Congress and the CR Bill

Congressional leaders introduced a 1,500-page stopgap spending bill (CR) to extend government funding until March 2024, but it quickly failed due to opposition from conservatives and Trump allies, including Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. Critics opposed provisions like pay raises for lawmakers, exemptions from ObamaCare, disaster relief without offsets, and funding for the private Francis Scott Key Bridge, among others. Musk and Trump’s vocal disapproval swayed Republicans, with Musk even threatening to support primary challenges against those backing the bill. The bill’s failure underscores deep divisions within Congress and among conservatives over government spending, policy riders, and the national debt. Another bill hastily crafted after the first one failed was rejected in a bipartisan effort, leaving government funding set to expire at midnight tonight.

The fruits of our recent election are already showing themselves, and the people should rejoice (Proverbs 29:2). For too long, Congress has shamefully continued the practice of deceptively increasing our national debt by touting portions of the latest "continuation resolution" (CR) are for select items they know people know they can't speak out against. While every American wants to see "hurricane relief" for others who are suffering, America herself is headed for a greater storm than Katrina or Helene if it does not get its moral and financial house in order. Reckless and unaccountable spending is a form of immorality, and because we have not yet "sown the whirlwind" while we "sow to the wind" (Hosea 8:7), our citizenry and elected officials have grown increasingly brazen and arrogant in our practices (Ecclesiastes 8:11). But make no mistake, God will not be mocked (Galatians 6:7) and the sowing of financial irresponsibility will eventually lead to shame, ruin and suffering (Proverbs 24:30).

We can be thankful that the leaders of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are not waiting until inauguration day to use their immense platforms on X to share the truth with America concerning the latest effort by current Congressional leadership to continue to push our country to the abyss. While Mike Johnson is, by all accounts, articulates, and in many ways models, a life of wisdom, his willingness to put forward the CR that continues irresponsible and egregious spending is a sign of great weakness that needs to be exposed and admonished (1 Thessalonians 5:14). Weak leaders who are unwilling to stand up against public criticism are a plague to a people (Ezekiel 34:1-8) and strong leaders who speak truth are like a kiss on the lips (Proverbs 24:26).

While the most recent proposal continues to extend the irresponsible practices of the last CR, it at least does not add new indulgences to the 1.834 Trillion deficit, the third largest in our nation's history, which we welcomed this last fiscal year. When wrong is discovered, wrong must be immediately stopped (Isaiah 1:16). Today is the day to begin dealing with yesterday's error (Psalm 95:7-8) nationally and in our own lives. May the remnant lead the way in speaking truth and modeling repentance and faithfulness in all things (Philippians 4:9).

Incoming Trump Admin Sends Mixed Signals on Abortion

President-elect Donald Trump's stance on abortion pills remains unclear. While he recently stated it's "highly unlikely" he would restrict mifepristone access, his pick for Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has pledged to reinstate in-person dispensing requirements if directed. "He will absolutely do whatever President Trump wants," Sen. Josh Hawley said after meeting with Kennedy.

Ambiguity and moderation seem to define Trump's most recent stance on abortion, yet that couldn't be further from what we see in Scripture (Exodus 20:13). While it may be politically expedient for Trump to take a middle-ground approach, it is neither a moral nor a Christian stance. We can acknowledge the complexity of modern political processes, but when it comes to policies protecting innocent lives, compromise cannot be an option (Psalm 139:13-16).

The remnant must remember that our allegiance is first to Christ, before any political party or politician (Exodus 20:3). If you would criticize a Democrat for this very position during an election season, we should be prepared, "in and out of season," to speak truth in love just as freely to those with whom we may be closer aligned (2 Timothy 4:2, Ephesians 4:15). Frankly, it is entirely appropriate for believers to be disheartened by Donald Trump's distancing from pro-life rhetoric, especially given that the pill he refuses to limit results in two-thirds of all abortions in America.

Rather than RFK do "whatever Trump wants," we should pray to the Lord that He change the hearts of our elected and appointed leaders to do whatever Jesus Christ wants (John 14:15). God is gracious in revealing what He desires from us—just look at His Word (Psalm 119:105). Our commitment must be to the unyielding truth of Scripture, not political expediency or allegiance to political allies (Romans 13:1). Only then can we stand boldly for the innocent lives at risk and fulfill our call to protect them (Proverbs 24:11-12).

AI Pastors and Prayer

Ron Carpenter, senior pastor of Redemption World Outreach Center in Greenville, South Carolina, has created an app that will allow people to have their own personal pastor. For a price of $49 per month, someone may “transcend traditional time and access barriers by enabling 1-on-1 personalized interactions not possible for now.” The app has various capabilities, such as praying for the user or referencing past conversations. Carpenter concluded the informational video by sharing that additional details would be forthcoming.

John Bunyan once said, “In prayer, it is better to have hearts without words than to have words without heart.” Even the tax collector who beat his breast in conviction walked away with a living, beating heart in justification (Luke 18:9–14). The Scriptures teach that we are to pray by the Spirit (Romans 8:26) through the Son (John 15:16) and to the Father (Psalm 5:2). If the software is leading the user in prayer, then there is a pig being sacrificed in the temple (Daniel 11:31), and "unauthorized fire" being lit (Leviticus 10:1).

Access to wisdom rooted in a database informed by a faithful pastor can be a good thing. Lack of access to a pastor is a bad thing. Access to having a program pray for you instead of a pastor is a terrible thing. The days ahead are going to be filled with fights over Truth, and there is little doubt the enemy wants us to look to unreliable sources for Truth. Too many people believe googling something is a reliable way to determine what to believe without checking the sources that Google provides. But long before Google demanded our skepticism, God’s Word reminded us to be skeptical of what we heard from pulpits, always taking care to cross-check what we heard from men with what we read that is from God (Acts 17:11). Sound advice to be sure. If pulpits are to be cross-checked, you can be sure the AI should be, and if the only way you can get your Pastor to pray for you is to have their AI parrots do it… it is time to fly the coup (1 Peter 5:2).

Madison, WI School Shooting

Tragedy struck a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, when a 15-year-old student opened fire in a classroom, killing two and injuring several others. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to identify a clear motive. As the community grieves calls for stricter gun control measures and expanded mental health support for youth have grown louder. Vigils have been held to honor the victims, highlighting the urgent need to address violence in schools and support affected families during this time of profound loss.

Moments like these understandably leave people desperate for answers and solutions. What could we have done to prevent this? What can we do to make sure this can never happen again? 

While it does not always satisfy our human desire for clarity and closure, truth can always be found in the Scriptures. The heart, even the heart of a 15-year-old girl, is desperately sick (Jeremiah 17:9). The way that seems right to man, when untouched and transformed by the Holy Spirit, is the way of death (Proverbs 14:12). A mind set on the flesh is a mind of lifelessness (Romans 8:6-7). The enemy is a deceiver bent on the destruction of even the most vulnerable among us (John 10:10). None of us are immune to the curse of sin; it lays hold of us all, eager to ensnare us in a life of as much pain as possible (Romans 3:23, James 1:14-15). In light of news like this, we cannot turn to law or logic to understand and guarantee a better path forward. We can only look to the Lord (Romans 8:3-4). His presence in our homes (Deuteronomy 6:6-7) (it has been reported the shooter comes from a divorced home/multiple marriages), hearts, minds, and relationships are the only way these tragedies will cease to happen. While there certainly needs to be wisdom, discernment, and guidelines employed around gun ownership and use, guidelines alone cannot prevent a heart bent towards evil from following through with its evil intentions.

Every day we leave our homes, and even the days we don’t, our safety and breath are ensured and insured by the Father himself (Psalm 139:16, Matthew 10:29-31). Not a day of our life passes through his hands unknowingly. While the world rightly searches for solutions, may we be the solution, boldly sharing the healing love of Jesus with the hurting -and wicked- (Matthew 5:14-16), and live securely knowing that one day with Him is better than a thousand anywhere else (Psalm 84:10).

Israel and the Druze

A viral video featuring Syrian Druze leaders requesting annexation by Israel has sparked discussions about their safety amid threats from extremist groups. IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Herzi Halevi assured security for both Israeli and Syrian Druze communities near the border, emphasizing Israel's commitment to safeguarding its citizens while avoiding interference in Syria's internal affairs. Historically aligned with Assad, Syrian Druze communities face new vulnerabilities after his fall. Israeli officials have engaged with Druze leaders to ensure stability and cooperation with IDF security measures.

The constant attention given to the nation of Israel is illustrative of the irresistible Truth that the Lord has embedded in both history and His Word. When Frederick the Great of Russia, a famous agnostic, demanded that someone give him a reason to believe in the existence of God, it is reported that his Swiss physician Johan Zimmerman responded with two words, “the Jews.” This response was given some two hundred years before the “nation” was regathered in the land we know today as the nation Israel. Zimmerman’s observation that the survival of the Jewish people is a testimony to God’s sovereign choice is increasingly being made obvious before the eyes of the watching world, which continues to watch Israel survive despite endless threats and hostilities from surrounding nations. 

What many people do not know, primarily because of all the propaganda that consistently represents Israel as an imperialistic nation that hates its neighbors, is that the ethnic and religious Jewishness of the nation is in steady decline. Most people are shocked to hear that today Arabs, non-Jewish, and non-Arabs constitute over twenty percent (~2 million) of the population and happily live in the land and serve in the Knesset and the IDF. Approximately 150,00 of these people (2% of the population) are the Druze people, who traditionally have lived in the Golan Heights region often contested by Lebanon, Syria, and Israel. It is unsurprising that more of these ethnic Arabs are voicing their desire to see Israel annex the land they live in, which for decades has been on the southern Syrian border with Israel, given the stability and graciousness with which the Israeli people have extended to their relatives. The Druze have observed the comparable goodness of the Israeli community over the oppression of the Assad government and the factions that have recently overthrown it. The more closely nations align themselves with the wisdom of God’s way; the more delighted others are to join them (Proverbs 29:2). It is the mark of a faithful people that human flourishing increases under their leadership. Jesus has told us the mark of those who love the Son is our love for one another and our kind treatment of foreigners (note: the overwhelming majority of Israeli citizens (less than 2%) do NOT profess to follow Jesus, and most who do are Arab Christians).

As we have written before, a biblical nation has borders to its land, but it also has no boundary to its love (John 13:34-35). The remnant should speak out against the lies consistently told about the nation of Israel and should live in such a way that others around us want to join us in our living for the Truth (1 Peter 3:15-16).

