August’s progress in a nutshell

Two main events mark August:

• Aggre’s conference during ETH Tokyo 2024. But wait, before you start, think Aggre edited the community newsletter before sending it out; you must know that Aggre’s conference title, “True, real-life token-enabled projects: Mechanisms and Impacts,” unveils the roadmap and next steps of Clubs. Go Real with Clubs is more a strategy rather than a catchy phrase!

• Stake.social (SS) migration to Clubs. For the people that do not know. SS will not be maintained anymore, so existing creators are advised to set up a Club to enjoy the same functionalities of SS and an arsenal of new features.

Key takeaways from the “Go Real with Clubs” presentation

• With 97% of the global population not using blockchain, the Total Addressable Market (TAM) is huge. The real challenge is to make that 3% grow. That is why we focus on DAO, functionalities, and no-code technologies. Clubs is the product of this focus.

• Clubs is built on the DEV Protocol, a revenue engine that enables monetization through tokenization of the creator’s asset and staking the DEV token. The comprehensive ecosystem of Clubs allows creators to expand their fan base fully. Each time a fan purchases a membership, the Club’s revenue channel increases, and a portion, determined by the creator, is converted into DEV staking. A real win-win relationship.

• The short-term target is to focus on gaming. With most features related to increased monetization, revenue split, and vertical collaboration, Clubs can tackle many drawbacks in this industry, having on top of the benefits of open-source code for plugin integrations and UI selection.

• The long-term focus is on gaining the trust of top anime, game, and manga creators in Japan by converting their amazing work into real-world, successful businesses.

Why should I care about the SS migration?

• The short answer is simple: It is for your own benefit! The DEV Protocol team has always focused on transforming the global creator economy. SS was an early version of how to do it. However, as the world has changed, so have our products. That is why Clubs is the next logical step, with its features focused on assisting creators.

• If you are a creator with an existing asset on SS, we have covered you. Depending on which network you were in at the moment of tokenization, the step-by-step guide will illustrate everything to make your transition as smooth as possible.

• If some believe the DEV token ends due to the SS closure, that’s a mere superstition. As explained, Clubs use the DEV Protocol infrastructure to run their monetization operations. By running a simulation, each Club with at least 10 members equals almost a dozen projects at SS in terms of staked DEV tokens.

• Please note that SS will no longer be maintained. Transition to Clubs as soon as possible to be part of the transformation of the global creator economy! We suggest all SS users migrate to Clubs ASAP.

July’s progress in a nutshell

• The total number of clubs created grew by 2%, reaching the 778th Club created.

• Currently working on an onboarding project for Clubs for the Indie Game Team as it is planned to announce the Tokyo Game Show next month.

• Most of the meetings will be in person at the end of August for the ETH Tokyo event, having Aggre, our CTO, as a speaker. Do not you dare to miss him out!

• Onboarding Flow: Developing a new, simple, and quick onboarding flow that lets you create your club in less than 30 seconds.

• New Theme Design: We're designing a new theme specifically for selling digital items, not just memberships. This theme offers a better UX for content creators.

• Achievement Plugin: Enhanced to support multiple recipients.

• Vault Contract: Conducted several simulation checks and continued working on feedback to enhance the Vault Contract.

Special feature introduction

Most people would argue that passports are a mechanism of frontier control to preserve safety. Others will say that it is a shield for wealthy economies. The truth is simpler for Clubs as its new passport function allows users who do not have an e-wallet to be part of the Clubs’ ecosystem, and, along with it, to the crypto world.

Forget about complex installations of foxes and weird “e” shaped logos. You just need an email Gmail or Discord account, and voila! You can start collecting badges a.k.a. unique and non-transferable NFT.

Instead of visas and entry/exit stamps, the Clubs passport will display NFTs and achievements received in Clubs. Isn’t the coolest passport ever created?

• A total of 760 Clubs are created with around 5% of them with at least one member.

• Clubs surpassed the 400th member last month, growing 15%.

• The community newsletter reached its 12th edition. Since last year +2K unique openers were informed about the latest Clubs’ news.

• The impressions on LinkedIn have grown by 13% since May.

Founders

Along with developing fun and exciting features, founders must take care of business perspectives. One of them is the market. How exactly do they know what creators need in the beginning? One simple answer is research, research and, you guessed it right, more research! This month the founder team focused on redefining the creator's profile and characteristics, calculating the market size accordingly. Do you want one last sneak peek? Intellectual Property (IP) is the set of words that are frequently used. Also, Mayumi signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with a stellar entertainment company, marking the first step of a game-changing partnership. More news is under development! Finally, the founders were making some tweaks to the web page and investor’s deck to properly reflect the changes discussed during the second quarter.

Business team

Kaoru, the Business Developer Manager, is starting conversations with major players in the Clubs community to incentivize the use of Invitations and Achievements, the two latest new features. These Clubs, besides having a large community under their sleeve, are enthusiastic about adding more people to their wagon, so sending a personalized gift is the perfect match for that idea. In addition, an important task of business is to constantly assess the competition. Hence, the business team did thoughtful research about the competitive advantages of Clubs-like products. Sometimes the research may involve contacting current customers to get insights and talk about Clubs ;).

Governance team

This month the governance team, led by Mariko, performed some supportive tasks. like helping with market research, adding new features to the Charmverse help page, and testing new incoming features. The market research took several variables that acted as filters of a funnel, concluding that there are +350M creators and businesses with the dire need of Clubs. The help page was summarized to make it more straightforward and simple. If you have any feedback, please share it with us through Discord. Finally, Achievements and Invitations are bug-free to be on your hands (or keyboard) soon!

