The Itinerary

Rio de Janeiro

They call Rio the "Marvelous City" for a reason. Natural beauty mixed with the street energy, there’s this constant buzz around the city. The neighbourhoods each have their own personality too! Copacabana is the buzzy beachfront everyone knows, Ipanema is the tree-lined, boutique-y side, and Leblon (where we had a few dinners) feels a little more polished and residential.

We stayed at the Fairmont Copacabana and we LOVED the property so much. The kids got plenty of use of the pools and the beach club right on the sand! More memories here! ✨ 

Our Rio highlights:

• Maracanã soccer game: ten out of ten for kids. The stadium is ELECTRIC!! Brazil genuinely has such a love for football, and you can tell by going to these matches. I swear we didn’t see a single empty seat, oh and ear plugs wouldn’t be a bad idea either! 😂 

• Christ the Redeemer + Sugarloaf in one day: ambitious, I know, but we were fortunate to have private transfers booked which made travel within the city waaay easier. If you think you’ll have a long day and want to cover long distances look into booking private chauffeurs for that one day. It’ll be worth it. Also Christ the Redeemer was beautiful! One of the Seven Wonders for a reason, perched ontop Corcovado Mountain over looking the city and Tijuca National Park. Truly nothing like it… speechless is an understatement.

• Favela Vidigal walking tour: the most meaningful day of the trip. It's a community-run experience that supports 150+ families. If you dont know what favelas are: they’re the hillside neighborhoods that grew up around Rio over the last century, populated by working-class families and northeastern migrants, and today they're home to roughly a quarter of Rio's population!

• Carnival behind-the-scenes at Samba City: they let the kids try on real parade costumes. Instant core memory.

Iguassu Falls

This part of the trip felt like a dream. One of the most gorgeous sights I’ve EVER seen!

Iguassu isn’t just a waterfall btw… rather 275 of them, stretched across nearly two miles of jungle along the border of Brazil and Argentina! It's the largest waterfall system in the world, and the scale is genuinely hard to describe until you're standing in front of it. The gateway town on the Brazilian side is Foz do Iguaçu, which sits at a rare spot where three countries (Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay) meet.

We flew to Foz do Iguaçu and checked into the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas, the only hotel inside the national park. And over two days we saw both sides: the Brazilian side gives you the most gorgeous panoramic views, and the Argentine side (bring your passports, you cross the border) takes you right up to the Devil's Throat. We also did the Macuco Safari, which is a jeep-and-boat combo that puts you directly under the falls. You will get soaked!

What to pack for Iguassu day:

• Waterproof phone case (non-negotiable)

• A light raincoat for each kid

• Quick-dry clothes and a change in a dry bag

• Insect repellent and sunscreen

• Closed-toe shoes for the walkways

Trancoso

This was a major reset that we didn’t even realize we needed!

If Rio is the big, loud main course, Trancoso is the complete opposite. A quiet village in southern Bahia, once a fishing town that a small group of Paulistano hippies found in the 1970s and never really left! These days people call it the Tulum of Brazil, the whole place orbits around the Quadrado, a UNESCO-protected area lined with clay houses overlooking the Atlantic.

After the adrenaline of Rio and Iguassu, Trancoso was honestly a breath of fresh air! We took advantage of the lush forests and greenery, and spent time quad biking to hidden beaches, spending lots of time playing and relaxing on the sand. Of course followed with dinners on the beach. This part of the trip reminded me that the best part of a family trip is often the part where you do the least. ❤️ 

São Paulo

This was the shortest part of the trip because we booked a full day city tour on our last day before a morning flight. But totally worth it! It was around 6ish hours long and practically covered the major landmarks: Ibirapuera Park, Pinacoteca, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil.

São Paulo is the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere, with around 12 million people, and often known as the "City of Film". You can deff tell by the vibrancy of the city, that artists are riddled in every corner of the city. Beautiful street art and gorgeous architecture, the city deff has a different taste than Rio… I’d consider it more, urban and international.

👏 ESSENTIALS ONLY… Brazil sun hits different. 👏 

Between the equator, the beach, and 8-hour outdoor days, I reapplied SPF more than I ever have on a trip. A few things I want every mom to know:

• Choose mineral (zinc-based) for kids and sensitive skin. It sits on top of the skin and works on contact, no waiting period.

• Reapply every two hours, and immediately after water or sweat. One morning application is not enough. I promise.

• Don't forget the spots we all miss: tops of ears, back of neck, feet, and the part in your hair. Wow do I sound like a mom yet or what. 😅 

I rotated between a tinted mineral for my face (doubles as light makeup) and a body SPF 50 for the kids. Both made the cut into my permanent travel kit. Shop all SPF needs here! 

Travel Outfits

I’m wearing the Transit/Perfect Day half-zip pullover layered over a tee for lightweight coverage. Deff going to be my go-to for travel when I want to stay comfy. Oh my gosh, okay! This dress was such a hit on stories when I linked it. I sized down in the maxi skirt and got the matching long-sleeve top in mocha for a polished, pulled-together look. The Theme

The entire night was built around one idea Veeral's life, framed as a Hall-Of-Fame story.

Working with the incredibly talented @2createdesigns, we created a custom "Hall of Fame" wall that became the heartbeat of the evening. Four chapters, one man's story. I designed a template on Canva, so that way you can customize it to your needs!

• The Rookie Years → Childhood. The curiosity, the energy, the foundation.

