Responsibilities: 

• Support client's finance, marketing, and social media teams with content creation and scheduling to deliver content focused around corporate storytelling  

• Tracking social media platforms; regularly share key learnings within articles and creative media to showcase findings in short form audio, video, photo, or short form posts

1. First Thing’s First: Know Your Dimensions

TikTok

• Video Length Minimum: 3 seconds

• Video Length Maximum: 10 minutes

• Dimensions: 1080 pixels wide and 1920 pixels tall

• Aspect ratio: 9x16

IG Reels 

• Video Length: Max of 90 seconds

• Dimensions: 1080 pixels wide and 1920 pixels tall

• Aspect Ratio: 9x16

YouTube Shorts 

• Video Length: Max of 60 seconds

  • Or: Four 15 second videos can be cut together to make a total one minute video

• Dimensions: 1080 pixels wide and 1920 pixels tall

Note: 9x16 is the standard screen size of a smart phone so if you record on your phone, you’re golden! 👍 But don’t sweat it if you shoot on another device and need to resize your video, you can use video resizing and editing software like Premiere Pro, Kapwing, Vimeo, or Veed.IO.

2. Good Lighting Is Key

Dark and gritty lighting can make it difficult for viewers and gives off the vibe of a low-quality and low effort for the videos. Getting a ring light is a major game changer because you won’t be reliant on just natural lighting to shoot videos anymore. You can film any time of day. You can also buy a tripod to stabilize your phone that even have a ring light attached.

3. We Want To Hear You! Make Sure You Have Clear Audio

You want to make sure all your talking points are clear and audible. We suggest testing your audio before filming or even getting a mic (this could even be the standard Apple headphones or AirPods) to enhance the audio quality. You want to make sure viewers can clearly see and understand you.

4. Have a Consistent and Identifiable Background or Item

Almost like a trademark, it's good to have something to make your content be identifiable - whether it be an article of clothing, the same background or thumbnail, or even a slogan that you always use to open the video. It gives your videos a special component that differentiates them from other content creators.

5. Want your content to go viral? Well, make sure it is relevant, on trend, and on point! 🗣️

Talk About What’s Trending

People are more likely to watch a video on a topic that is very popular and relevant currently. Not saying that if your video isn’t on a trending idea that it won’t do well. You just have a greater chance of engagement if it is something that is on everyone’s mind.

Grab Attention with Your Opening Hook

You want to capture people’s attention in the first few seconds of the video to let them know what the video is about and also draw them in to stay and watch, rather than keep scrolling

6. Captions And Titles

Not all people watch videos with the audio on. Maybe they’re in a public place or don’t have their headphones with them or could be hearing impaired. It’s important to add captions so everyone can understand what you’re saying and nothing deters them from watching your video. You want your videos to be as accessible to as many people as possible and don’t want a lack of captions to isolate anyone. Also, adding titles to your video makes it easy for viewers to understand what you’re going to be discussing and they don’t have to wait to see if they are interested. This way you capture the attention of the audience you want your videos to attract.

7. Format Your Videos For The Platforms You’re Posting On

Even if you film your phone or if you don’t, ensure it is formatted correctly for the vertical videos that are posted on TikTok, Youtube Shorts, and IG. You want to make sure nothing is cropped or cut off and that the full image is high-quality and visible for viewers. All videos on TikTok, IG Reels, and YouTube Shorts follow the same dimensions of 1080 pixels wide and 1920 pixels tall with an aspect ratio of 9x16. Make sure you either film your video in 9x16 format (which is the standard smartphone screen size) or use a video editing software platform to reformat the video size to 9x16.

The best way to spread your video to the masses is utilizing hashtags. It might feel corny doing it but the correct, trending, and relevant hashtags will help spread your video to those who are interested in those categories and also attract a larger audience than just your following.

Going viral online is a daunting challenge. For creators that don’t have internet clout or celebrity status, it’s increasingly difficult for your content to stand out - especially on Twitter. Creators have to be twice as creative and innovative with their content to really draw people’s attention to their account, especially in an online space as packed as finance.

So, Trade Secrets reached out to none other than the internet’s favorite meme doctor himself, Dr. Parik Patel, to prescribe the cure for Twitter virality - offering up what four tips he recommends for becoming a major meme account in the FinTwit community.

Tip #1: Be persistently reactive

It is imperative for new creators to understand that follower growth will be a slow grind for a bit of time that hopefully will hit a moment of explosive follower gain. It’s important to be persistent in brainstorming content ideas that are on trend and relevant.