Discover what is new in Clubs

• A professor at the university once told me that, it does not matter that something works, it must look nice. This month the product team followed that advice, and worked on Clubs UX, especially on the onboarding, posts, and Admin page.

• Some miscellaneous improvements were post deletion (Admin can now delete posts), adding to the calendar (Huddle01 video calls can now be added to your favorite calendar), and Japanese localization (if you are in Japan, probably the welcome message will be like this ようこそ).

• Invitations and Achievements, probably the most mentioned words in this newsletter, are coming soon! The team focused on testing and debugging to have everything ready for the release date.

• The ecosystem fee was finally introduced. A 2.5% transaction fee on membership purchases as an Ecosystem Fee for a 15% or lower staking fee. Along with this news, paid plans were also introduced with three simple tiers, allowing creator to suit their expectations. If you want to know more, please follow this page.

• The number of published Clubs grew by 76%, reaching 352.

• There are a total of 25 Clubs with at least 1 member.

• Up to date, 19B+ DAO tokens have been created.

• The $DEV Price advanced by 3.8% during May.

• The Web3 Report reached 387 recipients, having a 4.2% growth rate.

• The X’s engagement rate and followers growth last month was 16% and 19%, respectively.

Founders

Busy, busy, busy was the word to describe the week in May for Mayu, Aggre, and Mariko. A new Clubs structure, more features, fresh content, and extra fun were the topics discussed and developed during the meetings. After working on a renewal of Clubs, which will be officially announced to the public soon, the founder team pitched it to investors/partners in May, and the response was fantastic! It is going to be a revolution for creators!

Also, the founder team is in conversation with a heavy-weight champion entertainment industry company. If the partnership materializes, it will be a before and after for creators. Again, we can not comment much, but send your best energy to the team like the world did with Goku for his Genkidama.

Business team

Kaoru Kimura, DEV’s Business Developer Manager, took it out of the field with a presentation at 7 minutes, which was attended by Japanese local governments. After the event, several organizations inquired about introducing DAOs, and meetings are underway to launch DAOs. It is not only the business community and creators that are looking for a new platform but the public sector as well. The idea behind these and other activities is to increase Clubs for Public exposure, attracting partnerships like Metawater. The final objective is to set up more Clubs that add value to society.

Governance team

The governance team finished its task of developing the Web3 report series. Mariko and the team will conclude the series with the following titles:

• Web3 Report - Part 4.1 ”Web3: Current regulatory landscape - an Overview”

• Web3 Report - Part 4.2 ”Web3: Current regulatory landscape - Examples”

The last part focused on how is the crypto adoption worldwide according to each country's regulation. After the task, an analytics report was performed to measure the effectiveness of the strategy.

• Two major milestones were achieved this month, Clubs have new features like Achievements and Invitations live. There are some limitations to certain Clubs, but it is only a matter of days before everyone can enjoy these features.

• Another important milestone reached was done on Posts. Currently, you can interact with Posts until your session ends after just one wallet sign-in. Say goodbye to sign multiple times to while commenting and reacting to a post. Additionally, an issue related to the emojis was fixed. Now you can react properly!

• A never-ending task for Stu, Yash, and Shubham is debugging. The pre-release site, DB, and tickets were particularly affected but now are fixed. There are still some other major bugs like iOS Metamask, but the product team is the ghostbuster of insects!

• Next level: New Clubs. Challenge accepted!

• The past week the 713th Club was officially activated.

• The YoY April growth in property tokens reached 37.5%.

• Out Tweets had 18% more impressions than last month with a 4% of engagement rate.

Founders

The founders, as always, used various hats to complete an infinite to-do list. Besides leading the product and PR team, they are designing the Clubs’ strategy and fundraising documents in preparation for several meetings with prospective investors. Do not forget that Frame00, the legal entity behind DEV Protocol’s flagship product of Clubs, is a startup that needs to complete funding rounds. Hence, to persuade investors, the vision of Clubs will focus on empowering individuals to create their own economy with no-code tools in the Web3. Wish the founders luck on this critical endeavor!

Business team

As team members aim in the same direction, Kaoru was busy designing the future Clubs’ membership plans. With a comprehensive methodology based on the cost structure, he came out with three categories that will be publicly disclosed in some time. He is also joining the founder team during meetings to give business-perspective advice. Besides, the business team took care of the customer’s follow-up of Metawater and Crypto Café to ensure optimal performance and experience.

Governance team

The governance team continued its task of developing the Web3 report series. Mariko and the team will conclude the series with the following chapters:

Discover what is new in Clubs

Besides other complementary activities, the product team dealt with three fronts: Achievements, Passports, and Huddle01.

• For the achievements plug-in, a demo was prepared for the whole team to be on the same page, and further testing was made to follow a QA process. Achievements follow a gamification strategy to enable creators ways to incentivize their fans. More news will come!

• The Passport feature was officially added so that card-holders can manage their memberships, check their Clubs’ activities, collect cards, and show off their progress to friends.

• Huddle01 was a major improvement for Clubs as it added powerful communication functionalities, replicating instant videotelephony. Now creators can collaborate with colleagues, host virtual meetings, or catch up with friends.

Some other complementary activities involved:

• Through the localization feature, the Japanese language was added to the memberships setup flow, Posts and Voting. Dōmo arigatōgozaimasu to the product team!

