The UK's 30-year government bond yield just hit 5.85%. That is the highest level since March 1998. Most people hear "bond yield" and immediately fall asleep. Stay with us. This one actually matters.

Here is how bonds work in plain English:

• When the government needs money it borrows it by selling bonds. Think of a bond like an IOU. The yield is the interest rate the government pays you for lending them money.

• When investors get scared about inflation, they demand higher interest rates before they will lend.

• Higher yields mean higher borrowing costs for everyone. Governments, businesses, and regular people with mortgages all feel it.

Here is why inflation and bond yields move together:

• 💸 Inflation eats the value of your money over time. If you lend the government money for 30 years at 3% but inflation runs at 5%, you actually lose money in real terms. So investors demand higher yields to protect themselves.

• 🌍 The UK is dealing with the same Iran war energy shock that is hitting everyone else. UK inflation is running hot and the Bank of England is facing the same impossible choice as the Fed. Cut rates and inflation gets worse. Raise them and the economy slows.

• 🇺🇸 US 30-year Treasury yields are climbing alongside UK yields. This is a global bond market saying the same thing simultaneously. Inflation is not under control anywhere and governments are going to have to pay more to borrow money for a very long time.

Why does this matter for your stocks? Because higher bond yields compete directly with stocks for investor money. When you can earn 5.85% guaranteed from a government bond, the argument for owning risky stocks at expensive valuations gets harder to make. Money starts flowing out of stocks and into bonds. That puts downward pressure on equity markets everywhere.

👟 Nike Is At a 12-Year Low While the Market Hits All-Time Highs. Here’s What Happened.

$NKE is down 40% in 80 days and just hit its lowest price since 2014. The S&P 500 is at an all-time high. Nike is moving in the exact opposite direction and has been for a while.

Here is the problem in plain English:

• China was supposed to be Nike's biggest growth engine. Instead, Greater China revenue is expected to fall another 20% this quarter.

• Tariffs are costing Nike $1.5 billion this year alone and gross margins have declined for seven consecutive quarters. The CEO admitted the turnaround is taking "longer than expected" and pushed the recovery timeline to 2027 at the earliest.

• Meanwhile Allbirds, a shoe company days away from bankruptcy, rebranded as an AI company and did 430% in a single day. The market does not care about swooshes right now. It cares about servers.

📈 The Bull Case:

• North American sales grew 3% last quarter and the Nike Running line surged over 20%. The core business is not dead.

• Nike is one year away from becoming a Dividend Aristocrat, meaning 25 straight years of dividend increases. You get paid to wait.

• Morningstar believes Nike can return to 5% annual sales growth and double-digit margins by fiscal 2028. At this price, you are buying a world-class brand at a 12-year low valuation.

📉 The Bear Case:

• The Iran war is raising oil prices, input costs, and squeezing consumer budgets globally. Nike sells things people want, not things people need. That is a bad place to be in an inflation crisis.

• On Running, Hoka, and Chinese brands Anta and Li Ning are all taking market share while Nike is distracted by its own turnaround. The competition is not standing still.

• Management has now pushed the recovery timeline back twice. The market has run out of patience.

The Munch Take: Nike is one of the greatest brands ever built. The swoosh is recognized in every country on earth. But a great brand does not equal a great stock and right now Nike is proving that painfully. China is broken, tariffs are bleeding margins, and the turnaround keeps getting pushed further out. The stock might be interesting somewhere around here for patient investors with a 5-year horizon. But catching this falling knife requires real conviction. My wife asked me if Nike shoes were going on sale because of the stock dropping. I told her it does not work that way. She was disappointed. The shareholders are, too.

We are going to stay out of the politics here. This is purely a market story and it is a fascinating one.

Trump just filed a 113-page ethics disclosure covering 3,642 individual securities transactions in Q1 2026. That is roughly 58 trades per trading day. Every president since Lyndon B. Johnson has used a blind trust to avoid exactly this situation. Jimmy Carter sold his peanut farm. Obama held index funds and Treasury notes. Trump is actively trading individual stocks while running the country. This has genuinely never happened before.

His biggest buys were a who's who of stocks that subsequently benefited from his own policy decisions:

• 🤖 Trump bought $1 million to $5 million in $NVDA on February 10. One week later, Nvidia announced a major compute deal with Meta. He also bought $NVDA in January, days before the Commerce Department approved chip sales to Chinese customers. $NVDA is up 426% in his portfolio since purchase.

• 💻 He bought multiple seven-figure positions in $DELL starting February 10. On May 8, he publicly praised Dell at a White House event. The stock rose 12% that day.

• 🪙 He bought $COIN, $HOOD, and $SOFI while simultaneously advancing the most pro-crypto policy agenda in US history. $INTC is up 149% since his purchases, timed just before the Apple chip manufacturing deal was announced.

Can you actually trade alongside him? Technically yes, but barely. The disclosure window is 30 to 45 days, meaning by the time you see the trades, the move has almost always already happened. Trump's filing even came in late, with a handwritten note on the cover page confirming he paid late fees. By the time you read this, the Intel trade is already up 149%.

The White House insists all trades are executed through fully discretionary third-party accounts using automated computer-based systems with no direct input from Trump or his family. The timing of those automated systems is either an extraordinary coincidence or an extraordinary something else.

The Munch Take: We are not here to discuss presidential ethics. That is not our lane. What we will say is this. The man bought $NVDA, $INTC, $SNDK, and $COIN at exactly the right time while his administration was directly shaping policy for all four. Whether that is managed by an algorithm or not, the returns are real. His portfolio is up significantly across the board. Meanwhile, I spent three weeks researching $INTC and bought nothing. He apparently bought $265,000 worth in March and went to play golf. Different approach. Same market. He is up more than me. I need a moment.