Tip #2: Brainstorm on-trend, relevant content ideas

Creating content that capitalizes on trending topics and is event driven will be a charger for gaining followers. Brainstorming this way can enhance your content’s visibility. Why? Because the Twitter algorithm enhances content that is on trend compared to content that is off trend.

Over time, Parik developed the instinct of knowing what content will do well. He said that if an account tweets the same meme too often people will be turned off because they’ve seen it before – been there, done that. So, keeping content fresh and new will help him both creatively and with his followers’ reactions. If it is on-trend, has a great format, and is short and snappy, it will most likely be successful.

Tip #3: Virality won’t happen overnight

It’s not an easy or overnight process to go viral and build a successful Twitter account. Memes are very popular in the FinTwit space and are a great gateway into building your following. But memes alone won’t get you to Dr. Parik Patel’s level of virality. The more you post and the more trending the topic is, the more Twitter will see your content and your account exposure will skyrocket. But without a high post frequency or relevant content, you’ll become hidden in the algorithm.

Tip #4: Every piece of content doesn’t need to be viral for your account to be successful

Consistently posting and engaging with a community is the critical part. If the content that you predicted to do well ends up not performing well, it’s not the end of the world. Parik used to be particular about posting every day. However, he has since moved from that idea and shifted to posting when creativity strikes or a major event happens. This mindset helped him with having a healthy relationship with posting – if the idea or response isn’t there, don’t force it.

Podcasting may seem like a big task, but don't quit on that idea just yet, because Trade Secrets got the inside scoop from the Corporate Quitter podcaster, Gabby Ianniello! She just wrapped up her 100-episode first season, where she talked all about ditching the 9-5 with a variety of entrepreneurs and side-hustlers.

If you feel like everyone and their brother has a podcast these days, you’re not wrong. There are over 2 million podcasts on Apple Podcasts and nearly 4 million on Spotify. It’s easy to feel intimidated and lost trying to find your place in this saturated industry, especially with dominating forces like Joe Rogan and Call Her Daddy. But, they all had to start somewhere!

While a lot of people are curious about this space and may want to dabble in it, rest assured that podcasting is not as complex and chaotic as you may think it is. It's surprisingly simple (correction - surprisingly simple and free)!

And guess what – you already have an edge because Trade Secrets chatted with an expert podcaster and got all the how-tos for starting up a podcast! Creator and host of The Corporate Quitter podcast Gabby Ianniello just wrapped up her first season, featuring 100 episodes, and gave us her top six tips for starting your first podcast.

Step #1: Find a Niche You’re Actually Passionate About

Everyone thinks they need the perfect mic and the best studio set-up to be taken seriously. But more important than finding the right equipment is finding the right niche! To get started, you want to make sure you're actually discussing topics of interest – not ones that you think you “should” be doing or that may seem to be the most profitable.

If you hate what your podcast is about, you and your content will burn out. Excitement is what drives a creator and their business, at least the ones that stand the test of time.

You may be wondering: “Well I have a lot of passions, how do I choose?” Gabby recommends to her clients to record themselves on their phones talking about different topics for 30 seconds, watch it in time lapse and analyze your own body language. This exercise will point to what is working and what isn’t. If you are contracted and rigid, pass on that topic. But, if you’re visually excited and all over the place, that’s the indication of an area you should speak on.

It's also important to understand that your audience is a reflection of who you are. Gabby’s Corporate Quitter audience, for example, is mainly millennials, women and those who are out of or looking to get out of corporate. As a consumer, you understand your audience more than you think.

Step #2: Develop Out Your Schedule

Understanding the demographics and interests of your target audience helps in terms of deciding on your niche, but it also helps you pick guests and weekly topics. Gabby suggests breaking down your core topic into different sub-topics. From there, you can build out an outline and structure it into the main idea, two supporting ideas, and the main discussion points of the conversation. Similar to how you would structure an essay outline for English class (bonus - no one is grading you on this!).

Also, you need to decide on what kind of podcast style suits you best, whether that be interview, conversational, monologue, storytelling or reacting. Gabby said she knew she was a talker, so she pursued the interview route because having a conversation with someone was easier to get her two cents in while also letting them take the stage. She joked that if she was solo, she could go on for hours and hours.

Step #3: Don’t Go Broke Starting Your Pod - It's Easy to Find FREE Tools and Resources!