• A migration from the Mumbai to Polygon testnet is underway. This will entail redeploying contracts and updating UIs.

• Debugging, debugging, and more debugging. Yash, Stu, and Shubham were busy fixing some annoying bugs in the process of creating new Clubs, UI in general, DB, Posts, and Dynamic Wallet integration.

• As social media plays a pivotal role in the development of Clubs, several “Share on [Insert your favorite Social Network]” will arrive soon. The latest was “Share on X”.

Meet a DEV member

Kaoru Kimura, Business Development and Partnership Manager of FRAME00 Inc. Joined FRAME00 in 2022. He lives in Tokyo, loves music and books, and lives with his three dogs. He used to be a backpacker, wandering around Asia and the US. Kaoru constantly searches for "one value" that will change the world.

Even though there were people who started different paths over the year, the motivation to accomplish the dream remained the same. The team is obsessed with creating a decentralized economy for creators, and with every day that passes we are closer to reaching our mission. Hi Clubbers! Two months of 2024 have been strikethrough so far! Time flights when you are occupied, and that happened to us during February. We have many news so let’s dive into them!

Check February’s progress

• As of February 28th, the DEV price was quoted at 0.2642 USD with a market cap of 629.485 USD, according to CoinGecko. A multiplier of 1.6x for the prior!

• The total number of Clubs grew by 6%, having a total of 637 activated Clubs.

• There is a total of 242 Clubs’ members, which represents a 42% increase since last month.

• The average engagement rate for X and LinkedIn is 8% in both cases.

• The verdict of this month is: Very Positive

Founders

“Businesses are built by networking” is a phrase in a Forbes article that explains the importance of constructing long-lasting and meaningful relationships with people both inside and outside of a specific industry. That is what the founder team was up to, of course, besides their daily time-consuming product development agenda. Some examples of the latter are Aggre joining the Chinese New Year's party for investors and Mayumi attending the other post-conference meeting on the METAWATER release day.

Business team

As many of you may know, METAWATER’s joint venture was a big deal secured by Kaoru, our senior business developer. The latter experience has opened a door for many public and private enterprises looking for similar collaborations, which strengthened our B2B channel. Kaoru and the team are working on assessing the potential of these proposals. As always, Kaoru’s work can not be disclosed yet! BUT we have as a target a very BIG entertainment company on the roadmap!

Governance team

The governance team continued its task of developing the Web3 report series. So far, Mariko and the team have developed:

• Web3 Report - Part 1 “4 Fundamental Models of DAO Governance"

• Web3 Report - Part 2 ”The Current State of DAO Governance”

The team is preparing the two following parts, which will explain how DEV envisions the future of governance for Clubs and what is the regulatory framework in Japan and worldwide. Do not you dare to miss the next parts of our Web3 Report!

The developer team finished some very expected features like private admin areas and free memberships. The prior will allow creators to restrict the admin settings of the Clubs. Safety-oriented features for creators come first as always! The latter, free memberships, is being tested on the pre-release environment. We can expect to be on the creators’ hands in a matter of days

Also, Stu, Yash, and Shubham started to work on the invitation feature. It will allow creators to send DM to potential members of their Clubs. The team finished the endpoint to claim invitations and added an ID duplication check.

Finally, some updates for our partnership with Metawater were on the plate this month. This includes working on the SBT contracts.

Meet a DEV member

Kent has been on the Dev Protocol team since August 2020 as a communication lead. Working as an in-house interpreter/translator, he is a university lecturer and a freelance translator based in the Tokyo metropolitan area. He is into traveling to temples, shrines, and sacred places to get inspiration from Buddhism/Shintoism arts and great nature.

As we noticed that many members of our community are keen to know more about the Clubs’ progress and functionality releases, we decided to slightly change the structure of our newsletter by focusing more on the product team endeavors. • During 2023, 230K DEV tokens were staked.

• Clubs grew by 5% last month surpassing the 600 opened Club.

• so far, 170 individuals joined a published Club as members.

Know about what we were up to

Founders

The founder team kicked off the year strongly as they were planning the next moves of Clubs, setting milestones, and reviewing the performance. To avoid one of the common reasons a startup fails, founders engage in conversations with investors to plan the fundraising path of Frame00 Inc., the legal entity of DEV Protocol. Particularly, Mayu, the CEO, has been busy leading the communications and PR strategy, and Aggre, on the other hand, is developing some topic-specialized Clubs to diversify the existing categories of active Clubs.

Business team

In Bolivia, a Spanish-speaking country, we have a saying: “La rompió” (He broke up it) when someone performed an outstanding work or achieved. This month, our senior business developer, Kaoru Kimura, la rompió as he closed a partnership with a key infrastructure company. The agreement is solid proof that Clubs is a versatile product for enterprises where the limit is only the imagination. A featured article will contain more details about it in a couple of weeks. Wait for it!

Governance team

Last January 25th, “Masaaki Taira, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party's web3 project team, announced that his proposal regarding the creation of rules for DAOs was approved by the Liberal Democratic Party's Policy Research Council on the same day.” His proposal, in short, will create a regulatory framework to accelerate the use of DAO safely. The governance team, led by Mariko - COO, has the same intention. The strategy, which began with Clubs eKYC, will have its second milestone by releasing a series of four articles describing Web3 governance and its regulatory landscape. These reports will be available exclusively for creators with an activated Club, for more details enter here.

Discover what is new in Clubs

There were two major improvements this month, Clubs Shop and Posts. With the prior, creators can now easily create their collections by using different functionalities like timed exclusives and sales quantity restrictions. The latter, Clubs Posts will add exclusivity to creators by including a dedicated feed to membership-only fans.