🤖 A Man Lost $400,000 in Bitcoin for 11 Years. AI Found It in Minutes.

In 2015, a guy bought 5 Bitcoin for $250 each. That is $1,250 total. He then forgot part of his password and lost access to the wallet for eleven years. Those 5 Bitcoin are now worth roughly $400,000.

Traditional recovery methods failed completely. So he tried something different. He uploaded old notebooks, university files, and data from an old laptop into Claude, an AI made by a company called Anthropic. Think of Anthropic as one of the biggest AI companies in the world, similar to the company that makes ChatGPT. The AI found a hidden connection between an old wallet file and his incomplete password that no human or traditional software had spotted. The password turned out to be "lol420f*ckthePOLICE!:)". Eleven years of lost money. Recovered by an AI in a single session.

He said he is naming his kid after Dario Amodei, Anthropic's CEO. That is commitment and I don’t entirely blame him.

Here is the bigger picture. Bitcoin is sitting around $82,000 right now and slowly climbing back toward its all-time high. But this story is not really about Bitcoin. 📈 Three Things Sent The Market Ripping Yesterday. All Of Them Are Big.

Yesterday was a good day. New all-time highs, green across the board, and three genuine catalysts that actually justified a rally for once.

Here is what drove it:

• 🇺🇸🇨🇳 Trump and Xi agreed that the Strait of Hormuz should remain a free waterway and that Iran should not be able to impose payments on shipping traffic. Xi also told the room "we should be partners, not rivals." Whether that holds is another question. But those words coming from Xi publicly moved markets instantly. Tech, chips, and everything connected to global trade ripped hard.

• 🤖 The US approved sales of Nvidia's H200 AI chips to select Chinese firms. $NVDA jumped 4.36%. $AVGO gained 4.26%. Jensen Huang flying to Beijing as part of Trump's delegation was not a coincidence. It was a negotiating chip that just paid off.

• ₿ The CLARITY Act cleared the Senate Banking Committee in a 15-9 vote. $COIN ripped 9%. Bitcoin crossed $82,000. Crypto finally got its moment and the market priced it in fast.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both closed at fresh all-time highs. The Dow crossed 50,000. Seven weeks of straight gains. The rally that nobody believed in back in March has now added over $10 trillion in market cap.

The Munch Take: Yesterday had three legitimate reasons to rally and the market used all three of them. The Strait of Hormuz language from Xi is the most important. If China is publicly committed to keeping shipping lanes open, oil stays contained and the inflation picture gets a lot less scary. That changes the entire Fed narrative. Yesterday was a genuinely good day. Not every green day deserves that label. This one does.

🚀 Massive Day For Crypto. The CLARITY Act Just Cleared Its Biggest Hurdle.

It happened. The CLARITY Act cleared the Senate Banking Committee today in a 15-9 vote, the most significant step forward for crypto regulation in American history. Every Republican voted yes. Two Democrats crossed the aisle to make it bipartisan. Four months of delays, 100-plus amendments and a banking lobby revolt later. It’s finally moving.

The market responded instantly:

• ₿ Bitcoin surged above $82,000 on the news. The long-term thesis just got a major piece of institutional validation.

• 🪙 $COIN ripped 9% and led all crypto-related stocks higher. $MSTR Strategy climbed 8%. XRP jumped 4%. We bought Coinbase at $160. Today, it feels good to be patient.

• 📈 $CRCL Circle, which had been down 6% earlier in the session, reversed and closed green. The stablecoin compromise that unlocked this vote is already paying dividends.

What happens next? The House already passed its own version of the bill last year. The two versions now need to be reconciled before a final vote sends it to Trump's desk. The White House is targeting July 4th for Trump's signature, America's 250th birthday as the moment crypto gets its legal framework. The symbolism would be hard to beat.

The remaining hurdles are real. Democrats still have unresolved concerns around law enforcement and an ethics provision preventing government officials from profiting on crypto. Several senators voted yes today while explicitly reserving the right to vote no on the Senate floor if those issues are not addressed. This is not done. But yesterday was the biggest gate and it’s now open.

The Munch Take: Yesterday validated everything we have been saying about the crypto regulatory thesis. The CLARITY Act does not make Bitcoin go to $200,000 overnight. What it does is remove the single biggest institutional barrier to crypto adoption. When the rules are clear, the big money comes in. And when the big money comes in, everything already inside goes up. We are staying long $COIN and $BTC. The July 4th finish line is close enough to see now.

🤖 $NVDA advanced 4.39% after the US approved sales of its H200 AI chips to a select group of Chinese firms. The chip restrictions are loosening and Nvidia is the first one through the door.

🚗 $HMC Honda just reported its first annual loss since 1957. Not a typo. Since 1957. The Iran war, rising input costs, and a brutal EV transition have combined to end a 69-year winning streak. That is a staggering number to sit with.

🧊 $YETI gained 6.13% on an earnings beat driven by strong US demand for drinkware and coolers. Americans are still buying $40 tumblers in a rough economy. YETI has figured something out about brand loyalty that most companies can only dream about.

🎟️ $STUB StubHub ripped 13.7% after beating on both revenue and profitability and reaffirming its full-year guidance. People are still paying absurd amounts of money for concert and sports tickets. The live events business is completely recession-proof, apparently.

