Bryson takes home a major!

We’ve reported on Bryson DeChambeau for a while.

Yes, he went to LIV. Yes, he once wasn’t viewed in a positive light by most in the golf community.

But he’s worked tirelessly over the past couple of years to refine his game and his image. And people are beginning to take notice of the showmanship and talent Bryson exhibits.

Now, he’s backed up the image with a major victory at Pinehurst #2.

This U.S. Open was an epic battle which came down between Rory and Bryson. Then, the last 5-hole-stretch which Rory had all but won.

It was the back nine where both players floundered, but Bryson rebounded in just the nick of time to pull out the victory.

And now why we feel Bryson’s renewed image is important (and why it’s happening).

Bryson started a popular YouTube channel, which is bringing younger people into the fold. He also has become a man of the people.

Remember Valhalla?

Bryson came in 2nd to Xander Shauffele. Of course he was disappointed, but he (of course) congratulated Xander on his victory.

Now, we contrast this with Rory McIlroy.

In the past 4-8 weeks, Rory has been in the news — positively and negatively.

• Flip-flopping on LIV

• News of a split with his wife

• Multiple wins on tour

• Calling off the divorce

Life, right? We actively try to avoid the personal lives of golfers, unless it’s the world #1 getting arrested.

So what are we focused on? Bryson’s stand-up attitude, and Rory’s unfortunate reaction to placing 2nd.

Rory, left immediately after the final round. Threw his clubs in his club-provided car and left — Literally moments after losing to DeChambeau by one stroke.

We honestly hate to see it. Easy Pars also hopes he can cement his image (and legacy) within the next couple of years.

Taking a look at Bryson may be a good start. Just watch this video (he was greeting fans every single day. His priorities and swing are locked in (even if the swing is funny-looking).

You should be. The PGA pros are treating it like a major. Don’t believe us, just look at the leaderboard after day one of play.

From Scheffler to Schauffele. Morikawa to McIlroy.

The big names you expect to do well… well, they’re almost all doing well.

There are also the up-and-coming stars, like Akshay Bhatia, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland, and rookie-turned-pro Nick Dunlap.

You know it’s a stacked field when we haven’t even mentioned Tommy Fleetwood’s in the top 10.

Obviously, there’s a lot of golf left to play, but so far this is a tournament to watch.

YouTuber makes a hole-in-one. Here’s why it matters

Robby Berger, or Bob of “Bob Does Sports” is not a pro golfer. Him, Joey ColdCuts, and Fat Perez go around playing with the top names and doing hilarious food challenges on the course.

Mostly, they play scramble.

Here’s why it matters.

Just over 9 million people watched the Sunday round of the Masters. FAR fewer are likely tuning into the Memorial Tournament.

Bob Does Sports?

They’re logging nearly 2 million views a week — each and every week.

Just in the last 30 days, the channel has nearly 7 million views (according to a YT tool, called SocialBlade)

Golf, shifting as it may be, hasn’t lost steam. That heat’s just going somewhere else.

The best part? It’s not the only caddy story this week.

Paul Emerson was also at the Canadian Open. He’s also not a professional caddy, like the elder Macintyre. In fact, he was just a fan attending the event on Sunday.

Then, C.T. Pan’s caddy, Mike Cowan appeared to be injured. Emerson saw the whole thing, and being the Canadian he is — he offered to help in any way he could.

Pan decided to take him up on the offer. Next thing you know, Emerson is throwing on Cowan’s caddy apron!

She’s being compared to Jon Daly

Last time we covered LPGA Pro, Charlie Hull, it was just announced she’d signed with Malbon (around the same time as Jason Day).

While she hasn’t dawned any parachute pants…yet, she was seen doing something else.

Smoking a cigarette.

Apparently, she’s been trying to quit vaping. And since smoking isn’t allowed nearly as many places as vapes — it was a safer bet for her?