Additionally, the product team is adding a localization feature to detect and adjust the language of Clubs webpage to Japanese (more languages are coming soon!). On a lesser exciting news, We found some users were abusing the ability to pick any subdomain. Hence, some safeguards were added at the moment to setting the domain.

The never-ending debugging task was also present this month as the product team dealt with some dependency-related bugs, which affected the released features.

Finally, there are, on the developing pipeline, two major functionalities. 1) An admin-only area (currently everyone can access it so that an opt-in permission will be installed) and 2) Free claimable memberships (perfect to attract and retain new fans).

Yash Agrawal is one of our core developers. He joined the team in December 2022. He comes from Mumbai, India- the Island City is known for its nightlife and distinctive street food. Happy New Year to all our beloved Clubbers! The DEV Protocol team wishes you a 2024 full of creators’ prosperity and a happy decentralized economy!

According to some Eastern civilizations, 2024 is the Wood Dragon year, which may influence our wishes to come true. The dragon symbolizes leadership and wood spring. Together have the meaning of by cultivating strong leadership skills as roots of personality, success is guaranteed if the person can seize the right opportunities. With Clubs, creators can not have capacity-building on leadership matters (Or they can?🤔), but they can have many plug-ins and features to enhance their projects with Web3 superpowers.

Before thinking about the future, let’s take 4 to 5 minutes to know how we ended the last month of 2023, shall we?

• As a global product, Clubs must be democratized for all its users. Even though English is the most spoken language in the world, Mayu, our CEO, decided to develop and add a localization feature to Clubs’ webpage. This functionality will detect your language, currently only for EN and JA, and automatically translate the content into the language of your country of residence. On the other hand, Aggre, the CTO, experienced a heavy load of work these past weeks, doing the technical side of business proposals (partnerships with an experience-centric restaurant and big entertainment company should arrive any moment!).

• The business team is preparing a home run for 2024 with the next featured Clubs and partnerships. The release of ANIJINJA, led by Aggre, is part of a strategy to show Clubs’ use cases to make creators aware of our product scope. Also, Kaoru, the Senior business developer of DEV Protocol, delivered a lecture at the TSM focusing on the practical usages of Web3 to the industry, having activated a Club for the occasion (more details about it in the next days). There will be additional news to come related to Japanese local governments, an infrastructure company and more!

• As many of you may know, the second release cycle was deployed last week, and with it, the features of Withdrawal, Clubs KYC, and Clubs shop are live for creators like you! However, the product team has enough time to take care of side tasks like refactoring posts and automating mailing follow-ups. The team had challenging weeks, full of UI/UX feedback and improvements, but the members managed to have everything on time. A round of applause for them! 👏🏼

• The startup world is full of jargon like Boot-Strapping, Ramen Profitable, and, a favorite, Low Hanging Fruit. One of the terms that best describes the governance team is generalist. Contrary to a specialist, a generalist is a person who can practically know a lot of subjects but does not master one in particular. Hello Clubbers! We are here to share some exciting news about Clubs! In the last release newsletter, we focused on monetization (ticketing), community interactions (posts), and payment support (Crossmint and Club’s Payments). However, this time the developer team, led by Aggre, made a true homerun with this release cycle’s features.

Withdrawal

Since 2014, the DEV Protocol team, inspired by Mayumi’s vision, has been building Web3-based solutions to create a decentralized economy for creators. Today, that vision is taking shape. It is not surprising that creators were economically undervalued, making only a tenth of the revenue of a gaming company. Nevertheless, with the Withdrawal function, you will say “Sayonara” to hidden fees of platforms and expensive financial settlements and “Irasshaimase” to a decentralized economy.

To get to the point, the withdrawal feature is under the “Funds” section on the landing page of your Club, and it will allow creators to cash out their fiat and crypto received through Clubs. To start, you will have to connect your wallet, in case you have not done it before, and complete the eKYC process, which takes 3 to 5 minutes (Safety first, always!). Once the two last steps are completed, the page will display the amount of withdrawable amounts available. That’s it! No additional operations or complex steps. It is too simple! Also, for every transaction, creators will need to pay a gas fee for the network’s usage, and there will be a cap on the amount to be withdrawn depending on the wallet’s network.

As the founder team is not only ahead in time (14 hours from EST to JST) but also in plans for future developments, the next features on the roadmap for withdrawals are: Display the cap amount per network connected, add a multi-currency converter to display a single balance on the preferred currency or crypto, send the available amounts to any DeFi pools, among many others.

Clubs KYC

As you may remember, the eKYC was a feature introduced to complement the withdrawal flow. It was conceived by the founder team, along with the governance directors, to signal the Clubs’ safety. Here is a complete explanation for those who do not remember the KYC.

Today, we are doing the official launch of the Clubs KYC, which will make supporters feel more willing to contribute to a specific Club as they will know that the creator behind the DAO went through a security measure. Using the service provided by a third party, the product team developed a process that makes everything less complex. Users only need to upload a photo of their passport, driver’s license, or ID card and take a selfie (Yes, you are reading well, just two steps). After submitting both requirements, you only need to rest a couple of minutes to let the magic happen, as the validation process happens immediately. Once the system completes it, you are ready to enjoy the funds your Club collected!

This functionality is part of the web3 governance policy, a novel approach that the governance team is working on, and will add a layer of protection for creators. The policy was developed to protect the vision we value most: “Enable a decentralized economy for creators”.

