It&#39;s like watching a plot unfold in a compelling sci-fi narrative. In this story, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer an aspiring actor rehearsing backstage; it&#39;s the protagonist in the limelight, altering the course of humanity. Most anticipate a dystopian future, but here&#39;s an unexpected twist: could the proliferation of AI actually spark a renaissance of philosophy and art, a new Romantic Period? I argue it will, and here&#39;s why.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">The Romantic Period was a rebellion against the rigid constraints of the Enlightenment, a resurgence of human emotions, creativity, and the celebration of the individual. As a case in point, Immanuel Kant, a quintessential Romantic philosopher, fervently championed the primacy of individual experience. Similarly, as AI permeates our world, I foresee a novel romanticism—a resurgence of what makes us distinctively human. As we develop machines that can emulate us, we are paradoxically prompted to explore what separates us from them.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Despite its impressive capabilities, AI lacks a core human trait: the depth of emotional comprehension, the subjective interpretation of experiences—essentially, the essence of humanity. Our interaction with AI starkly underscores this divide. This, I contend, will catalyze a renewed fascination with philosophy, which attempts to comprehend these uniquely human phenomena.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">The AI-driven world of big data and machine learning empowers us with extraordinary tools, but the sheer magnitude and complexity of it also brings us face to face with profound philosophical quandaries. As our digital counterparts grow more sophisticated, questions about consciousness, ethics, free will, and reality grow denser, driving a surge in philosophical exploration.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Moreover, the arts have always been a refuge, a sanctuary where we express our humanity in its rawest form. As AI&#39;s presence continues to proliferate, we will undoubtedly gravitate towards the arts to reaffirm our human identity, capturing the emotional depth and subjective interpretation that AI lacks. J.M.W. Turner, a revered Romantic artist, used his evocative landscapes to express emotional states—highlighting the connection between the human spirit and the natural world. This embodiment of human essence could find renewed relevance and resonance in our interaction with AI.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">In the past, philosophers and artists like Kant and Turner might have found themselves marginalized in the whirlwind of technological progress. Yet, in the AI era, they have an indispensable role. They guide us, helping us understand our place in this new world order, reminding us of our unique human spirit.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">So, far from being a threat, AI could very well prove to be an ally, urging us to delve deeper into our humanity, into our capacity to create, to feel, to understand—to be human. Isn’t that a romantic idea? </style><div class='beehiiv__body'><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"></p><div class="image"><img alt="" class="image__image" style="" src="https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/88181122-66d5-4254-bff4-90900e266a77/B3_5.png"/></div><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Over the past decade, cloud computing has revolutionized the way businesses operate, providing them with flexible, on-demand access to computing resources and data storage. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">I saw this first hand as a marketing manager at Google Cloud while working on Google Cloud Platform and Workspace. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">I had the amazing opportunity to be part of the teams to launch products like TensorFlow and Meet, and fought unsuccessfully to prevent Google Apps for Work from being rebranded as G Suite. 🙄 But I digress.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Large tech companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft dominate the cloud computing market. They provide services that many businesses rely on.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">For example, Twitter and Deutsche Bank use Google Cloud Platform, while OpenAI and LinkedIn store their data on Microsoft Azure.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">The cloud computing market is worth a lot of money—$570 billion currently, and it&#39;s projected to reach $1.6 trillion by 2030.</p><div class="image"><img alt="" class="image__image" style="" src="https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/7968b782-760e-47c9-9629-389f4d65d42f/cloud.png"/></div><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">However, there are downsides to the success of cloud computing:</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><b>1. Consolidation: </b>The power and influence of a few big companies in the industry is concerning. They control a significant portion of the tech industry.</p><div class="image"><img alt="" class="image__image" style="" src="https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/1248dd78-4a6c-461d-a05c-98420e1d87ed/Screen_Shot_2023-06-22_at_9.51.08_PM.png"/></div><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><b>2. Questionable security: </b>Cloud providers are attractive targets for hackers. Every year, more than $1 trillion is lost due to data breaches. User data is poorly managed and constantly at risk.