My newborn daughter is crying (and has been for the past 2 hours).

My toddler isn't taking her nap.

And in my chest, a familiar feeling constricts with a voice that says:

I should be doing something.

I should be working. I should be making money.

What an insidious thought.

It takes me away from the only moment that actually matters. It convinces me that being here, with my daughters, isn't enough. That I'm not enough unless I'm producing, performing, proving.

Five weeks ago, my second daughter was born. Right before she arrived, I listened to Stillness is the Key by Ryan Holiday (thanks Patrick Diamond for sharing the book with me). The timing wasn't accidental. I knew I needed something to anchor me.

Because here's what no one tells you about being a mission-driven entrepreneur and parent: the guilt is relentless.

When you're with your kids, you feel like you should be working.

When you're working, you feel like you should be with your kids.

You're never fully present. You're always half somewhere else.

So over the last five weeks, I've been practicing something radical.

Stillness.

Not as a nice idea. As a discipline.

Every time that thought comes up (the one that says I should be doing something), I replace it with a new one:

I'm whole. I'm okay. I'm safe. I can be here. And be silent. And be still.

It's hard.

It's hard to feel still when your newborn is screaming at you. It's harder to feel still when your toddler is melting down and you just want five minutes of peace. It’s even harder to feel still when you’re not sure how you’ll pay bills next month.

But I keep coming back to it. Because the alternative is a life I don't want to live.

A life where I'm always chasing the next thing, always feeling behind, always missing the moment right in front of me.

And then, in my stillness, I started to see something I'd missed my entire life

The People Who Taught Me Stillness (Without Ever Saying a Word)

My parents have mastered stillness.

I just never had the language for it until now.

My mom has journaled for as long as I can remember. Not in a frantic, therapeutic way. In a still, intentional way. She writes. She reflects. She captures the moments that matter.

Because of her journals, she can tell me stories about myself from when I was younger. She can find people. Find memories. Create opportunities for connection that are absolutely incredible.

Her journaling has made her calm and collected. It's turned stillness into an inevitable outcome.

Yesterday, I wrote a post on LinkedIn about her. And as I was writing it, I realized: her practice of stillness didn't just change her. It changed me. It's changing my kids. It will change their kids.

When I asked my mom about the success she and my dad have experienced, she didn't talk about what they did.

She talked about what they didn't do.

What they didn't chase. What they didn't sacrifice. What they didn't compromise.

That's stillness.

And my dad? He's always listening.

A couple of weeks ago, he was driving down to support my grandma, who's been having some health struggles. And in the car, he had a spiritual impression: he should come visit me and give me a hug.

So he turned around on the freeway. Drove 40 minutes out of his way. Came over. And gave me a hug.

That's all he did. And it was a hug I desperately needed.

I can share hundreds, if not thousands, of stories where he did that for me. Or for someone else. Where he allowed himself to be still, thought of someone who could use his help, and then took action.

Stillness isn't inaction.

It's clarity. It's presence. It's knowing what actually matters and having the courage to act on it.

Both of my parents are writing books right now. And when I think about the legacy they're leaving, it's not just the books themselves.

It's the way they've lived. The stillness they've practiced. The moments they didn't miss because they were too busy chasing something that didn't matter.

What If You Wrote the Book That Changed Everything?

It changed how I think. How I parent. How I show up in my work and my life.

Yesterday, I was interviewing an expert who's building something meaningful. And I asked them a question:

What would happen if he DIDN’T write his book?

And as I pushed him to go deeper and deeper into the what it would look like and feel like, he finally got to the crux of it: who would be left out of progress if he abandoned his God given gifts and didn’t share his stories?

Because a book isn't just a book. It's a way to think. It's a way to lead. It's a way to leave something behind that prepares the world for your kids.

My wife and I had just landed a $15,000 contract, and the only logical way to celebrate was with ice cream from Handel’s!

Just two giddy adults, one WILD child (seriously, you should have seen her after she had a few bites), and a tub of our favorite Ohhh… Dough!

After placing our order I turned around and froze.