• The Minor Leagues → Young adulthood. Harvard Business School. And somewhere between the late nights and career milestones… he found his most important lifelong teammate. Me. 🫶🏽 🤪 

• The Big Leagues → The career, the impact, the ventures. Vantage Oncology, Agilon Health, Brigade, North Star Ventures. Wins measured not in stats, but in people.

• Hall of Fame → 45 Years in the Making. Legacy Years... Loading.

Floor-lit with spotlights, filled with photos from every era of his life, it felt like walking into a museum dedicated to someone you love. Guests stood in front of it for a long time and just took everything in.

The Details

Every single element of this night was chosen with intention. Not because it looked good for a photo… but because it meant something to him.

Veeral is a sports guy at his core. And Kobe is an absolute legend who embodied relentless work and quiet greatness. He’s more than just a favorite player in our household. So I styled a black locker as a Lakers shrine!

Mini Blanco + Reposado bottles with fully personalized labels. His birthday, city and name on the label, signifying 45 Years in the Making. Paired with mini Tajín shakers in a little black cup holder. Every guest left with one, sooo cute!

Yes, we had beer pong. High school parties are incomplete without it. I made a "Beer Pong House Rules" sign on Canva (here’s link) and placed it on a gold easel, a table sticker that read "No GPA Required," and enough nostalgia to make everyone feel young again. 😂

For the man who appreciates a good pour, this station was chef's kiss. Sophisticated, interactive, and genuinely fun. Tasting flights and good drinks… the bar was busyyy.

Candlelit and a framed photo of Veeral with his dad ❤️. I had a cute little telephone on the table as well that doubles as a answering machine and people were able to pick up the phone and leave cute voice notes and sweet messages for the birthday boy.

The Dress Code

So we’re going for this elevated/ upscale high school party vibe. The goal was for everyone to stay comfortable but also throw it back to some nostalgic vibes from when we used to be in highschool.

I kept it simple with a simple black body suit and blue jeans… oh and of course my very trusted wedges (literally these go with ANY outfit). I have my outfit linked here!

The Itinerary

Hawaii has always been such a hot spot for our family for vacations. This was our 5th time on the islands now… and honestly just become tradition at this point.

And how could I NOT get everyone to dress up in matching outfits and keep the tradition going! 😂 😂 

🌺 Kauai, slow mornings and BIG nature

We started our trip in Kauai, staying at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa and truly, it felt like we walked into some paradise.

The property is expansive with lush gardens, koi ponds, waterfalls, and a pool complex that the kids still talk about btw. I LOVE that you can go from a beautiful oceanfront dinner to wet hair and flip flops in a short five min walk… so obviously the kids had a blast at the beach too. 😂 

We booked a couple activities ahead of time, one of them being surf lessons! Sooo much fun watching the kids get better and better each time they try. They’re actually getting more confident on those boards.

But the highlight has to be our second activity… a ride over the beautiful island of Kauai. 💫

This experience was AMAZING! A helicopter tour over the green mountaintops, and lush forests. We flew over lot’s of waterfalls including the world famous “Jurassic falls”. The views were just absolutely stunning… so surreal! It was a little nerve wrecking getting on a helicopter at first, especially because it was all our first time, but our pilot gave us the smoothest ride with all the info and history of the island. 100% recommend this as an outing! Thank you so much to Blue Hawaiian Activities for being such greats hosts and planners, they have plentyyy of more activities to choose from… like endless options 😂! Be sure to check them out!

🌼 Oahu, energy + history & NYE fun

2nd stop… Oahu. 🌴 

We and stayed at the iconic Moana Surfrider, also known as the “First Lady of Waikiki.” You know a place is going to be good, when they have their own nickname 🤣. And it lived up to it’s expectations!

Hotel Info

Built in 1901 this property is ✨elegant✨ to say the least. Once inside, there’s this massive Banyan tree in the courtyard that feels like it’s seen a hundred years of stories. Our room overlooked the ocean, best way to wake up every morning. ☀️ 

What I loved most about Oahu, especially after the calming pace of Kauai, was how alive and walkable everything felt. Waikiki isn’t just a beach… rather its actually a hub. The International Marketplace is full of boutiques, buzzing cafés, and restaurants! You can stroll down to breakfast, browse shops with the kids, pop into some galleries, and still make it back in time for sunset on the sand… all by walking.

Theres sooo many beautiful trails in this island. We hiked Diamond Head, which is such a good family hike. Challenging enough to feel accomplished, but totally doable with kids. Oh and a lunch spot we really liked was Diamond Head Grill, so highly recommend. ☺️ 

We spent NYE at our hotel and it was sooo special✨. There was so much happening… live music, little booths set up around the property, fun activities for the kids. Honestly felt like its own little village celebration. Kai was literally awake the entire time 😂. I kept waiting for him to crash (especially with the time difference), but he is a party animal, I am convinced… and secretly impressed.

Such a different energy from our usual New Year’s, and honestly the most beautiful way to welcome a fresh start. Grateful for moments like that.

We didn’t make it to Lanikai Beach this trip (adding it to the list for next time 🤍), but if your kids are a little older, Pearl Harbor and the Polynesian Cultural Center are truly incredible experiences.

Both are such meaningful ways to learn about the history and culture of the islands, and I always love when we can weave in a little education while we travel. Makes it feel a bit more intentional, yenno?