It’s Time to Talk about Porn

Scholars emphasize the need for frank discussions about pornography as more adolescents are exposed to explicit content. Research shows that many young people encounter online pornography as early as age 12, with over half witnessing violent acts. Experts advocate for "porn literacy" to help adolescents understand the unrealistic and often harmful nature of what they see. While some argue that exposure can influence sexual behaviors, the goal is not to endorse porn but to provide a realistic view. Researchers urge parents and educators to talk openly about the subject, despite the discomfort, to guide healthier perceptions and relationships.

While some advocate for "porn literacy" to help young people understand its harmful effects, we must first recognize that true healing does not come from simply understanding the nature of sin but from turning away from it and seeking the restoration only found in Christ (Acts 3:19).

The Bible calls us to "flee from sexual immorality" (1 Corinthians 6:18), not to entertain or tolerate it (Colossians 3:5). Pornography distorts God's beautiful design for human intimacy, replacing love with exploitation and connection with objectification (Hebrews 13:4). As we guide those around us, especially young people, remind them of what Scripture teaches, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it" (Proverbs 4:23).

Our culture is in desperate need of restoration in this area, and the remnant must go first. Men and women seeking help and healing should not go it alone own. It's vital to bring alongside trusted friends, church leaders, and a supportive community who can walk alongside, offering prayer, accountability, and encouragement (Proverbs 27:17). God has designed His people to support one another, and through His strength, we can guide one another toward purity, healing, and freedom from the destructive hold of sin (Hebrews 10:24-25).

Is Recycling Real?

Many Americans believe recycling will save the Earth, but the reality is more complicated. While materials like glass, aluminum, and cardboard can be efficiently recycled and reused, plastic poses a major challenge. Greenpeace reports that plastic degrades in quality each time it is recycled, making it essentially non-recyclable for long-term use. This stark reality has prompted criticism from environmental activists, highlighting the need for systemic changes to address the plastic waste crisis and reduce reliance on disposable materials.

Caring for the planet is a noble and essential responsibility, especially for Christians. Scripture makes it clear that humanity is entrusted with stewardship over God's creation, including all living creatures (Genesis 1:28, Psalm 8:6-8). This responsibility involves wise and sustainable care, as seen in God's instructions for agricultural practices that allow the land to rest (Exodus 23:10-11).

However, while caring for the Earth is vital, it should not overshadow the worship of God or sharing the gospel. The Earth is a temporary home, destined to be renewed when God creates a new heaven and new earth (2 Peter 3:10, Revelation 21:1). Our ultimate priority remains spreading God's love and helping those in need.

Trump is Time’s Person of the Year

TIME selected Donald Trump as its 2024 Person of the Year for his unprecedented political resurgence and transformative influence on American and global politics. Trump's victory marked a dramatic shift in voter demographics, including notable gains among minority groups and suburban women, and his leadership amplified the ongoing populist wave and erosion of trust in institutions. By redefining the presidency and navigating political realignment, Trump not only shaped the U.S. but also altered America's global role, making his influence central to understanding this era of profound change.

The 2024 winner has been announced, and there is a high degree of likelihood that no one receiving this newsletter had any hope of ever being considered a serious candidate for Time's POY honors in the first place. However, this lack of hope or aspirational indifference should not characterize us when it comes to being acknowledged by a much greater "group" (Genesis 1:26) in a much more lasting way (John 6:27). So take heart, dear reader, there are greater rewards still to come (Matthew 16:27) which men will not forget (can you name the last 10 POY winners?), eaten by moths, destroyed by rust or stolen by thieves (Matthew 6:20). You can aspire to be remembered and honored by men, or you can purpose to be rewarded by an eternal King Who "is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints" (Hebrews 6:10). So while you cannot control how this world honors you, you do have the glorious ability to live in such a way that your King will be pleased to entrust you with more (Matthew 25:14-16). "Thus says the Lord: 'refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the Lord." (Jeremiah 31:16). So take time to pray today for this year's winner (1 Timothy 2:1-12) but also make sure to 'pray without ceasing' (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and abide always (John 15:4) with the One who wants you to bear much fruit (John 15:5) knowing there will be a day when all of us will "appear before the judgment seat of Christ so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad" (2 Corinthians 5:10).

Jesus on a Keffiyeh

Pope Francis participated in the inauguration of a nativity scene created by Palestinian artists from Bethlehem, which features a baby Jesus resting on a keffiyeh—a scarf symbolizing Palestinian heritage. This keffiyeh-draped cradle is part of a series titled “Nativity of Bethlehem 2024” and will be displayed in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall. The artwork, as reported by Vatican News, highlights cultural expressions tied to the birthplace of Jesus while offering a unique perspective on the nativity tradition. It has since been removed from display.

Pope Francis has led the Roman Catholic church down the path of global ecumenism, even as Scripture condemns this.

Ecumenism can be defined in two ways: the organized attempt to effect cooperation and unity among Christians or a movement that promotes worldwide unity among all religions. The former is good; the latter is not. While substituting a keffiyeh for straw in a crèche may not be the worst thing the Vatican can do to bring confusion to the truth of the gospel story, too often Pope Francis’s actions have too often fit into the second category.

Why is the global ecumenism movement “bad”?  2 Corinthians 6:14-18 makes it clear that we are not to be yoked together with unbelievers. Light and darkness, righteousness and lawlessness – these have no fellowship with each other. One can be with Christ or against Him (Matthew 12:30). There can be no ambivalence or neutrality in a believer’s relationship with Jesus.

Christ’s demands are so exclusive that the ecumenism of the Roman Catholic church, as demonstrated by Pope Francis, places it on the side of those who deny the deity of Jesus. This is terrible news for Roman Catholics and for those who look to Rome for an understanding of God’s message of grace.

Our mission is to proclaim the gospel, not to lower it to the level of pagan religions. God alone is worthy of praise and worship (Psalm 96:4-5, Isaiah 42:8), and we can put no other “gods” with Him (Exodus 20:3-5).

Drones Spotted in Sky

Mysterious drone sightings across New Jersey have sparked security concerns and frustration among residents and officials. Large drones, some six feet wide, have been observed nightly since November, often evading detection by turning off their lights. Despite thousands of reports, the Biden administration has dismissed the sightings, attributing them to mistaken identities, such as helicopters or planes. However, law enforcement and the U.S. Army’s Picatinny Arsenal have consistently reported unusual activity near sensitive locations, deepening concerns and fueling calls for further investigation.

Bipartisan congressional leaders have demanded explanations, with Rep. Jeff Van Drew speculating about foreign involvement, citing Iranian drone mothership claims, which the Pentagon denied. Civilian experts suggest advanced technology may be at play, fueling skepticism of the government’s dismissive stance.

What else is out there, what is the truth, and who is in control? These are questions all of mankind is born to ask, and a culture detached from its Creator will increasingly live in fear as they search for answers. Scripture commands us not to fear man or circumstances but to live in awe and reverence of the Lord (Matthew 10:28). This posture aligns our hearts with His sovereignty and reminds us that all mysteries ultimately bow before His throne (Deuteronomy 29:29).

Just as the fear of man distorts our understanding of truth, so too does innovation, when severed from a biblical worldview, become a tool for sin rather than stewardship (Romans 1:21-23).

When we steward the technology we have and the truths we uncover with faithfulness, it blesses others and glorifies Him (1 Corinthians 10:31). While yet another thing causes others in the world to worry and wonder at what could be, seek peace and pursue it, allow the truths we can count on to guide, encourage, and steady you (Isaiah 26:3).

Suspect Charged for United Murder

Luigi Mangione, charged with murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, appeared in a Pennsylvania court and was denied bail as he opposes extradition to New York City. Arrested after being identified at a McDonald's in Altoona, Mangione was found with a firearm linked to the crime and writings expressing anger at corporate America. Evidence includes surveillance footage and items such as a ghost gun and fraudulent IDs. Mangione, a former valedictorian and University of Pennsylvania graduate, allegedly acted out of disdain for corporate greed and health insurance companies.

Wise men seek solitude (Mark 1:35) while fools isolate (Proverbs 18:1), and it appears Magione was a fool in more ways than one (Proverbs 14:16). If nothing else is made clear by the sadness of the events surrounding the murder of Brian Thompson, it is that Ivy League education is not the path to wisdom, (Ecclesiastes 12:12) the fear of the Lord is (Ecclesiastes 12:11, Proverbs 1:7). As one said on social media, “The fact that Luigi Mangione graduated at the top of his Ivy League class but still had the murder weapon on him 5 days after the shooting says more about the state of the US education system than it does about healthcare.”  While it may be humorous to make this comment, it says a lot about the moral confusion of the American public that Mangione’s actions were not universally condemned on social platforms, with many commenting more on his “attractive appearance” than on the abhorrent crime he committed. A nation that is flippant about lawlessness is a nation that won’t long exist to make laws (Proverbs 14:34). It is the job of one generation to raise the next (Deuteronomy 6:6-9), and it is increasingly apparent that the adults of yesterday have failed the future leaders of tomorrow (Galatians 6:7). America will continue to see more shocking videos of crimes committed in “broad daylight” as the surveillance state grows and fewer and fewer Americans surveil the Scriptures (Psalm 119:11).

The remnant should not grow discouraged as lawlessness increases but should take advantage of the increasing darkness to make the light of Truth and their own righteous living serve as a means of grace, evangelism, and discipleship to a lost generation that desperately needs it. Who will see your light shine bright today (Philippians 2:15) so that they can come home to the grace of the gospel and goodness of God’s way (Matthew 11:28-30)?

IDF Strikes in Syria

Following the collapse of the Assad regime, the IDF launched an extensive bombing campaign in Syria, executing over 480 airstrikes to neutralize military capabilities. These strikes targeted strategic assets, including air bases, chemical weapons facilities, and naval installations, aiming to prevent these resources from falling into hostile hands. The operation also involved taking control of the demilitarized zone in the Golan Heights and destroying much of the Syrian fleet. The IDF's actions were portrayed as preventive measures to secure Israel's borders and halt weapon transfers to groups like Hezbollah amidst Syria's power vacuum.