The family behind us was familiar… in a split second I recognized the husband. I’d trained him in ChatGPT in the beginning of 2024. Then he became the guy who always volunteered to record my sessions.

He had told me stories about using ChatGPT to create stories with his daughter. (I’ve shared some of those stories in my emails!) He was an AWESOME dude. Big smile. Heart forward. Always serving. The sort of person you never forget.

After I got his attention, a MASSIVE smile spread across his face and he said:

He didn’t say it quietly either!

While I did my best to prevent our daughter from destroying the Handel’s ice cream parlor he explained how that AI training had changed everything.

He was in a new job, using AI every single day, working with a nonprofit in EdTech that’s actually teaching teachers and principals how to use AI for impact. His energy was electric, proud, unstoppable.

I walked in to celebrate one win, and walked out remembered for something much bigger.

Not the deal. Not the money. But the ripple effect of showing up, sharing what you know, and caring enough to give your best even if you don’t see the impact right away.

Sometimes, the universe smacks you with the reminder of the greatness you’ve done for others.

And in those moments the only thing you can do is be GRATEFUL for the reminder.

I was sitting in my little corner of the house, watching ChatGPT spit out paragraph after paragraph that could have been written by anyone. The code it generated for me was brilliant—elegant, fast, downright magical—but the writing was severely… lacking.

It did NOT sound like me.

I tried tweaking prompts, changing temperature settings (lol), BEGGING it to loosen up. At some point I started typing in call caps. Nothing worked.

Many of my “drafts” would be trashed and I would start from scratch, wasting hours. This process went on for weeks.

And that morning, in my little corner, was the breaking point. That morning I said “enough” and walked away from using AI to write anything for me. In fact I stopped using it for pretty much anything at all. For 6 long months. 

Then a friend casually dropped a bomb that would change my trajectory in life: “When I replaced Google with ChatGPT, things started to shift.” Curiosity dragged me back. This time, I stopped trying to get AI to sound like me and started with a simpler problem: just get me something useful. It fetched data, summarized papers, and helped me choose libraries for my coding. Speed returned (AI searching the internet was a game changer) but soul was still missing.

The turning point came while drafting a weekend mini-book on Python. I noticed that after a few chapters of relentless back-and-forth, the AI finally echoed my jokes, my pacing, even my snarky side comments.

Writing that book changed how I thought about getting AI to WRITE and SOUND like me.

That epiphany cracked the code:

1. Feed it my stories.

2. Show it my structures.

3. Iterate until it sings like me (or my wife, who sounds like Snow White when she sings).

This process has turned into repeatable process that now powers blog posts, social threads, email sequences, and even revenue-generating books—without sacrificing my unique voice.

The Authentic AI Voice System

1. Input – Feed the AI Your Stories

• Dump past content: blogs, emails, transcripts, DMs, even (and this is sometimes the best) rambling voice notes.
• Or let the AI interview you: “Ask me 10 questions about how I teach...”
• Prioritize moments of emotion—wins, fails, late-night breakthroughs—because tone hides inside story.

Why this matters: The LLM can’t mimic what it’s never seen. Your quirks, metaphors, and pacing patterns become training data that instantly separate you from every copy-pasted prompt on the internet.

Pro tip: Alternate between raw transcripts and polished pieces. The contrast helps the model understand both your brainstorming voice and your publication voice.

2. Structure – Use Templates to Guide Output

Templates are your on-demand outline. They answer the question, “In what order should ideas appear so readers stay hooked?”

Example template I use for a newsletter:

### Punchy Story
[150-word anecdote that exposes the pain]

### Framework Breakdown
• Step 1
• Step 2
• Step 3

### Call to Action
[Invite, link, or micro-offer]

Hand the template to ChatGPT with a simple prompt: “Fill in this template from the interview we just did” Boom—instantly skimmable content that already sounds like you because the skeleton is yours!

No previous examples? Reverse-engineer your own best-performing piece. Headlines, subheads, bullet cadence, even the rhythm of sentence length—turn it all into placeholder brackets so the AI fills in the blanks.

3. Iterate – Refine for Authenticity

Even with A+ input and a bulletproof template, the first draft is rarely perfect. That’s good news: iteration is where the magic sneaks in.

