Aaaahhhh, boy did we need a little getaway!

Bing and I planned a trip to Italy and I thought it would be fun to share our itinerary and some of my finds - and they are some good ones :)

Here we go!

Monday, September 15

Living up in Harbor Springs means we have tough airport choices - ha!  We took an early morning fight from Traverse City ( 1.5 hours drive) to Chicago where we then caught a flight directly to Nice.  We ALMOST didn't make that connection! In fact, we ran 1/2 mile through the airport to get to a VERY crowded nonsensical  boarding area - it was nuts.

Anyhoo, we landed in Nice and we wanted to get to our destination  - Monaco!- asap, so we took a helicopter!  This was my first time on a helicopter, so I was kinda scared. It was a five minute ride and it was magical flying right over the Ligurian Sea.  

We arrived in Monaco and met up with some friends from home who had just arrived that day as well. It truly is the land of the beautiful people, a magical fairy tale city on the sea.

Monaco is a special place for Bing because he LOVES LOVES LOVES Formula 1 and he LOVES boats too - so to see that track in person, and all of the incredible yachts in the harbor - well, he just loved it. 

Anyhoo, after dinner, we went to the Le Casino de Monte Carlo which was SO much fun.  It is the MOST beautiful building you have ever seen - just gorgeous.  It's certainly not like a Vegas casino....it was not crowded and the people were dressed beautifully. We didn't win a DIME, but that's ok.

Since Grace Kelly is one of my ALL-TIME favorites it was fun to walk in the park and see her statue and get a close enough view of the palace where she lived. She really was so beautiful with such style and grace - her parent's named her properly.

Next stop was Portofino and OMG was it gorgeous.  We hiked around looking at all the beautiful buildings and churches - it never gets old. We had been in Portofino 19 years ago for our anniversary, and back then we stayed at the Splendido where we ended up having dinner that night. It is as beautiful as ever with the most beautiful views.

After that, we visited some tiny little towns in the Cinque Terre like Riomaggiore, Corniglia, and Vernazza where we muscled through the cruise ship crowds.  It was worth it though because these tiny little towns have really remained the same over so many years.  Some of them didn't have proper roads so Lord knows how these people even get a COUCH up these stairs and into their flats.  Don't ask me.

We ended up going to Santa Margherita and walked the most beautiful walk all they way back into Portofino.  That was REALLY fun because the there was so much to see from cute hotels to the MOST beautiful beach clubs you have EVER seen.  Those are now on our must-do list.  FANCY :)

Last stop was to get off in Genoa and drive to Milan.  That is really the way to go. We rented a car for $85 BUCKS and dropped it right in the heart of Milan.

BUUUUUUTTT...we did make a pitstop at the designer outlet mall  - of course.  It was AMAZING - I mean the stores in there were the best of the best. It was a good thing that we arrived just as it opened because LINES formed outside of Gucci, Valentino etc etc. 

Our first stop was Gucci not only because it was right at the entrance, but I love the brand. Do I have a lot of Gucci? No, but I do love it and the pieces that I do own :). Fun fact....the night I met Bing at Butch McGuires, he was wearing his trusty Gucci loafers that he still has TODAY.  He's a Gucci loafer and Belgian loafer guy...so he was happy to visit.

I didn't REALLY expect to buy anything unless I found something I LOVED on the spot (remember when it is a hell yes, you buy it).  I ended up finding the most FUN pair of greenish platform loafers, a pair of beige slingbacks (totally me), a classic tote bag and a dress.   I almost started crying because as Bing said, "these were made for you".  Sigh.

We ended up shopping around a bit more (even though I was content) because we wanted to find a nice jacket - like a puffer - for Bing.  He IMMEDIATELY said YES when he saw this great jacket at the Moncler store.  Sold.

My other must-stop store was Missoni. I love Missoni (picture on tandem here).  I've had the same Missoni skirt for YEARS and every time I wear it, people compliment me. It's beautiful. I did manage to find a gorgeous blazer (similar HERE) that I am obsessed with  :)

The thing about outlet shopping is that you have to be strategic.  Many store create "lower" lines specifically for the outlet stores.  That's not the stuff you want. You want the items that are moved from the brand's main stores here when they didn't sell.  That means there will be few sizes and a smaller selection that what you would see if you hit the store on Madison Ave.