The apostle Paul declares, "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God" (Romans 3:10b). This profound truth underscores the universal depravity of humanity. The trajectory of this world continues to spiral downward, driven by the influence of the "prince of the power of the air" (Ephesians 2:1–3). As Paul warns Timothy, evil people will go from bad to worse (2 Timothy 3:13). Death entered the world through sin, and with it came war and conflict, a direct consequence of humanity’s rebellion against God (Romans 5:12). However, these realities are not meant to discourage us but to encourage us as we recognize the signs of the times. They serve as reminders that the fulfillment of God’s promises is drawing near. As Paul urged Timothy to hold fast to the sacred writings, let us anchor ourselves in Scripture, drawing strength and guidance from its timeless truths. It will indeed be a magnificent display of God’s mercy when He eradicates sin from the world and ushers His people into His presence forever (Romans 8:21).

Furthermore, we should take to heart the lessons from Israel’s history regarding the necessity of eliminating the dominion of sin in our lives. Paul exhorts believers to "put to death therefore what is earthly in you" (Colossians 3:5). This requires vigilance, as allowing even a potential foothold for sin can lead to a gradual and destructive decline (James 1:14–15). It is a slow fade until we give ourselves away.

May these reflections inspire us to remain steadfast in our faith, leaning on God’s grace as we await the day when He will make all things new. Let us persevere in righteousness and not grow weary, knowing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Unrest in Syria

The Situation:

A radical Islamist rebel group, HTS, exploited a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel to capture key Syrian cities through swift, surprise offensives. On Sunday, Syrian President Assad fled Damascus to seek asylum in Russia as rebels seized the capital within hours. Iran and Hezbollah withdrew their forces, leaving Syria under the control of HTS leader al-Jawlani (Ahmed Al-Sharaa). However, his position is precarious, with rival factions like ISIS preparing to challenge his rule. Meanwhile, Kurds have captured eastern cities, and Turkish-backed rebels are advancing south.

The Response:

World powers are weighing in on the demise of the Syrian government. Russia and Iran, who backed the Assad government with money and military assets, find themselves on the outside looking in as Turkey, Jordan, Israel, and the United States maneuver for position, each with its own motives. President-elect Trump has vowed to keep the United States out of the conflict, while Israel has moved its military into the contested buffer zone in the Golan Heights. Turkey is backing a different rebel group, and Jordan is taking a guarded wait-and-see approach.

This volatile and deadly situation could shift rapidly, with Damascus potentially falling to another jihadi rebel group, only to be overtaken again. Syrian civilians, spanning diverse ethnicities and faiths, are poised to endure immense suffering in the months ahead. They need our prayers for safety and for the light of Jesus Christ to break through in this war-torn nation.

It’s difficult for even the most versed intelligence experts to pinpoint what is happening or even name all the players. Russia, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, and even the United States will have roles to play, but while we pray for safety for the Syrian people, we must take comfort that God is not surprised by any of this, and it all fits into His world of order and not confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). The Almighty will do what He needs to do in order to accomplish His plan. Each of these powers is protecting its own interests. Our interest, as Christians, is to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) and pray for and support our Christian brothers and sisters and those who are suffering in any way we can.

Satan is our true enemy; Syrian jihadis, Chinese tyrants, or Russian oligarchs are not our adversaries but simply puppets in the hands of the god of this age (2 Corinthians 4:4). This same adversary would destroy us all if given a chance. Stand against him by trusting in the Lord to do battle for us and for the oppressed in the Mideast (2 Timothy 4:17-18).

If this situation causes distress, remember Paul’s encouragement to Timothy, “the Lord will give you understanding in everything” (2 Timothy 2:7, Psalm 119:34, 169).

It is incumbent on us as followers of Christ to do what He would do: pray for peace in the region and pray for those who will be suffering; most of all, pray that His name will be proclaimed throughout the land.

Jay-Z Accused with Sean Combs

Jay-Z has been accused, alongside Sean "Diddy" Combs, of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in 2000, as detailed in an amended lawsuit by Jane Doe. The accusations include drugging and assaulting the victim at an after-party following the MTV Video Music Awards, with another unnamed celebrity allegedly present. Jay-Z denied the claims, labeling the lawsuit a "blackmail attempt," while Combs faces broader legal issues, including charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. Both musicians have faced escalating scrutiny amid these allegations.

Whether or not the accusations are true remains to be seen, but we don’t doubt Hollywood and the entertainment industry is plagued with even darker, more devastating secrets that won’t ever see the light of a headline. The entertainment industry (unfortunately not unlike others) is under the influence of the enemy and his strategies (1 John 5:19). And those who are not in a relationship with Jesus, though gifted with talent, “success,” and influence through common grace, are equally under the yoke of the evil one (Ephesians 2:2). Hollywood however, unique to other industries, impacts our world, and particularly our culture directly. Stars, singers, actors, and the like often gain trust, favor, and even worship simply because of their talent and platform. Sean Combs has long been known for his provocative lifestyle and only recently faced the possibility of being prosecuted for the parts of it that were illegal. The proverb is true that “bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33), and while we cannot speak to the truth of this particular accusation, where drugs, alcohol, and pervasive promiscuity exist (in excess) (as many of Jay Z’s lyrics suggest) evil and death lie closely by (Proverbs 14:12, James 1:15).

May we be prudent to avoid that which Scripture so clearly tells us leads to death (Galatians 5:24), and may we with greater clarity scrutinize the music, “influencers,” entertainment, and media we consume so that our worship and trust belong solely to the One worthy of it (Revelation 4:11, Matthew 4:10).

United Healthcare Murder

Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was fatally shot outside a Manhattan hotel in a targeted attack, with surveillance suggesting the suspect waited for him before firing multiple shots. The gunman fled on an electric bike, and evidence, including shell casings, video footage, and a recovered cellphone, is being analyzed. Police described the attack as premeditated but have not determined a motive, though Thompson's wife mentioned previous threats. Thompson, a father and healthcare executive, faced backlash earlier this year over alleged improper coverage denials by UnitedHealthcare. The investigation is ongoing as more information comes to light.

It should go without saying that whatever the reason for this murder, it is a tragedy, which is only increased by the fact that Mr. Thompson leaves behind a wife and two sons. Murder and fatherlessness were not in the Lord’s original plans for His creation (Genesis 1:31). Whatever the reason for the hit on the United Health executive, wisdom would not have us speculate too loudly about what the victim may have done to provoke it (Proverbs 18:13). While we do know that the assassin went to some trouble to leave clues on the ammunition (depose and defend were found on two of the casings), we will not know the true motive of the crime unless the killer is captured, or other information is revealed.

 We do know that one of the many horrible consequences of the mishandling of the Covid pandemic is the normalization of people wearing masks and covering their faces in ways that previously would have been seen as suspicious or even dangerous (Proverbs 22:3). The fact that we continue to allow anti-social behaviors to go unchallenged will continue to bring trouble to our land (Galatians 6:7). Meanwhile, all wise men should be reminded that tragedy does not just befall the wicked (Luke 13:1-3) and that while God does offer forgiveness to our repentance, he does not promise tomorrow to our procrastination (Exodus 34:6-7) and the day of judgment is closer to all of us than we often consider (Hebrews 9:27).

SCOTUS Hears Transgender Case

The Supreme Court is hearing United States v. Skrmetti, a case where the federal government is challenging Tennessee's law banning gender-transition procedures—such as surgeries, hormone treatments, and puberty blockers—for minors. Tennessee's law was upheld by the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. However, the Biden administration argues the law violates the 14th Amendment by discriminating based on sex, as certain hormonal treatments are permitted for specific medical conditions in one sex but not the other. The government contends minors should have access to these treatments for gender transition purposes.

Mutilation of children, both physical and chemical, is evil, yet our own government is trying to stop one state from protecting children from that evil. How do we honor God in this scenario?

Christians are commanded to submit to the government which God instituted (Romans 13:1-2), not only to avoid the wrath of that government but for conscience’s sake. If we revere God, in all good conscience, we will revere the authority that He has granted to human governors (1 Peter 2:13-14). Even when those rulers are unjust, we are to suffer the injustice in order to glorify God (1 Peter 2:17). Bear in mind that Paul and Peter wrote these letters during the reign of the emperor Nero, who was brutally persecuting Christians daily.

Yet, while Christians default to obeying the government, Scripture makes clear that we are allowed to act in civil disobedience to the authorities if they command evil. The Hebrew midwives (Exodus 1:17), Rahab (Joshua 2), Obadiah (1 Kings 18:4), and many others resisted the rulers and instead did what was right. 

Resisting the ruling authorities if their decrees contradict God’s commandments is not only allowed but is expected and demanded of the faithful. There is an ultimate law to which we must adhere and that law is above the laws of men (Acts 5:29), and speaking out and standing firm to protect defenseless children is our duty (Proverbs 31:8-9).

French Government Collapses

France's government collapsed after Prime Minister Michel Barnier was ousted in a no-confidence vote, with 331 out of 577 lawmakers voting against him. Appointed by President Macron after a deadlock in July's election, Barnier's term was marked by opposition from both left- and right-wing coalitions over tax hikes and spending cuts. His exit was the first in France since 1962. Macron, unable to call another election until summer, must now negotiate for a new prime minister. The instability raises concerns about France's $3 trillion debt and its potential impact on the EU. Despite low approval, Macron remains president until 2027, with his failed electoral gamble contributing to the crisis.

Political leaders, no matter how secure they may seem, are ultimately subject to God's will (Daniel 2:21). This development should serve as a stark reminder that no matter how powerful or influential the leader, their ultimate authority is under God's direction (Proverbs 16:9)

Unlike governments on this side of heaven, we, human beings, are created for eternity (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Likewise, We are created with a desire for things that last: houses that can withstand all elements, marriages that continually flourish, and a Kingdom that will never collapse with a King that will always prove to be powerful (Matthew 6:19-20).

As CS Lewis noted, "Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists." Thankfully, God has provided a perfect solution to every desire that the world could ever give us – Himself. As the Psalmist once wrote, "For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things" (Psalm 107:9).

Christians, whether they be in France or not, should pray for our government officials to lead with wisdom and to maintain peace when it is possible among them (1 Timothy 2:1-2, Romans 12:18). When times are rocky, lean on the Cornerstone (1 Peter 2:6-7). He will never fail you (Psalm 145:13).