Anyway, it’s gotten her a surprising amount of positive attention from fans — and one phone number 😂.

One shoots an 80, and the other gets their felony charges dropped

Wow.

Yesterday, the likely last turn of Scottie’s arrest happened when Kentucky prosecutors dropped all charges against Scheffler.

Arresting officer, Bryan Gillis, even released a statement.

TBH, it was a great play for him. He has to know a lot of people are itching against police. Then, he had to go and offend a whole lot of people who back the blue by arresting the #1 golfer a few hours before his tee time 😂.

Wild, but we’re glad it’s over. Remember Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines (and those mutton chops)? He may not be so excited. His response was live and in-person, not in a written statement.

Even though one is scot-free (see what we did there), Nelly Korda is still under the proverbial gun.

Could she, like Scheff, be having a bit of a fall under the weight of the pressure (sans the mug shot)?

Well, she shot 80 in her first round of the U.S. Open.

According to her, “Making a 10 on a par 3 will definitely not do you any good at a U.S. Open.”

Scottie’s arrest is the big golf news, unfortunately

Just today, a few new videos emerged just after the incident between Scheffler and the LMPD officer.

One seems to back up eyewitness reports that the officer attempted to break the window of Scottie’s courtesy car.

The other is one where the officer reportedly shows off his pants and injuries from the incident.

Leave it up to the internet to point out potential flaws with the initial police report (just look at the responses in the above X post).

Remember, the officer said his $80 pants were beyond repair.

The officer in question was also penalized for not recording the incident on their body cam. So, the story keeps shifting, from the perspective of the authorities.

Scottie though? Steady as she goes.

“It [charges against Scottie] will either be dismissed, or we’ll go to trial.” — Steve Romines (lawyer representing Scheffler)

At this point, there is zero hope in settling for the LMPD or City of Louisville.

Wanna know how serious this is? Scottie’s lawyer showed up to address the press with some 3-day-old mutton chops growing on the sides of his head. He means business, if you ask us.

They saw their clubs tossed from the plane

Ok, so at least the plane was on the ground, right? Take a look at this video and imagine your bag and clubs — or any other luggage for that matter.

Believe it or not, this is another collegiate golf team! This time it was the East Tennesee State University men’s team.

(Note: If you remember, we wrote a story about a lady’s NCAA team nearly losing all of their luggage, clubs included.)

Delta has since come out and apologized to the team publicly.

They had to, since the ETSU team publicly shared the video from their official team account 😂

Well, for starters he’s almost always in contention, even flirting with the top spots. As the X post below says, he’s been in the top 20 in the past 9 majors — the only player to have that many in a row.

The PGA Championship is underway

Xander Shauffele is off to a phenomenal start after just coming up short at the Wells Fargo Championship.

He just finished his R1 with a bogey-free 62 and is in solo first at -9.

For the record, it’s the only time a player’s shot a 62 at a PGA Championship, the 4th time it’s ever happened at a Major championship. Oh, and Xander is now two of those four times 👀 (source)

That said, he has plenty of golf left.

And plenty of talent not too far off him, including the winner of the Wells Fargo (Rory), and last year’s PGA Champion (Brooks).

Update: Scottie eagled the first hole, by holing out. 

There are also a number of greats toward the bottom of the list. Valhalla is a glove that only fits certain hands, from what it seems.

Tip: The PGA Championship website is great for rewatching golf shots. Not quite as good as the Masters app, but decent.

GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that delights like a wide-open tee shot to a 20 handicap player.

Here’s what we’ve got for you today:

• A place on Mt. LPGA

• Rory looked phenomenal (4X win at Quail Hollow)

• Update on the rivalries

Nelly Korda is one of the best

But sadly — she didn’t clinch the most wins in a row.

Top 10 is never something to balk at, especially after performing at such a high level for months.

Nelly Korda’s cemented her spot in history.