It is important to note that there are a lot of free tools available. Gabby said besides investing in a business course to get her into the headspace, it wasn’t too much of a financial investment to get the Corporate Quitter podcast up and running. No, you don’t need to invest thousands into renting a studio, buying expensive mics, or hiring a team of video editors. You may want to explore these options as your podcast grows, but right out the gate you don’t need it.

Here's a list of what Gabby used during her first podcast season:

• RedCircle - hosting software that spreads your content out

• Audacity - editing software

• Canva - for podcast cover art

• Foximusic - free music platform for intros and outros songs

• Zoom - platform to record interviews

• Matchmaker - networking site that connects podcast hosts and guest

• Headphones - wired or wireless, whatever you got works for a mic!

Step #4: Know You’re Going to Suck.. and That’s OK!

Know that you will inevitably suck in the beginning. That’s okay, you’re still working out the kinks and trying to find a routine. But like everything new and challenging, whether it be a new job or class, you will find your groove. And you’re not alone in that feeling.

Gabby, with so many episodes and interviews under her belt, still reflects on hating her first couple of episodes. She said that you’re going feel like a fraud, you might not like your episodes, or an interview may bomb. But just know it is just part of the process.

Step #5: Do Whatever the F**k You Want

I know, this kind of feels like an oxymoron considering what this newsletter is all about. But remember, this is your podcast! You can do whatever you want, say what you want, and talk about topics that you enjoy. At the end of the day, what matters is that you are happy and proud of the content you're putting out. Because if you're genuinely enjoying it, your audience will pick up on that. If you’re not having fun, then you have no place doing that podcast anymore.

Step #6: Don’t Confine Yourself or Be Scared to Get a Bit Weird

You change constantly as a person, and your podcast can reflect that. Corporate Quitter season 1 was all about entrepreneurship, side hustles and ditching the 9-5. But when we asked Gabby about the direction of season 2, she said that as of now – meaning it could literally change within a week and she’s open to that – she’s pivoting.

She wants to collaborate with a lot more creators, like Hannah Williams from Salary Transparent Street, who share similar missions to the Corporate Quitter. Gabby said also wants to explore more convoluted topics that are perceived as sketchy or questionable by the public, like Web3, NFTs, OnlyFans, selling feet pics online, etc. She wants to get into “weird” and taboo topics that are not as marketable as what she discussed in the first season. Gabby allows herself to stretch into new places, and the Corporate Quitter podcast can expand into new territory as a result.

So, that’s it! We have given you everything to get your podcasting journey started. Now it’s up to you to press record and get publishing!

The past few years have brought to light corporate issues that are oftentimes (intentionally) ignored - from toxic grind culture, to bad management, to corporate politics that belong on an episode of Succession. This has sadly resulted a workforce that is underpaid, burnt out, and void of passion. But how bad could it be if you just… quit? 

Gabby Ianniello is the multi-hyphenate powerhouse behind Corporate Quitter. Acting as the brand’s CEO, podcast host, creator, and personal development coach, Gabby is shaking up corporate norms by empowering people to leave their toxic 9-5 and figure out what they want to do.

2021 was known as the year of “The Great Resignation.” Why? Well, because over "47 million workers quit their jobs, many of whom were in search of an improved work-life balance and flexibility, increased compensation and a strong company culture,” according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Gabby recognized that this group needed some guidance – and helped create a safe community for them. 

Gabby has since built an engaged audience of over 46,500 on TikTok, along with an 100 episode podcast and countless resources dedicated to canceling corporate culture. Gabby is transparently and vulnerably discussing how she found herself outside of her career – and wants to help others to do it.

Job-hopping has always been perceived as a dirty word, as if it means that you can’t keep a job or you don’t have your career figured out. Gabby’s journey from graduating in 2015 to where she is now with Corporate Quitter has been one of perseverance – full of trial and error, various jobs, and starting over. 

Gabby said career pivoting has made her adaptable and comfortable with constant change. Her final push to leave her last corporate job was a story too many of us have experienced – overworked, underpaid, bad management, and corporate politics. She had no plan and was completely burnt out, but knew she needed a change.

One of the biggest investments Gabby made was not just with business courses, but with self-development, which she defines as "anything education-based outside of normal schooling." She was expanding who she was as a person, picking up business skills, embodying feminine power, and learning about coaching. While healing from all the toxicity she experienced may not have a quantifiable  ROI, it has shaped Gabby into who she is since leaving the corporate world from who she is as a person and who she is as a CEO. 