Merry Christmas from the White House

Jill Biden introduced the 2024 White House Christmas theme, celebrating resilience, community, and unity. The theme draws inspiration from a Fraser fir named "Tremendous," which withstood Hurricane Helene, symbolizing hope and perseverance through challenges. Sourced from a North Carolina farm affected by severe storms, the tree reflects the strength of overcoming adversity. In their holiday message, the First Lady and President highlighted values of fellowship, faith, community, unity, and peace, emphasizing the importance of togetherness and light during the holiday season.

It isn’t just Charlie Brown who needs to be reminded of what “Christmas is really all about.”  First Lady Jill Biden, as “director” of the annual White House show of Christmas pageantry, appears to need a modern-day Linus to remind her what peace and light are “really all about.” 

It has always been the delusion of arrogant men to embrace the possibility that beauty, goodness, peace, and light could originate without the existence of a beautiful and good Creator (Romans 1:25).

Peace and light are not simple props that exist in a ‘holiday season’; they are supernatural manifestations of a good God’s work that exist because of His grace and goodwill (Luke 2:14). Fallen humanity does not create days worth celebrating; rather it ruins holiday gatherings, creates conflicts (James 4:1-2), and “substitutes darkness for light and bitterness for sweet” (Isaiah 5:20). 

Broken worlds are filled with darkness, and wicked hearts know no peace (Isaiah 48:22). To welcome a season of peace and light without acknowledging their source is an act of foolishness committed by those “who suppress the Truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18) and refuse to acknowledge, honor, or give thanks to God (Romans 1:19-22). It is God alone who introduces a season of peace and light. He will be the One who “makes wars to cease” (Psalms 46:9), He alone is the One who will “teach nations His ways” (Isaiah 2:3), and He alone will accomplish it with such finality that men “will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks, nation will not lift up sword against nation, and never again will they learn war” (Isaiah 2:4). Until that day comes, may the remnant be as faithful as Linus to take our prophetic place on the stage of our day, reminding others that Jesus is not only the “reason for the season,” He is the “Prince of peace” (Isaiah 9:7) and the “light of the world” (John 8:12).

UK Legalizes Assisted Suicide

In a landmark decision, the British Parliament voted 330-275 to legalize assisted suicide for terminally ill adults in England and Wales. The bill permits assisted dying for those diagnosed with terminal conditions and given six months or less to live, with approval from two doctors and a judge. Supporters argue it offers "dignity in death" and alleviates suffering. Critics, however, express concern about potential coercion, with Labour MP Rachel Maskell noting that "patients often say, 'I don't want to be a burden.'" The legislation now moves to committees for further scrutiny. If enacted, this bill would mark a profound societal shift, similar to Britain's earlier milestones in legalizing abortion and abolishing the death penalty.

If our secular world is confused about the value of life at its very beginning, it should not surprise us that our unbelieving neighbors are confused about dignity near its end (Ephesians 4:17-18). When we undermine the sanctity of life, whether through abortion or assisted suicide, we devalue life at all stages in between, fostering a culture where lives are disposable and dependent on perceived utility.

It is not compassionate to encourage another to commit sin; therefore, it is not compassionate to encourage another to commit suicide (Romans 13:10, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Healthcare's purpose is to heal, not to harm. Assisting in someone's suicide violates the first principle of the Hippocratic Oath: "Do no harm." Only politicians could manage the verbal gymnastics required to call deliberately ending a life "an act of care"—like calling arson fire prevention.

This doesn't mean we withhold compassion from those enduring terminal illnesses (Psalm 34:18). On the contrary, they deserve far more than mere sympathy—they deserve healthcare that alleviates suffering without dehumanizing them. 

If God is who He says He is, then you are who He says you are: made in His image, graced with dignity, and crafted for a divine purpose (Genesis 1:26-27). Your worth isn't tied to your productivity, your health, or your self-perception. It is anchored in God's love and His design for you to reflect Him in and to the world (Psalm 139:13-14).

Biden Pardons Son

President Joe Biden issued a sweeping pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, on Sunday, sparking widespread controversy. Hunter, convicted of tax evasion and gun-related charges, was facing sentencing later this month. The move shocked many, as the President had repeatedly vowed not to intervene in his son's legal issues. Critics accuse Biden of abusing his executive powers and undermining judicial integrity, while supporters cite familial compassion. The pardon's timing and implications have raised concerns about fairness and potential political fallout as the President prepares to leave office.

When we see this kind of miscarriage of justice benefiting the privileged class, our response is the same as those of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 12:1), Job (Job 21:7), and the psalmist (Psalm 73:3, 13), who each asked, “why do the wicked prosper?”  It’s natural to think that this is unfair, and we wonder why God allows this. After all, why do good things not happen for us?

This leads to a broader question, “why do bad things happen to good people?”

But a better question would be, “Why do good things happen to bad people?” None of us are good (Psalm 14:3, Romans 3:9-12), and everything we have that is good comes through God’s grace. We should be thankful for that and not begrudge the way the Lord treats other sinners. 

His will is that none should perish (2 Peter 3:9), and He provides time for the wicked to repent (Ephesians 2:4-6). He will accord justice to the unrepentant in His own time (Romans 12:19).

When we resent seeing the wicked prosper, we should see ourselves in their shoes, and think, “there but for the grace of God go I.”

Matt Gaetz Resigns

Rep. Matt Gaetz announced his withdrawal from consideration for Attorney General under President-elect Donald Trump, citing the nomination's potential to become a distraction. His decision came after meetings with GOP senators revealed widespread doubts about his ability to secure confirmation, largely due to past allegations and his controversial political history. Trump's acknowledgment of Gaetz's withdrawal praised his decision and highlighted his respect for Gaetz's future contributions. 

While it is true that appointing government leaders is not the same as naming spiritual leaders for the church, it is also true that appointing men of character and good reputation is consistent with wisdom, as foolish and immature leaders invariably create suffering and oppression for their people (Isaiah 3:4-5).

Who we surround ourselves with determines a lot about our future. God's Word continually reminds us that "the companion of fools will suffer harm" (Proverbs 13:20) and "bad company corrupts good morals" (1 Corinthians 15:33). The remnant would be wise to be in consistent prayer for President-elect Trump as he builds his administration and we can be thankful for the wisdom of our forefathers in giving the upper chamber confirmation powers for executive positions to assist the President in making wise choices (Proverbs 11:14).

Rep. Gaetz's decision to withdraw his name from consideration for Attorney General in the Trump administration appears wise given the many questions surrounding his past choices, concerns about unreleased House ethics committee findings, and resistance from members of his own political party. If, as reported, Gaetz made the decision on his own to remove himself for consideration after he met with members of the Senate, he is to be commended for removing the distraction his nomination created for the new administration (Proverbs 17:14).

All of us should be reminded that while God forgives the humble and repentant, what we do today has great implications for how we are useful to God and others tomorrow (2 Timothy 2:20-22).

Abortion Leader Given Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the U.S., to Cecile Richards, former Planned Parenthood president and prominent abortion advocate, during a private ceremony earlier this week. Praising Richards for championing "civil rights, reproductive equality, and voter mobilization," Biden described her as a leader of "utmost character." Richards led Planned Parenthood for 12 years, advancing abortion and aligning the Democratic Party with that as a "fundamental right." After stepping down in 2018, she co-founded Supermajority, a progressive organization for gender equity, and serves as co-chair of American Bridge 21st Century PAC.

Awards on earth do not equate to rewards in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21). We live in a world that often rewards worldliness and reviles against God's standards. While Cecile Richards is celebrated for her advocacy, we must remember that human accolades cannot redefine righteousness in God's eyes (Isaiah 5:20). The work of promoting abortion as a "fundamental right" contradicts the biblical truth that all life is sacred, created by God, and known before birth (Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5).

True freedom is found not in asserting human autonomy but in living according to God's will (John 8:32). As Christians, we are called to be in the world but not of it, discerning what pleases God rather than conforming to worldly values (Romans 12:2). Brothers and sisters, continue building one another up and spurring one another on toward deeds worthy of our devotion (1 Thessalonians 5:11, Hebrews 10:24).

Laken Riley Murderer Receives Life Without Parole

Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan immigrant, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, a crime that fueled the immigration debate. The court found him guilty of all ten counts, including malice murder and attempted sexual assault, based on DNA and video evidence. Riley’s family expressed deep grief and called for the harshest penalty, while prosecutors emphasized the brutality of the crime and Ibarra’s predatory behavior. Federal authorities revealed Ibarra had entered the U.S. illegally in 2022. Athens-Clarke District Attorney Deborah Gonzalez drew criticism for refusing to seek the death penalty, known for her progressive policies, recused herself from the case but upheld her office's stance against pursuing capital punishment, favoring life without parole instead.

As we have written before about this case, we should not need to overcomplicate the condemnation of murder (Exodus 20:13). Murder is a grievous sin against humanity and an affront to God himself. Our government exists to execute justice, at times “bearing the sword” against the wicked (Romans 13:4). 

In Laken Riley’s case, there was indisputable evidence that her life was taken by the accused and that she was brutally attacked prior to her death. While our justice system is imperfect, the Bible permits the use of the death penalty in certain contexts (Genesis 9:6). Biblical justice upholds the sanctity of life while empowering men and governments to go to extreme and definitive lengths to deter evil. In this case, our justice system opted to “spare” Ibarra’s life, a choice he did not make when he took Laken Riley’s life. As we grapple with the appropriateness of his sentencing, and our government’s liability in his being able to commit this crime in the first place, we know these things are true: 

• Our government is responsible for swiftly and severly responding to evil (Romans 13:4). 

• Vengeance is the Lord’s (Romans 12:19). 

• Healing and hope are available to Laken Riley’s family (especially given her faith in Christ) (Matthew 5:4, Psalm 147:3). 

• Forgiveness is available to Jose Ibarra (1 John 1:9). 

• God’s mercy triumphs over judgment for all of us (James 2:13). 

Perfect and final justice awaits Ibarra regardless of punishments handed out by human governments. May he avail himself to the grace of God before his final judgment (Hebrews 9:27), and may Laken’s family find comfort and peace as they wait for that day.

The Texas State Board of Education has preliminarily approved an optional K-5 curriculum incorporating Bible-based lessons into reading and language arts. Advocates emphasize the Bible's influence on American history and culture, arguing it enhances literacy and historical understanding. For example, kindergarteners would learn the Golden Rule through Jesus's Sermon on the Mount, with mentions of similar teachings in other religions. Critics contend the curriculum prioritizes Christianity, raising First Amendment concerns about government endorsement of religion. The curriculum also includes lessons on other faiths, like Purim and Buddhist poetry. The final vote is pending, potentially making Texas a model for similar initiatives nationwide.