The other thing is this; outlet shopping is great to find a bargain, yes, but it is also for people who love a particular brand and want to buy classic pieces at that discounted prices.  If you are someone who loves the newest, latest and greatest, then outlet shopping is not for you.  They're not going to carry this year's "it" bag or popular shoe, so if that's what you are after, then skip the trip.  I happen to be someone who collects classic pieces from designers I love and I couldn't care LESS how many seasons old they are. In fact, I PREFER to buy things that aren't current so that when I walk into a party, I'm the only one wearing that dress :). It really just depends on what kind of shopper you are.  Me - classics at a bargain price?  YES.

Walking around Milan was great, but there were protests and it was just before Fashion Week, so the city was nuts. I did manage to hit some of my favorite spots - affordable spots - like Zara, Mango, (this is the sweater I got) and Maje - I love those stores.  And, after spending some money at Gucci, I felt at home buying great pair of boots for $179 bucks :)

Last stop was the Armani Hotel where we stayed just that one night. It was lovely and in a perfect location.  Diner was at the beautiful bar at the Portrait Hotel, which was magical. It was exactly what we needed - a margarita (I know, random but the guy made a great one) and a burger.  We loved it.

Off to Chicago straight from Milan - 8.5 hours and I never stood up once. I know, I know...that sounds crazy, but I went to the restroom right in the beginning and found myself happy to work, play solitaire and watch movies the entire time.  Frankly, it was awesome :)

After being up for 23 hours straight, we finally got in our beds at 12:30 EST right here in Harbor Springs.  Took a few days to get back to normal, but boy was it worth it.

So, there you have it!  It was a great trip and I’m going back :)

Shipping our girls off to NYC to start their new lives felt......different. 

When we dropped them at college, we always knew they'd be coming back for long vacations. We knew we could visit them and see all their pals....we knew where they were and that they were pretty safe.

Dropping them in NYC for LIFE was weird because we know we'll see them less. They'll have weekends with us here and there, but their vacation time will be SO much less which means less guaranteed time with them. So weird.

This drop-off also felt kinda sad, to be honest.  With Billy, he stayed in Dallas and didn't require us to actually move him in, so it seemed like that transition was easier. BUT, he doesn't come home much either :( and the more I think about it, the more sad I feel knowing that HIS life started two years ago! I guess I'm still getting used to it.

Anyhoo, the trip was FUN and funny and eye-opening all at the same time. It started off with the girls laying out ALL their clothes on a tarp in the garage. (Don’t ask….we had just gotten their stuff out of storage.) They were playing "Hamilton" loudly and having fun being together for one of their last times as "roommates". (See the video HERE).  In their first 8 years of life they were roommates (after being womb-mates) at two different homes in LA.  When we moved to Boulder, they had their own room and that was a BIG deal.  They spent a LOT of time in own rooms, but often times, I'd find them laying on the other one's bed just watching a show or catching up :)

Soooo…..we put EVERYTHING into a U-Haul trailer that turned out to be pretty necessary because there would have been little to NO room in the car with four of us - even with a rooftop carrier!

Managing and maneuvering that thing on the freeway was SCARY.  One quick move and we all could have gone right over.  I learned to manage it, but for the most part, Bing drove. (I think that was the safer option 🙂 )

Arriving on the Lower East Side of Manhattan was HILARIOUS.  Thank goodness it was a Saturday! The streets were manageable since most people leave the city in the summer. We unloaded the trailer and hauled out all of Paige’s stuff first. We could then put Libby’s things in the car and Bing drove to Queens to drop off the damn Uhaul. What a relief.

We saw Paige's apartment and my heart sank. While it is nice and newer, it is a 5th (more like 6) floor walk-up, four bedroom (if you can call them that) and ONE bath - OMG!  Libby, having never spent much time in NYC, looked a little bit like a deer in headlights.  Her sister was moving into THIS?  The only thing on her mind was, "What in the world is MY apartment going to look like?”

