As the year draws to a close, so too must this chapter of our brick-and-mortar apothecary. Care Rituals will be closing its current storefront at the end of December.

It has been a true pleasure to share the craft with you — creating custom blends, assembling thoughtful gifts, and connecting over tea. Those moments have been the highlight of this space. I am truly grateful for all who came out to support the shop, thank you.

While I explore next steps, there’s a strong chance Care Rituals will operate primarily online for a season with limited items available at www.carerituals.com 

That said — if you know of a good, character-rich space that aligns with the Care Rituals vision (artisan-centered, community-forward, and within an hour of Gresham/Portland/Salem), I would genuinely appreciate any suggestions or introductions.

The mission continues — nourishing people and supporting local makers — whether online, in a future retail space, farmers markets, or something entirely new (castle not off the table).

Going out of business sale, come make a deal

I want you to not miss out on this incredible resource of loose leaf herb, roots, and bark available. For your own tea making, spell-work, or recipes the new list of herbs is available on the website, however, you have to pick up in the store. While you’re here you can also get reusable cloth teabags, strainers, beeswax, or ready made items like salves and soaps. Coming this Autumn we’ll even have tinctures!

Please let me know if you have any special requests for tinctures as I do like to plan those out to the natural life cycles and many take at minimum several weeks to gestate. My typical tinctures are aged at least 6 months. Always made with gluten-free, corn-free, alcohol. I like to use an Oregon Tilth certified organic potato vodka for extractions.

“Drink flowers & keep glowing!”

I’ve finally got around to writing this. If you came here through the newsletter than you might have forgotten that you signed up for this, for which I included photos down below to help jog your memory. I told ya I rarely ever send anything out. If you’re new here please subscribe on the website www.carerituals.com to be updated. This year will be a bit different from yesteryear.

As it’s Valentine’s Day I wanted to share some love with ya’ll. Thank you so much for all your support over the years as I grow my small business. It means the world to me!

I was overjoyed as I looked over my photos of events and all the incredible people I’ve had the blessing of meeting. Thank you for supporting Care Rituals by either your purchase or sharing with friends or following on social media.

No, really. I had to start my life all over again from scratch in my 40’s, working at a warehouse and borrowing money to make ends meet was rough. Although this company has technically been around for a long time, I have only been able to do this full-time these last few years.

When I first started it was only online through Etsy but when I had to pack my bags and move out to the country to tend to a dying family member, the Etsy algorithm did not treat me fairly and that halted. It wasn’t until a year or so later that I started making wholesale orders for Thorp Fruit stand. This was monumental for me as I learned what it takes to do those next few steps in business.

Wholesale is one beast but farmers markets is a whole other game. Here’s me catching my first break at a farmers market learning to cut me teeth. This makes me cringe.

Back then I was only selling tea

Oh wow, look at those star glitter bits. What a fun mistake. Those followed me around in my travel equipment for a solid year. But hey, it was magical and kinda fun to see a random star show-up somewhere. And that banner flag. I did not know what I was doing but it worked!

Yes, it was hard to wake up early, get to market, and set up and sell all day, then tear everything down and do it again. Making products and sourcing more events was my life. I got the high of market. Meeting people, getting to know my community, learning from other vendors - I knew this was something special and I loved it. But my body couldn’t quite handle doing it all alone so I needed to get help quickly.

Along comes this incredibly ‘interesting’ fellah willing to work for a dream. You might’ve met him. He’s no longer with Care Rituals but I do greatly appreciate all the dedication and efforts he made.

Gobble Up NW was intense, even in that older building in 2023. They moved to a brighter location in 2024 which was amazing.

Then there were all the costumed events which were an intensely fun part of the job. It started with the Halloween stuff but did not stop there.

OMSI After Dark is 21+ events which are incredibly fun, especially for introverted nerds.

But let’s not forget the weekend faires!

An excuse to wear a costume and play a role in public? Yes!

Ah, look at those time-traveling magic makers. 🙂 Honestly though, if you haven’t been out to enjoy festivals, please do so. Consider this your official invitation to play. Realms Unknown

Realms Unkown is a newer event that merges various genres with various portals to play with, making it incredibly fun. I saw Gobblins take a 5’ turtle to make soup. There was also a giant who hunted fairy children with a net. Mermaids were swimming in the pond. Not to mention the headliner musicians on several stages that flew in to perform. We’ll be there again this year.

Dreams start small

To think that it all started in my small one-bedroom apartment is incredible. I know it’s possible, even still to this day and age, because I DID IT!

As things started to work and grow, I was able to scale up and move into a commercial kitchen and get ODA approval. That took a long time due to the dept of Agriculture being understaffed, which nearly killed my business!! What total red-tape BS.

But my determination wouldn’t let it go and I managed to scrape by. Let’s just say the pawn shop knows me by name. Phew!

Too legit. Yeah, I know how to spell 😅 

What else? Oh right. Care Rituals line is now found in a few stores. Hopewell Hub is an adorable spot in the tiny town of Hopewell. It’s on a backroad in wine country between Salem and Hillsboro. They have almost everything I have available if you’re out in that neck of the woods. Hopewell also has freshly made soups, a cafe, lots of ceramics, and offers classes.

You might not have seen the updated booth. I started with a blue flag, then made a banner but the script was too difficult to read. Next was a massive banner that was printed too large that would drag on the ground. Yes, I make mistakes but they’re mine to make. You get to watch this whole little business grow!

So I needed to get approval for my next banner.

I’m happy to report we have a new booth theme by the end of 2024. The inspiration came from our origin story from the Seven Sisters. That story is written on the website about page. https://carerituals.com/pages/about
