When, how, and why do Monarch butterflies go to Mexico? In addition to answering these questions, we will learn interesting butterfly characteristics (did you know that butterflies taste with their feet?).

Students will gain exposure to beginning vocabulary using music, art, and movement for a playful introduction to the Spanish language. This program is designed for children ages 5-10. We will walk along the path of the story, and along the way we’ll learn nature facts and answer questions inspire by the story. Our first story is If You Plant A Seed by Kadir Nelson. After the walk, AJ Moses from the Conservation Commission will help you plant your own seeds that you can watch grow over the summer!

• Wednesday 6/24 @ 12pm: Lunch and Learn Homeschool Group: Homeschoolers and their families can get together to play and talk. We will work on various projects throughout the year. Come to play, network, learn, and create. Facilitated by our youth services librarian, Hadley Roberts, who was a homeschool parent for many years. Ages 5-12 welcome.

Beginning in the year 2040 and moving backward through the present to 2014, Shanghailanders takes readers into the world of each of the Yangs, as well as the people in their orbit—a nanny from the provinces, a private driver with a penchant for danger, and a grandmother whose memories of the past echo the present. Along the way, Juli Min shows how a family makes and remakes itself over the years: what unites us and slowly drives us apart.

Beginning in the year 2040 and moving backward through the present to 2014, Shanghailanders takes readers into the world of each of the Yangs, as well as the people in their orbit—a nanny from the provinces, a private driver with a penchant for danger, and a grandmother whose memories of the past echo the present. Along the way, Juli Min shows how a family makes and remakes itself over the years: what unites us and slowly drives us apart.

• Monday 6/29 @ 3pm: Little Innovators, Big Dreams: Join local high school students for this exciting STEM workshop! Students ages 7-10 are welcome to come for experiments and science fun.

• Wednesday 7/1 @ 11am: Español es Divertido: Join Miss Hadley at this program for early elementary school students. Students will gain exposure to beginning vocabulary using music, art, and movement for a playful introduction to the Spanish language.

  This program is designed for children ages 5-10. Siblings are welcome but must be supervised by their parents/guardians.

• Saturday 6/20 @ 1:30pm: StoryWalk Grand Opening: Join us at Berlin Meadows for the grand opening of the Berlin StoryWalk®! We will walk along the path of the story, and along the way we’ll learn nature facts and answer questions inspire by the story. Our first story is If You Plant A Seed by Kadir Nelson. After the walk, AJ Moses from the Conservation Commission will help you plant your own seeds that you can watch grow over the summer!

• Monday 6/22 @ 5pm: Summer Reading Kick Off with Animal Adventures: Join Animal Adventures for a fun hands-on experience as we invite children of all ages to learn about, and pet, a variety of different animals!

  After the show, come to the service desk to register for another exciting Summer Reading Program. Our theme this year is “Plant a Seed, Read!” You can pick up your reading logs and instructions, learn about our prizes and events, and choose some books to get you started.

• Tuesday 6/23 @ 6pm: Growing Beans & Garlic: Emily Makrez, owner of F-Word Farm will teach us all about her obsession with beans – how beautiful they are (she has grown over 60 kinds!), how to grow them, why they are good for us and the soil, and ways to use them. Emily will also talk about another favorite to grow: garlic. Learn how to plant, harvest, cure and store them, some useful preserving tips…even how to perennialize them!

There will be fun for all ages and skill levels including those just learning to pedal and our smallest balance bike riders. Join us for bike safety courses, bike checks, bike decorating, and more! The program will be run in collaboration with the Berlin Police Department and the Mass DOT Safe Routes to School Program. Caregivers should plan to stay with their children. Everyone is welcome. This program is in danger of being cancelled - please register if you plan to attend!

This presentation features a lot of fun trivia questions for patrons to ponder as well. A Q&A session follows. This will be fun and thought-provoking so join in!

• Tuesday 5/5 @ 1pm: Young Scientists: Children, ages 3-6 with a parent/caregiver, will learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) concepts through hands-on activities, storytime, challenges, and simple experiments in this weekly STEM series facilitated by STEM Beginnings. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to help their child and join in the fun each class! Siblings are welcome and must be supervised. Registration is required.

• Thursday 5/7 @ 6pm: Community Game Night: Bring a favorite game to share with new friends, or come ready to learn a new board game. All are welcome at this monthly program!

• Thursday 5/14 @ 5pm: Mushroom Block Printing: Using Styrofoam and printing ink participants will create mushroom prints, celebrating the beauty of the natural world. Ages 6-11 welcome.

Come learn about this beautiful art form and get some henna done! All ages are welcome. • Monday 3/30 @ 10am: Egg Hunt: Come ready to participate in an egg hunt in the library's backyard. There will be crafts, fun, and finding! The egg hunt will take place inside the library in the event of poor weather.

• Monday 3/30 @ 5pm: Iris Paper Folded Cards: Iris Folding is a paper craft technique that involves folding strips of colored paper in such a way to form a design. Instructions and materials provided to make cards for birthdays, upcoming holidays, thank you cards, or any occasion. Learn new techniques, create useful objects, and craft with us. For ages 9-16.