On another note, can we talk about Facebook Marketplace for a second?  You can get ANYTHING on there and everything is SO close by, so it was easy.  HIGHLY recommend buying ANY furniture on there.  We bought THIS BED for her (on Facebook) because it has drawers underneath which was PERFECT. The guy selling the bed clearly bought it off Facebook for cheap and then was selling it for MORE by including delivery and assembly.  That was GENIUS - so much so that we did the SAME thing for Libby.  Paige doesn't have a CLOSET (!), so we got THIS RACK for her. It was sturdy and decent-looking at the same time.  We found a perfectly sized dresser and night stand (also Facebook) and with that, her room was complete!

I'm a mom (obvi), but I also do people's closets all the time, so I have a few tricks that I was forcing them to adhere to.  First of all, they had to fold their t-shirts etc. in the "Marie Kondo" style, where they roll them and place them in drawers so you can SEE them.  We folded their pants and jeans so there was a proper crease down the legs - that took a few times - haha. We also folded sweaters in my "triangle" fold so that the sweater has way less wrinkles.  It took them a minute to understand how important it is to fold efficiently in order to save space and not look like a wrinkled mess.

Next stop was the Carlyle Hotel.  OMG - that place NEVER gets old. It's Heaven on earth, that's for sure. 

We went to Bemelmans Bar for a tiny 'tini and a burger all while listening to the fabulous piano player playing Billy Joes (Libby's all-time fav).  It was magical because they got to see what a "goals' evening out in NYC would be.  They LOVED it and hadn't been there since they were probably 9. I had taken them for tea when I worked for Oscar de la Renta. Side note, check out this picture of them with Oscar. So special.

Next stop was Libby's new place, only......the lease was not signed.  That whole process is a RACKET and I mean a RACKET.  We had to be guarantors for the rent (rip off) without even having stepped foot in the apartment. Once we wrapped that up after getting a notary via zoom (!?) we starting up the stairs to her 4th floor walk-up. I've never gotten so many steps in in all my life :).  Libby’s new apartment is in the East Village.  It's BEAUTIFUL, but beyond tiny - like crazy tiny. (See video above).  We spent much of the day with the bed guy and putting away all the stuff she needed for work (the next day!).  Her room is about the same as Paige's...which again is not much.  I'm fascinated that these kids want to live in this section of Manhattan that is kinda dirty and MAJORLY over-priced.  But, that's what they want to do and if they can afford it (with a little help from us) then that's what they're going to do.

We managed to get in SOME shopping around town. We had the most fun at Zara, of course, because you can get anything there and the price is right...and so is the quality, honestly.  You can see all my finds HERE.  So far, y'all have loved THIS DRESS the most.  It's amazing.

Later, we walked around Bryant Park which is close to Libby's office.  Since Libby has not spent much time in NYC, we walked her from her apartment (on Sunday) to her subway stop, rode the subway two stops and landed at her office. We were happy to do that so we could get her used to her new route :). We ate lunch at Pura Vida which was DELICIOUS and healthy.  That place is a MUST for anyone in NYC.

Lucky for us, Paige had been in NYC for a month, so she's got it all down.  Her office was closed, but we managed to see the location which is gorgeous - Upper East Side - of course it is. :). Took a trip to Butterfield Market to get a scone and just see the beautiful display of fruits and veggies - unlike anything I've ever seen in a grocery store.

After that, we were SO excited to join or Boulder BFF's at their Lowe's Hotel suite that they had for a couple of weeks. It was SO beautiful.  We ate at Uva on the UES which was delish - highly recommend.

After all that….it was time to say adios.  Again, it was bittersweet. I'm glad that they are launched and I'm SO glad that we were there to help them get settled. It's going to be a change for ALL of us, but I know we're going to survive just fine (tissues please).

The ride home felt quiet and long.....but of course my McDonalds meal helped out as well as some peanut M&M's and Mel Brooks’ memoir “All About Me” - super fun to hear him narrate.

So, there you have it.  REAL empty-nesting has begun. Three launched and Bo in his second year at UVA.  At least I've still got him....kinda 

I’m not kidding… I blinked and suddenly it’s late August. How?? Summer’s basically in the rearview and I don’t know if I’m quite ready for the change!