2. This swim look is one of my favorites! The swimsuit has a beautiful, supportive fit that smooths through the waist and gives you structure without feeling overly tight. Found this on amazon! And a lightweight cover-up that moves beautifully and gives just enough coverage to go from pool to lunch without needing a full outfit change. 3. Okay this is one of my go-to summer formulas. I’m wearing a buttery soft Aerie bodysuit, it’s fitted and flattering, which makes it perfect for tucking into denim shorts or layering under anything. Topped it off with a baseball cap and aviators (from target for only $17) for that sporty look. This is such an easy outfit for travel days, running around with the kids, beach walks, or even a casual lunch. Everything is linked!

After Udaipur, the adventure didn’t slow down one bit. ✨

Jaipur → Rambagh Palace

Landing in Jaipur felt like stepping into sunlight itself golden and dry and full of color. We chose Taj Rambagh Palace for our stay, which looked straight out of a storybook honestly. Once bags were dropped off, we wandered through the most beautiful courtyards and gardens, such an amazing property!! We kept dinner simple and got some early sleep. 😴 

📍 Location Tip: Ask for a heritage walk around Rambagh. The staff share the sweetest royal family stories that give you a peek into Jaipur’s past.

Exploring the Pink City

We started early to beat the crowds at Amber Fort. We stopped by a few locations all worth checking out: Jal Mahal,City Palace and Jantar Mantar. One of the highlights this trip (for me personally) was Bapu Bazaar. The best place for street shopping, this is a must! It’s draped with beautiful colors and the busy-ness/ chaos adds so much beauty to the place. You can probably imagine what a bazaar looks like, but times it by 5 and that’s what this is! They have everything… like everything bangles, towels, scarves, saris, henna, candles, pottery, food it’s endless! 😂 At sunset we did one last location and watched the most beautiful skies from Nahargarh Fort.

A looong day, good thing though becuase the kids were asleep before we even reached the hotel. 😂 

Hands-On craft day

This one stays close to my heart. 💛 We spent the afternoon learning Rajasthan’s traditional crafts block printing, pottery, and weaving. Each offered a look into the region’s rich artistry. Block printing, done with hand-carved wooden stamps, has shaped Jaipur’s textiles for centuries with its signature elephants and paisleys. Pottery showed the skill behind shaping everyday pieces by hand, while weaving revealed just how detailed and precise these age-old techniques are. It’s amazing how these crafts still thrive, carrying the same traditions through generations.

❤️ Family Favorite: We booked through a local artisan co-op Blue Pottery Studio and had such a great time. Not only are the artists patient with kids, but you take home something handmade to remember the day.

New Year’s Eve and Tiger Safari 🐯 

Ranthambore was extra special because it was the one place neither Veeral nor I had ever been. The region is known for its national parks, once a royal hunting ground, now one of the best places in India to spot Bengal tigers. We booked a half-day safari through @ranthambhorepark and while no tiger sightings this time (Kai’s running commentary may have had something to do with that 😜), the experience was still amazing. The landscape felt ancient, full of banyan trees and wildlife everywhere!

We stayed at @sixsensesfortbarwara and it might just be my favorite stay of the trip. The property is a restored 14th-century fort turned wellness retreat, where history meets calm in the most seamless way. The kids rode camels at sunset, winding through the desert while we sipped the best masala chai made by the kindest woman on staff. We needed this lil break for some RnR.

That night, the hotel hosted a✨stunning✨ NYE dinner with live music, fireworks, and traditional Rajasthani decor. It set the perfect tone for our little family goals session everyone picked a word for 2025 (mine was intention), and we ended the night snuggled up, grateful and ready for a new year together. ❤️ 

🌿 Wellness Moment: The Six Senses spa uses all-natural ayurvedic oils, and their signature Barwara Bliss massage is exactly what you need after a few days of travel. Deeply relaxing!

Delhi bound

The road to Delhi was long but surprisingly peaceful. With snacks, audiobooks, and a few rounds of “are we there yet,” we rolled into the capital just in time for dinner and early bedtime. We stayed at The Oberoi and was our little slice of heaven, what a wonderful property!

The Taj Mahal experience ✨ 

There are few places that live up to the hype… Taj Mahal is that!! Standing there with V and the kids, watching the marble shift colors at sunset… honestly surreal. A quick guide on our tour. 👇️ 

• When to go: I’ve heard sunrise is ideal for fewer crowds, but in Dec–Jan the fog can be really heavy, so have to be mindful about weather

• Guides & photos: Have your guide booked ahead (we used @greavestravel) and hire a local photographer who knows the spots. Ours shot, edited, and transferred pics on the spot in 20 minutes!

• Tickets: Buy online in advance and opt for the mausoleum entry (comes with shoe covers and worth it).

• What to bring: Keep it light bags mean longer security checks. Just tissues, sanitizer, and your phone in a fanny pack, thats all you need. Parents, trust me… someone will need a bathroom at the least convenient time 😅.

• Dress & timing: Dress comfortably and allow 60–90 minutes for the tour. It’s closed Fridays, so plan accordingly!

Old Delhi Energy

Next morning we dove straight into Chandni Chowk and ouffff sizzling parathas, syrupy jalebi, you already know we’re enjoying a good meal here. But a note, it is suuuper busy, it’s one of the biggest hubs in the city! Then our guide took us to Red Fort, then wrapped the day shopping handmade treasures at Dilli Haat. We took lots of tiny souvenirs for our friends back home.

Food Tip: The paratha shops at Paranthe Wali Gali are iconic but go early, and ask for the paneer ones (trust me!).

