</style><div class='beehiiv__body'><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">You don’t feel broken. You feel tired. But not normal tired.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">It’s the kind of tired that shows up even after sleep.<br>The kind that makes small decisions feel heavy.<br>The kind that makes you reach for something: food, scrolling, wine, overworking, just to take the edge off.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">And then you wonder: <i>What is wrong with me?</i></p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Before we answer that, look at this.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">According to <i>Entrepreneur Magazine (2025)</i>:<br>• 83% report high stress<br>• 78% report anxiety<br>• 54% report burnout</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">A 2026 <i>She Success Business Magazine</i> report found 86% cite financial pressure and lack of downtime as their biggest stressors.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">And Gallup (December 2024) reported that women juggling work and family daily are <b>81% more likely to experience burnout.</b></p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">That’s not a personal flaw. That’s chronic activation. And chronic activation leads somewhere. It leads to <b>Quiet Depletion.</b></p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Quiet Depletion is what happens when stress never fully resolves.<br>When your nervous system stays slightly elevated for too long.<br>When you power through instead of processing.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">And here’s what most people don’t realize: When depletion builds, your brain shifts.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">The thoughtful, reflective part of your brain, your prefrontal cortex, requires energy.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">When energy drops, it gets quieter. And your lower brain gets louder.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">The lower brain is fast. Protective. Reactive. It doesn’t care about your long-term goals.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">It cares about relief.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Relief from pressure. Relief from discomfort. Relief from the constant hum of responsibility.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">So it whispers:</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">“Just eat it.”<br>“Just scroll.”<br>“Just pour the glass.”<br>“Just check out.”<br>“Just stop trying so hard.”</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Not because you’re weak.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Because your nervous system is overloaded.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">The urge isn’t random. It’s regulatory.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">It’s your brain trying to soothe in the fastest way available.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">And when you don’t understand this, you turn it inward.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">“I have no devotion.”<br>“I keep sabotaging myself.”<br>“I should be better than this.”</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">But the pattern isn’t moral. It’s neurological.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><i>Quiet Depletion → Lower Brain Activation → Urge for Relief</i>.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">That’s the loop.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">And if you don’t interrupt it, it becomes automatic.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">This is where Delay the Binge™ lives.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Not in fighting the urge.<br>Not in shaming the urge.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">In creating space before the reaction.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">When you pause, even 10 seconds, you bring the front part of your brain back online.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">You interrupt the relief loop. You move from reaction to choice.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Interrupt.<br>Name it.<br>Next right move.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Interrupt the pattern. Name the depletion underneath it. Choose one small action that actually supports you. Sometimes that next move is simple:</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Drink water.<br>Stand up.<br>Step outside.<br>Close the laptop.<br>Text someone safe.<br>Say “not today.”</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Not today to automatic relief. Not today to abandoning yourself.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">You don’t need more discipline. You need space.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">This week, when the lower brain chatter gets loud, try this: Delay the urge by 10 minutes.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">During those 10 minutes, ask: <b>What is quietly draining me right now?</b></p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">You’re not fixing your life. You’re retraining your brain.</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">One delay at a time.</p><hr class="content_break"><h2 class="heading" style="text-align:left;" id="go-deeper-voices-expanding-this-wor">Go Deeper: Voices Expanding This Work</h2><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">If this conversation about Quiet Depletion resonates, here are a few aligned voices who explore different pieces of this pattern:</p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><b>Christine Miles</b><br>Author of <b><a class="link" href="https://www.christinemileslistens.com/my-book?utm_source=newsletter.delaythebinge.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=when-the-lower-brain-gets-loud" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><i>What Is It Costing You Not to Listen?</i></a></b><br>Host of the <a class="link" href="https://www.christinemileslistens.com/?utm_source=newsletter.delaythebinge.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=when-the-lower-brain-gets-loud" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><i>Shine A Light Podcast</i></a><br>→ <a class="link" href="https://www.christinemileslistens.com/my-book?utm_source=newsletter.delaythebinge.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=when-the-lower-brain-gets-loud" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Read the book </a><br>→ <a class="link" href="https://www.christinemileslistens.com/?utm_source=newsletter.delaythebinge.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=when-the-lower-brain-gets-loud" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Listen to Shine A Light</a><br>→ <a class="link" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSTVw9HyUFM&t=2149s&utm_source=newsletter.delaythebinge.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=when-the-lower-brain-gets-loud" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Hear our conversation</a></p><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">Listening reduces emotional labor.<br>It lowers nervous system activation.<br>It reduces depletion.</p><hr class="content_break"><p class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><b>Michelle E.