No matter WHAT season it is, my one go-to is……

The button down shirt. Yep!

The reason I love a good button down is because it’s super versatile and always flattering. It’s a GREAT basic too, that anyone can wear. I’m styling my go-to’s in a few different ways to give you a little inspo. Happy reading!

My Favorite Button‑Downs That I Wear Like It’s My Job

When I find a great button down, it gets so much wear. I’ve been living in my J.McLaughlin, H&M and Z Supply shirts all summer and as we head into Fall, I’ll be wearing them, but in different ways.  You all know that I’m not brand-conscious and I do love a bargain, so most of my button-downs are in a variety of price ranges.  

Stripe Oversized Button‑Down
So…slightly oversized with a drop shoulder—for that relaxed, lived‑in chic. Super on-trend right now but also so flattering when you pair it with something slim on the bottom - think straight jeans, a skirt, shorts  or tied over a dress. I love THIS ONE and THIS ONE.

• The “Go‑To” White Staple
  Here’s the thing…a white button down comes in a variety of shapes and fabrics for all different occasions.  I’m wearing cotton or linen (even if it’s wrinkled) with denim shorts (see video) for a casual feel or a nice stretch cotton blend when I need to look a little more pulled together.  For a slim fit, I like THIS ONE  If you like a little ruffle collar, try THIS ONE.
  

• Gauzy Lightweight Beauty (<$40!)
  100% cotton, breezy, relaxed fit and SOOOO chic. My first choice on this is white, but that’s only because that’s kinda my uniform :)  I have THIS ONE but these are a great price HERE and HERE.
  

• Linen Button‑Down (Under $50)
  Linen isn’t always EASY.  Some people can NOT handle the wrinkles while others WANT the wrinkled look to compliment their easy, breezy personal style. If the “lived in” look is for you, then linen is your BFF. Found this awesome NAVY BLUE as well as a classic white HERE.

• Classic Cotton Option (Investments)
  I happen to LOVE a fitted, cotton option whether I tuck it in or leave it hanging out.  It’s all in personal preference and the cut of the shirt. This STRIPED ONE is great and I love the sleeves on THIS ONE.

Here are a few ways I am styling my fav denim shorts as well as some great transitional button downs that will be great for fall!

My Go‑To Tips for Styling Button‑Downs

There are zero hard fashion rules when it comes to button down shirts. But, I do have a few tips that might help you style your fav just right. Check out how ladies on the street are styling THEIR button downs below.)

1. Proportion
   If you’re wearing an oversized top, consider wearing something more slim on the bottom. On the other hand, if the button down is more slim, this is your chance to wear wide legs jeans or a pleated trouser. Try THIS CUTE ONE for a flattering oversized look or THIS or THIS.
   

2. Layer!!
   As we head into Fall, layering is your BFF.  If you’re going to put on a button down, think about wearing a tank top underneath and leave the button down open and hanging out - kinda like it’s a jacket. (I did that HERE).  When you are wearing it as a more tailored look, then pop a sweater over your shoulders or put it on right over the shirt - easy.  For a very polished look, a button down under a blazer is just perfection because if you take the jacket off, you’re wearing a great top that is office-appropriate and just plain great looking. (If you are part of the ‘over-heaters anonymous club, THIS BLAZER COMBO is for YOU). Love this OLD SCHOOL one and THIS for fun.  Layer with a great SWEATER or a great BLAZER.

   
    

3. Max Out the Accessories
   I’m famous for a popped collar. Yep!  As long as the collar is not too big, I pop it right up and wear my hair back in THIS BARRETTE (I have an old one from Anthro).

   I also like a collar that lays kinda flat like THIS - that’s SUPER flattering and a bit of a more “sexy” look.

   Wearing a button down is a GREAT time to put on that jewelry! I love a CHUNKY BEAD NECKLACE or a dainty AFFORDABLE CHAIN or this FANCY ONE (obsessed)  when I’m super casual. 

   
   I don’t often wear big earrings with a button down because they kinda just get in the way :) I prefer something like THESE or THESE (old school).
   