Things to Try when planning

• In Jaipur: Block-printing and pottery, rooftop lunch near City Palace, sunset at Nahargarh Fort.

• In Barwara: Wellness day at Six Senses spa, short village walk, candlelit dinner on the ramparts.

• In Delhi: Morning stroll through Lodhi Gardens, food tasting at Chandni Chowk, and one splurge night at The Oberoi.

• For Families: Keep travel days light, pack snacks, and plan one “hands-on” activity per city it makes the trip feel more like play than sightseeing.

A Little Reflection 💭 

This trip reminded me why family travel matters so much. It’s not about checking places off a list it’s about watching your kids see the world with fresh eyes, learning to slow down between destinations. India gave us a reminder to hold space for our roots and appreciate the history we come from.

One of the most meaningful parts of our trip was visiting @magic.bus an NGO that empowers children and young adults in underserved communities through education, life skills, and mentorship. Their “Childhood to Livelihood” approach helps break the cycle of poverty by giving kids the tools and confidence to dream bigger and shape their own futures.

Sitting through two of their classes, we watched young students solve problems together and class activities designed to build teamwork. We even jumped in for a game of charades!

Travel isn’t just about the places we see it’s about the people we meet and the values/ lessons we carry home. ❤️ 

Special Note For October 💌 

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I wanted to take a moment to share someones story.

My friend Nasreen went through breast cancer a few years ago and came out stronger than ever! Today she’s healthy, thriving, and using her platform to spread awareness!

I wanted to highlight her story. She recently opened up in a People mag feature, which you can read here! An inspiring reminder of resilience, motherhood, and the importance of regular checkups. 🩺 

She’s always been such a force, but seeing her turn something so difficult into purpose has been incredibly inspiring. To every woman reading this, let’s keep showing up for ourselves and for each other. Book that screening, check in on your loved ones, and keep these conversations going. ❤️ 

Calling All Libras!

October is hot!

Why does it feel like it’s literally everyones birthday month 🤔. And what trips me up even more is how close everyones birthdays are to each other! Pretty sure I’ve sent out 20 texts already!

But incase I forget, happy birthday to everyone all at once! 😂 

Rian and I celebrate our birthdays four days apart, and this year he’s officially entered his teens. Someone tell me if that’s a good or bad thing, because seriously… how is my baby 13 already? 🥺 
He’s officially taller than me now which feels just unfair and means I’ve lost all negotiating power!! 😭 Send help (and a stool).

Watching him grow into a young man is one of the greatest joys of my life. But motherhood isn’t just about watching them grow… it’s about growing with them. Every year, Rian teaches me something new and reminds me to loosen my grip a little to make space for who he’s becoming. As he steps into this next chapter, I feel so proud (and just a little nostalgic), I am so excited to see all the places this kid goes. 🫶 

And speaking of growing with our kids… I’m getting old too! 😭 But what a blessing that is right? It took me until my 40s to realize that aging isn’t something to fear, but something to treasure. Not everyone gets the gift of more time, and every year is a privilege 🙌🏽. I’m holding little Ami close, the girl who dreamed big, worried often, and didn’t yet know how beautifully life would unfold. I’m deeply grateful for where I’ve been, filled with hope for what’s ahead, and in awe of the simple joy of being here.

The Festival of Lights

Okay, let’s get into all the Diwali action going on… where do I even start.

So many Diwali events happening everywhere right now! ✨ Honestly, I love seeing our culture being celebrated across the country and inviting more people to learn about Diwali.
My kids’ schools even have Diwali parties now and I’ll admit, I get a little jealous that we didn’t have those same experiences growing up! But it’s such a wonderful reminder of how much things have changed. The world is becoming more open, accepting, and appreciative of new cultures and traditions 🪔. And can we take a moment for this?! California officially recognized Diwali as a statewide holiday! HOW AMAZING is that?! This is progress. 👏 

This Diwali was extra special because I got to take part in a P&G commercial for Bounty! And wait for it… it’s airing in Times Square!! Are 👏 you 👏 kidding 👏 me?!

Unfortunately, not everything went as planned 😞… our watch party in NYC got completely rained out, so we didn’t get to see it this time. But I’m heading back in November when it officially plays on one of those big screens, and honestly, I’m still pinching myself.

I’m so beyond grateful for opportunities like this. Seeing myself in Times Square has always been a dream, and even though I have to be a little more patient, I’m sooo excited!

This Diwali season has been nothing short of amazing, but I’m most looking forward to celebrating on Monday with the kids and hubby! Hope your Diwali is just as blessed, surrounded by family and filled with light! ❤️

The Itinerary

📍Athens

We started our journey in Athens, staying right in the city center, steps from the Parliament building (made exploring super easy). We only had two days here, but seeing the Parthenon is a must! You can’t leave Greece without seeing it.

We booked a private Acropolis and Museum tour, which was such a good decision as a family. Our guide met us right at the hotel lobby and led us to the ancient steps that Athenians walked thousands of years ago. The kids loved this tour, Kai was absolutely convinced he was Zeus. 😂⚡️ 

Learning the history while walking through the ruins was such a special experience. Felt so unreal to stand where such a powerful civilization once lived, and the Parthenon was without a doubt the highlight. 🏛️

📍Santorini

Then came Santorini, and wow 😍 the sunsets live up to the hype!!

