5 of the Best

Jaguar XJR-S

📈 1 year: +7.4% 5 year: +3.2% 

With its sophisticated blend of performance and luxury, the XJR-S has shown a healthy increase in value. This model’s rising popularity underscores its status as a collectible classic with a racing pedigree.

BMW Z3 M Coupe

 📈 1 year: +5.2% 5 year: +1.7% 

Known affectionately as the "clown shoe" for its unique styling, the Z3 M Coupe's value increase highlights its growing cult status. Its performance and rarity have sparked renewed interest and appreciation.

Pontiac Grand Prix (5th Gen)

📈 1 year: +6.7% 5 year: +3.0% 

This American classic has not only stood the test of time but has also seen a notable uptick in value. Its appeal lies in its blend of style, power, and comfort, making it a cherished model among collectors.

Porsche 959

📈 1 year: +25.0% 5 year: +5.9% 

An icon of innovation and speed, the 959 continues to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike. Its significant appreciation is a testament to its enduring legacy and groundbreaking technology for its time.

Bentley S2

📈 1 year: +26.0% 5 year: +3.4% 

This classic epitome of luxury has surged impressively in the past year. Its blend of elegance and performance from the early 60s has increasingly been recognized, making it a standout investment in the vintage car market.

5 of the Worst

Rolls-Royce 20/25

📉 1 year: -21.7% 5 year: -0.8% 

Despite its prestigious heritage, this pre-war luxury car has seen a significant dip. Its particularly niche market may have contributed to its current downturn.

Studebaker Lark

📉 1 year: -18.7% 5 year: -1.4% 

Once a symbol of American innovation, the Lark has unfortunately seen a sharp decline. Changing tastes and the brand's historical closure may influence its current market performance.

Audi TT Mk2

📉 1 year: -7.0% 5 year: -4.1% 

The TT Mk2, known for its design and driving dynamics, has experienced a decline. It might reflect a broader trend of wavering enthusiasm for early 21st-century affordable sports cars.

Nissan Gloria

📉 1 year: -11.6% 5 year: -0.1% 

A luxury sedan with a rich history, the Gloria's drop hints at the market's fluctuating interest in Japanese classics, possibly overshadowed by more iconic models.

Volkswagen Golf R32 (Mk4)

📉 1 year: -13.2% 5 year: -1.2% 

Despite its acclaim as a hot hatch icon, the R32 Mk4 faces a downward trend. Even modern classics are not immune to current market fluctuations.

📸 Will the Jaguar F-Type Become a Classic?

With some online chatter this week suggesting the end might be near for the Jaguar brand (as we know it, at least), I thought it a good opportunity to look at one of the company’s most popular models in recent decades.

The F-Type is a modern homage to Jaguar’s rich legacy of speed and elegance, in particular the famed E-Type.

Pontiac Star Chief

Citroen Dyane

Alfa Romeo 156

📉 1 year: -12.1% 5 year: -0.1% 

The 156, while praised for its beauty and driving dynamics, hasn't captured the classic car market's heart, reflected in its stagnant value growth. Concerns over reliability and widespread availability of parts could have impacted its investment potential.

Aston Martin DB7

📉 1 year: -12.0% 5 year: -0.2% 

Surprisingly, the DB7, a model often celebrated for its design and performance, is facing a market correction. This downturn might reflect the market's shifting tastes or the reasonable supply of DB7s.

Chrysler Crossfire

📉 1 year: -5.7% 5 year: -0.4% 

Born from the collaboration between Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz, the Crossfire's unique styling and performance aren't enough to stave off depreciation. It seems to struggle in finding its place among more iconic or nostalgic models in the classic car world.

Jaguar XJ220

📣 News: Brits Are Choosing Classic Cars Over Electric Vehicles

British motorists are still giving a big thumbs up to classic cars and a polite "no, thank you" to electric vehicles.

According to DrivingExperience.com, the demand for classic car adventures has skyrocketed by 96 percent, leaving EVs eating their dust.

Dan Jones from DrivingExperience said “There is something about driving through the countryside on a lazy spring day that is quintessentially British”.