   Y’all know my other famous look is to ROLL THE SLEEVES!  I don’t mean a proper folded roll, I mean a messy slouchy roll above my elbows.  Did you know that rolling sleeves that high will give the illusion that you’re taller than you are? Yep, it’s true!  When you’re all rolled up, throw on a STACK OF BRACELETS (I own this) - super chic.  You can just do SO much with hair and jewelry to give the same ole shirt a different look each time.

Outfit Ideas You Need in Your Life

• Casual + Dressy Mix
  With a STRIPED BUTTON DOWN and a SLIP DRESS, or a COOL FLORAL (think Oscar de la Renta) with a PERFECT WHITE SHIRT.

• Effortless Summer Vibe
  Pair that gauzy top with flowy pants, turquoise jewelry, simple sandals, and a laid‑back tote. Breezy, chic, and season‑ready.
  

• Workday with a Twist
  Swap your white tee for an easy SILK BUTTON button down under a PERFECT BLAZER, GREAT JEANS, and a KITTEN HEEL. Sharp yet soft—day‑to‑night ready.
  

• Classic Americana Layered Moment
   BLUE STRIPED SHIRT, DENIM MINI SKIRT, a COZY SWEATER draped over your shoulders, SUNNIES, and some cute LITTLE FLATS. Preppy with an edge.

Facts & Rule of Thumb

Fact: Button‑downs are your wardrobe savior. Dressy or casual, they go wherever you need ’em and they go with just about anything in your closet.  They can be in any price range and be fab. Button downs are endlessly stylish, and incredibly versatile….that’s why they are my #1 uniform basic :)

Rule of Thumb: You can go for the oversized or tailored look - just make sure you balance it out with what you are wearing on the bottom.. Tuck, layer, and accessorize to make this wardrobe staple look like the everyday chic gal that you are :)

Today I’m breaking down how to make them work for you.

I’m styling my go-to pair in a few different ways to give you a little inspo. Whether you’ve already got a pair that you don’t know how to wear or you're eyeing them skeptically in your cart, this one’s for you.

The #1 Complaint: "I'm too short!"

Nope. Not true. Not even a little bit.

No one—and I mean no one—is too short for cropped wide-leg jeans. The key is proportion.

If you're under 5'4", you need to shop in the petite section OR visit your BFF - your tailor. I’m 5'6" and wear a “regular” inseam. (See what I mean HERE from Madewell). If you are under 5’4, I suggest the “petite” choice. If you are over 5’8, you might want to try the “tall” option.

Also: don’t be afraid of a little heel. More on that below…

Complaint #2: "They make my legs look stubby!"

I’ve heard this one many times before…..for sure… :)

If the inseam and the rise are correct, then cropped wide-legs can actually LENGTHEN your legs!  Here’s a good tip - cropped wide leg flare should NOT be hitting your instep (the top of your foot). That’ll shorten your legs for sure.

Instead, you want them to hit that magical mid-ankle zone (think Audrey Hepburn)—where your leg starts to narrow and show a little skin. That flash of ankle elongates everything.

Pro tip: Measure the inseam and rise of your favorite pants and use that as your North Star. Write them down or enter that info into your “notes app” so that you have that information on-hand anytime you are shopping.

On that note, don’t just order one pair. This is a skittles situation.  Grab a handful and only eat (or in this case wear) that works for you.  By the way, every brand lists the item’s measurements on a product listing, so use those measurements to get the right fit for you based on the measurements you took

So... What Shoes Actually Work?

Short answer: almost all of them.

Long answer:

• Flat sandals? Yes. Just make sure your jeans are hitting the right spot at or above the ankle. Great pair HERE
  

• Neutral flats? Ideal—especially in tones close to your skin. Instant leg-lengthener. Shop THESE
  

• Colorful shoes? Totally! I like to have a little heel so the shoes doesn’t chop off my legs Love THESE & THESE

• Heels? ABSOLUTELY. Game-changer. Cropped wide-legs with a heel in the evening is super chic. Check out these new clogs - yes!! (see other options below)
  

Not sure which heel? Try a cute Mary Jane, a bold-style pump, or an open-toe sandal. Let’s skip the basic black (remember this blog post on black shoes?) unless it is patent leather :)

TL;DR: Here’s What Matters Most

• Buy the right inseam -measure before purchasing!
  