🔋 $F Ford rose 6.63% after Morgan Stanley called out its battery technology and energy storage business as a serious long-term competitive advantage. The market has been sleeping on this part of Ford. Morgan Stanley just set an alarm.

✈️ $BA Boeing dropped 4.73% after Trump's China visit produced a smaller aircraft order than Wall Street was hoping for. The deal exists. It is just not big enough. Investors wanted a feast and got a snack.

🍔 $JACK Jack in the Box cratered 14.15% after missing on both revenue and earnings. When you miss on everything in this market, the stock pays double.

CHART OF THE DAY

🥩 Ground Beef Just Hit $7 a Pound. This Is Terrible News For Gym Bros Everywhere.

Protein is getting expensive. Average ground beef prices broke $7 a pound for the first time in history, while steak surged past $13 a pound. Ground beef has gone up 77% since 2020, when it cost $3.89. That is not inflation. That’s a completely different product at this point.

Here is why it happened:

• The US cattle herd is at a 75-year low. Persistent drought, high feed costs, and rising production expenses have wiped out millions of animals.

• Import restrictions on Mexican livestock and a 76% tariff on Brazilian beef have cut off the two biggest alternative sources simultaneously. Less supply. Same demand. Classic recipe for a price explosion.

Will it come down? Not soon.

The Farm Bureau says cattle numbers will not recover until at least 2028. The USDA is projecting another 10% price increase in 2026. The Justice Department just opened an antitrust investigation into major beef producers for potential price fixing. Even if they find something, investigations take years.

Can traders take advantage? Sort of.

Cattle futures trade on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange under the ticker $LE for live cattle and $GF for feeder cattle. Both have ripped. Shares of $TSN Tyson Foods have also caught a bid as higher beef prices mean fatter margins for the processors. You don’t need to become a rancher. You just need to own the people selling to the rancher.

The Munch Take: $7 ground beef is the clearest sign that inflation is not just a headline number. It is showing up in the most basic item in the American grocery cart. The gym bros are quietly switching to chicken. The steak guys are switching to ground beef. The ground beef guys are switching to eggs. And the egg guys are in full crisis mode because eggs are also expensive. My wife came home from the grocery store last week and handed me the receipt without saying a word. That was the most effective inflation briefing I have ever received.

• Right now nobody knows which government agency is in charge of crypto. Is Bitcoin a security? A commodity? Depends who you ask.

• The CLARITY Act splits crypto oversight cleanly between two regulators: securities-like tokens go to the SEC and commodity-style assets go to the CFTC.

• That clarity alone unlocks billions in institutional money that has been sitting on the sidelines waiting for rules.

Polymarket currently puts the odds of this passing in 2026 at 75%. The White House is targeting July 4 for Trump's signature, which would be an incredible moment of symbolism. The single biggest risk? One uncommitted Republican senator named John Kennedy could block the entire thing. All 13 Republican votes are needed and his hesitation has nothing to do with crypto policy. One senator. One vote. That is how close this is.

Why does this matter for your portfolio right now?

• ₿ Citi analysts have tied their $143,000 Bitcoin price target directly to CLARITY Act passage, projecting an additional $15 billion in ETF inflows once the bill clears Congress. Bitcoin is currently sitting around $81,000. That is a lot of upside on the table.

• 🪙 $COIN Coinbase is one of the biggest winners if this passes. Regulatory clarity is the single thing that has held institutional money back from crypto exchanges. We bought Coinbase at $160 and it’s now sitting around $200. A clean passage today could be the catalyst that takes it meaningfully higher.

• 🏦 The banking lobby is actively trying to kill this bill. Big banks do not want crypto regulated because regulated crypto competes directly with their business. That tells you everything about whose side you should be on.

If this bill does not pass before May 21, when Congress goes on Memorial Day recess, the next realistic window is after the 2026 midterm elections. That is potentially years away. The urgency is real.

The Munch Take: This is the moment the entire crypto industry has been waiting for since Bitcoin was invented. Not a price pump. Not a meme. Actual rules that let real institutions put real money into digital assets without fear of a surprise lawsuit. If it passes today, expect crypto to rip and $COIN to lead the charge. If one senator kills it, the whole thing goes dark for years. Watch the 10:30 am vote like it is the last two minutes of a tied Game 7. Because that is basically what it is.

📷 GoPro Is Down 88% in Five Years. Here’s What Happened.

If you put $10,000 into $GPRO in May 2021 you have $1,189 today. That is not a typo and it is not a rounding error. That is an almost complete destruction of capital in five years.

Here is what went wrong:

• GoPro built one of the coolest products ever made and then ran out of ideas.

• The action camera market got crowded fast. DJI ate their lunch on drones. Smartphones kept getting better. And most people who bought a GoPro discovered they used it twice and left it in a drawer.

• Revenue fell 26% in the most recent quarter. Gross margin collapsed from 32% to just 4.3%. The net loss widened to $80.8 million on $99 million in revenue. They are spending nearly as much as they make and have almost nothing left in the tank.

The company's own management flagged "substantial doubt" about GoPro's ability to survive as a going concern within the next twelve months. That is corporate speak for "we might not make it." The CEO ended the last earnings call by saying they are exploring a potential sale of the company. That is not a growth strategy. That is a goodbye speech.

📈 The Bull Case:

• GoPro has genuine brand recognition, real IP, and manufacturing capabilities that could be worth something to the right acquirer. A takeover at even a small premium would crush the shorts.

• The company just launched the high-end MISSION 1 camera and is exploring defense and aerospace markets. Long shots. But long shots are all they have left.