The AA has also chipped in with some of its own research, suggesting only 16 percent of Brits are considering an EV for their next ride.

It seems the allure of petrol is still too strong, with concerns over costs and a lack of government support putting the brakes on the electric dream.

Which would I pick? 

Value-wise it would have the be the MG. With fewer examples built than the 240Z it does represent a good opportunity for appreciation, with an authentic driving experience to match.

If money were no object? 

It would be the 240Z all day long. The values being commanded shows how appreciated it is in the classic car world, with very good reason.

Its cultural impact and the role it played in establishing Japanese cars as formidable competitors on the global stage make it one of the most sought-after classics from its era.

📣 My Auction Pick of the Month

To finish off, I like to pick out an auction that jumps out at me every month. No affiliation here, simply one that catches my eye. This month it’s the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport ‘Wei Long’.

A unique one-off edition of the breath-taking open-top supercar, created in celebration of the previous Year of the Dragon in 2012.

Having been originally delivered to Switzerland, it made its way to the UK in 2016 and now resides in Monaco, having covered just over 8,000km during that time.

This is the first time this highly bespoke version of the Veyron Grand Sport has been up for sale publicly, so empty out your piggy banks and perhaps consider a treasure-hunt, because this one will be selling well into the millions 💶 💶 💶.

With several 2023 sales surpassing the $100k mark and a standout sale of $153k in September, its average 1 year sale price has now elevated to $101,244 in October, a noticeable increase from $95,141 last month.

2. Porsche 911 Carrera GTS - 991.1 (2015 - 2016)

📈 1 year: 5.9% 5 year: 0.9% 

A flurry of activity in August and September has seen values climbing, particularly after two examples of the sought-after Rennsport Reunion Edition sold in September.

While the standard 991.1 Carrera GTS models are now trading around the $100k mark, the Rennsport Reunion Editions have been achieving prices over $200k, with a notable sale at $225k in September.

3. Porsche 911 Carrera 4 - 997.1 (2005 - 2008)

📈 1 year: 5.1% 5 year: 0.9% 

The 997.1 Carrera 4 broke through the $40k barrier in October (1 year average sale price). Premium specimens have garnered over $50k recently.

Despite its rising value, it continues to be an attractive entry point for those looking to venture into Porsche 911 ownership.

A well-preserved DeLorean, the legendary car iconic for its role in the "Back to the Future" film series, has been found in a Wisconsin barn after sitting untouched for nearly 20 years.

Michael McElhattan, owner of DeLorean Midwest, a car restoration company in Illinois, was tipped off about this hidden gem by a call from New Mexico.

Upon visiting the barn, McElhattan and his team found the car in surprisingly good condition, despite signs of a mouse invasion and the impact of many long years in storage.

Impressed by its preservation, McElhattan is eager to restore the DeLorean to its former splendor.

📣 News: Kevin Hart To Showcase His Private Collection of Classic Cars

For the first time, renowned comedian and actor Kevin Hart is unveiling his treasured private collection of custom-built vehicles, the Kevin Hart Kollection, at the Los Angeles Auto Show from 17th - 26th November.

This exclusive collection, a decade in the making, features 11 vehicles, each embodying unique personalities and meticulously crafted by some of North America’s top muscle car designers and builders.

The collection will be housed in a dedicated hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center, offering attendees a glimpse into Kevin Hart’s automotive world.

Highlights include the 1970 Dodge Challenger, Bane, and the horror movie-themed 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner, Michael Myers, which sports a 940hp supercharged Hemi V8 engine and a distinctive Halloween-themed design.

“I’m pumped for people to see my cars in person,” said Hart. Here’s the full list of cars being displayed:

1. Ferrari 575M: A Rising Star with Rarity on Its Side

The Ferrari 575M Maranello, an evolution of the 550 Maranello, has been steadily catching the eye of discerning investors.

This Grand Tourer, known for its Pininfarina-designed sleekness and 5.7L V12 engine, is making noticeable strides in the market. Here's the breakdown:

• Financial Overview: The average sale price for a 575M over the last 12 months is an impressive $239,000 - a robust 23.4% jump from the previous year’s $193,500 average. While the 5-year increase is more gradual at 3.4%, it's this year’s growth that has particularly piqued investors' attention.