Rocky may have lost the initial bout with Clubber, but it wasn’t the end of the movie. Neither does it seem that Korda is anywhere near finished.

That said, Rose Zhang and Madelene Sagstrom had an epic battle.

Once the second day of play finished, it was clearly a two-woman race, with both ladies at least 10 strokes ahead of the field.

Their dominating lead continued into the final day of play.

Honestly feel bad for Sagstrom. She held the lead for a good bit before falling just short of victory. (It took Rose getting 4 birdies in the last 5, to win by a single stroke!)

Big Golf acts like they wish it was a certain other person in the #2 spot, duking it out for glory.

Here’s a short post-round interview. Our favorite quote, “it felt like match-play…”

Rory was able to clench another victory

Look, Rory has won multiple times this year. His wins are close together, too (like a certain other golfer).

It seems there is some negative stigma and a feeling of him failing to meet expectations in his career. Rory’s honestly destroying this year.

He’s oft in the golf news for things other than his game (the board stuff, being a pro in negotiations with the PIF, etc.) At the Wells Fargo Championship, Rory surged the leaderboard — and didn’t stop — until he won by 5 strokes.

The friendly rivalries didn’t go great for most

In the past couple of issues, we mentioned a potential great angle for the auxiliary Myrtle Beach Classic — Rivalry.

How’d the Bryan Bros, Matt Atkins, and Billy Horschel do?

Both bros cut, and a T46 and T52, respectively for Atkins and Horschel (note: Horschel got a last-minute invite to the Wells Fargo).

Still, we feel the future for YouTube creators and more traditional golf are certain to see increased collaboration. (Especially with the TGL ramping up!)

Tiger Woods is gearing up for a major throwback at Valhalla, where memories of past glories hang as thick as morning fog on the fairways.

He's there early, taking his exemption seriously (we mentioned how reportedly serious in a previous issue).

He’s clearly scouting the terrain ahead of next week's PGA Championship.

The golf legend, who clinched the PGA Championship twice, one of those on this very course, seems to be playing his career like a finely tuned playlist—only the greatest hits.

He’s set on making each appearance count, choosing to swing at the big ones and sparing the rest.

Is Korda downplaying her shot at history?

Remember Rocky III?

You know, where Balboa was getting distracted by the fame, working out at a 5-star hotel lobby?

Meanwhile, Clubber Lang was in a shack doing upside-down situps on a closet rack.

We would love for Nelly Korda to win the Cognizant Founders Cup (starting today), clenching the most-ever consecutive wins in the LPGA.

That said, in regards to her looming chance at history, Korda said:

We love history-making, here at Easy Pars. And hope Korda brings it home.

Big weekend of golf!

Today, we have 3 phenomenal tournaments kicking off: The PGA Wells Fargo, the LPGA Cognizant, and the PGA alternate event - the Myrtle Beach Classic. (Then, we immediately head to Valhalla next week!)

Beginning today, Nelly Korda (as we mentioned) has a chance to go 6-in-a-row for the first time in the LPGA.

In Monday’s issue, we also spoke of the double sibling rivalry, headed into the Classic, which also starts today.

Namely, the rivalries between George Bryan/Matt Atkins and Wesley Bryan/Billy Horschel.

Well, as we thought, these rivalries are clearly fodder for garnering views.

Who was in the press conference pre-tourney? BOTH George Wesley and Matt Atkins together.

Turns out they’re both genuinely nice guys who are good friends! No pre-fight square-up, like Rocky and Clubber, here.

Just wishes for each to play well, and may the best man win.

Unfortunately for Wesley, the counterpart in his rivalry (Horschel) got invited to play in the Wells Fargo. Who can blame him for taking that opportunity?

Update as of writing: Matt Atkins finished R1 with a -2. Currently Wesley Bryan is also at -2, with a few holes to go. George is even par. Billy is 4 over at the Wells Fargo 👀

It’s going to be a good couple of weeks. A shot at history, friendly rivalry, and Tiger in another Major.