Gabby has always had big goals, but she said doesn’t set up strict plans. If you are too rigid in your plans then you can’t adapt, move, or pivot when opportunities arise.

Fighting against the engrained mantra growing up that “quitters never win,” Gabby was quitting more than just a toxic job. She said she was letting go of everything she didn’t feel good about anymore. It was an act of rebellion, in a way of positivity rather than negativity. 

As she started talking with people from different industries, like investment banking, finance, teaching, and retail, she noticed that everyone was having the same issues with poor management, terrible pay, and mental health issues. It wasn’t just an isolated or even an industry issue – it was a huge problem that span across every corner of the corporate world. Gabby wasn’t seeing people speak about these issues openly and vulnerably. Thus, the Corporate Quitter was born! She began posting and expanded her brand more as the Great Resignation happened. She bet on the trend before it was a trend.

Looking for long-term sustainability, Gabby completely switched her mindset from Corporate Quitter being a hobby to being a business she could lead as CEO. Gabby started by expanding the brand beyond  TikTok,  starting a podcast and providing services and guides for her followers. Gabby said while looking through comments and DMs, she figured out what her audience wanted. 

The point of business is to provide a solution to a problem, and Gabby is trying to figure out the formula of what works. Being fluid has been key because she has created products and gotten rid of them before if she found that her audience or she didn’t like it. She didn’t buckle down on an idea and force it to work, she went with the flow of how her and her audience felt. 

You may be wondering: How did she figure out how to price her services? Just ask the buyers! She reaches out to her audience to ask how much, if at all, would they pay for this service? This feedback has been instrumental in understanding what the audience is looking for and where she can expand her brand further.

In addition to providing resources like Quitter Starter Packs, short-form videos, and Making Money with Your Platform guides, Gabby also provides  one-on-one 90-minute strategy calls to help people who feel stuck and unhappy with their career. It’s broken down into ]three sections: 15 minutes of getting to know each other, 30 minutes of brainstorming and 45 minutes of strategy building. 

Gabby said they need someone to function as a COO with a business brain to talk through their ideas and help build a strategy. It adds value for her followers because she has the experience, skills, and guidance to light their fuse to send that idea rocket off.

Corporate Quitter’s content goes beyond just quitting that job you hate, it’s about trying to create a real change for the workforce. We are constantly faced with the pressure, both internally and externally, to find a safe and secure 9-5 job to ensure that we can pay off our loans, buy a house, and have kids. But that norm, that dated version of the American Dream, isn’t real anymore. 

Life has changed so dramatically in the last few years, in the way we make money, but also in economic aspects like inflation rates, the housing market, average salaries, and the job market. The standard 9-5 doesn’t provide people the means of living, which is why there is such a pivot to content creation, side hustles, and freelancing.

Gabby was so unhappy in the corporate structure, even though she had all the things that should make her happy. So, she thought: “How bad could it really be if she tried something different?” Jobs are like revolving doors, you can always jump back into the job market if this new idea fails.

Trade Secrets asked Gabby what she would tell someone who is unhappy with their jobs and unsure what to do next. It truly starts with understanding who you are as a person. She didn’t spend the majority of her time and money learning business, she invested in understanding herself.

After you start to figure out the right path for you, Gabby’s three pieces of advice are:

• Know what you’re getting yourself into, because it’s not easy 

  • Spend time understanding who you are as a person. It may sound ridiculous, but there is no way you’ll be able to accept thousands of dollars in brand deals or that big salary offer if you feel like you’re not worthy enough to accept it. Put in the work to figure out who you are and expand that person so you’re able to do business confidently.

• Rest is important

  • Even though it is such a non-corporate and anti-grind thing, you need dedicated rest days because they’re a necessary piece of the creative process. Don’t beat yourself up for resting because that’s where the ideas come from! 

• Expect disappointment

  • You will be disappointed because we set such high expectations for ourselves, and we get brought down when things don’t go the way we wanted. But things will work out even if they’re not in accordance with your timeline. So, the sooner you go along with life, the easier things will be and less discouragement you have which means more runway to do more.

What’s next for Gabby? Well, she is shifting Corporate Quitter to being an extension of who she is, not all that she is. She is stepping more into who she is as a person and expanding those facets of herself. 

Continuing the same great Corporate Quitter content, including season 2 of her podcast, Gabby said she is also branching out into the entertainment space with her own documentary (coming out this month). She is going with life’s flow and ready for whatever is next