• Manual 575M Superamericas: The Ferrari 575M comes in a particularly rare variant that has been turbocharging its price tag: the Superamerica. A handful of these have hit the market this year, and with only 43 manual versions ever produced, these elusive cars are igniting bidding wars that have seen prices soar to over $800,000. The cherry on top? One manual 575M Superamerica fetched a whopping $978,000 in August!

So, what's driving this uptick? While the Superamericas have certainly had their impact on the average sale price, the standard 575M has also seen increased interest from collectors and investors alike.

This could be attributed to a range of factors - from a greater appreciation for its Pininfarina design and V12 engine to its evolving status as a modern classic that offers a blend of performance and luxury.

As younger collectors enter the market, there's also a renewed interest in models from the late '90s and early 2000s, which includes the 575M.

2. Lamborghini Miura: The Legend Continues to Soar

If the Ferrari 575M is a rising star, the Lamborghini Miura is a constellation in its own right. Long hailed as one of the most iconic and groundbreaking supercars in automotive history, the Miura continues to deliver astonishing returns to savvy investors. Let's take a closer look:

• Financial Overview: The average 12-month sale price for the Miura now exceeds a staggering $2 million - a robust 18% increase compared to the same time last year. With a 5-year increase sitting at a healthy 4.6%, the Miura not only remains a prized collector's item but also a worthwhile long-term investment.

• P400 and P400 SV Models: These variants are the real game-changers in the Miura lineup. In August, a P400 model stole the spotlight with a sale price of $2.26 million at the Gooding & Company Pebble Beach auction. Not to be outdone, a P400 SV fetched an eye-watering $3.58 million at the same event.

So, what's fueling this consistent ascendance in value? The Miura's legendary status, pioneering engineering, and stunning design by Marcello Gandini are long-established value drivers.

The recent record-breaking sales of P400 and P400 SV models underline the model's enduring appeal and provenance, which continue to resonate strongly with today’s collectors and investors.

When it comes to classic cars that combine beauty, performance, and investment potential, few can hold a candle to the Lamborghini Miura.

3. Lamborghini Diablo VT: Breaking Boundaries, One Auction at a Time

If we're talking about Italian supercars with immense investment potential, it's impossible to overlook the Lamborghini Diablo VT. Known for its scorching performance and audacious style, the Diablo VT has been quietly climbing the investment ladder for the past few years.

And recent activity suggests it's ready for a full-throttle ascent. Here's what you need to know:

• Financial Overview: The current 12-month average sale price sits just under $400,000, at $385,000, but if last month’s auction results are any indication, this car’s average valuation is going to be well over $400k soon. Over the past year, Diablo VT values have increased by 7.7%, with a 5-year increase of 5%.

• VT Roadster Auctions: August was a banner month for the Diablo VT, particularly the Roadster variant. Several units fetched well over $400,000 at auction, serving as a loud-and-clear signal of the model's growing appeal.

So, what's behind this valuation rise? The Diablo VT has always been a car that captures attention. The recent surge in auction prices, particularly for the Roadster versions, suggests that the market is finally catching up to its desirability.

Collectors are not just looking for icons like the Miura but also for the next big thing - and right now, the Diablo VT is fitting that bill quite nicely.

📣 Mysterious Abandoned Museum Houses Over 200 Classic Cars

YouTube channel Classic Car Rescue recently came across an abandoned car museum sheltering over 200 classic cars, including gems like the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR and vintage Rolls-Royces.

While the video keeps the location and the backstory a secret, it showcases an impressive variety of vehicles, all of which are surprisingly well-preserved, thanks to being shielded from the elements.

From muscle cars like the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 to luxury icons like classic Rolls-Royces, the extensive collection is both captivating and melancholic.