How I iterate:

1. Highlight any line that makes me cringe.

2. Tell the AI why it’s off: “Too academic, make it conversational” or “Use a self-deprecating joke here.”

3. Lock in keepers: “Love this analogy—don’t change it.”

4. Rinse until 90% right, then human-edit the last 10%.

Advanced move: Paste your edited version back into the chat so the model levels up for the next chapter, post, or email thread. Momentum compounds.

• Written multiple short books—one clocked in at six HOURS from blank page to final draft.

Last week I was laying in a foam pit, watching my daughter toss a rubber ball in the air and narrate her own adventure. Time slowed. My phone wasn’t anywhere near my person. My wife was kneeling off to the side of the pit watching us. Calm washed over me.

You know, the calm that seeps into your muscles and bones. Where your body feels so relaxed you don’t even want to move.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re missing out.

Twenty-four hours later my wife and I cracked open a new game called Splitfiction. Picture flying farting pigs, cyber ninjas battling robo cops hell-bent on collecting parking ticket fees, and two adults laughing so hard we almost cried.

In that laughter I felt something click: THIS is why I BUILD.

I am here to prepare the world for my children and to prepare my children for the world. Real presence turns that mission from slogan to a real change in my living.

The insight hit hard: If I want my kids to believe a fulfilling life is possible, I have to model it now… not "someday" when the business finally feels “finished”.

My Mini-Framework: STATE → PRESENCE → SHARE

1. Manage your STATE
   • Feed your body. Move, breathe (important), HYDRATE THAT BODY.
   • Prepare your mind. Decide how you want to feel before you receive the day (Mitch Whiting talked about this recently).

If you’re in a crabby state then people don’t like you.
You don’t like you.
Stop it.

1. Decide to be PRESENT
   • Engage on purpose. Put the device away during the moments that matter (ideally, leave it at the door).
   • Let PLAY trump productivity. LAUGHTER resets the nervous system faster than any app.

My daughter knows when I’m present.
And she’s not even 2.
Your kids KNOW.

1. SHARE your stories and learning
   • Turn lived moments into stories that teach (for you and your kids!).
   • Wrap your expertise into books, emails, or talks so others can WIN from your learnings.

Building up your stories that you can share is one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.
It’s connected me more with my past.
And rewired my brain for gratitude.

Most of the world still believes you must choose: Hustle now or enjoy later. That lie drains purpose driven businesses of their power.

And it is a lie.

Choose different. Govern your state. Step into presence. Then hit record, hit publish, hit send. Your story will expand your impact AND remind you why the work matters.

This 4th of July I took a break!
I didn't look at my laptop.
I decreased my phone usage.
I read a book!
I played in a foam pit with my daughter.
I did a backwards swan dive that wasn't quite as graceful as I would have wanted.
I went on a bike ride with my brother and got to talk about all the greatness he is doing right now in his business!
I held my daughter while she watched fireworks and said "Whoaaaaaaa" over and over and over again.

That is the lifestyle I am after.

These past two weeks I listened to 2 books by Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan:

1. Who Not How

2. 10X Is Easier Than 2X

And if I had to life a life that reflected what I learned those books into a weekend, it would have been this weekend. =D

Take a break. Rest. Disconnect. Come back HEALTHY and WHOLE (and maybe a little full of red white and blue candy).

In 10X Is Easier Than 2X, one of the things Dan recommends to entrepreneurs is that they plan AT LEAST 180 free days into their calendar at the beginning of the year.

According to him, an entrepreneur's income will quickly double if you half the time they have to work.

In Who Not How Dan recommends shifting the question from "How Can I" to "Who Can Help/Do This For Me"?

These two pieces of advice have affected my every waking moment since I read them.

And I am now taking two actions:

1. I am planning days of rest! I am TAKING BREAKS!! No work. Just me, my brain, and my family.

2. I am actively looking for an executive assistant (talking with my business coach about it later today)

You can think of AI as a partial "Who" in your work. An AMPLIFIER for your work.