Any big names? No, not really.

We skimmed the list pretty hard, but didn’t find one pro that’s often mentioned in Big Golf media. All great golfers, for sure. And there’s something that causes us to believe it will be a well-followed tourney — by a more digital fanbase.

On the list, we did find four very interesting, and oft-mentioned names here at Easy Pars.

Namely, the Bryan Bros, George and Wesley Bryan.

If you remember, we wrote how both George and Wesley are prominent “golf YouTubers” who competed in two different recent tournaments.

• Wesley finished 2nd to Billy Horschel, at the Corales Puntacana.

• George finished 2nd to Matt Atkins at the Q qualifier for the Myrtle Beach Classic (the one happening this week).

And guess what? ALL four players are now playing at the Myrtle Beach Classic!

Even though he didn’t win the qualifier, George got a call from the tournament director. The video below will take you to the exact moment of the video where the call happens.

That’s right! George is in his 2nd ever PGA event. Wesley earned his place, too.

Now, both Bryan Bros have a shot a revenge — even though they have to fight through their own sibling to get it.

And let’s be honest, with the field, it’s possible one of these four players gets hot.

We hope so, because it’ll be good for the game.

Lost clubs almost caused a WD for an entire golf team

Speaking of the golf capital of the world (Myrtle Beach). Ever fly with your clubs?

For pros and college golfers — it’s a regular reality.

But so is lost luggage. Labor shortages and increased travel pressure have caused an increase in lost bags, even though (according to airlines) it remains below 1%.

That said, the women’s NCAA golf team of Little Rock may have skewed that number.

They had 23 bags that didn’t arrive for a tournament when the ladies arrived, including their clothes and clubs.

Thankfully, everyone arrived safely on Saturday. And their clubs? They arrived yesterday, in time for their regional match today.

The interview was fairly standard, explaining how he loves wearing red on Sunday, talking about family, etc.. Tiger looked uncomfortable for a minute when Fallon brought out a few memes of Tiger shaking hands with a tree.

It was a famous image from the Masters, when Tiger shook hands with Verne Lundquist.

McIlroy bags his 25th PGA win

A couple of weeks after announcing he’ll finish his career on the PGA tour (after rumors about a potential move to LIV), Rory is back to prominence in the PGA.

First, it looks like he’ll be back on the board of the new PGA entity.

Now, after this weekend, he has his 25th win on tour — The Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

It’s a team event, and McIlroy paired with Shane Lowry. The team shot 25 under and won in an exciting playoff. Both Rory and Shane took home just over $1.2 million, for the win.

Obviously, since it’s not a “normal” tournament, Rory’s win is scrutinized. Here at Easy Pars, a win is a win.

400 FedEx Cup points and over a million in prize money (for both players) is an exciting victory.

That said, some other takes are hilarious.

Rory liked his win, too. After all, it was his first time playing the Zurich. How’d he celebrate? By joining a Journey cover band and belting “Don’t Stop Believin’” from the stage.

Update on the next generation of great golfers

Last week, we wrote about Charlie Woods (Tiger’s son) attempting to qualify for the U.S. Open.

Wasn’t a great round for Charlie, who ended up with an 86 on the scorecard.

To be fair, only 4 players at this event even broke par. Tough course.

Charlie Woods, the son of the iconic Tiger Woods, has come up short in his first-ever attempt to qualify for the US Open.

We also mentioned Miles Russel. (The 15-year-old who’s already broken some of 🐅’s records.)

He fought hard (and secured) a spot in last week’s Korn Ferry tournament.

Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut. That said, it was a crazy cut line of 7 under par!

Russel was -4 at the end of the second round of play, ultimately getting cut.

The future is bright. Charlie’s sure to eventually take the press coverage of his rounds much better and Miles is set to play in a PGA tournament later this year.

About 9.5 million people watched the Masters.