Clubs Shop

By doing this section, it was shocking the number of articles on the web stating startups must take user-centric approaches to build successful products. From HBR to Forbes, the authors discussed flexibility in the product is desirable among heterogeneous societies. In the case of Clubs, using the same principle, we are empowering creators with collections to make life easier for their supporters to contribute to their projects.

Until now, a regular Club has worked on a membership-based model. Similar to Patreon, creators get paid by their supporters, who set an amount every month. However, As Clubs’ developers like to break the “status quo”, Clubs Shop offers a range of possibilities that are only limited by the imagination of creators. For the moment, there are time-limited memberships (special for specific periods of the year like the spooky season or to deliver a shot of rush for a high-demand perk) and quantity-limit memberships (excellent for physical products with stock).

Clubs Shop is an optional plug-in, meaning that it can installed and used at discretion. Also, another benefit of it is that the feature has a draft functionality, which helps creators build prospect collections or visualize past ones. This is only the tip of the iceberg for the Clubs Shop plug-in! More news will come!

Many people have been asking us how to receive the community newsletter straight into their mail or if a subscription is attached to it. Although the idea of adding a revenue stream to Clubs is tempting, we will leave aside our inner Scrooge McDuck this time, as the newsletter was conceived as a bridge to our community and Dev Protocol´s team. So, you only need to scroll down to the very end of this page and type your mail, and you are done!

What did we do this month?

• The Founder team this month had it clear regarding the priorities to focus on. As DevProtocol is progressing fast, having at least one update per week, Mayu has assembled a complete Public Relationships (PR) schedule and created media content templates to communicate these updates to our community properly. On the other hand, Aggre worked, like a swordsmith curve and polished a Katana, on running Quality Assurance (QA) tasks and fine-tuning Clubs´ UI, especially the social login.

• Given that the product team is located in two different time zones, India (GMT+5:30) and Japan (GMT+9), the development work performed by Stu, Shubham, and Yashdesu has no rest. When one goes for lunch, the other starts the day, and so on. That restless work is reflected in the continuous progress made in the KYC (pre-step to withdraw the Clubs’ earnings), localization (automated text translation based on your access point), and Collections feature. Also, as everything starts and ends with a DB, some refactoring work was done to scale up the posts plugin.

• Kaoru, who leads the business team, rolled his sleeves this month as he completed some important deals. To start, TANA DAO, a community dedicated to cultivating terraced rice paddies, went live thanks to Kaoru´s efforts and network. A demo for a water sanitation facility took place some days ago with a “clear” future ahead for the project. Finally, the business team delivered two lectures about DAO at the Tokyo School of Music. You may be guessing why. Simple! Creators of music content must be supported from earlier ages and encouraged to continue their work.

• The governance team, led by Miya, had more desk-related work. The team researched and evaluated work with enterprises' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), analyzing the scope and possible risks. Also, the Club's KYC article was made and posted some days ago, symbolizing the start of the club’s governance structure, which was planned and developed months ago. Finally, a task that will run until December, the team is assessing the creation of a revenue stream through B2B consultancy services.

What you can not miss…

On November 27th, the founder and business team gave a DAO workshop for companies. Mayu, Mariko, Aggre, and Kaoru delighted the audience with the pragmatic use of Clubs to solve enterprises’ complex problems. The use cases presented are part of Kaoru's plan to expand Club adoption in the B2B segment.

Hi dear Clubbers! It is the beginning of a new month! This means it is time for another version of the community newsletter. This past month, October, time flew as we have major improvements and updates to share with you as well as more humor-led fun facts and team members’ introductions. Let’s begin!

What did we do this month?

• Remember when in a previous community newsletter, we said that Aggre was wearing the 10’s shirt? Well, this month, he wore the goalkeeper as the debugging tasks, especially for Posts and the metadata for sToken, were on his charge, assuring a smooth functioning for the release. On the other hand, competent CEOs paint their vision vividly and regularly, among other good practices, to bring their vision to life. That is why Mayumi is brainstorming on our Discord channel for the next features to be released. Some ideas have been shared, like the ability to join an anime-watching party for NFT holders or automatically generated OGP for the default theme based on an uploaded picture.

• Something important that was absent from the community newsletter, until now, was the analytics dashboard created by the product team. As Peter Drucker once said: “You can’t improve what you don’t measure”, which is pretty accurate to describe the compass of the continuous work done by Stu, Shubham, and Yashdesu. Also, the product team developed, tested, and deployed the withdrawal page. With a comprehensive UI, your Club will display how much DEV/USDC/MATIC you have made through membership sales, how much DEV you have made staking, and other useful details. This feature is another milestone towards the creation of a sustainable creator’s economy as it will allow users to withdraw the funds they have earned through membership sales (This is huge guys! Please give a round of applause to the product team!).

• Did you know that the user’s engagement increases by 6x when a message uses written and multimedia resources? (That is why Kaoru, the leader of the business team, dedicated his time to planning multiple press releases about strategic partners we are doing business with. As most of these releases will come soon and others are just “drafts”, we can give some sneak peeks about the work! 1) a plan to promote the community through DAOs using Clubs, 2) a seminar for schools and businesses on DAOs and Clubs, 3) a plan to promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities on Clubs, and 4) two new DAO initiatives just waiting for credit card (CC) payment rollout, 5) A big IT player is paying attention to Clubs’ use case. To be honest, the work led by Kaoru must have some degree of discretion as most business updates can not be public until they are confirmed, and also because it is bad luck too 😉.