Believers with sincere faith may arrive at different conclusions about the wisdom of this proposal, but both must reject the pervasive lie that secular worldviews are entirely neutral and/or absent from current curriculums (Colossians 2:8).

Whether or not our politicians and educators admit it, we acknowledge Jesus in our classrooms every single day already. It is 2024 AD—Anno Domini, which means "in the year of our Lord." Even if new initials are created to avoid offense, we still define all of time in relation to the Creator of time, matter, and space (Colossians 1:16-17).

Lessons are to be learned, but the Lord is to be loved (Deuteronomy 6:5). Growing in knowledge of Him is good, but having a saving faith is far greater (Ephesians 3:17-19). The Bible isn't just a book of benevolent stories; it's God's living and lasting word, sharper than any sword (Hebrews 4:12). Jesus wasn't just a good guide—He's the glorious God (Hebrews 1:3).

A society where we all understand the Golden Rule and know the story of the Good Samaritan is certainly better than one that doesn't. But we should aim to be a remnant marked by knowing these lessons and living them out regardless of your state's curriculum (James 1:22).

First Transgender Person Elected to Congress

Delaware has made history by electing the first openly transgender individual to Congress. Sarah McBride, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, will officially take office in the House of Representatives this January. Following this development, GOP Representative Nancy Mace, herself a survivor of rape and assault, promptly introduced a resolution aimed at prohibiting biological males from accessing women’s spaces within the Capitol building and congressional office areas. Mace’s resolution reflects ongoing debates about gender identity, safety, and access to gender-specific spaces in public and government facilities.

The central concern of this story is not merely Rep. Mace's resolution or the election of a transgender woman to Congress but the deeper spiritual and cultural issue of a man believing he is a woman and seeking to be affirmed as such. While the Bible does not specifically address the modern concept of transgenderism, it provides a clear foundation for understanding human identity and sexuality. God's creation of humanity in His image includes the intentional design of male and female (Genesis 1:27). Deuteronomy 22:5 denounces cross-dressing, describing it as an abomination, reflecting God's desire for clarity in the distinctions He ordained.

Scripture further affirms that deviations from God's design for sexuality and gender are sinful. Jesus reiterates the sacred union of male and female in marriage in Matthew 19:4-5, and Paul explicitly condemns homosexual acts and behaviors that blur gender distinctions (Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9), highlighting behaviors inconsistent with God's order and emphasizing the importance of living according to His will.

This situation calls for both conviction and compassion. Pray for this future Delaware legislator and others who are misled by the prince of the age (Ephesians 2:2) that they might encounter the transformative grace of Christ and turn to Him for truth and redemption. Let us also pray for a culture increasingly confused about God's design, asking for wisdom and courage to speak the truth in love.

Trump to Use Recess Appointments

President-elect Donald Trump has opened the door to using recess appointments to bypass Senate confirmation, even as Republicans hold “the trifecta” – control of the presidency and both chambers of Congress. Ahead of John Thune’s election as Senate Majority Leader, Trump emphasized that supporting recess appointments would be a prerequisite for the role, citing the need to avoid delays in filling critical positions. After his election, Thune acknowledged that recess appointments remain an option but expressed hope they would not be necessary.

Recess appointments, constitutionally permitted under specific conditions, allow presidents to temporarily fill vacancies without Senate approval during congressional recesses. Historically, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush used this authority extensively, though not for top-level Cabinet positions. Barack Obama, however, faced limitations after a 2014 Supreme Court ruling required a recess of at least 10 days. While critics argue that recess appointments undermine the Senate’s role in providing checks and balances, proponents see them as a vital tool to prevent political stalling and ensure government functionality.

The Bible does not speak directly to the nuances of recess appointments or constitutional intricacies, but it calls us to stand firm in what God has made clear, exercising wisdom and discernment in all things (James 1:5). Our duty as the remnant is to speak loudly where God has spoken clearly and with caution where He has not (Deuteronomy 29:29).

It’s crucial to recognize the temptation to align blindly with political figures and parties (Matthew 6:24). While we may cheer for our leaders as they navigate the system, we must remember that God, not man, is our ultimate authority (Romans 13:1). Let us not be double-minded (James 1:8). Ask yourself: Would your response—whether in condemnation or justification—remain consistent if the opposing party proposed the same measure? As believers, we have the freedom to call balls and strikes, no matter who is at bat.

Consensus is not a sign of morality, nor is disrupting the political status quo. The question of recess appointments may make for good dinner conversation (or not), but it will not be mentioned when we sit at the Lord’s table in Heaven. Be faithful in the present, and keep your focus on the eternal, for that is where our true citizenship lies (Philippians 3:20).

Iran’s ‘Treatment Clinics’ for Women

Iran has announced plans to establish a "hijab removal treatment clinic" to provide "scientific and psychological treatment" for women who defy the country's strict hijab laws, according to Mehri Talebi Darestani, a government official. Critics and human rights advocates view this initiative as a coercive and psychologically abusive effort to suppress dissent against the mandatory hijab. This announcement follows longstanding protests by Iranian women, including the 2022 uprising sparked by Mahsa Amini's death at the hands of the morality police, and reflects the regime's increasing use of mental health institutions as tools for repression. Many see these clinics as a continuation of Iran's harsh tactics to silence opposition and enforce conformity to the ruling ideology.

The promotion of virtue and the prevention of vice are two worthy goals, specifically goals governments should be committed to as commanded by Scripture. Peter writes the "punishment of evildoers" and the "praise of those who do right" is the activity of righteous governments "sent by the Lord" to cause human flourishing (1 Peter 2:13-14). Trouble always follows in lands where governments fail to do their job or if governments abandon God's understanding of virtue and vice and replace them with their own definitions (Isaiah 5:20). Such is the case with Islamic nations and their laws (Proverbs 14:12). When men abandon God's teachings and create their own, or men confuse false prophets with God's prophets, oppression and sadness quickly multiply (Jeremiah 6:16,19). Leadership is always consequential and when the wicked rule, people will be forced to hide and inevitably groan (Proverbs 28:28, 29:2).

Sharia, or Islamic law, finds its origins in the Quran and the Hadith. The Quran is Islam's holiest book, and the Hadith is where Islamists believe the sayings and actions of Muhammad, based on his understanding of the principles he wrote about in the Quran, are recorded. However, not all Islamic scholars agree on how to best regulate conduct, family relations, business dealings, and dress codes based on their understanding of the Quran and the Hadith. As a result, Sharia law is as varied in different Islamic states as traffic laws are around the world, and while it may be okay to change which side of the road cars should travel on, it is not okay to travel in the wrong direction or drift from Truth (Hebrews 2:1-3). While Muhammad claimed to hear the words he wrote in the Quran from an angel because those writings reject the grace of God as revealed in the gospel, they are to be rejected (Galatians 1:6-8). There is no virtue in promoting Sharia law or looking to the Quran as a means of defining virtue or seeking blessing (Galatians 1:9).

Bible-Readers Less Lonely Than Others

The American Bible Society released the eighth chapter of its "State of the Bible USA 2024" report this week, focusing on the issue of loneliness. The report highlights that individuals who cultivate strong spiritual practices and frequently extend forgiveness tend to experience significantly less loneliness. In contrast, those less engaged with the Bible, church, or forgiveness often report higher levels of isolation. These findings underscore the profound connection between faith engagement, relational habits, and emotional well-being.

Most Americans report moderate to high levels of loneliness. Among the "Bible disengaged"—the 138 million adults who rarely or never read the Bible and don't find it central in their lives—that number is about three out of four. Conversely, among the 47 million who think the Bible is very important, nearly 90% of the Bible-engaged do not find loneliness to be a problem.

We were not designed to be alone or isolated. God wants us to gather together, loving one another (John 13:34-35) and practicing the "One Another's" of Scripture as a family. We're commanded to assemble together (Hebrews 10:24-25), to stir each other up, and to encourage one another. Solomon told us it's better to have a partner than to go alone (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). We are, collectively, the body of Christ, and no one member can function without the rest of the body (1 Corinthians 12:12-27, Romans 12:4-5).

How does being engaged with the Bible help us allay loneliness? Scripture not only informs us that God has a plan for us (Psalm 139), it tells us who He is and that He can be trusted to be there when we feel alone or isolated (Psalm 19:7-11). The Bible is God's word (2 Timothy 3:16) and He wants to communicate with us through the written Word (Hebrews 4:12-13) and His Son, the living Word.

Having a relationship with God is our primary purpose. We were made to know Him and glorify Him (Psalm 100:2-3, Ecclesiastes 12:13). It's no surprise that those who are more engaged with their Bible and its Author have a better outlook on life and belong to a community of believers who share their values, beliefs, convictions, and lives with each other.

Child Marriage Law in Iraq

Iraq's parliament, dominated by conservative Shia groups, is pushing a bill to lower the legal marriage age for girls to nine, which would also strip women of rights to divorce, child custody, and inheritance. Women's rights advocates, including Raya Faiq and a coalition of female Iraqi representatives, are fighting the bill, calling it a serious threat to women's rights and safety. Supporters of the law argue it protects girls from "immoral relationships," but opponents see it as a move to control and limit women's freedoms. Human rights organizations warn that this legislation would increase the risks of sexual violence and lead to a rise in girls being pulled from school.

The Bible does not provide a specific age requirement for marriage, but several passages give contextual clues. In 1 Corinthians 7:36, the Greek word used in reference to a female literally means "past her youth." In Ezekiel 16, an illustration showing God's care for Israel, the nation is represented as a girl who reaches physical maturity. In Hebrew, the word used for older females literally means "a marriageable woman."

The idea that a little girl might be married off against her will is deeply troubling. However, it is a travesty that is consistent with the Islamic worldview. Muhammad himself was married to a nine-year-old girl. Yet, there are current laws in place that would make Muhammad a convict. Sadly, it makes sense why they would want to pass a law that would vindicate the horrid sin their false prophet committed.

In response, we must look to the true Prophet, Jesus Christ, the One who prophesied that He will prepare a place for us, the One who prophesied that He will come back with a sword, and the One who truly loved children (John 14:2; Revelation 19:15; Matthew 19:13–14). Let us pray for the children of Iraq and the people of Iraq that they would reject Muhammad and accept the One who will come back to judge the living and the dead.