</p><div class="image"><img alt="" class="image__image" style="" src="https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/a26c3f22-d937-4355-87ea-e71853fff582/Screenshot_2023-07-05_at_8.45.26_AM.png"/></div><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><b>3. Lack of digital ownership for end users: </b>Users have to give up control over their data in order to access the internet. They essentially mortgage their data without owning it.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Additionally, internet companies profit from user data without sharing much of it with the users themselves. The data of a typical adult in the US is valued at around $2 to $5 per month in digital advertising, making it a billion-dollar asset that users don&#39;t benefit from.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">However, a new era in the digital world is dawning, one where blockchains could potentially displace traditional cloud providers. At the heart of this transformation is Bitcoin, the pioneering decentralized digital currency built on a blockchain.</p><h2 class="heading" style="text-align:left;">Bitcoin and Blockchain: A Primer</h2><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Bitcoin was created in 2009 with the blockchain serving as its underlying technology. A blockchain is a distributed, decentralized ledger that records all transactions across a network of computers. This eliminates the need for a centralized authority, offering a high level of transparency and security. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Bitcoin, the first use case of blockchain, has shown the world the potential of this technology, beyond just a medium of financial transactions. This makes the data highly resilient, difficult to tamper with, and resistant to downtime. Companies like IPFS, Arweave, and Filecoin are already innovating in the decentralized storage space. But unlike traditional cloud providers, this decentralized model also means users maintain ownership of their data.</p><h2 class="heading" style="text-align:left;">The Economic Proposition</h2><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">One of the most compelling aspects of a blockchain-based cloud solution is the potential for cost savings. Decentralized cloud storage can leverage unused storage space around the world, leading to a competitive market for data storage and potentially lower prices. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Furthermore, using blockchain could mitigate the risks and costs associated with data breaches. As each data piece is encrypted and distributed across the network, an attacker would need to breach multiple nodes to obtain a complete dataset, which is both time-consuming and cost-prohibitive. </p><h2 class="heading" style="text-align:left;">Monetizing Decentralized Cloud</h2><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">In the current model, cloud providers like AWS are the principal benefactors of the economic value created by data storage. In a decentralized cloud model, value could be more equitably distributed across the network. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Users could be incentivized to lend their computing resources to the network, effectively earning Bitcoin for their storage contributions. This theory is evidenced in a study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, which found that too many choices can lead to decision paralysis and decreased satisfaction. </p><div class="blockquote"><blockquote class="blockquote__quote"></blockquote></div><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Before we draw hasty conclusions, let&#39;s take a pause. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">AI has not only made content creation easier but also content consumption. For instance, YouTube&#39;s AI-driven recommendation algorithm <a class="link" href="https://www.technologyreview.com/2022/09/20/1059709/youtube-algorithm-recommendations/#:~:text=YouTube&#39;s%20recommendation%20algorithm%20drives%2070,tools%20don&#39;t%20do%20much." target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">drives</a> more than 70% of total watch time on the platform, illustrating how the right content is finding us, and not vice versa.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Nevertheless, AI&#39;s transformative impact on the digital landscape has incentivized a favoritism for volume. In fact, YouTube creators uploaded 500 hours of <a class="link" href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/259477/hours-of-video-uploaded-to-youtube-every-minute/?utm_source=sadlowe.beehiiv.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=business-3-0-004-the-ai-content-revolution-unpacking-the-dynamics-of-supply-and-demand-of-digital-content-in-a-generative-ai-world#:~:text=Hours%20of%20video%20uploaded%20to%20YouTube%20every%20minute%202007%2D2022&text=As%20of%20June%202022%2C%20more,newly%20uploaded%20content%20per%20hour." target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">video</a> every minute in 2022, a sharp increase from previous years. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">But does this mean we are sacrificing the quality of content at the altar of quantity?