Whether the result of a failed museum venture or an overwhelming private collection, these cars await a much-needed rescue and potential future restoration.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class W116 (1973-1980)

📉 1 year: -12.0% 5 year: -6.5% 

Despite its historical significance, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W116 has struggled in the investment arena recently. Its value has declined by 12% over the last 12 months when compared to the previous period, and has a experienced a 5-year dip of 6.5%

Mercedes-Benz 500SL R107 (1980-1989)

📉 1 year: -3.6% 5 year: -0.5% 

While iconic and luxurious, the 500SL R107 has seen a slight downturn in investment value, decreasing by 3.6% over the last year and experiencing a marginal 5-year decline of 0.5%

Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG - W210 (1998 to 2002)

📉 1 year: -5.1% 5 year: -0.4% 

Once a darling for performance enthusiasts, the Mercedes E55 AMG W210 has faced a softening market. Its average value has declined by 5.1% in the last year and shows a slight 5-year drop of 0.4%

Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG - R230 (2003 to 2008)

📉 1 year: -1.5% 5 year: -0.4% 

While still a symbol of post-Millennium performance and luxury, the SL55 AMG R230 has experienced a modest decline, dropping 1.5% over the past year and showing a 5-year decrease of 0.4%

Mercedes-Benz G Wagon - 300GE/G300 - W463 (1990 to 1994)

📉 1 year: -10.9% 5 year: -0.1% 

Despite its rugged allure and status, the Mercedes G Wagon 300GE/G300 has seen a substantial value drop of 10.9% in the past year, along with a nearly flat 5-year performance at a decline of 0.1%

📣 News: Rare Ferrari 412P Berlinetta Sells for Over $30m

A 1967 Ferrari 412P Berlinetta was auctioned for $30.25 million at The Quail Auction during Monterey Car Week recently, becoming the fourth most valuable Ferrari ever sold.

The rare Ferrari, one of only two 412Ps ever made, had undergone a nine-year restoration, and is one of only five cars in history to achieve an auction price of over $30m.

📣 News: Lifelong Friends Restore Classic '73 Mustang to Support Friend with ALS

In a heartwarming act of friendship, Texas-based classic car enthusiasts Richard Watson, Brett McMath, and their companions, spent a year restoring a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 for their high school friend Craig Reagan, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2016.

The classic Mustang, which has been in Reagan's possession since he was 17, had been sitting in his garage for over two decades.

The restoration was unveiled in front of a crowd at the Valley Ranch Town Center, a special gift to Reagan and a gesture to raise ALS awareness and funds for his family.

Despite his prognosis, Reagan has lived 85 months past his diagnosis and expressed his joy at seeing his treasured car restored. He’s also created a website to share his story.

Presenters of UK-based TV show "Wheeler Dealers", Mike Brewer and Marc Priestley, have appealed for public assistance following the theft of a 1979 Mk 1 Ford Fiesta 1300S from outside their hotel this week.

Their restored Fiesta, which they describe as potentially "the best Mk1 Ford Fiesta in the country", was due to be showcased at The Motorist car festival as part of a feature for the show.

The hosts have asked fans to share any sightings of their "stolen pride and joy."

Subaru Sambar This little giant from Japan has piqued the interest of collectors recently. Its distinctive design and van versatility, coupled with its limited availability outside of Japan are key factors contributing to its investment attractiveness.

Studebaker President: The legacy of this American classic continues to age like a fine wine. This vintage gem, celebrated for its innovative design, has seen a steady increase in value over time.

Buick Reatta: This unique American coupe has been experiencing a decline. Despite its futuristic design for the era, the Reatta hasn't quite hit the mark in the collectors' market recently.

📣 News: 230 Car Barn Find to be Auctioned

Last year, firefighters in the Netherlands stumbled upon a jaw-dropping collection of classic cars while responding to a call at a property.

This secret collection, worth millions of euros, was amassed over 40 years by collector Ad Palmen, a now 82-year-old retired businessman.

Unfortunately, Mr. Palmen was diagnosed with dementia, leading to the decision to auction off his prized collection, now dubbed "The Palmen Barnfind Collection." The auction has just gone live online.

To kick us off, I’m focusing on a bold bet that I took myself back in 2021… the BMW E60 M5.

Drawn in by its pièce de résistance, the glorious 5 liter V10 engine that pumps out 507 horsepower, this M5 really is the ultimate sports sedan.

But a quick search online will have you cowering behind the couch, with horror stories of rod bearing failure and complete engine replacements rife.