Easier to Be LGBTQ Than Christian

In Northern Ireland, students reportedly find it more challenging to express their Christian beliefs than to reveal their sexual orientation, according to David Smyth of the Evangelical Alliance Northern Ireland during an inquiry on Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE). Smyth emphasized concerns that Evangelical perspectives are increasingly marginalized in schools, especially on topics like abortion and sexual identity. He advocated for an RSE curriculum that balances diverse viewpoints without pressuring students ideologically, stressing a need for common ground on topics such as healthy relationships and consent. Smyth also criticized some RSE materials as age-inappropriate or scientifically inaccurate, highlighting a need for careful consideration of sensitive issues.

The LGBTQ movement's hold on popular culture is neither puzzling nor unexpected (Ecclesiastes 1:9). Satan is the prince of this world (1 John 5:19), and he has blinded the minds of unbelievers and holds many in the grip of his lies and slavery (2 Corinthians 4:4). Without the Holy Spirit to guide us into truth, man is subject to broken longings (Jeremiah 17:9) and Satan's deceitful schemes (Ephesians 4:14). 

It is the duty and privilege of Christian parents to teach their children to do what is right (Romans 12:21, James 4:4) rather than what is acceptable to the world (1 John 2:15), to shepherd them in truth and expose them to the way of life, and to protect them from the enemy, his agendas, and his ambassadors (and the corners of the internet where children are being victimized and groomed in these ideologies at increasingly alarming rates). 

We have to stand in our faith, wielding truth and love like a sword and shield, teaching our children that it is faith, not acceptance, conformity, or popularity, that overcomes the world (1 John 4:4). We are called to encourage them, embolden them, and most of all, teach them the word of God so that they might have something with which to fight (Ephesians 6:17).

The Onion Buys Infowars

The satirical news site The Onion purchased Alex Jones' Infowars at a bankruptcy auction, with financial support from families of Sandy Hook shooting victims, to whom Jones owes over $1 billion in defamation damages for his false claims that the 2012 massacre was a hoax. As part of the acquisition, The Onion obtained Infowars' website, social media accounts, studio, trademarks, and video archive. Gun safety organization Everytown for Gun Safety will be Infowars' exclusive launch advertiser, using the platform to promote gun violence prevention. Jones announced plans to fight the acquisition and move his broadcasts to new platforms if necessary.

While there are many layers to peel back on this story, one thing is certain: the tongue has the power to cost you far more than your fortune—it can "corrupt the whole body, set the whole course of one's life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell" (James 3:6).

Sensationalized language may have gained Alex Jones fame and fortune in today's attention economy, but as Scripture begs us all to consider, "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?" (Mark 8:36). 

Ironically, this story might read like satire, but remember, there is a God who knows how each of our stories will unfold—and no one can escape the consequences of their words and their actions (Matthew 12:36).

Archbishop of Canterbury Resigns

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby announced his resignation after an investigation revealed he failed to report the abuse by John Smyth, a camp volunteer, to authorities when he became aware of it in 2013. This decision came amid growing pressure, especially from victims and some clergy, who argued Welby had lost their trust by not acting sooner to protect vulnerable individuals. Welby admitted responsibility for the delay and recognized the long-term harm his inaction had caused. His departure follows ongoing revelations about widespread historical abuse within the Church of England.

As horrific as the archbishop's decisions were related to enabling predatory behavior by priests under his authority, it is hardly surprising given that he has long been the arch nemesis of fidelity to the sufficiency and authority of God's Word. The curses that accompany the rejection of God's Word are serious and certain (Revelation 22:18-19).

The remnant must be forever vigilant in holding its leaders to account. It is not enough that you are part of a denomination or local church that has an orthodox doctrinal statement; every believer needs to confront and withhold their support, both in presence and provision (2 John 1:10-11), whenever there is no clear proclamation of those dogmas in word and deed (1 John 3:18).

It is always a judgment on people when they accept spiritual leaders who are unfaithful (Judges 17:4-19:18). It is the job of EVERY believer to evaluate the Spiritual fitness and fidelity of their leadership (2 Corinthians 11:3-4, 1 Timothy 3:2-7). Welby appropriately repented of his failures in stating, "It is very clear that I must take personal and institutional responsibility for the long and retraumatizing period between 2013 and 2024", and every single member of the church should follow in repenting of their failures for following him when he equivocated on the objective truth of God's Word and began to embrace his own preferences and perspectives. Tozer was right in stating, "Modern Christians hope to save the world by being like it, but it will never work. The church's power over the world springs out of her unlikeness to it, never her integration into it."

A New Feminist Movement

The 4B movement, originating in South Korea, has gained traction in the U.S. following Trump’s 2024 election. This feminist movement encourages women to reject dating, marriage, sexual relations with men, and childbirth as a form of protest against patriarchy and restrictions on women’s rights. Now, some American women see it as a way to push back against perceived setbacks to women’s rights under Trump’s administration, including restrictions on abortion.

If you believe sexual licentiousness is the pinnacle of freedom and joy, then withholding sexuality will seem like the harshest punishment. The reality is that Scripture beckons all people to abstain from sex before and outside of marriage (Hebrews 13:4), not as a “revolt” against men or political opponents, but as an act of obedience and worship to God (Romans 12:1).

God’s design for human sexuality—when followed—leads to true freedom, freedom from the bondage of fleeting desires, heartbreak, unmet expectations, and the consequences of sin (Galatians 5:13). In His wisdom, He established boundaries that protect us, not as a punishment, but as a means to experience the fullness of life (John 10:10). If you are in Christ then your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, you are not your own, you’ve been bought with a price, therefore glorify God with your body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Lastly, I’d like to point you to the Heidelberg Catechism’s first question and answer:

Q: “What is your only comfort in life and death?”

A: “That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.”

May this be true of the remnant as we seek to find our identity and belonging in Christ.

Donald Trump’s Government

President-elect Donald Trump has been assembling his new administration with several notable appointments. Susie Wiles, Trump's campaign co-manager, is appointed as White House Chief of Staff, marking the first woman in this role for Trump. Stephen Miller, a long-time advisor, is named Deputy Chief of Staff, focusing on immigration policy, while Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host and military veteran, is nominated as Secretary of Defense. Trump also appointed Tom Homan to be in charge of our nation's borders and  Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the new "Department of Government Efficiency," aiming to reduce bureaucracy and streamline federal processes. 

Republicans are projected to have secured control of the House, giving the GOP major advantages in Washington alongside President-elect Donald Trump. This outcome strengthened Speaker Mike Johnson's leadership and opened the door for Republicans to pursue a conservative legislative agenda, including tax cuts, border funding, and school choice.

The GOP's victories do more than hint at a national desire for change. As Donald Trump assembles his administration and anticipates enjoying the support of a favorable Congress, the remnant doesn't have to hope for its opportunity to produce change; it should expect to. The Lord has charged his people with being agents of healing and hope and to shake off any spirit of timidity as they operate in the power of God's enabling grace (2 Timothy 1:7-8).

Wisdom acknowledges that while new leaders may bring fresh policies, our ultimate hope does not rest in human institutions but in God's sovereignty (Psalm 146:3). Wisdom should be celebrated, and truth should not be shunned, But the wise and truth-filled know that Washington has fooled us and failed us before. While we pray for godly leadership and responsible, inspired governance, we also remember that the most profound impact often happens in quiet, consistent acts of love and truthfulness toward those around us (1 Peter 3:15-16). We must remember that our job is to win over our neighbors with our love-motivated Gospel proclamation (1 Corinthians 16:13-14, Romans 1:16) even more than it is to win over Washington with our preferred experts and influencers.

Demonstration Ban in Amsterdam

In response to a recent surge of violence, Amsterdam has imposed a temporary ban on demonstrations following attacks targeting Israeli soccer fans in the city. Mayor Femke Halsema described how Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters were harassed and assaulted, prompting police to protect fans and escort them to safety. The Israeli government has sent planes to bring fans back home, and Israeli and Dutch leaders have condemned the attacks, with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof assuring that those responsible will face prosecution. Amidst rising tensions tied to the Gaza-Israel conflict, Amsterdam’s police have been granted additional powers, and security has been heightened, especially as the city prepares to commemorate the anniversary of Kristallnacht, a night of historic anti-Semitic violence in 1938.

There are numerous examples throughout history of unchecked crowds creating trouble (Numbers 14:1-10, Acts 17:5-7, 19:28-40) and making tragically poor decisions (Mark 15:8-14). Mobs and the collective behavior they encourage do not typically give birth to wisdom. If it is true that the companion of fools will suffer harm (Proverbs 13:20), then surely it follows that the companions of crowds of fools will suffer much more (Numbers 16:32).

Racism and other forms of sin come easily to men and grow easier when the allusion of anonymity and the support of "peers" are added to the mix. But God does not judge us in crowds (2 Corinthians 5:10), and there is no such thing as a hidden action (Ecclesiastes 12:14). What does exist is a human tendency toward collective "herd" behavior, and herd animals have to be careful what voice they recognize as they are shepherded (John 10:27-28).

FEMA’s Anti-Trump Scandal

In the wake of Hurricane Milton's devastation, a FEMA supervisor, Marn'i Washington, allegedly directed relief workers in Lake Placid, Florida, to bypass homes with pro-Trump signs. This alleged directive reportedly led workers to skip roughly 20 homes, meaning they were not given the opportunity to qualify for FEMA assistance. FEMA swiftly removed Washington from her position, with Administrator Deanne Criswell condemning the reported actions as a breach of FEMA's mission to provide non-partisan aid. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis decried the incident as a "weaponization" of government under the Biden-Harris administration, ordering a state investigation into potential discrimination. FEMA pledged to take corrective actions to prevent similar occurrences.

The Bible doesn't command us to love only those who share our political views—it calls us to love everyone (Luke 10:27). C.S. Lewis offers a convicting reminder: "It is easier to be enthusiastic about Humanity with a capital 'H' than it is to love individual men and women, especially those who are uninteresting, exasperating, depraved, or otherwise unattractive. Loving everybody in general may be an excuse for loving nobody in particular."

If your politics hinder you from loving your neighbor, it's a clear sign that your loves need to be re-ordered (Matthew 6:24). Despite what some would have you believe, political idolatry is a sin that both the progressive and the conservative are vulnerable to (Colossians 3:5).

