and experimental technologist Jamee Cornelia utilized production from INTERNET KID to create their Meme Tape “Quit!”, available exclusively on Zora.

The State of Streaming

The issue of low pay-per-stream from platforms like Spotify has long been a concern. However, in recent months, there's been a noticeable increase in momentum among musicians advocating for fair pay.

Many artists are focusing on selling physical goods and offering experiences, while some are even choosing not to release their work on streaming platforms at all.

But perhaps most notably, music industry institutions such as Sony and MLC have now entered the conversation. With this following the dispute and resolution over the usage of music from Universal artists on TikTok, we may be in for a shift in music distribution and consumption models.

Is AI Music The Future of Sampling?

By now you’ve probably heard the AI song “BBL Drizzy”, Metro Boomin’s flip, or one of the thousands of remixes and freestyles that have made their way online.

In a humorous and surprising turn of events, the butt of the joke, Drake delivered a rather cheeky verse over the sample in a Tay Keith-produced rendition for Sexyy Red’s new album.

The immediate question of if and how the original creator, King Willonius, should be credited arose. According to Suno.ai, the tool used to create “BBL Drizzy”, subscribers to their paid plans own a commercial license for the songs that they create.

In what seems like a quick resolution, King Willonius has since been added to the credits of “U My Everything”.