It happens once per year. We talked about ratings last week.

Over the last 10 days, just over 5 million people watched 10 of the most popular golf YouTube channels’ most recent videos.

We calculated videos from 10 prominent channels (like Rick Shiels, Grant Horvat, Bryson DeChambeau, Bryan Bros, and a few others). All the videos were 10 days old, or newer. 5.03 million views.

Yes, one is double, but the Masters is only a week.

YT golf will likely do close to another 5 mil views within the next 10 days. Then, 5 more the 10 after that, and so on.

Over the course of a year — 180 million views-ish per year.

Take the Chevron Championship. Nelly Korda getting 5 wins in a row, tied for the most ever.

The final round got 941k views (according to GolfWeek). Nearly a million people, tuning in to see history (and because the RBC was rain-delayed).

Now, take this video from prominent Good Good Golf YouTuber, GM_Golf. 1.2 million views.

We type all this to say — the future of golf is bright because it seems to be in the hands of golfers.

Even the PGA is about to dole out nearly a billion $ to loyal pros.

Let’s also take a look at two recent tournaments and both Bryan Bros. Wesley Bryan came in 2nd at the alternate event to the RBC — Corrales Puntacana.

The YouTube generation really wanted Wesley to win, but he didn’t.

Unfortunately, Wesley wasn’t the only Bryan bro to come up just shy of the win.

His brother, George Bryan was one of 8 YouTube golfers to play in the Q qualifier tournament in Myrtle Beach. 8 influencers, 8 great Korn Ferry and college athletes — one spot in a PGA event.

Going into the 18th, George had a 2-shot lead.

He bogeyed 18, pro golfer Matt Atkins birdied, both players at 3 under par. Atkins won the playoff.

If you’re on YouTube ever, do yourself a favor and give some of these golfers a follow. Without a doubt, they’ll be more and more prominent in the future.

Young golfers ready to take over

Monday, we told you about Miles Russel placing top 25 in a Korn Ferry qualifier.

His tee time is at 3:43pm today. BUT he’ll now also play in a PGA event — the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

He got an exemption to play.

Now, news just broke that Charlie Woods is attempting to qualify for the U.S. Open.

Our guess? He’ll be more prepared this go-round.

First, his dad is Tiger Woods. Tiger’s dad was a master at preparing young Tiger to deal with distraction. It’s likely Charlie now has some tips from the 🐅.

Second, we’d imagine he’ll have a bit better security. (Don’t want any more grandmas trying to set Charlie up with their granddaughters.)

Will he make it? We’ll see.

Open qualifiers are, well, open. Only the top 5% get a chance to play in another tournament round for the actual chance to get into the actual U.S. Open.

Nelly Korda and Scottie Scheffler are making history

The longest stretch of wins in a row on the LPGA is 5. Nancy Lopez did it in 1978. Annika did it in 2005. Nelly did it yesterday.

Scheffler has a long way to go to tie Byron Nelson’s 11-win streak (1945), which is likely to remain untouched…for now (gotta see the best player from the next gen, further down this issue).

Korda and Scheffler’s dominance brought something to our attention, which leads to our feature story:

Honestly, LPGA coverage is embarrassing

Ok, so rain delayed the final round of the PGA’s RBC Heritage. It was pushed to 6pm, then 7pm, before getting delayed until this morning.

This gave a great boost to the concurrently running LPGA Chevron Classic.

Men and women, alike, tuned in to see Korda move closer to the Mt. Rushmore of LPGA greats.

But the coverage just isn’t as crisp. Here’s a concrete example:

First, we have a highlight reel from the LPGA’s YT channel. It’s laggy, poorly edited and shot. Really hard to watch tbh.

Now, here’s another video from the Corrales Puntacana, which also took place this weekend (alongside the RBC and Chevron).

Their highlights have excellent quality and even epic music running in the background.

(Side note: Prominent YT golfer and former PGA card holder came in 2nd. Super excited for that!)