• At $1.09 a share the stock is priced for death. Any good news hits hard on a low base.

📉 The Bear Case:

• Total liabilities exceed total assets. Cash sits at $40.7 million against $99.9 million in debt. The math is simply and not friendly.

• Four consecutive years of revenue decline with no floor in sight.

• Your iPhone shoots better video than a GoPro now and it fits in your pocket. That is not a solvable problem.

The Munch Take: GoPro is a cautionary tale about what happens when a company builds a brilliant product and mistakes product popularity for business durability. The brand is real. The camera is genuinely good. But the business is broken. A buyout is the only realistic happy ending here. Without one, this stock is heading somewhere that makes $1.09 look expensive. My wife asked me last weekend if we should buy some GoPro stock because it’s so cheap. I told her cheap is not the same as good value. She nodded and walked away. First time in recent memory that she actually agreed with me.

📈 All Time Highs. A New Fed Chair. The Ugliest Inflation Number In Years. Buckle Up.

Yesterday was one of the most eventful days in the market this year and almost none of it pointed in the same direction. The market hit an all-time high. Inflation came in ugly (again) and the Senate confirmed a new Fed Chair. All in one day.

Let's break it down:

• 📈 The S&P 500 posted its highest close in history, now up 18% from its March 30th low. That’s $10.4 trillion in market cap added back in just six weeks. The rally has been one of the fastest recoveries ever recorded.

• 🏦 The Senate confirmed Kevin Warsh as the new Federal Reserve Chair in a 54-45 vote, the most partisan confirmation in Fed history. Warsh is seen as more aligned with Trump and more open to rate cuts, but the irony is brutal. He just got the job and may have to raise rates instead.

• 🔥 PPI, which measures what businesses pay before passing costs to consumers, surged 6% annually and jumped 1.4% in a single month. That is the biggest monthly jump since March 2022. Economists are now expecting CPI to break above 4% in next month's report. That would be the highest reading in three years.

When you combine all of these factors, the market’s reaction yesterday is genuinely strange. Celebrating all-time highs while wholesale inflation is running at 6% annually? And a new Fed Chair inheriting a situation where rate cuts look increasingly impossible? Markets went from pricing in three rate cuts this year to now debating whether a rate hike is coming. That is a complete reversal of the narrative in six weeks without the market reacting. At all.

Trump said inflation is "just short-term" and will drop to 1.5% once the Iran war ends. Economists disagree. Even if a deal gets signed tomorrow, it takes months for oil prices to normalize and filter through to consumer prices.

The Munch Take: The stock market and inflation are both at all-time highs. That’s not something you say very often. Regardless of what’s going on, the market keeps shrugging and keeps going green. Either the rally knows something the inflation numbers don’t or the inflation numbers are about to remind the rally who is actually in charge. We’ll find out soon enough.

🇺🇸🇨🇳 Trump and Xi Are Meeting Today. Here Is What's Actually at Stake.

Today’s schedule reads like a season finale. State banquet. Bilateral meeting. Friendship photo. Trillion-dollar deals on the table. This is not a routine diplomatic visit.

Trump landed in Beijing yesterday for his first visit to China since 2017. Last time, Xi rolled out the Forbidden City dinner and Trump left with $253 billion in trade deals. China is in a much stronger position today. The trade war did not slow their export growth and Xi knows it.

Here are the three things that matter most for markets:

• 💰 Trade. China needs to recommit to buying US agricultural products and stop using Boeing as a political chess piece. American farmers and $BA shareholders are watching every word.

• 💻 Tech. The US currently bans $NVDA and $AMD from selling their most advanced chips to China. If those restrictions ease, both stocks rip immediately. China also controls rare earth minerals that the entire US tech industry depends on. That card is still on the table.

• 🏝️ Taiwan. Trump put US arms sales to Taiwan on the agenda. China wants the US to back away from its support of the island. An $11 billion arms package promised in December has not been delivered yet. Beijing has noticed.

Looming over all of it is Iran. China is Iran's biggest oil customer. The US wants the Strait reopened. Beijing has more leverage over Tehran than anyone else in that room. But using it will cost something and nobody knows what Trump is willing to give up to get it.

Trump did not fly over alone. Elon Musk wants approval to sell $TSLA Full Self Driving in China. Jensen Huang wants chip restrictions lifted. Tim Cook wants supply chain stability. Every CEO on that plane has billions of dollars riding on what gets said in the next 48 hours.

The Munch Take: This is the most consequential meeting for markets in years. A good outcome on trade, chips, and Iran in the same 48-hour window could add trillions in global market value overnight. A bad outcome could give back everything the rally built since March. The next two days deserve your full attention.

🤑 Nvidia Just Became the First $5.5 Trillion Company in History

We are one of the few newsletters that doesn’t get overly excited about Nvidia. Something about it. But this story is too big to ignore. $NVDA just became the first company in history to hit a $5.5 trillion market cap. It is now worth more than the entire economy of every country on earth except the US and China. Does that make sense? We are going to say no.

The stock is up over 84% in the past 12 months and has gained more than 14 times its value since the end of 2022. Jensen Huang flying to Beijing with Trump did not hurt either.

📈 The Bull Case:

• Nvidia is expected to report $78 billion in revenue next week, representing 77% year over year growth. Jensen Huang has already said the company will generate "at least" $1 trillion from Blackwell and Vera Rubin chip sales by end of 2027.

• BofA just raised its AI data center market outlook to $1.7 trillion by 2030. Nvidia controls 80% of that market. The math is enormous.