• This time, the governance team had to eat their vegetables first, as Mariko, assisted by other team members, organized, curated, and complemented the Terms and Conditions (T&C) and Terms of Use (No, they are not the same! Seriously!). The prior is the focus of creators, project owners, and the latter is for members of each Club and for purchasers with fiat money. Also, an Act on Specified Commercial Transactions was added as a set of rules for Clubs that use VeriTrans payments, one of our latest incorporated features. Safety and reliability are the state of mind of the governance team, so we will develop a googolplex amount of agreements to ensure them 💪🏼. All the documents are contained here for you.

• In chess, every piece is fundamental to developing a strategy. For instance, there are a total of 355 different paths to mate using three moves, which includes around from 4 to 8 pieces to execute. The support team, which has not been mentioned until now, has been doing behind-the-curtain work to make everything happen smoothly. A great example of this is Kent’s user guides. As there are many features that will be implemented into Clubs, the management team asked Kent to expand the help pages for users of Clubs to facilitate the life of our beloved creators. The English version of the guide will be published one article at a time as soon as it is completed. If there is a feature you would like to know more about, please tell us! Hello dear Clubbers! We are here again with more exciting news. A long time ago, the founders decided to focus on the development of more functionalities for Clubs to keep empowering creators with web3-superpowers. Given that vision encompassed by a dedicated product and business team, today, we can proudly release the first cycle of core features for Clubs.

Following our user-centric approach for development cycles, the introduced features are the result of carefully listening to creators like you! That is why most of them are associated with monetization (ticketing), community interactions (posts), and payment support (Crossmint and Veritrans). Do you want to know more? Do not worry about it. In the following paragraphs, we will do a deep dive into them!

Tickets

Given the uprising after the pandemic, the event ticket industry has experienced a growth from 2022 to 2023 of around 25% with a projected revenue of 77.53bn USD in 2023. However, the other side of the coin has shown that scams are a typical practice in this industry. With over 3.3bn USD of losses reported in concert ticket scams, the industry's second-largest segment. If there was only a way to empower creators with a monetization feature that included tickets selling in a safe and secure manner. Oh, wait! That feature exists, it is called Ticketing. It is a new functionality that allows creators to offer access to online, on-site events, short- or long-term priority admission, or anything else that the creative brains of our user occurs. The best part is everything happens in the same DEV protocol infrastructure, which says “Sayonara” fraudulent scammers.

Posts

Similar to a conventional social networking service, the Posts feature enables users to engage with contributors and community members by replying to articles and photographs with emoji reactions and comments. Clubs’ users can install the plugin, which can take up to 3 minutes to do it. Currently, there are 9 emojis to react to a post (👍🏼 🎉 ❤️ 🚀 🙏🏼 👏🏼 🔥 🤔 👀), but in the near future, more will be added up or even personalized. (Shigetaka Kurita, the emoji’s father, is smiling right now).

Pay by Card - Crossmint

As many users want to support the work done by their favorite creators, the product team installed an easy-to-use payment gateway plugin called Crossmint. The gateway encrypts the card details, carries out fraud checks, transfers the users' information and transaction details to the creator's acquirer, and charges the issuing banks the target amount. All the mentioned steps took around 7 seconds to happen! Also, given Clubs transcend the boundaries of the known geography, multiple currencies are supported. The product team developed an integration of different payment providers to support fiat payments when buying memberships.

Clubs Payments

As there are around 2.5 credit cards per person in developed countries and 21,510 transactions per second, Clubs would be crazy not to have supported payments with credit cards (CC) to buy memberships. That is where VeriTrans integration comes into play. In Japan, DG Financial Technology, formerly VeriTrans, has plenty of experience working with a variety of online retailers, so it was logical to be selected as our credit card payment provider.

The process is everything except complicated. The membership buyer needs to introduce some basic information to switch to a credit card payment. Once the payment is completed and a few minutes later, the item will be successfully minted.

NOTE: VeriTrans is not open to the public as Crossmint. It requires a creator's request to the DEV team to start using it.

Hello hello, another month down building out Clubs, and, of course, the latest edition of the community newsletter comes with it. So, take a 5-minute break from your routine and enjoy reading about the ultimate improvements of Clubs, get to know DEV protocol’s team members, and share fascinating (fun) facts.

Before starting…

According to Forbes, to avoid trillions of USD per year on bills, the workplace has to be sharper in effective communication skills. A tip that the DEV team follows is to communicate the right way. An example of that good practice is this month the product team scheduled three feature demos (CrossMint payments, Memberships, and Posts). The whole team knew what the product team had to accomplish, but, illustrating the features through live sessions, allowed the members to be on the same page, and went a step further by assigning related tasks like writing user manuals (support team), user validations (business team), and QA for debugging (product team). A great example of communication and collaboration!

Ok cool, but what did we do this month?

• The founders had to juggle a range of tasks between management and public relationships. The latter was more about a streaming presentation rather than cave art (do you know that PR started as cave drawings of Egyptian pharaohs?). Aggre was invited by Joichi Ito, Board Member and Chief Architect of Digital Garage, to be part of a live show about the presentation of Crypto Cafe Clubs. On the other hand, Mayumi and Mariko reviewed various status updates of features regarding the most recent release cycle, and, to make sure the team would be aware of the plans for the next release, they developed an overall plan in line with the strategy adopted last month. (Kindly remind: The strategy will focus on developing even more functionalities for creators to build and monetize a community in Clubs).