To add insult to injury, commentator Jim Nantz called Nelly Korda “Kelly Norda” 😂

We love the game. Men, women, juniors — we want everyone to do well and be able to watch.

Hopefully, the production crews and commentators will step up their coverage game!

Miles Russell is going to shock the world

A few weeks ago, we mentioned how a golf YouTuber (Grant Horvat) searched out the best junior player in the world. He found Miles Russell who had already broken a Tiger record.

Russell beat Horvat handly in their stroke play match.

Well, Miles just played in a Korn Ferry qualifying event, at the ripe, old age of 15. He also became the youngest ever to place in the top 25.

That’s history.

He’s now able to play in the Korn Ferry tournament. Still too young to get his Korn Ferry card, but as long as he keeps in the top 25, he can play in tournaments.

Wild stuff. Just remember to bookmark his name. Russell seems poised to explode.

News just broke about the poor ratings for the 2024 Masters…on CBS.

There are, in our opinion, three primary reasons men’s pro golf ratings are down.

First, Drama.

You know what we’re talking about and we don’t need to belabor it. We want to see the best battle, not wonder who’s switching to what team for how much $.

Take the recent rumors of Rory and Hovland heading to LIV.

Side note: It was refreshing to hear McIlroy say “no” in such clear terms. He said he would play the rest of his career on the PGA.

Plus, drama makes people take extreme up-and-down opinions. Couldn’t say it any better than this X user:

Second, Digital.

The Masters. That’s the big story, after all. Ratings for the 2024 Masters were down — keep in mind that’s traditional network television, particularly CBS.

Here at Easy Pars HQ, we watched in three ways:

1. Paramount+ via Amazon (hard to track that!)

2. The Masters app (which was phenomenal, once it was working properly)

3. YouTube (usually after the fact, like rewatching clips and such)

None of those are tracked in the traditional ratings. Zilch.

While we believe viewership is down, the lion’s share of the missing viewers are likely still watching — just incognito.

Third, Dated.

That’s right, we’re fans of alliteration: drama, digital, dated.

Look, the commentators are boring, there we said it (opinion, obviously). A few months back, Capital One’s “The Match” featured none other than Charles Barkley commentating.

It was the best part about the event. He roasted Max Homa’s bad shots. Made fun of Shaq.

In other words, he doubled the entertainment: Golf + Lively commentary.

No offense to Big Golf. But the fact that one commentator is named “Smylie” happens to be the only interesting thing we remember about the commentary.

That says something about the coverage.

RBC Heritage The Chevron Championship

Remember back in the golden days?

Tiger was a force (still is, in different ways). His talent was, at best, once in a generation. Many believe it was a talent only seen once in the history of our favorite sport (aka, he’s the 🐐).

If you think back, you’ll also remember another 🐐 — on the LPGA.

You’re already thinking it, Annika Charlotta Sörenstam. (Btw, it took us a couple of minutes to figure out how to add the ¨ to the ö. Well worth the trouble.)

Hot take: The current LPGA is more popular than when Annika was centerstage (although, a big part of this is built on her shoulders).

Nelly Korda is currently 2nd at The Chevron Champions and poised to make that Wendy’s menu (5 for 5 wins).

What a year at Augusta!

Augusta’s low score during the Masters is 63 — for good reason.

It’s a hard course on an easy day. Now, add extremely high winds and devious hole positions.

How bad was it? The cut line was +6 👀

It’s here, when conditions are tough, the best golfers in the world get happy. There are a lot of pros who can compete with the best, even seem like the best, when it’s calm, sunny, and dry.

But when the wind blows, it separates the wheat from the chaff.

According to this article, Lee Trevino once said, “I want the wind to blow and blow hard. Though my game would suffer, others would suffer more.“

Not sure Lee would even like as much wind as Friday and Saturday:

It wasn’t only the wind, but the course itself that caused many golfers to shoot over par.