It's basically one giant photo backdrop (which, let's be honest, made me very happyyy 🤩). We stayed at Canaves Epitome, and were fortunate to have a private pool in our room which kept the kids super occupied, thank goodness!

With trips like this we have to take advantage of the location, for family photos. I booked through Flytographer, for a nice sunset shoot. I’ve worked with these guys in the past and they never disappoint! Use code AMI50. Our photographer was absolutely amazing with the kids, knew all the no-crowd spots, and honestly made the whole night so seamless.

Two more things to add to your list for family fun in Santorini:

• Ancient Akrotiri: a city buried by a volcanic eruption 3,600 years ago!

• Symposion Music Experience: an interactive workshop where the whole family can try ancient Greek instruments and learn history through music.

📍Crete

And just when we thought our Greek adventure couldn't get any better, we discovered Crete!

After Santorini, we hopped on a ferry to Crete, and honestly? Best 👏 decision 👏 ever.

People often miss this island because it’s overshadowed by big cities… BUT this island is a gem, with the most gorgeous beaches I have ever seen! So plzzzz consider for your trip!

One of the highlights was our family fishing trip in Elounda. If your family loves being on the water, this is such a fun way to spend a day. The kids were completely hooked (pun intended 😂) and everyone caught a fish too btw!

Some things we did while in Crete:

Knossos Palace paired with an olive oil estate visit. These tours were super relatable for the kids btw, since they covered greek studies in prior curriculums. And the olive oil tasting is a must while in Greece right? So be sure to carve out some time for those! They do tours and show the processes so it’s a whole activity (you can do this in any city btw).

How to Get Mermaid Waves

Posted a hair tutorial while down in Santorini on how to get the soft mermaid waves. Perfect for special events (family photos for me). What I love most about this hairstyle creates soft, romantic curls that move beautifully even in hot weather.

I used hair extensions and a curling iron, for that voluminous look. The secret is in the technique holding each curl and using the right products, so your hair won't fall flat in humidity! ☀️

How We Make it Work

You guys see our family all the time online… well at least the kids, Veeral not sooo much 😂 .One of the most common questions and comments I'm asked is the "secret" to a happy, lasting marriage.

The truth? There isn't just one secret… rather, it's intentional choices and daily commitments, Veeral and I make everyday.

Last month, V surprised me with a weekend getaway to Mexico City celebrating our dating anniversary (or "dateaversary" as we call it). 😍🥹 25 years together…he’s still full of surprises & oh so romantic! Who plans a Dateaversary getaway?? So grateful for every moment.

But beyond the romantic gestures, what truly makes our marriage thrive is something much deeper: our commitment to growing together, not just growing old together.

The Power of the Annual Check-In 

One tradition that has transformed our relationship is our yearly check-in ✅. This means more than just dinner and gifts. We use it as an opportunity to pause, reflect, and realign.

We carve out dedicated time (usually with good food and drinks 🤪 obvs) to have honest conversations about three key areas:

• personal growth

• professional aspirations

• family goals

Life gets and will always be, loud or stressful. With work, kids, parents of our own, friends, responsibilities (and just life in general) it's easy to miss what's really happening in each other's hearts.

This ritual helps us slow down and remember that we're not just surviving life together… we're building something beautiful.

Planning the Next 25 Years 

As we look towards the future, we're not just dreaming about retirement or empty nest years. We're actively planning to support each other's dreams. I have lot’s I want to accomplish in my career and V also working towards some big goals. We share that with each other… make it known that there are things we are activity pursuing and then we hold each other accountable.

But beyond professional goals, kids are always #1. We want to continue to be good examples and model healthy love for our children. Ri, Kai and Mi will ALWAYS have a safe space with us. ❤️

Heartbroken But Still Hopeful

Last night, while putting the youngest to sleep, I caught myself in the middle of it all. This everyday chaos, or rhythm of motherhood… it’s a privilege. A gift not every mother gets to experience.

Right now, moms in Gaza and beyond are just praying their children make it through the night. That perspective is heavy… honestly, heartbreaking 💔. And it’s not something I want to scroll past without doing something or acknowledging it.

I believe two things can be true at once…

we can hold deep gratitude for our comfort, AND also hold space to care for those who don’t have that same peace. 

And as mothers, we have to use these moments to teach our kids about empathy, about global awareness, and about the importance of helping where we can.

Mila’s 11th Birthday!

If you took sunshine and bottled it up that would be the best description of Miss Mila 🌞✨. Happy 11th birthday to my forever bestie and favorite daughter. Thank you for being the light you are & doing everything with your mama, even be in her silly little videos ❤️🎉🎂🥳 Per usual I’m sure for every parent I took a trip down memory lane and found some gems!

We had to do something special for our girl, and you know how it gets planning things around summer break with vacations, sports and camps… but this one simple DIY completely stole the show for Mila’s 11th!

I'm talking about our DIY hoodie station…and you guuyyys 😍, some of the girls spent more time at the craft table than they did in the pool!! That's success in my eyes! 😂

What we did:

I set up a simple station with white blank hoodies and tons of iron-on patches from Amazon (pro tip: stock up on L's and M's because apparently every kid has those letters in their name 😅). The girls went wild designing their own custom hoodies! Some kept it simple but most of them went crazy with the patches 😂, so be sure to get a variety! I have some linked here.

The best part is, this isn't just a birthday activity. This DIY works for sooo many occasions:

Summer camp prep? Let the kids customize their own camp gear, hats and t-shirts. Perfect for fam reunions too! You're not just keeping kids busy for the night, but letting them make something they'll actually hold onto for some time 🫶. Trust me, save this idea… You’ll thank me later!