• Besides doing business, of course, one of the tasks of the business team is to pursue the social mission of Clubs to empower creators through win-win use cases. By following this endeavor, Kaoru is beginning to discuss a DAO-powered use case for a leading public service company in Japan to support a town with around 50k people to maintain its infrastructure. This project wants to promote a quest in their DAO for the change of local areas in Japan instead of just collecting property tokens. Additionally, the service of Crypto Café, one of the biggest projects of the quarter, will be released soon. A press release and a physical opening party are expected to happen in October. Wait for it!

• The product team, as it was mentioned earlier, worked restlessly to develop the feature demos, which can have multiple internal and external uses. For instance, the pay-by-card plugin demo will allow users who are not so familiar with Web3 to buy Clubs’ memberships with credit cards and hold memberships with their emails. Also, the product team has also been working on a store plugin, previously known as the slot memberships plugin. The first basic implementation of the plugin has been completed and tested. Clubs’ users can create a collection of memberships, which are either limited for a time- or amount-limited. Finally, the post plugin is now fully functional. We will be announcing a release soon, so please look forward to it.

• The governance and operations team led by Mariko was busy organizing core processes and, also, small details for the correct functioning of Clubs. The Privacy Policy (PP) and Terms and Conditions (T&C) were reviewed and updated. The latter task can be considered small, but as the phrase said: “The devil lies in the details”, so the DEV protocol team wants to ensure a clear and safe space to use the platform. In addition, the eKYC process was defined by using a third-party provider and its implementation will likely happen in the next weeks. Mariko has assessed every aspect of the deal to have a bulletproof process once it is developed. The next steps to follow are to create a prototype, MVP-like, on Figma to illustrate the planned governance features, which will run throughout October/November.

PLAY! Clubs Newsletter - August

Hi Clubers! Another month in the books of the time, so August’s newsletter is here to thrill our community about news and updates of PLAY! Clubs, as well as to introduce team members and share fascinating facts. Grab a cup of coffee or [insert here your favorite beverage] and enjoy the reading.

Before starting…

Do you know that the DEV Protocol team holds at least 10+ e-meeting hours per month? Even though almost all of the team works remotely, the meetings are still necessary to plan and monitor the progress of milestones. Most of the meetings are focused on development and business.

As Japanese people are always thinking about tomorrow (seriously Japan is 16 hours ahead of California, Pacific Standard Time), this month has established the strategy to follow for Q4 - 2023 and part of 2024, which will be focused on developing even more functionalities for creators to build and monetize a community in Clubs. The overall plan along with the objectives will be in line with it.

What did we do this month?

• As with every startup core team, the founders were working on every aspect of the company. To start, Mayu updated the Club’s Deck and one-pager to reflect the most recent changes in the product of Clubs along with the website. These communications materials will be the protagonist in a couple of weeks when the collaboration with many companies and projects kicks off. On the other hand, Aggre wore the 10-shirt this month as he designed the UI for limited collections, store, check-out, and the update of many other features. His vision is to deliver not only the most functional product but also the easiest.

• It says that a startup product is envisioned by the founders, constructed by engineers, but molded by clients. The business team led by Kaoru took the latter phrase very seriously as they mapped a list of features and information that enterprises may want to know when they start a DAO. The +10 requirements will be assessed to be implemented in the next sprints for the product team. Also, Kaoru is in talks with major projects, exciting news is coming!

• The product team earned this month the “Octopus” nickname. Not because Stu, Shubham, or Yashdesu have blue blood or more than one brain (probably this one is true), but because they have been multitasking like one. To start, they got an API documentation auto-generating for Clubs Core, which makes life easier. In addition, they implemented Limited Memberships (feature to offer time-sensitive memberships), multiple currency support (integration of different payment providers to support fiat payments when buying memberships), and Posts (social media-like publications feature to share content with reactions, comments, etc.).

• The governance team led by Mariko was busy completing the development of governance features for Clubs. The next task to be completed is a prototype to be tested with some beta users. Also, she defined the process for the eKYC procedures for domestic and international people. The objective of these procedures is to find a balance between anonymity and safety for Clubs’ users. Finally, the first draft of the Sandbox application is ready to be reviewed. The Sandbox is a program that allows for rapid demonstration of innovative technologies and business models offered by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.

Hello Clubers! Another month has rolled around, so our newsletter is here to delight our community with a 5-minute read about news and updates of PLAY! Clubs, as well as introduce team members and share fun facts.

What did we do this month?

• The founder team was bustling managing the overall performance of the team. If you ever think that being a leader is an easy task, most likely, the founder team will have one (or more) words about it. Agree tested the payment UI, created a teaser DAO to prove and introduce new concepts (Incubation DAO he called, sounds exciting right?) and still have time to recommend to the team Hideo Kojima’s podcast “Brain Structures”. On the other hand, Mayu was testing some UX improvements for Clubs to increase user satisfaction and advance usability. She wants creators to start memberships with image options to… (News under developing).

• The business team is a machine for exploring opportunities, as Kaoru is talking with 25 different companies to engage and manage their communities with Clubs and answering tons of inquiries from interested parties about the possibility of setting up DAOs using Clubs. Also, in most cases, they need some business consultations to learn what extension Clubs’ features can radically change the way they are interacting with their audience. But, of course, Kaoru still was conducting the Weekly Study Sessions with +150 views. Here you have the links to relive each session:

  Kaoru will continue the discussion with various partners about the launch of new DAO communities using Clubs, which is a game-changer for the current industry.