Our ability to love others is only possible because Christ loved us first (1 John 4:19). He made it clear that the two greatest commandments are inseparable: love God and love others (Matthew 22:37-39). What makes Christianity radically different from every other worldview is that we are called to love not just our neighbors but our enemies as well (Matthew 5:44). 

There was no better example of this than Jesus' last words on the cross. He prayed for those who nailed Him to that cross: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34).

Gateway Church Investigation Update

Gateway Church recently removed several elders after an independent investigation into past child sexual abuse allegations against former senior pastor Robert Morris. The investigation, prompted by Cindy Clemishire's allegations that Morris sexually abused her as a minor in the 1980s, revealed that some church leaders were aware of the specific details of the infidelity/abuse but failed to act; others "who had enough information that they should have led them to ask more questions, but they did not." Gateway elder Tra Willbanks commended Clemishire's bravery, denounced abuse, and noted that all elders and employees with prior knowledge of Morris' actions have been removed. The church is cooperating with a criminal investigation and reflecting on governance failures that led to centralized power around Morris, prompting changes to prevent future issues.

The Gateway Church investigation has revealed a profoundly tragic and sobering chapter in this story of leadership, failure, responsibility, and trust. Those who are aware of wrongdoing yet remain indifferent are, by definition, complicit (Ephesians 5:11-13). Ignoring clear signs of sin or disregarding troubling information is not a mark of love but rather a willful negligence that prioritizes false comfort over the honest, difficult accountability that Scripture calls us to embrace (Proverbs 27:5-6). Although we may not fully understand why certain individuals chose to stay silent, we do know their inaction kept darkness concealed, allowing its impact and devastation to grow (James 5:19-20). While Robert Morris may have "lived in the light" with a select few who knew the full details, he entrusted himself to those who, by their inaction, betrayed justice and righteousness (Isaiah 5:20). Instead of acting with the conviction and transparency Scripture demands, these men chose silence, failing to protect the vulnerable (Matthew 18:5-6) and fulfill their spiritual and moral duty (James 4:17). They have been rightly removed from their offices as leaders and overseers, and we pray that justice continues to be handed out as appropriate.

Election Results and Reactions

Just days after Election Day, the nation is still absorbing the results and awaiting final counts in a few key races. Republicans have secured control of the Senate with a 53-seat majority (Democrats holding 45 seats), with two races still too close to call. In the House, Republicans currently lead with 211 seats to the Democrats' 199, and 25 races remain undecided. The country is also reacting to Donald Trump's sweeping victory, as he won both the popular vote and the Electoral College, marking a significant shift in U.S. politics. Several state amendments were also passed, including measures on reproductive rights, voting access, and drug policy reform, reflecting a range of regional policy priorities. The political landscape ahead promises to be dynamic as these new representatives and policies begin to take shape.

While Americans continue to examine election results with great elation, great despair, guarded optimism, or humble acceptance, there is one response that is always God-honoring as the Lord examines a nation and its people (Genesis 18:20-21). Irrespective of the government that stands over men or the depravity that surrounds them, the remnant has been given a clear command (Isaiah 40:8). This command would stand regardless of how swing states voted and without concern for the number of "swingers" who occupy your state (Genesis 18:20). God expects His chosen to "command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice" so that "the LORD may bring upon them what He has spoken about them" (Genesis 18:19).

Whether it is ~1900 BC and your name is Abraham hanging around the Oaks in Mamre (Genesis 18:1), or it is 2024 and you live in Oakland, California, God's will for you remains the same (Hebrews 13:8). He expects you to lead your family and those around you in practicing righteousness and justice (Micah 6:8) and keep the way of the Lord so it "may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which the LORD your God is giving you for all time" (Deuteronomy 4:40).

So while you continue to watch results of still too-close-to-call House and Senate seats, make sure you surround yourself with Godly spiritual leaders who will help you "keep watch over your souls" (Hebrews 13:17), knowing each of us will one day "appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad" (2 Corinthians 5:10). So while there may be "bad votes" during every election cycle, may it never be said there are "bad deeds" among the elect (Galatians 6:9).

Pro-Choice Amendments

Earlier this week, ten states voted on abortion rights measures, with mixed outcomes. Voters in Arizona, Missouri, Colorado, New York, Maryland, Montana, and Nevada passed measures to "protect or expand abortion access." Notably, Arizona and Missouri's decisions overturned previous abortion limits, and Colorado's measure allows public funds to support abortion services, including Medicaid coverage.

Conversely, attempts to enshrine abortion access failed in Florida, South Dakota, and Nebraska. Florida's measure narrowly missed the 60% threshold needed to pass. In Nebraska, voters supported a 12-week ban, rejecting a competing amendment for broader access. 

Jesus never said His ways would be popular. Instead, He warned, "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you" (John 15:18). Biblical truth doesn't bend to the will of a voting majority, nor was it intended to be subject to popular approval. The recent measures passed in several states expanding abortion access show how society often chooses convenience over conviction, prioritizing comfort over conscience (2 Timothy 4:3).

It is crucial to recognize that the pro-choice side has always said, "There is only one life, the mother, who is worthy of life, dignity, and protection." But the pro-life side has always said, "There are two people, the mother and the baby, who are worthy of life, dignity, and protection" (Jeremiah 1:5). The remnant must be clear: it is never compassionate to kill an innocent human (Exodus 23:7). As Christians, we're tasked not with shaping truth to fit culture, but with calling culture to account, reminding society that all life is sacred in God's eyes (Psalm 139:13-14).

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had something to say to those who championed the idea that you can't "legislate morality," contending, "But we must go on to say that while it may be true that morality cannot be legislated, behavior can be regulated. It may be true that the law cannot change the heart, but it can restrain the heartless. It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that is pretty important, also."

Christians should acknowledge that putting in place legal protections for all innocent humans may not truly sanctify the human heart of your neighbor, but it can keep them from killing their baby. And I think that is pretty important, also.

Australian Legislation Proposes Social Media Ban 

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that his government will introduce legislation next week to ban children from using social media, including platforms like X, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. The ban, set to take effect one year after approval, aims to address the risks to mental and physical health linked to excessive social media use among young people. While social media companies like Meta are expected to enforce age limitations, there is some opposition, with concerns about privacy and the lack of clarity on enforcement. Critics, including independent lawmakers and child safety experts, argue that the ban could be too broad and discourage platforms from enhancing child safety features.

A prolific amount of research implicates social media as a major antagonist in the lives of modern-day youth. While there may be nuance to the practicality or concerns about the enforcement of such legislation, there can be no denying that there is an issue of nearly epic proportions to address here. Scripture celebrates leaders who see problems and create solutions. It also celebrates people and cultures who seek to protect children (Proverbs 31:8-9) and condemns those who expose or endanger them (Matthew 18:6). In the face of the many crises created by access to social media, we see as much of a need for parents to step up as we do for policies to be set up. Children should be trained up in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6), discipled, taught, and exposed to the Way of Life (Deuteronomy 6:6-8, Ephesians 6:4). When parents neglect this God-given responsibility, the role is readily taken up by a world, strategy, and strategist committed to their destruction (Ephesians 6:12, John 10:10). Don’t wait for the government to come up with imperfect solutions (with unclear implications) to do what time, attention, thoughtfulness, and love can.

Last night, Americans watched closely as votes were counted nationwide, and early this morning, results indicated that Donald Trump secured 277 electoral votes (with more votes yet to be finalized), positioning him to become the 47th President of the United States. Current numbers also indicate the GOP is on track to gain control of the Senate, with a projected majority of at least 50 seats. Although Vice President Kamala Harris has not yet formally conceded, reports suggest she will acknowledge the results later today. Trump addressed supporters after Pennsylvania, his third key swing state, was called in his favor, with the Associated Press declaring the election around 4:00 AM CT. Control of the U.S. House remains undecided, with the GOP maintaining a slight lead.

This Remnant Response was intentionally prepared prior to last night’s results and remains true whether our nation swung blue or red.

Election Day Tomorrow

We are closing in on Election Day 2024, and polls show a tight race between former President Trump and Vice President Harris. Nationally, both candidates are tied at 49% in NBC and Emerson College polls. Harris leads Trump by three points in Iowa, a state Trump won in previous elections, according to the latest Iowa Poll. Swing state polls show Harris with slight leads in North Carolina and Wisconsin, while Trump is ahead in Arizona. Key battlegrounds like Michigan, Georgia, and Pennsylvania remain nearly even. An ABC News/Ipsos poll gives Harris a small national lead at 49% to Trump's 46%. Margins of error make most leads "statistical ties," reflecting a closely contested election.

The Bible does not explicitly command us to vote, but it does encourage us to be wise, Spirit-led participants in society (Matthew 5:16). When citizens who walk in the Spirit engage in the democratic process, they invite light into areas that might otherwise be influenced by the "prince of the air" (Ephesians 2:2). Scripture reminds us that "there is no authority except that which God has established" (Romans 13:1). In our constitutional republic, this places "we, the people" at the top of the chain of authority, prompting us to steward our influence in ways that honor the Lord (Colossians 3:17).

Voting is one way to seek the welfare of our land (Jeremiah 29:7), but it is not the only means. Remember, the church—not any nation or political party—is the true light of the world (Matthew 5:14). Whoever becomes our next President does not change our mission as the bride of Christ (1 Peter 2:9).

God knows everything (Isaiah 46:10); He already knows the outcome of the 2024 Presidential Election. Even in a representative democracy, it is ultimately God who deposes kings and raises up others (Daniel 2:21). So, even as you cast your ballot, do not cast your worries on a mere politician—only God can save (1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 146:3). In all things, God works for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28). 

No matter the outcome, commit to praying for whoever assumes the Oval Office (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Pray for our nation to repent and seek Jesus as our ultimate authority (2 Chronicles 7:14). Finally, remember that as believers, we are to reflect the character of Christ in our interactions with others. Our demeanor should be a testimony to our faith and reliance on the Lord; therefore, "let your reasonableness be known to everyone" this week and every week (Philippians 4:5).

Tucker Carlson’s Demonic Encounter

Tucker Carlson claimed he was "physically mauled" by a demon in his bed about a year and a half ago, an experience he says left him with bleeding claw marks. Describing it as a "transformative experience," he recalled waking up unable to breathe and later finding four claw marks on his sides and left shoulder. His wife and dogs remained asleep during the incident, which he found unusual given their light sleeping habits. Carlson said the encounter sparked an intense desire to read the Bible and understand more about good and evil.