The Yellow Brick Road Project

A dear family friend’s daughter was recently diagnosed with a very rare neurodevelopment disorder linked to the HNRNPH2 gene. It impacts things like speech, mobility, and overall development, and because it’s so rare, research and awareness are incredibly limited.

I’m teaming up with the Yellow Brick Road Project, a nonprofit working hard to fund research and spread awareness for children and families living with this conldition. And as someone who’s so lucky to be surrounded by an amazing, supportive community like YOU, I know we can help make a difference together.

Some Parenting Thoughts

There’s been this parenting trend going around where you say a few “toxic” phrases to your kids just to see how they respond. I decided to try it with mine and their reactions absolutely melted me 🥹. They answered with so much gentleness… made my heart so full. ❤️ You can watch it here!

It also sparked some reflection for me. For a while now, Veeral and I have really tried to reframe the way we communicate. Not just what we say, but how we say it.

It’s made me more intentional about creating a home where my kids feel safe to speak up, share their feelings, and mess up without fear. Even the phrases that seem harmless in the moment can have a lasting impact on our kids’ confidence and emotional well-being. Choosing words that build our kids up is so crucial and it’s not about being a perfect parent (because, let’s be real, is that even a thing?)… rather it’s about pausing for a second before responding.

Anyways, I just really think it’s up to us to break that chain/ old patterns ☺️. So here’s to all of us doing the work and trying to be better for our kids, because the way we speak, respond, and show up every day sets the tone for our kids’ sense of self and confidence. ❤️ 

The Itinerary

Finally getting around to putting this all together, so let’s talk itinerary and plan out your next trip! 😉 

We traveled as a fam with some close friends, and you guys… this Colombia trip hit different!

📍Medellín

We kicked things off in Medellín, and I’ll be honest — I didn’t know what to expect. We heard it was up-and-coming, but the city completely blew me away!

When in Colombia, how could you NOT do a coffee tour?? ☕️ 

They’re so well known for their coffee beans here! So we did a guided tour and got to walk the same paths the farmers do, winding through lush green crops while learning how each bean is grown and nurtured. They taught us all about the process and even brewed some coffee for us to have! 🤩 Literally farm to cup, it cant get better!

Another one of my favourite things in Medellin was the social innovation and afro flow tour. We visited neighborhoods in Medellín that have completely transformed in the last couple of decades. Areas that were once unsafe are now vibrant, and alive with community-led change❤️!! The streets, the walls, every corner is covered in art.✨ 
We joined a local guide who walked us through the streets and explained how graffiti and hip hop literally transformed the space. The kids got to create their own graffiti tags- that was sooo much fun!! This is the kind of education they can’t get in a classroom. 🎨 

📍Tayrona & Palomino

Now from Medellin ➡️ 🛫 ➡️ Tayrona

We stayed at the cutest villa at Tewimake—and I was honestly obsessed 👏. It was the perfect setup for our families, with just the right balance of comfort while being nestled in this lush forest, ugghhh so peaceful and not to mention all the beautiful parrots and birds flying everywhere! 😍 Truly felt like a little slice of heaven!

One of my favorite things we did while at Tayrona, was a private speedboat tour! Starting from Santa Marta, we jetted off to explore hidden bays inside Tayrona National Park, and these beaches were honestly out of a travel magazine. We snorkelled, swam, explored little coves, and had lunch on the beach! 🌴 

It was the perfect balance of adventure and fun for the kids, they were so tired at the end of the day!

📍Cartagena

Okay Cartagena was absolutely a blast! The highlight of this whole trip was def the surf lessons🏄️! Even if you’re not a surfer, this experience was so much fun. Also, everyone trying something together and cheering each other on… LOVED IT. I’m def going to remember this one 🥺❤️!

And shout out to the surf instructors that were so patient with us! 🤣 You have to see us attempting to surf! And after? The mamas did a little shopping, massages and stroll through the old city— we earned it after that lesson! 🙈

Volunteer Work

We’ve been so lucky to travel as a family to so many places around the world, and with every trip, our goal is more than just sightseeing. 🌎️ 

The one thing my husband and I prioritize with our kids is giving back and volunteering. So when we plan vacations we also find ways to volunteer together as a family.

During our Colombia trip we spent some time with @fundacion_koinonia. This foundation serves under privileged kids with an afterschool program, and we are so grateful we got to join them! 🥰 The kids spent time teaching each other english and Spanish phrases and also lots of games and art

It’s so important to us, that our kids grow up understanding how different life can be outside their own bubble. It also serves as a reminder that giving back is a privilege, not a burden. ❤️

I also got to attend a super special South Asians at the Oscars event, where so many talented South Asian creatives and leaders were celebrated. And I know I’m not an actor or director, but as a South Asian in a creative field, being surrounded by people doing big things for our community left me so inspired! I felt so proud just being in that room. 🥰

India So Far

We made it to India! 🤩 

Traveling with eight people? Let’s just say it’s an adventure in itself 😅. Between long airport walks, trying not to lose passports, and juggling carry-ons… it was hectic in the best way.

The first few days were spent with family in Hanuman Bhagda and my heart was so full! It’s a once in a lifetime experience to have our kids see and roam around the same places our parents grew up! Such a humbling experience not only for Veeral and I, but also our kids! ❤️

The City of Lakes, this place is just pure magic! I posted our family photoshoot on my stories and ended getting a ton of questions, so thought I’d share some tips.