• Show that ankle—just a little leg-lengthener for you
  

• Try different shoes—yes, even the fun ones
  

• Don’t overthink the top—slim tee or a button down - tucked in
  

• Order multiple pairs and find your fave - try it before you buy it

It really doesn’t matter WHAT your body type is.  Cropped wide leg jeans work on everyone as long as the fit is just right.  This style takes some getting used to, but you got this!

Kate Middleton is poised not only in her posture (no cellphone hunchback) but in her presence.

Has she evolved since her pre-princess days? Absolutely. But haven’t we all? I mean, show me one person who doesn’t cringe at their high school yearbook photo. (Mine involved a perm and a the typical 80’s fashion). Kate’s glow-up is subtle but strategic because it has to be. She didn’t reinvent herself—she refined herself with age and the job.

Kate got the memo - the tailor is your friend.  Her clothes fit like they were made for her... and some of them probably were.  But, there’s no extra bulk or weird volume to the pieces - just refined elegance.  She NEVER fell for the “Little House on the Prairie” look - it’s WAY too voluminous for her.  She’s in slim, sleek dresses - always.

• Choose pieces that fit your body and befriend your local tailor.

I am fully in my Marge Sherwood era and honestly….that’s AOK with me. Gwyneth Paltrow's character in The Talented Mr. Ripley has been on my mind lately since we recently watched the movie.

It’s those tailored dresses…a square-neck eyelet top…that leopard coat with the pillbox hat….Jackie-O was right there with her.  It’s fashion worn with confidence — not trendy, cheap junk that gives off cheeseball vibes :)

There’s something about a good white eyelet dress that feels like summer and looks so classic. These two options nail it: square or V neckline, puffed sleeves, slim bodice - nothing too poofy!. Let me just say this up front: black shoes are the LAST thing you should be wearing!

Okay okay, I take that back. I do wear black patent leather heels—but only in fall or winter, and usually only with a black dress or black long pants. But black calf leather? In any season? HARD pass. And I have never—not once in my shoe-loving life—owned a pair of black sandals. With or without a heel.

Here’s why:

1️⃣ Black Shoes Chop Your Off Legs

Black sandals and pumps are just... not flattering - in general.

They break up your leg line and chop it off right at the ankle, making your legs look shorter. Who wants their legs to appear short and stubby? No one I know!

2️⃣ Black Shoes Weigh You Down

Black shoes are heavy. Not physically (although some loafers might be a workout 🤪), but visually. They can drag down your entire look, especially black calf leather pumps. They’re like an anchor pulling your style to the bottom of the ocean. Want to look light on your feet and feel that you have to wear black? Then, make it patent leather. A little shine makes a big difference.

3️⃣ Black Shoes Draw Attention to Your Feet and don’t FLATTER your legs.

Unless you’re a foot model, that’s probably not the body part you want to spotlight. Big foot, small foot, bunion or baby toe—a black calf pump is screaming “look down here!”
What is you have BIG FEET? I know - you feel like a black shoe will make them appear smaller. Sure, that can be true, but what’s more the ISSUE is the style of shoe you are choosing (that’s for another post). So, don’t just choose black because you think it is your only option. Opt for another STYLE to make those big flippers appear smaller.

“So, what am I supposed to do?” I’m glad you asked!

✨ NEUTRALS

I know, I know….beige is so boring! BUT, it is a fact that a neutral shoe will ALWAYS elongate your legs, give you a clean line and let your OUTFIT and legs (not your shoe) do that talking. Any soft, natural shade that blends with your skin will give the appearance of having a longer and leaner leg.

Personally, I love a beige patent leather pump because it works with almost every dress I own. In fact, I’m such a neutral shoe fan that I OFTEN wear a nude patent leather pump or sandal with a black dress - yes - a black dress.

💡 Want Color? Let’s discuss….