• Nvidia trades at 46 times forward earnings. For a company growing revenue at 77%, that number has been justified so far. But it leaves zero room for error. One disappointing quarter and the math gets very uncomfortable very fast.

📉 The Bear Case:

• Nvidia quietly cut its next-generation Vera Rubin GPU production target by 25% due to memory supply delays. The next big revenue catalyst just got pushed into 2027.

• The top five tech stocks now account for over a quarter of the entire S&P 500 by weight. If Nvidia stumbles, the whole market feels it.

• Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are all building their own custom AI chips to reduce Nvidia dependency. That threat is real and growing every quarter.

The Munch Take: People who bought Nvidia two years ago are sitting on life-changing gains and that is genuinely fantastic. Nobody is taking that away from them. But walking in today and buying the first $5.5 trillion company in history, right before a massive earnings print, with wholesale inflation running hot and the Fed potentially hiking rates? That is not investing. That is hoping. If you missed this one, we think there are far better opportunities with more upside and less downside risk right now. Do not go chasing a stock because the number keeps going up. That is the oldest mistake in the book.

🇺🇸🇨🇳 The Entire US Economy Just Landed in Beijing. Here Is What Happens Next.

Trump, Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Tim Cook, Larry Fink, and the CEO of Boeing all just stepped off Air Force One in China together. That is not a diplomatic delegation. That is the American economy walking in through the front door. Credit where it is due. Bringing the most important CEOs in the country to the negotiating table is exactly the right move.

This is the first time a US president has visited China in nearly a decade. The summit has been delayed twice, first by the Iran war, then by stalled preliminary talks. On the agenda: trade, Taiwan, AI guardrails, and what role China plays in ending the Iran conflict. China is Iran's largest trading partner and the biggest buyer of its oil. Beijing has more leverage over Tehran than anyone else at this table.

Here is the best and worst case for markets:

• 🟢 Best case: China agrees to buy US agricultural products and Boeing aircraft, a joint Board of Trade gets announced, and Xi quietly signals to Tehran that the Strait of Hormuz needs to reopen. Oil crashes. Markets rip. The rally gets a whole new leg.

• 🟡 Base case: Both sides announce symbolic wins, pose for photos, and agree to keep talking. No structural change but the relationship stabilizes. Markets shrug and grind higher.

• 🔴 Worst case: Trump says something off-script about Taiwan, China walks away from the table, and rare earth restrictions get tightened. Tech stocks get hit hard overnight.

The Munch Take: The optics of this trip alone are worth something. The last time Trump visited Beijing in 2017, Xi staged a Forbidden City dinner and announced $250 billion in deals. This trip is more complicated, and the stakes are higher. But having Jensen Huang in the room when AI chip restrictions get discussed is not an accident. Having Elon Musk there when Tesla's China business gets discussed is not an accident. Trump brought his best cards. Now we see how Xi plays his.

🏠 Stocks vs. Real Estate: The Math Is Not Even Close

My wife asked me to fix the bathroom faucet last weekend. I held the drill for approximately four seconds before she took it from me and called a plumber. That ended up costing $340. That is the part nobody puts in the real estate investment thesis.

Here is what the chart shows in plain English. Since 1970, the S&P 500 has returned roughly 70 times its starting value after adjusting for inflation. The median US home price has returned about 15 times. It’s not even close. The stock market has lapped real estate several times over on a pure returns basis.

But here is why this debate never dies:

• 🏡 Real estate comes with real tax advantages. Mortgage interest deductions, capital gains exemptions on primary residences, and depreciation on investment properties are all tools the stock market simply does not offer.

• 🔧 Leverage works differently in real estate. A $50,000 down payment controls a $500,000 asset. Your returns are calculated on the full value, not just what you put in. That math can close the gap fast in the right market.

• 👀 Some people just need to see something physical. You can’t drive past your S&P 500 index fund. You can’t point at it from the car and tell your kids you own it. For a lot of people, that tangibility is genuinely worth something.

The headaches are real, though. Mortgages, maintenance, property taxes, insurance, plumbers, contractors, and the constant creeping feeling that something is about to break. The stock market has never called you at 11pm because the hot water heater stopped working.

The Munch Take: The pure math favours stocks. It has always favoured stocks. But real estate built more middle-class wealth in this country than anything else in the last fifty years because it forced people to save through mortgage payments when they never would have saved voluntarily. Sometimes the second-best investment with the best behaviour beats the best investment with the worst behaviour. Either way, my wife disagrees with this entire analysis and thinks we should buy a rental property. I prefer the stock market. She’ll probably win.

🔥 Inflation Just Hit a Three-Year High. The Market Finally Noticed.

Gas is $4.54 a gallon. Airfare is up 21%. Groceries cost more every single week. And somehow, the market is only now acting surprised about inflation. Better late than never, I suppose.

April CPI came in at 3.8% year over year, the highest reading since May 2023 and above the 3.7% Wall Street expected. The market sold off hard and broadly. Tech got hit. Chips got hit. Everything got hit.

Here is what the numbers actually look like for real people:

• ⛽️ Gasoline is up 28.4% year over year and energy prices accounted for over 40% of the entire CPI increase. The Iran war is not an abstract macro event anymore. It’s showing up at every gas station in America, every single day.

• ✈️ Airfare inflation hit 20.7% annually, and food at home prices posted their biggest monthly jump since August 2022. The cost of living is genuinely uncomfortable right now for most Americans.

• 📉 Wages fell 0.5% for the month and are down 0.3% annually in real terms. Real terms means after inflation is factored in. Your paycheck went up but prices went up faster. You are losing ground without realizing it.