</p><div class="blockquote"><blockquote class="blockquote__quote"></blockquote></div><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">A recent <a class="link" href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbesagencycouncil/2021/05/17/gen-z-and-the-rise-of-social-commerce/?sh=3696b93a251d&utm_source=sadlowe.beehiiv.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=business-3-0-004-the-ai-content-revolution-unpacking-the-dynamics-of-supply-and-demand-of-digital-content-in-a-generative-ai-world" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">report</a> found that 61% of Gen Z users prefer creators who interact with their followers, indicating a shift towards valuing the connection between creators and their audience.</p><div class="blockquote"><blockquote class="blockquote__quote"></blockquote></div><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">According to a CMO Council report, 90% of customers say authenticity is important when deciding which brands they like and support, suggesting audiences are evolving from being mere consumers to becoming active participants in the content journey.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">After thoughtful analysis, here&#39;s the crucial point to understand: </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">An abundance of content does not necessarily herald a decline in demand. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">According to an Insider Intelligence <a class="link" href="https://www.insiderintelligence.com/content/us-time-spent-with-media-2022?utm_source=sadlowe.beehiiv.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=business-3-0-004-the-ai-content-revolution-unpacking-the-dynamics-of-supply-and-demand-of-digital-content-in-a-generative-ai-world" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">report</a>, adults in the US spent an average of 13 hours and 11 minutes per day consuming media in 2022, a rise from previous years. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">This suggests that we&#39;re not necessarily seeing a decrease in demand, but a shift in how demand is understood and evaluated. </p><div class="blockquote"><blockquote class="blockquote__quote"></blockquote></div><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">So, the question isn&#39;t whether demand for content will decrease, but rather how it will evolve in the face of AI and an exponentially increasing supply. </p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">The answers to these questions will shape not just the digital However, what&#39;s intriguing is that Bitcoin and Ethereum (currently not categorized as securities) only experienced a modest 3% drop, displaying resilience.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">But if you pause and contemplate, what truly surprises is that despite the onslaught of adverse headlines, stringent regulations imposed by the SEC, and wild price fluctuations, the community of crypto enthusiasts continues to expand year after year.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">A recent piece in the <a class="link" href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/cryptos-quiet-gains-ownership-climbs-despite-crash-in-prices-af76cdd6?mod=Searchresults_pos1&page=1&utm_source=sadlowe.beehiiv.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=business-3-0-002-the-tenacity-and-worth-of-crypto-s-pioneers" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">WSJ</a>, along with a report by <a class="link" href="https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/04/10/majority-of-americans-arent-confident-in-the-safety-and-reliability-of-cryptocurrency/?utm_source=sadlowe.beehiiv.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=business-3-0-002-the-tenacity-and-worth-of-crypto-s-pioneers" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Pew</a>, sheds light on these trends and paints a portrait of the crypto user base that brands would be wise to acknowledge.</p><h2 class="heading" style="text-align:left;">Explosive Crypto Growth Mirrors Technology Adoption</h2><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Around 30 million American adults have embraced crypto. The question isn&#39;t whether crypto will achieve mainstream status, but rather when it will happen and what toll it might take on existing users. And regulation could come sooner than some might think, as the <a class="link" href="https://twitter.com/GOPMajorityWhip/status/1668762673813549056?utm_source=sadlowe.beehiiv.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=business-3-0-002-the-tenacity-and-worth-of-crypto-s-pioneers" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">House has a bill</a> on the table that would disarm the aggressive SEC.</p><h2 class="heading" style="text-align:left;">Demographics of Crypto Investors: A Call to Action for Businesses and Marketers</h2><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">A glance at the demographics of crypto investors reveals a notable trend—males between 18 and 40 years old represent a substantial portion of this user base. There are 420 million crypto users worldwide with a market cap around $1 trillion. That values the US crypto user base around $70 billion. Indeed, these early adopters typically stand at the forefront of novel movements.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Hence, it is wise for businesses and marketers to devise a Web 3.0 strategy, despite the industry&#39;s challenges.