Key stat: Only 8 of the 60 players (who made the cut) were under par for the tournament. (Last year, there were 25 players under par.)

Tiger, while making the cut and showing us some Sunday Red for the first time in too long, came in dead last at 16 over par.

Scottie is the best in the world (a quick recap of leaders)

The guy’s won 3 of his last 4. Come on. Scottie is the best, even among LIV’s best.

But it wasn’t always that clear.

After the worst windy day (Friday) the mad scientist of golf, Bryson DeChambeau was looking great, with the solo lead.

He was literally 7 under par after his first round. Reminds me of last year, when Brooks Koepka (another LIV player) was playing great in poor conditions. But when the sun came out, Rahm dominated.

Not everyone was impressed by the 7 under, though.

Wyndham Clark, who’s had a great year, had this incredibly jerk-ish, salty statement:

On day two, Bryson was serious. At one point, there was a 5-way tie for #1, including Homa and Scheffler.

DeChambeau needed to recover from a not-so-good shot. The problem? A sign was in his way.

His solution? Rip it out of the ground.

Rahm didn’t look happy in the interview room and literally said zero words, only shaking his head when mentioned.

In the end, he put the jacket on the winner, rightfully so.

Scheffler seems to be very grounded in faith and family. We’re here for it, and hope his skill brings some positive enthusiasm to the game.

Exactly what the Master’s par 3 is supposed to do

Every year, Augusta puts on a par 3 contest the Wednesday before the Masters begins.

The significant others of the pros don the white caddy uniforms, and their children run around the course. Both kids and wives often hit shots and putts for their pro, too.

It’s charming.

This year was particularly wonderful. Why? Well, the pros were “mic’d up” and we got live interviews.

How can you not enjoy commentators speaking to Rickie Fowler, while his little girl is running around with Jordan Spieth’s young boy? Their wives chatting in the background.

Oh, and they were playing with Fred Couples!

Not to mention, it’s Rickie’s first time back in 4 years. It’s not only him back. Gary Woodland is back after taking some time off to have brain surgery.

The whole day was wholesome and a great start to the Masters. We know we’re not making fun of anything here — and that’s ok.

We hope it’s a sign of a fantastic tournament to come. (BTW it starts today!!)

Salty interviews (questions and answers)

Like the par 3, there are also a series of interviews with a mix of past winners, top pros who’ve never won, and those who’ve come really close.

This year was no different.

Tiger was interviewed. Hot take, it was honestly pretty boring. They always ask the same questions about his health and whether or not he can be in contention.

Rory was interviewed, and again, not super different. He’s been in this “3 out of 4 grand slam titles” purgatory for years.

But then things took an interesting turn — LIV interviews were a bit spicy.

On one hand, Brooks Koepka has kind of a “bad boy” reputation. (As bad of a boy you can be in a white collar sport, at least.)

Our favorite interaction:

Reporter: Do you think a 59 is possible?

Brooks: (snarky huff) Have you played here?

Reporter: Not yet.

Brooks: I can tell by the question.

Rahm, the defector, had a different type of salt, coming from reporters. Obviously, they asked about the cliche:

• Do you miss playing PGA courses and with players?

• Did you think moving to LIV would bring golf together and are you upset it hasn’t?

His answers are almost always — transparent and raw.

Basically — Yes, it’s been hard to not play with certain people and certain places. And I moved to LIV for myself.

Gotta appreciate that honestly, regardless of your views on LIV.

When players go on streaks like this, it’s never boring. And Korda has had a couple of heated playoffs in the 4 Ws, so it’s even more exciting.

Speaking of playoffs, Akshay Bhatia was on fire at the Valero!

He took a commanding lead on day one, kept it until ending up in a playoff. He would go on to win against Denny McCarthy — winning a spot in the Masters!

That’s right, after a phenomenal playoff victory, Akshay’s on his way to Georgia!