But it's only going to be as good as the input you give it. So if you're trying to do something you've never done before, it could AMPLIFY you straight into the ground (with negative values). And if you put it into the hands of an expert, it can easily 2X or 10X them.

Which means WHO not HOW is still the go to. Even with AI in the mix. So that you can:

1. Focus on your "Unique Ability"

2. Build the lifestyle you want

3. Create the impact you desire (without any of the silly stuff that drains you)

Another important piece to all of this (that I have learned over the last 3 months): You must know what you WANT.

What lifestyle do you want? How much time do you intend to spend working? How many days per year? Who do you WANT to work with? Think both clients and team member.

The simplicity really makes me laugh sometimes. All of our problems are human ones, no matter how much technology you layer on.

As Brendon Burchard puts it, we want to:

1. Build meaningful relationships

2. Pursue our purpose

3. Experience life and

4. Grow the first three over time

AI, done right, helps us do that.

It allowed me to take a break this weekend. And has helped me to find people I care to serve. And is helping me find people who can support my mission:

To further my mission, I intend to (re)write a book (in 30 days) that I will publish on August 1st.

The book will be called AI Possibilities.

I've found that the first problem people run into when using AI is that they don't know what it can do.

They "Don't know what they don't know."

This book is designed to break that problem open (just a bit).

I've trained thousands of professionals on the use of AI at this point.

And I'd like to further hone my message and make it as useful to you as possible.

Last Wednesday I stepped on a virtual stage for exactly 35 minutes.

When I got to my last slide, 28 people (!!!) rushed to sign up for a market-research call—so many that my software glitched under the load.

No fancy sales funnel.
No crazy slides.
Just one clear, emotionally-charged story about the problem they wake up with every day: pouring hours into content that never converts.

But here’s the plot twist most people miss.

For months my co-founder Benoît and I wrestled with WordLoom—our tool that helps coaches and creators make 30 pieces of content (emails, social posts, blogs, etc.) in 3 hours or less every month. As Ed Mylett says, I was “sharing ‘me’ stories with a ‘you’ meaning” for the audience:

• The pain: experts drowning in "post more" advice and still feel invisible.
• The conflict: my slog through posting every day for 9 months straight and landing one client… who refunded 2 weeks later
• The resolution: a repeatable system that turns one deep idea into a month of polished posts AND booked calls—without stealing family time.

I learned, once again, that your audience doesn’t buy features, they buy the FEELING you bring them. The FEELING that their story gets better starting today.

This is what we start with WHY.

   • Feed the AI your stories, tone, and frameworks.
   • Format with proven templates (e.g. Hook → Story → Offer).

My hands were still smudged with whiteboard marker when I typed the first prompt into Lovable. Patrick Diamond — my business coach — and I were mapping out my offers on a giant sheet of paper. I turned to him and asked, “What if I build us a quick app that shows exactly how many people we’d need in each program to hit my vision-budget goal of $222k — and we watch it update live?”

Normally—even with my software-developer background—that would mean spinning up an IDE, wrangling dependencies, and spending at least 30 minutes getting things set up.

2. Define the Output

• Spreadsheet, PDF, affirmation sheet, progress tracker — be specific.
• Visualize what your client holds in their hands (or on their screen) when they’re done.

3. List the Inputs & Actions

• What data does the user provide?
• What buttons, sliders, or uploads need to exist?
• Map them in plain language — no tech jargon required.

4. Feed It to Lovable

• Go to Lovable and paste your description.
• Watch the AI build everything in ~30 seconds.

5. Iterate in Conversation

• “Add 5 tiers of confidence with these names and average them…”
• “Match my brand colors. Here they are, primary…”
• “Add a button to save and export to PDF so I print it, but it below…”
Ask, refine, repeat until it’s perfect.
Provide as many changes as you want in each request (maximize the prompts you get).

My process is straightforward:

1. Start With The End In Mind – What do you want the output of the whole interaction to be? Give the AI a purpose, similar to yours.

2. Map the steps – what comes first, second, third?

   1. Be specific and clear. Name each step!

   2. Be sure to include substeps, if there are any

3. Define the inputs and outputs of each step – what does the AI need at each step, and what should it produce FROM that step?