What does this mean for the Fed? Everything. Traders are no longer pricing in any rate cuts at all in 2026. Just months ago, the market was expecting three cuts this year. Now, prediction markets put the odds of an actual rate hike at 31%. A rate hike. Not a cut. A hike. Let that sink in.

The Munch Take: The market spent six weeks ripping to all-time highs while gas prices were at $4.54, groceries were climbing every week, and airfare was up 21%. Yesterday it finally read the receipt. The rally was real, and earnings supported it. But inflation this sticky with an Iran war still unresolved means the Fed is completely boxed in. No cuts. Possibly hikes. That changes the math on expensive tech stocks fast. Yesterday was a warning shot. Whether the market listens is another question entirely.

The Warren Buffett Indicator just crossed 230% for the first time in history. To put that in plain English, the total value of every publicly traded stock in America is now 2.3 times the entire US economy. Buffett himself once said anything above 200% was playing with fire. We are now 30 points past that threshold with no signs of slowing down.

Yesterday felt ugly for a few hours. The inflation print came in hot, tech sold off, and for a moment, it looked like the rally was finally cracking. Then the market recovered by the close, and everyone went back to feeling fine. That one-day wobble is a good reminder of where we actually are.

Two months ago, people were genuinely terrified of a crash. The S&P was down hard, sentiment was awful, and every financial headline was doom. The people who deployed cash into that dip are sitting on 16% gains right now. The people who waited for more pain missed the entire recovery.

Here is the honest truth about where we go from here:

• 📈 We are invested. When the market is at all-time highs you need exposure or you lose. The rally has been real and earnings have supported it. Sitting entirely in cash right now is painful.

• 💵 We are also holding cash. Not because we think a crash is coming tomorrow. Because when it does come, and it always does, we want dry powder ready to deploy. That gap between all-time highs and fair value is eventually going to close.

• ⏳ The waiting game is real. Could the market stay this expensive for another 12 months? Absolutely. Could it stay frothy for two years? History says yes. Timing a correction at 230% on the Buffett Indicator is a fool's errand. Being ready for one is not.

The Munch Take: The most expensive market in history does not mean a crash is coming tomorrow. It means the margin for error is thinner than it has ever been. We play this by staying invested enough to win if the rally continues and keeping enough cash to take advantage when it does not. That line is different for everyone. But the worst move right now is sitting in 100% cash waiting for a drop that may not come for a year or more. The second worst move is being 100% invested with nothing left to deploy when it finally does. Find your line and hold it.

💻️ $NVDA Well Fargo raised their Nvidia price target to $315. Considering the stock is at $220 right now, it’s safe to say they’re bullish.

✈️ $UAL United Airlines flight attendants ratified a new contract that will give them 31% raises this summer. I’m currently considering a career change. Considering the stock is already down 15% this year, I can’t imagine this is good news for their bottom line.

💻 $INTC dropped 6.82% giving back a chunk of last week's Apple deal gains. Hot inflation and rising rate hike odds hit the high-multiple chip names hardest today.

💊 $HIMS cratered roughly 14% after a mixed Q1 earnings report. Revenue of $608 million missed estimates, EPS missed badly, and while the company raised full-year revenue guidance, it cut its profit outlook. The transition from cheap compounded GLP-1 drugs to branded Ozempic and Wegovy is crushing margins. The business is growing. The profitability is not.

👕 $UAA Under Armour cratered 17% to close out the day as one of the biggest losers in the entire market. No specific catalyst beyond broad consumer sentiment weakness and a stock that was already fragile heading into a tough macro day. Sometimes bad days just find the weakest names.

Waymo just recalled 3,800 robotaxis because the cars were driving into floods. Minor bug. Totally fine. Your driverless car just needs a small software update so it stops trying to swim.

On April 20, an unoccupied Waymo robotaxi in San Antonio drove into a flooded road and was swept into Salado Creek. The software flaw allowed vehicles to maintain speed when entering standing water rather than stopping. The fix is being pushed over the air like a phone update. No service center required. The less good news: this is now the fourth recall Waymo has issued in two years, following crashes with a towed vehicle, parking gates, telephone poles, and school buses.

$GOOGL barely reacted. That tells you everything. Waymo is valued at $126 billion, delivers 500,000 rides a week, and is targeting 1 million weekly rides by year end. One soggy robotaxi is not derailing that story.

$TSLA launched in Austin in June 2025 and has since expanded to Dallas and Houston, but its unsupervised fleet sits at just 25 verified vehicles across all three cities. Tesla is losing the battle today but the war is a different conversation. Waymo's robotaxi costs an estimated $100,000 to $200,000 per vehicle to build. Tesla's Cybercab is targeting under $30,000. At scale, that cost advantage is not just a detail. It is the entire business model. Tesla just needs to actually get there.

The Munch Take: Waymo driving into a creek is funny but the technology is serious stuff. The robotaxi market is real, the prize is enormous, and right now Waymo is lapping the field while Tesla has 25 cars across three cities. Neither story is particularly reassuring. Maybe avoid booking a Waymo during a Texas thunderstorm for now.

🎮 eBay Said No. And They Were Not Polite About It.

"Neither credible nor attractive." That is a corporate rejection letter written by someone who was genuinely annoyed.

eBay's board officially rejected GameStop's $56 billion takeover bid Tuesday morning, citing serious doubts about how Cohen planned to actually pay for it. The board also flagged concerns about GameStop's corporate governance, executive pay structure, and the sheer amount of debt the combined company would carry. It was not a soft no. It was a door slam.