As Todd Wagner often says, "I am not going to argue with your experience, but I may argue with what you make of it." 

When we have experiences, our experiences must be tested by the Word of God rather than our feelings (2 Peter 1:16–21). In our journey, we contend against a combination of three entities: the flesh, the course of this world, and the devil (Ephesians 2:1–3). All three wish to see that we remain in the domain of darkness and not transferred to the Kingdom of His beloved Son (Colossians 1:13). Nevertheless, we are carried by the grace of God and not by our own merit (Ephesians 2:4–10). As God's Remnant, we are called to pursue wisdom through God's Word (Psalm 19:7–9; Matthew 7:24) and remain steadfast in prayer (Matthew 6:9–13).

Tucker Carlson's account of a supernatural experience left him with a "very intense desire to read the Bible." This should be our response, too, regardless of our experiences. Whether it be minor daily choices or major life decisions, we should test all of our actions through the lens of Scripture, seeking to submit our lives to His Word (Romans 12:1–2). The Bible is not something that we should read once or twice and then put on the shelf; it is the Word of God, preparing us for every good work (2 Timothy 3:17). It provides a foundation for walking the ancient path and offering guidance to find rest for our souls (Jeremiah 6:16). May we all walk into each day with an intense desire to hear the Word of our Father and apply it to our lives that we might be a light in our respective communities in the midst of a dark world (John 1:9–12). Whatever it was that Carlson experienced, we can rejoice that it set him on a journey to dive into God's Word, and we can pray that he walks with One, Who is revealed as the Creator and Savior of the world, within its pages (Matthew 11:28-30).

SCOTUS Ruling on VA Voting

The Supreme Court allowed Virginia to temporarily proceed with purging around 1,600 people from its voter rolls, a move Republicans argue prevents non-citizens from voting. This provisional decision will apply to the upcoming election but leaves the case open for further review. Justices Kagan, Sotomayor, and Jackson dissented, while voting rights groups and the Justice Department opposed the purge, citing concerns that it could disenfranchise eligible voters. The issue centers on identifying non-citizens through DMV records and aligns with federal restrictions on removing voters close to elections.

If it is true, as Joseph de Maistre asserted, "that a nation gets the government it deserves," then it is also true that a nation should make sure only its citizens are allowed to vote. If non-citizens can vote in an election, then it is not the nation that chooses its leaders but potential foreign actors who cannot be assumed to have the same motivations as citizens (Leviticus 20:23). God warned His people against "multi-culturalism," reminding Israel that there is to be "one regulation for you, whether a resident foreigner or a native citizen" and to remember that there are some world views that are "abhorrent to the Lord" (Leviticus 24:22).

While it is wrong to take advantage of someone because they are a foreigner in the land (Exodus 22:21), it is not oppressive to ask them to abide by the laws of their new land (Leviticus 18:26) and for obvious reasons, the law of most lands is that only citizens can participate in elections. 

While the SCOTUS decision is encouraging, it is not encouraging that many who have been born and raised in our country advocate for values or are supportive of candidates who embrace ideas that are "abhorrent to the Lord." It is just as important to purge Americans of deadly philosophies and political ideologies as it is to purge the voter rights of non-citizens (Joshua 24:15). While it is the job of the state to make sure only its citizens vote, it is the job of the church to train them to vote in a way that will lead to the state being blessed (Matthew 28:19-20). We can be thankful Virginia has secured the right to purge its voter rolls, but we must remain passionate about purging sin from rolling through the hearts and minds of men (Romans 12:1-2).

Friday Good News

The Concert for Carolina, organized by Luke Combs and Eric Church, raised a staggering $24.5 million for Hurricane Helene relief efforts. Held at a sold-out Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, over 82,000 fans packed the venue, with additional funds generated from livestream tickets. The lineup featured big names like James Taylor, Billy Strings, Sheryl Crow, and Keith Urban, with special appearances from Nicole Kidman and Dolly Parton, who donated $1 million to the cause.

Panthers owner David Tepper and his wife Nicole provided the stadium free of charge, covering all expenses to maximize donations. Proceeds will support Combs' chosen charities, including Samaritan's Purse and local food banks, while Church's foundation will fund a home-building initiative, Blueprint for the Blue Ridge, in Avery County, NC.

Good news often gets lost in the flood of worry and negativity, but stories like this remind us that God's light still shines in dark times (John 1:5). We are all His image-bearers (Genesis 1:27), and through His common grace, we're empowered to reveal His goodness (Romans 2:4).

Scripture urges us to "mourn with those who mourn" (Romans 12:15), but our compassion is not meant to end on itself (1 John 3:18). The Lord commands us to "seek the welfare of the city… and pray to the Lord on its behalf" (Jeremiah 29:7). We are called to be salt and light, preserving what's good and illuminating what's true (Matthew 5:13).

Ultimately, actions rooted in love and obedience serve as a testimony to God's work within us (John 15:8). As Paul writes, we are created in Christ to do good works, "which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). This story illustrates exactly what it means to let our light shine before others, that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father (Matthew 5:16).

SCOTUS Ruling on VA Voting Rights

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby sparked controversy by suggesting on a podcast that sexual intimacy, whether in heterosexual or same-sex relationships, is not sinful if within a committed relationship. His comments reflect a shift towards blessing same-sex couples in civil partnerships, aligning with the Church of England's recent but divisive Prayers of Love and Faith (PLF). Evangelicals, particularly the Church of England Evangelical Council (CEEC), expressed shock, calling Welby's stance a departure from traditional Christian doctrine. Lambeth Palace clarified that Welby was sharing his personal view, not an official doctrinal change, and emphasized ongoing church discussions on the matter.

While we should not be surprised, it still comes as a shock to hear that the head of the Church of England has made such comments regarding sexual sin. However, this is a congregation that has already accepted LGBTQ pastors living together (in platonic relationships) and ordained Lesbians as Bishops.

The decision, provided it ultimately aligns with the Archbishop's comments, could potentially split the Anglican Communion in much of the same way that the embrace of homosexuality has split the global Methodist church over the last few years. Opposition within the Communion is fierce. Sadly, the opposition has expressed its dissatisfaction by focusing on the departure from Church doctrine and not on the deviation from Scripture.

Scripture is our inerrant guide to living in ways that emulate Jesus and honor God (1 Peter 1:16), and it is clear that all sexual immorality, including homosexuality, is sinful (Leviticus 20:13, 1 Corinthians 6:9). Embracing clear sin (while dismissing God's Word as irrelevant) is a microcosm of today's church: living in iniquity and disbelief.

Paul makes it clear that the sure result is that God will give evildoers over to even more wicked and depraved sins (Romans 1:26-27). The church's leaders – pastors and teachers – are judged by God with a stricter standard (James 3:1), and those who have exchanged the authority given by God for the approval of the culture will be judged more harshly.

Trump Rally Labeled “Racist”

Donald Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden last Sunday, drawing widespread criticism before and after the event. During the event, a comedian known for insult comedy controversially referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage," sparking backlash on social media.

Despite the heated media comparisons to historic racist gatherings and public outcry, the rally saw significant turnout, with supporters emphasizing themes of economic reform, national security, and freedom of speech. Trump addressed his base with promises to "restore American strength" and push back against what he described as "elite agendas." The rally has since reignited debates over free expression and the role of media in shaping public perception of political gatherings.

It is undeniable that a significant portion of today’s mainstream media is laden with bias and, as such, should be read carefully and “trusted” accordingly. Sadly, the pattern of misrepresentation, manipulation, and misinformation has become all too common in our polarized nation. The remnant is wise to heed the truth of Proverbs 14:15, “the simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.” The one source we can rely on entirely is God’s Word, which remains unchanging and true (Isaiah 40:8). 

Was Trump’s MSG rally truly reminiscent of past Nazi gatherings, as some claimed? No, it was not. Were there ways to communicate convictions and critiques in clearer, kinder, and more clever ways? Undoubtedly, there always are. 

Our tolerance for crass, hasty, lazy, unbecoming speech has risen to a level that the command of Ephesians 4:29 should leave us uncomfortable with. As a people, it is imperative that we are set apart in our values, beliefs, conduct, and speech (Colossians 4:6). We must be able to identify what is good while still calling out what is not (Ephesians 5:11, Isaiah 5:20). Believe it or not, there is a way to make people laugh, and compel people to consider your ways without disparaging others and holding uncompromisingly fast to what is true (1 Thessalonians 5:21). 

While the left and the right duke it out to till the bitter end and leverage every opportunity for their advantage, may we be known for our duty to God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:14-15), leveraging every opportunity to shine like lights in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation (Philippians 2:15). While others anxiously await election outcomes and place their hope in candidates may they see our good works and hear our gracious words in a way that makes them wonder where our security, hope, faith, and joy comes from (Matthew 5:16).

Tomorrow marks 507 years since Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of Wittenberg's castle church in 1517, challenging the Catholic Church's practices and teachings, particularly its sale of indulgences. Reformation Day, celebrated on October 31, commemorates Martin Luther's pivotal role in initiating the Protestant Reformation. This act catalyzed a transformative debate on core doctrines, emphasizing salvation by grace through faith alone and the authority of Scripture over church traditions. Luther's contributions reshaped Western society—translating the Bible into German, reforming the liturgy, reinforcing the concept of the priesthood of all believers, affirming the dignity of individual vocations— and changed the world forever. 

Praise the Lord for the Protestant Reformation (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Martin Luther's boldness in challenging the practices of his time was not an act of rebellion but an act of obedience to God's Word over human tradition (Matthew 15:3). Understandably, one of Luther's most often quoted verses was, "We must obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29).

Sin often deceives us into seeing it only "out there"—in the secular world or in our neighbors—while we overlook its presence within ourselves and in the church (James 1:14-15). Luther recognized that corruption could infiltrate even those who claim Christ if they are not moored to Him and His Word (1 Peter 4:17; Colossians 2:6-7). As a collective body and as individuals, we must constantly evaluate ourselves against the truth of Scripture, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to our hearts daily (2 Corinthians 13:5). After all, what we believe shapes our thoughts, actions, and relationship with God (Proverbs 4:23).

Remember, it is by grace that you have been saved through faith; it is not anything you did but a gift from God so that none of us can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). We pray that the remnant continues to stand, like Luther, on the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:27).