• The product team was busy dealing with wrapping up the smart contract coding and smart contract testing for Credit Card (CC) integration, getting a big chunk of code done for the dev kit to use the new smart contracts with the UI. There were some small delays as some refinements to the JPY-to-Matic were necessary. Soon they should be able to test CC payments on Mainnet (and Testnet), and then after that launch. Also, the product team has enough space on their agenda to work on the Posts plugin. The task list is coming along nicely, so they are hoping to roll out this feature soon.

• The governance team was dealing with three fronts: organizing the sandbox application process, kicking off the work of the governance implementation roadmap, and researching KYC standards. The three activities are focused on making Clubs a safer environment for creators and their communities! By the way, do you know that only 11% of crypto-related projects in the US implemented a governance protocol? That is simply too low!

Working in a startup can be a unique experience as the amount of team effort directly translates to the overall output of the business. However, 69% of employees are experiencing burnout symptoms. Hence, to avoid falling into burning ourselves, the team enjoyed the Japanese holiday of Sea Day on 17 July with a break!

Hello Clubers! We are overenthusiastic to announce that, from now on, we will be closer as our community newsletter will be released on the first day of each month. The newsletter intends to inform about news and updates about PLAY! Clubs, as well as introduce team members, share fun facts, and enjoy a 5-minute read together!

Some background first

As this is our first edition, we want to introduce what is THE project that keeps us awake every night and maintain us busy during the day. PLAY! Clubs is a no-code DAO platform powered by the innovative DAO framework of DEV protocol. The solution is characterized by its free and easy-to-use tools to build a community at web3.

PLAY! Clubs is proudly a Japanese solution managed by an international team. We have at least one team member in 3 out of the 5 continents. When we said international, we really meant it. Currently, there are 13 DEV protocolers who are behind the scenes and make the magic happen.

The platform of PLAY! Clubs were developed by DEV Protocol, the leading DAO framework embraced by an open-source community that empowers you to unleash infinite ideas and ignite the web3 economy for everyone. The legal organizations representing DEV Protocol are Frame00 Inc. and DEV Null AG. Both are private companies established in Zug, Switzerland, and Tokyo, Japan, respectively.

So, to the point, what did we do this month?

• The founder team was busy as usual, but they had enough time to share their vision about cutting-edge technologies. Our CTO, Aggre, talked at the “Web3 and next generation distributed Internet technologies” conference organized by SKY Perfect JSAT, one of our investors. The event brought together researchers from large Japanese companies and scholars from universities. On the other hand, Mayu, the CEO, is writing an article for a professional journal about "The Potential of Distributed Autonomous Organizations (DAOs)”. Of course, we will bring more updates about its release.

  Startups evolve fast, probably faster than the team can communicate to its stakeholders. However, Mayu took the time to assemble everything that we did so far and summarized it on the new DEV Protocol website (yes, this is your second opportunity to go to the website).

• The product team, led by Aggre, is on the verge of releasing new features related to credit card payments and eKYC. These updates will make life easier and safer for our creators.

  We have been working hard to add support for Credit Card payments on Clubs, specifically for… (big partnership coming soon!).

  Also, CrossMint was chosen to be used, creating new smart contracts (ERC20SimpleCollections, SwapAndStake, and JPY Simple Collection support), updating our utility library dev kit, improving UI, and having ongoing discussions on how we'll support multiple currencies (like Japanese Yen).

  A productive meeting with Ondato, a KYC provider, was held. We are reviewing their documentation to determine if they will be a good fit for our platform.

  Finally, the product team was focused on two functional improvements. One is related to minting on Niwa, and the other pertains to JSON validation when saving data in the admin area on Clubs.

• The business team, led by Kaoru, has successfully organized five study sessions, with a fantastic turnout of approximately 100 participants. It's incredible to see the growing interest.

  In addition, dedicated support and a new DAO structure will be released in the following months (stay tuned for more news).

• The governance team, led by Mariko, has a deep dive into the global regulatory framework of blockchain technologies. The purpose of the research was to assess the KYC standards of Japanese and Global regulators to understand how laws could evolve in the near future. DEV Protocol and its flagship development, PLAY! Clubs, give priority to the safety of their users as both comply with the laws and regulations.

Key Features of the New Community

We aim to develop PLAY! Clubs into a community with the following characteristics:

Encourage Collaboration: Within the community, we promote collaboration among participants. Engage in conversations with other members and foster new collaborative efforts.

Offer What You Can: Don’t hesitate to bring your own unique assets and perspective to the community. Thanks to the assets you provide, there is a possibility of creating a community and ideas that make a positive impact on society. If you have any unused assets that could be transformed into something amazing within the community, please share them! Assets that you couldn’t make use of in the past could be something that someone in the community needs for innovations.

Give Back When You Can: When possible, if you see a situation where you might be of use, try to give back and help others. There may be times when you feel disinterested in conversations happening within the community or believe they don’t relate to you. However, if you try to make an effort, you might find it rewarding. In society, we use the money to purchase goods and experiences, but within the community, we “pay” by participating and offering our unique skills and perspectives to other members. By openly sharing your knowledge, time, and assets, you become eligible to receive rewards within the community. As you give more time engaging and helping the community, you will be rewarded with reverence from other members.

Announcement of Weekly Sessions🍩

Weekly study sessions will be held for community participants. A wide range of guest speakers, from artists who already have their own communities to a community of traditional cultural artisans, will participate in each session and generously share their experiences.