You LOVE pink and your new dress would look GREAT with a cute pink shoe. Go for it -if the shade of pink you chose flatters the undertones of your skin. Does hot pink work for your skin tone or are you better in a soft pink? The same theory goes for what you wear near your face and what you wear on your feet. The shade that most compliments your skin tone will compliment your legs and not take away from your beautiful dress.

🐆Fan of animal prints or florals?? GO FOR IT!

Let’s say you choose a leopard print shoe - be sure that the shade of the print (and the cut of the shoe) will compliment your look (let’s say a plain black dress) and enhance the shape of your leg. I always recommend my clients to stick to a more muted print like a snake skin print vs a very bold leopard print. BUT, animal print shoes are FUN so just make sure that when you look in the mirror, you. If you feel that the shade of animal print you chose flatters your leg then by all means, GO FOR IT!

The same holds true with a floral or polka dot shoe. If the shade is complimentary, wear ‘em. Just keep in mind that when you wear a wild and fun shoes….you are really making that shoe the star of the outfit. In this case the outfit is the neutral.

🪩Metallic Shoes?

YES! If you feel that a metallic shoe will compliment your outfit, please wear them! Gold and silver are really a NEUTRAL. That might sound weird, but it’s true.

Here’s the trick: you need to know WHICH ONE is complimentary to your skin tone. Some people look MUCH better in gold than they do silver and vice versa. When I wear a gold shoe, it works with my skin tone and absolutely elongates my legs. I tend to wear a silver shoe with pants because for ME, it’s not as much of a neutral as the gold is.

At the end of the day guys, the same holds true with dressing in GENERAL. You want your best asset to be the focus (that’s for another post). But, if your legs ARE your best part, then wear what you love because chance are, the shoe will draw attention to your legs - and you want that!

• ❌ Black sandals? Nope. Too harsh when it is sandal weather.

Howdy folks!  Yes, it’s true.  I LOVE leopard.  I don’t care WHAT it is.  I have dresses, pants, coats, shirts, t-shirts and shoes – all in a leopard print.  It’s a neutral as far as I’m concerned I love this one by ZARA that I bought last year.  I wish they still carried it, but no such luck.  So, I searched online to find some cuties (see below) that would do just as well with FLATS or with a COLORFUL Mule.   Give LEOPARD some love – you won’t be sorry!

Tonight is the NIGHT!  I have been BINGEING (no, not BINGING – ha!) my favorite show (next to The Crown) for the last few weeks in anticipation for this movie release.  Then it happened! I saw the photos from the premiere with Elizabeth McGovern in this Zac Posen dress (see below),  I just about DIED.  I am obsessed and ONE DAY, I must have it.  In the meantime, I did find a cute pinky for now to cure my craving and frankly, the price is right!  Click away!

You heard it!  I’m still wearing WHITE and I’ll continue to wear white for weeks to come because I think it looks so chic!  White jeans, a boot and a sweater – what could be better than that?  More on that to come…..The night we went to see the Downton Abbey movie (loved it), I wore this late summer/pre fall outfit.  I’m obsessed with the look and feel of these Rails plaid shirts.  They’re SUPER soft and VERY flattering.  This colorway will also look cute with a dark jean and a bootie.  These clogs are by Rachel Comey.……I’ve searched BEYOND for the exact pair, but they are sold out EVERYWHERE.  If you are in LOVE with them, check out Poshmark, Ebay or The RealReal.  I’ve seen them on those sites, but sizes are limited.  The other two options posted are both VERY COMFORTABLE and realllly cute. Oh!  And, the beautiful stack of bracelets!?!?!  Those are handmade by a good friend of ours, Michelle Gamble.  She has a beautiful collection of pieces that she makes at her store in Harbor Springs, Michigan.   You can find her on INSTA here: Twin_sisters_jewelry . In 2018, this picture was a little INSPO for me, so much so that I saved it on my phone until TODAY.  First of all, to me, this hair = GOALS.  It just looks so perfect…sigh….even if it might be all extensions…oh well! Anyhoo, the second reason I loved this post is because of that damn corduroy jacket!  It brings back memories of my teenage years.  I must have had one, but I can’t recall entirely.   I can remember every Brady Bunch episode, but other details in life…..not so much.