Family Photoshoot 🤝 Traveling 

We planned a shoot at the gorgeous Taj Lake Palace, and the pics turned out AMAZING… thanks to @clickstoremember. But a few lessons learned along the way:

• Check the weather! We moved our shoot last minute because rain was in the forecast, and thank goodness we did. The morning we originally planned was a washout—literally!

• Know your hotel’s rules. Some high-end resorts, like the Taj, don’t allow outside photographers unless they’re staying as guests. We had to use their in-house photographer, which cost about $500 USD (pricey for India), but he was worth it! He knew all the best spots, and we wrapped up in just an hour.

• Plan your outfits to match the location. For Rajasthan, I went with rich, royal colors, and the blue tones were just chef’s kiss against the stunning palace backdrop.

I’ve been getting DMs about whether you can take photos on your phone, and the answer is YES, totally! You can snap all you want, but most resorts won’t let you bring in outside vendors who aren’t guests.

The Itinerary

Day 1: Landing in Tokyo

The excitement of landing in Tokyo was unmatched, but the 16-hour time difference hits hard. We stayed at the Westin Tokyo, which was central, spacious, and had a breakfast buffet ( a life saver every morning 😂). After a quick refresh, we met up with friends for dinner and eased into the city’s magic.

What we did:

• Checked into The Westin Tokyo (two rooms for extra space with the kids).

• Dinner at Gonpachi Nishi-Azabu—the famous “Kill Bill” restaurant.

After dinner, we were completely wiped and ready to rest up for the adventure ahead!

Day 2: Markets & Family Cooking Classes

Our first full day in Tokyo was packed with amazing food, cultural sights, and even a cooking class. The kids were all in, from tasting street snacks at the fish market to making their own ramen and gyoza. We ended the day with some vintage shopping and sweet treats, balancing family time with a little mom escape.

What we did:

• Explored Tsukiji Fish Market (sushi and street snacks galore!) and Toyosu Fish Market.

• Took a family cooking class at Tokyo Cooking Studio—ramen and gyoza were a hit!

• Strolled through Yoyogi Park and visited Meiji Temple.

• Moms-only vintage shopping spree at Qoo (scored a Chanel mini bag ⭐).

• Harajuku Street for sweets and people-watching while the kids enjoyed Mipig Café.

• And a popular one amongst the kids, the Sumo Experience! Dinner and drinks while we learned about Sumo wrestling and watched a live match!

It was a full day but didn’t feel overwhelming—a perfect mix of adventure and downtime.

Day 3: Kimonos & Baseball

This day was all about diving into Tokyo’s culture and having some fun as a family. Dressing in kimonos was such a sweet experience, especially for me and Mila! Then we got tix to a baseball game in Meiji Jingu Stadium. This gave us a glimpse into Japan’s sports culture, which is very different compared to US! They’re so much more quiet and polite. Then we ended the day on a high note with karaoke—so much fun!

What we did:

• Dressed in traditional kimonos and took family photos in Shibuya.

• Guided sightseeing tour (honestly, not our favorite, but we made it work).

• Watched a Swallows baseball game at Meiji Jingu Stadium.

• Karaoke at the Rainbow Room in Jinnan with a private room, free coffee and soft-serve! I mean… it doesn’t get better than that!!! 😍 

The mix of traditional and modern experiences made this day unforgettable!

Day 4: Samurai Moves & Team Labs

Our last day in Tokyo brought out our inner warriors and art enthusiasts. From dressing up as ninjas to experiencing the immersive beauty of TeamLab Planets, the kids were fully into it! And we ended the night with a quiet Teppanyaki dinner and had an adults night out in Shibuya—a great way to wind down! 🍻🍾

What we did:

• Samurai Ninja Museum for swordplay and ninja moves with the kids.

• Walked through Ueno Park and enjoyed a cherry blossom festival.

• Immersive art experience at TeamLab Planets—a highlight of the trip! This is a MUST when in Tokyo… like plz do it!

• Teppanyaki dinner at Wakakaiseki Yamatokan with a private room (perfect for loud kiddos).

Tokyo was everything we hoped for and more, but now we gear up for Kyoto! 🤩 

Day 5: Traveling to Kyoto

We kicked off our Kyoto adventure with a relaxing 90-minute ride on the bullet train. Pro tip: Use Japan’s luggage transfer service to send big bags ahead—so much easier when traveling with kids! Once we arrived, the Hotel Mitsui blew us away with its gorgeous architecture and cozy suite, giving us the perfect home base to explore this beautiful city.

What we did:

• Traveled to Kyoto on the bullet train.

• Checked into the stunning Hotel Mitsui—a new family favorite.

• Enjoyed a private tea ceremony at Nagomi, followed by dinner at Gion Emon.

• Night tour of Nijo Castle with lantern-lit pathways and a magical light show.

The day ended with matching pajamas for the kids (so cute!) and us feeling fully immersed in Kyoto’s peaceful vibe.

Day 6: Private Onsen & Markets

Our first full day in Kyoto started with ultimate relaxation—a private onsen experience that was calming for the adults and fun for the kids. From there, we dove into the lively Nishiki Market, where we sampled incredible food and picked up some beauty products (Japan’s pharmacies are next-level! 😍 ).

What we did:

• Relaxed in a private onsen at Hotel Mitsui (quiet, serene, and just what we needed).