   1. Should it create something you can copy and paste somewhere else?

   2. Should it gather information for the next step

4. Determine the context for each step – give the AI everything it needs to do each step right (this will be discovered through testing…).

Once that’s done, the AI becomes a guide.
A trainer.
A thinking partner.

For you AND your clients (I know it has for me).

Saving 8.5 Hours Per Client

One of my clients was spending 8–12 hours per client walking them through her process.

She wanted to scale, but couldn’t.
Her process took her too fetching long.

Over the course of a month, we built an AI assistant trained on her exact framework — one that analyzed inputs, generated insights, and guided the process.

My CRUSHING Epiphany

I didn’t realize how powerful content was... until I was standing in the shower, doing the math.

It had been two years and I was reviewing my “one-man army” crypto developer era.

In that era I had left the software agency I’d built with my brother. I had posted on Twitter every day. I even taught myself a new smart contract language in two weeks.

It was December 27th, 2022.

I was sitting at the kitchen table in my in-laws' home, tapping away at code.
To my right, my father-in-law, a chiropractor, was trying to build a Python script.

He’d never written code before. Not really.
But he was determined to create something that would save him time in his practice.

Every few minutes, he’d ask me a question.
I’d lean over, glance at his screen, and say:

That became our rhythm for three days.

By the end of it:

The Moment I Realized AI Was an Amplifier

When ChatGPT dropped, I sprinted in like a kid let loose in a LEGO store.
First test? Code.

Why? Code is rule‑dense. Strict syntax. Little room for “creative interpretation.”
Perfect playground for what I saw as a giant brain.

And it crushed.
Python scripts? Minutes.
Complex logic? Done.
Bugs? Mostly vanished.

But when I asked it to draft a simple email “in Sterling style”… Oof…
The result? Hours spent editing the crap AI gave me.

That mismatch sparked a thousand‑hour rabbit hole.
From that digging, a repeatable framework emerged that lets me predict 90% of the output before I hit enter.

I call it the 4‑Lever Framework.

Why “Levers”?

Think of ChatGPT as a massive machine-brain with billions of neurons.
Pull the right lever and the exact “neuron‑cluster” you need whirs to life.
Pull all four? You get useful, on‑brand, high‑value output on command.

Lever 1 – Give It a Role

“Act as a world‑class ghostwriter for mission‑driven coaches.”
That single line narrows the model’s focus to the “neural neighborhood” trained on copywriting, persuasion, and expert positioning.

Try it:

• “Act as my CFO.”

• “Act as Jordan Peterson.”

• “Act as a playful camp counselor teaching Python.”

Watch how tone, examples, and depth shift instantly.

Lever 2 – Provide an Output Template

Role says WHO it is.
Template tells it HOW to speak.

Break your template into three dials:

Pro move: Wrap placeholders in {curly braces} so ChatGPT knows exactly where to slot content.
Example prompt snippet:

Yeah, me too.
Crazy stuff.

Solution: scope and sequence.

• “Give me the first step only (≤ 200 words).”

• “List every sub‑task before you execute.”

• “Answer in bullets of max 15 words each.”

By chunking requests, you avoid overwhelm and steer the convo like GPS recalculating after every turn.

Lever 4 – Trigger Self‑Reflection

AI can hallucinate. You can miss blind spots.
Enter the mirror lever.

After the model responds, ask:

1. “List potential weaknesses or gaps in your answer.”

2. “Suggest three ways to improve accuracy or depth.”

3. “Identify assumptions you made, verify each.”

This step is SOOO valuable in fields you know NOTHING about (and in ideation)!

Putting It All Together (Mini Playthrough)

1. Role – “Act as a real estate attorney.”

2. Template – “Draft a rental agreement using sections A‑E, 150‑word max per section.”

3. Baby Step – “Outline the sections only. No content yet.”

4. Self‑Reflect – “What clauses might a tenant contest? Flag them.”

You iterate: outline → clause draft → gap check → final polish.
Result? A document that would cost $500 in billable hours, finished before lunch.