The market had already sniffed this out. $EBAY never traded anywhere near the $125 offer price, sitting around $107 the entire time. Today it fell another 1% on the news. $GME dropped 4%. Nobody is surprised. The deal was always priced for failure.

Here is the problem Cohen faced from day one. GameStop had $9 billion in cash and a $20 billion commitment letter from TD Bank. That still left a significant funding gap to close a $56 billion deal. eBay's board found that gap and used it as the primary reason to walk away.

But this is not necessarily over. Cohen had already said publicly he was prepared to take the offer directly to eBay shareholders and call a special meeting, bypassing the board entirely. That is a proxy fight. Expensive, messy, and very Ryan Cohen.

The Munch Take: We said from day one this was a long shot. Offering to buy a company four times your size, with half the payment in meme stock, without telling the target company first, is not a traditional acquisition strategy. Cohen is smart and has surprised people before. But eBay's board just called his bluff in writing and put it on the record. The next move is his. If he walks away, this was the most expensive press release in recent memory. If he goes hostile, things get genuinely interesting. Either way, his autographed pizza slice probably is not going to close the funding gap.

🍫 Your Chocolate Is Getting More Expensive. Here Is Why.

I checked my credit card statement last week and nearly fell off my chair at what I had spent on chocolate. I was ready to have a serious conversation with myself about my habits. Turns out it wasn’t me. It was cocoa prices. I feel much better now.

Cocoa just had its fourth-best day in history, ripping over 12% in a single session.

Three things hit at the same time:

• 💵 The US dollar weakened, which automatically makes commodities priced in dollars more expensive. A massive number of traders had been betting cocoa would fall, and when it ripped instead, they all rushed to close their losing bets at once, sending prices even higher. Classic short squeeze.

• 🌦️ El Niño is threatening next year's harvest in Ivory Coast and Ghana, which together produce over 60% of the world's cocoa. StoneX just cut its global surplus forecast nearly in half. Less supply coming means higher prices now.

• 🛢️ The prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz is raising shipping costs, fuel prices, and fertilizer costs for cocoa farmers in West Africa. The Iran war is now showing up in your chocolate bar.

For context, cocoa futures hit an all-time high of nearly $13,000 per tonne in late 2024 before crashing back down to around $4,700 today. So while today's move feels dramatic, we are still well below the peak.

Can traders take advantage? Yes, but carefully. Cocoa futures trade on the NYMEX and ICE exchanges in contracts of 10 metric tonnes each. Retail investors can get exposure through commodity ETFs that hold agricultural futures. But this market moves fast and hard in both directions. Today's 12% gain can become next week's 12% loss if El Niño fears ease or the Iran situation resolves.

That is a man who makes chocolate for a living, telling you this is the new normal. The Iran war is now affecting everything from gas stations to grocery stores to your afternoon Kit Kat. It all connects. My wife told me to stop buying expensive chocolate last month. I told her I was hedging against commodity inflation. She was not impressed. She is rarely impressed.

🕊️ The Iran Deal Is On Life Support. The Market Doesn’t Care. Yet.

Yesterday, Trump called the Iran peace deal "on life support." Then he invited Elon Musk to join his Beijing summit with Xi Jinping. Then the market erased all its losses and turned green anyway. We are living in interesting times.

Here is the honest state of play heading into today:

• 🌡️ April CPI drops this morning at 8:30. Consensus expects headline inflation at 3.7% year over year, the highest reading in nearly three years. Bank of America has already abandoned all hopes of a rate cut in 2026. JPMorgan has three scenarios mapped out and none of them are particularly comfortable.

• 🇨🇳 Trump heads to Beijing this week for a face-to-face summit with Xi Jinping. Musk, Tim Cook, Larry Fink, and other major CEOs are joining the delegation. Trade, AI guardrails, Taiwan, and the Iran war are all on the table. One productive headline out of Beijing and this market will keep ripping. One bad one and it gives it all back.

• 🕊️ Iran peace talks are stalling. Trump called the latest proposal unacceptable and Iran executed a student on espionage charges the same day talks were supposed to progress. Oil is watching every word.

So how do you balance all of this? The market has made its bet clear. It is pricing in a deal, a soft CPI, and a productive China summit all at once. That is a lot of optimism stacked on top of each other.

And if that isn’t bullish enough, recession odds on prediction markets just hit an all-time low of 17%. The market is not scared. If anything, it is dangerously relaxed.

The Munch Take: Anyone sitting in cash right now has watched the market climb 16% in 27 trading days and it stings. But chasing an all-time high the morning before a potentially ugly inflation print is not a strategy. It is impatience dressed up as conviction. Today’s CPI is the most important number this week. If it comes in hot, this rally gets its first real test. If it comes in soft, the party continues. Either way, this is not the week to make a reckless move in either direction.

🥇 Gold and Silver Are Having a Moment. Here’s Why.

Gold and silver just added an insane $1.1 trillion in combined value in just four hours on a random Monday. That is not a typo.

Here is what is happening in plain English:

1. When the world feels scary, people buy gold and silver. Right now the world feels pretty scary.

2. Iran is still at war, inflation is still sticky, and government debt keeps climbing everywhere.

3. Gold and silver are what people run to when they don’t trust paper money anymore.

Gold hit an all-time high of $5,589 back in January 2026 and has since pulled back about 16%. Yesterday’s rally is bringing it back toward that level. Silver's all-time high was $121.67, also set in January 2026. With silver currently sitting around $85 an ounce, it is still about 30% away from that record. Silver has more ground to recover but also more room to run.