Yesterday, I went for a spin through H&M and I found THIS BABY!  How CUTE is that?? It is a GREAT fit and of course, a GREAT PRICE.  Here’s the problem….when I went to find it online to post the pic….I couldn’t find it.  SO, you MUST RUN to your closest H&M and buy this jacket.  It also comes in off-white, which was kinda fancy-looking I found the original Stella McCartney blazer from above and funnily enough, it also comes in this same beige.  It’s from last year, so it is ON SALE.  Sizes are limited, so if you’d rather spend the big bucks, buy the Stella.  Also, click on the WORLD’S best jeans by Mother.  I’ll be posting them in other colors because they really are the best.  Also, a pop of leopard as per usual….

Forget those – get these!

Ok folks…..So many of you LOVED the damn pink snakeskin clogs, but unfortunately, they are sold out . I came upon THESE BABIES and now I’m thinking we need to forget about the clogs and move on to these BOOTS! I ordered mine!

  The details on this black top are amazing.  (Don’t mind my fireplace on the side ;0 ) It looks really EXPENSIVE.  The fit is pretty TTS.  I’m wearing an XS.  Because I’m long-waisted, it is a tiny bit short on me….sogood thing I’m wearing a bit of a higher waisted jean.  This pair is by MOTHER – there isn’t much to say other than they fit like a glove.  They’re also amazing because you can wear with flats, a low heel or even a bootie or high heel.  I’m telling you – skinny-leg-maker

My little mules came from ZARA.  I don’t have the link here, but I did find these other GREAT options.  They are PERFECT for Fall…..or at least until the snow starts falling in Boulder – HA!The earrings I’m wearing  SOLD OUT by the tie I put this up!!!  Sorry about that, BUT, these other two options are super cute.  I love the color with the all-black outfit. This bag…….I pictured it in another post because it REALLY is nice and looks SUPER EXPENSIVE.  It reminds me of the CELINE that is super $$.  Seriously, I love this bag.  Anyhoozie-waatzie……I’m not a HUGE wearer of black clothing.  But, since I found this top, I may change my ways….ya know, shake it up a bit.   Click below to get these babies.

Oh my gosh….Those of you who really KNOW ME know that I’m not that outdoorsy.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m athletic, but the biking, hiking, skiing…..not so much I was in Aspen recently and we did a 6 mile bike ride (E bike – yessss) to a restaurant.  I was dressed for a casual dinner – mountain style!   I had on the CUTEST shirt from TUCKERNUCK.com, my fav AG JEANS and the absolute MOST COMFORTABLE, cutest sneakers with the slightest built-in wedge.  TRUST THE MOTHER – these sneaks are the best.  SUPER comfortable and AFFORDABLE.  A must.  I also paired the shirt with ?LEVI’S and this cutie-patootie white high heel MULE.   I gotta say – these make any boring outfit look SUPER cute.  The best part….they’re WHITE and OH, how I LOVE white ;0

My next outdoor-out-of-my-comfort-zone-adventure was a hike 2.5 miles straight up to 12,000 feet.  OMG.  I wore my SUPER lightweight, easy to pack and fitted ATHLETA down jacket.  It’s not too puffy and not too thin – it’s just right. (Just like Golidlocks said!) I was able to take it on and off and stuff it in my bag.  And, yes, I was in fact sporting a back pack.  It was a PATAGONIA backpack, which made me feel REALLY outdoorsy . The one thing that saved me were these HOKA sneakers.  They weren’t formal HIKNG BOOTS, but they felt pretty stable climbing up and down the damn rocks.  Not sure if I’m totally cut out for it, but in celebration of my pal, Tory, I did it!!  Woo hoo!!!!   Ha!

Oh how I love pink…..I really do.  For starters, it  looks great on everyone.  I’m mean, think about it, who really does NOT look good in some shade of pink?  This baby is another find from Anthropologie.  I’m obsessed with the fit of this thing.  I did the trusty “side tuck” in this pic, but you could also wear it hanging over skinny jeans on a “fat” day!  I have worn mine with my LEOPARD pants and the combo just PUUUURRRFECT