• Wandered Nishiki Market, trying everything from salmon sushi to sake.

• Ninja blade-throwing experience (fun but definitely a one-time thing for me).

• Dinner at Ramen (you can’t go wrong with ramen in Japan!).

It was the perfect mix of calm and adventure, setting the tone for the days to come.

Day 7: Exploring Kyoto’s Natural Beauty

This day was all about soaking in Kyoto’s famous sights. A guided walking tour took us to stunning temples, parks, and even a monkey park! The cherry blossoms were in full bloom! 🌸 

What we did:

• Visited the Golden Temple (Kinkakuji), Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, and Monkey Park (another kid fave btw and you can feed the monkeys!)

• Walked under breathtaking cherry blossoms at Arashiyama Park.

• Spent the evening exploring Kyoto’s quiet charm with our group.

Let me tell you… the cherry blossoms were breathtaking, even the kids were in awe. It can be hard to time it, as they can be unpredictable, but this was absolutely a highlight of the trip— truly beautiful!

Day 8: Bikes, Temples, & Nightlife

We saved the best for last with a cycling tour that took us to Kyoto’s most iconic spots. The kids were hesitant at first (Kai was not thrilled about the bike seat!) but ended up loving the ride. We capped off the trip with a parents-only night out at a local club, dancing to old-school hip-hop.

What we did:

• Cycle Kyoto bike tour with stops at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Fushimi Inari Shrine. This was one of my fave parts of the trip!

• Explored Kyoto’s historic neighbourhoods and stunning parks.

• Parents’ night out at World Kyoto—a club with the best throwback R&B tunes!

It was the perfect way to wrap up our Kyoto adventure, blending family fun with a little adult downtime. 😊

Thanksgiving Prep

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, surrounded by love and family. And, filled with lots of good food—obvs! 😂

I have some recipes that I whipped up for our dinner, maybe you could add these to your Christmas dinner ideas!

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Cheddar Bay Biscuits are always a huge hit with our family. They taste just like Red Lobster’s and are truly so easy to make at home.

Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using).

3. Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or two forks, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Add Buttermilk and Cheese: Pour in the cold buttermilk and add the shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix.

5. Scoop Biscuits: Using a large spoon or a 3-tablespoon cookie scoop, drop mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.

7. Prepare Garlic Butter Topping: While the biscuits are baking, whisk together the melted butter, garlic powder, and dried parsley in a small bowl.

8. Brush Biscuits: As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, brush the tops generously with the garlic butter mixture.

Rosemary Garlic Focaccia Muffins

These muffins are meant to be soft on the inside, golden and crispy on the outside, making them a perfect shareable side dish for any meal. Now if I’m being honest… my dough didn’t rise, so they never turned into muffins (but rosemary garlic biscuits sound good too…right?) 😭😂 

But if you end up trying this and it turns out amazing! Plz tell me what I did wrong. 😂 

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough (Day 1):

   • In a large bowl, mix the yeast, honey, and warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.

   • Add the bread flour and sea salt to the bowl. Stir with a large spoon or spatula until a rough dough forms.

   • Drizzle 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the dough and gently turn it to coat.

   • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (at least 8 hours). The dough will double in size.

2. Shape the Muffins (Day 2):

   • Drizzle another 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the risen dough and knead it briefly to deflate.

   • Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled counter and shape it into a rough rectangle.

   • Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces.

   • Grease a muffin pan with olive oil and place each dough piece into a muffin cup.

   • Cover and let the dough rise at room temperature for about 2 hours until doubled in size.

3. Prepare the Topping:

   • Heat ⅓ cup of olive oil in a small pan over medium heat.

   • Add the minced rosemary and garlic. Remove from heat and swirl gently to cook the herbs without burning them.

4. Bake the Muffins:

   • Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).

   • With oiled hands, poke deep holes all over the top of each dough piece.

   • Spoon the rosemary garlic topping evenly over the dough.

   • Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden brown.

Halloween Recap

Last week was a whirlwind! I was so busy between Diwali parties and Halloween, I feel like I’m finally settling in now! 😴 We had Halloween parties for the parents, which meant dressing up, a few cocktails, and all the laughs. It’s always so fun seeing all our friends dress up, this year we had a group theme and dressed up at the Scooby-Doo squad 😂. Again… SO MUCH FUN!

And of course trick-or-treating with the kids is always a must! This year the family did a cops and robbers theme (I got away with wearing a cute little donut outfit) and everyone was so into it this year. Watching them race from house to house in their little costumes was priceless. Let’s just say we’ve got enough candy to last until next Halloween… or at least until next week! 😆

Okay, this recipe is super close to my heart because my mom used to make it for us when we were kids, and now I have the pleasure of making it for my own kids and sharing it with you! You have to give these a try—they’re so yummy!

Instructions:

1. Prep the Baking Dish: Pour a layer of La Victoria sauce at the bottom of a baking dish.

2. Assemble the Burritos:

   • Lay out a tortilla, fill it with beans, veggies, and a sprinkle of cheese.

   • Fold the tortilla and place it in the baking dish, seam side down.

3. Add Sauce & Toppings:

   • Pour more La Victoria sauce over the burritos, ensuring they’re well-drenched.

   • Top with extra shredded cheese and diced onions.

4. Bake:

   • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

   • Bake for 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

5. Finish with Fresh Toppings:

   • Once out of the oven, top with shredded lettuce, sour cream, green onions, and salsa.