Why is silver moving so fast? Two reasons:

1. Iran war fears and rising inflation expectations sent investors rushing into precious metals yesterday morning.

2. Silver also has industrial uses in solar panels, electric vehicles, and AI data centers, so it gets a double boost from both fear and technology demand at the same time.

Goldman Sachs projects gold heading back toward $5,500 by early 2027. The most aggressive analysts see $6,000 by year's end.

The Munch Take: Gold and silver are doing exactly what they are supposed to do. The world is uncertain, money is losing value, and hard assets are catching a bid. Gold is 16% from its all-time high. Silver is 30% away. Neither gap seems unreachable, given what is happening globally. My wife bought gold earrings last year and is now technically outperforming half the hedge funds in New York. She does not know that. I am not going to tell her.

🍔 $WEN Wendy’s dropped 7.4% after JPMorgan cut its rating, citing slowing same-store sales and no clear direction from management. There is also just something fundamentally suspicious about a square burger.

🎯 $TGT Target slipped 5.44% as analysts raised fresh doubts about whether the new CEO can actually turn this business around. Target has been searching for a growth story for two years. I thought it was my wife’s shopping habits. The market doesn’t think her pillow obsession is enough.

💉 $MRNA Moderna reversed earlier gains and fell 2.7% after health officials downplayed the risk of another pandemic. Moderna needs the world to be scared to have a good quarter. Yesterday the world was not scared enough.

🇮🇳 India's Prime Minister Just Told 1.4 Billion People to Stop Buying Gold

When the leader of the world's most populous country goes on national television and tells citizens to stop buying gold, avoid foreign travel, and use less fuel, that is an austerity speech. The Indian stock market responded accordingly.

The Sensex plunged over 1,300 points Monday. Jewellery stocks got destroyed. Titan, Kalyan Jewellers, and Senco Gold all crashed up to 12% in a single session.

Why is Modi doing this? The Iran war is draining India's finances fast:

• 🛢️ India spent $174.9 billion on crude oil last year, representing 22% of everything it imports. With oil above $104 a barrel, that bill is growing every month.

• 🥇 India is the world's second largest gold buyer at $72 billion annually. International trade runs on US dollars, not rupees, so every gold purchase drains India's national dollar reserves. With oil already hammering that account, the country needs every dollar it has left for fuel. Gold jewelry can wait.

• 📉 UBS just cut India's growth forecast, calling the Iran conflict "a historically large energy shock." One of the fastest growing economies on earth is visibly slowing down.

What does this mean for American investors? India is a $3.7 trillion economy. When it slows, global growth slows with it. A squeezed Indian middle class buys fewer iPhones, clicks fewer ads, and orders less from Amazon.

The Munch Take: When a head of state asks citizens to stop buying gold for weddings, the Iran situation has moved well beyond a regional conflict. This is global economic damage in real time. The Iran war is not just an oil story anymore. It is a growth story. And today India showed exactly how that plays out.

📉 $406 Million Lost. $871,000 Earned. Do The Math.

$DJT just reported its Q1 2026 earnings. Here are the numbers in plain English. The company lost $406 million in one quarter while bringing in just $871,200 in actual revenue. That is not a typo. The losses are nearly 500 times bigger than the revenue.

Before you panic, most of that loss is not cash walking out the door. The bulk of it came from $244 million in paper losses on Bitcoin holdings and $108 million in investment losses, because the company bought Bitcoin near last summer's peak at around $108,000 per coin and crypto prices fell hard in Q1.

Now the ownership picture. Trump personally owns about 65% of the company. At today's price that stake is worth roughly $1 billion. At the peak of the 2024 euphoria it was worth over $4 billion. He has lost $3 billion on paper since the high. Here is the part that stings for everyday investors though. Insiders got their shares at near-zero cost when the company went public. Retail investors who chased the headlines paid full market price and have absorbed almost all the downside. The stock is down over 85% from its peak. The founders are fine. The people who bought at $60 are not.

📈 The Bull Case:

• Trump Media is merging with TAE Technologies, a nuclear fusion company, in a deal valued at over $6 billion. If that closes, this is a completely different business.

• The company actually generated positive operating cash flow for four consecutive quarters. The underlying operations are not bleeding cash the way the headline number suggests.

• Bitcoin is recovering. Those crypto losses were unrealised, meaning they are paper losses that reverse if Bitcoin climbs back.

📉 The Bear Case:

• The core media business generated $810,000 in advertising and subscription revenue in a full quarter. For context, Reddit made $663 million in the same period. Truth Social is not a real media business.

• The stock is down over 90% from its peak and 32% this year alone. The trend is not friendly.

• A nuclear fusion merger is either visionary or a distraction. The market has chosen the latter, for now.

The Munch Take: This is one of the strangest publicly traded companies in existence. The core business makes almost no money. The balance sheet is loaded with volatile crypto. The CEO just quit. And the company is now pivoting into nuclear fusion. None of that is normal. The crypto losses will reverse if Bitcoin recovers. The fusion deal might actually be interesting. But right now you are buying a social media company that earns less per quarter than a decent restaurant. My wife earns more selling old furniture on Facebook Marketplace. Possibly not by much.

🍟 The Greatest Brand in Fast Food. The Stock Has Gone Nowhere.

The $1 coffee at McDonald's Canada is the best deal in fast food right now. I buy one every single morning. Clearly, that is not enough to keep this stock afloat.

$MCD is down nearly 17% from its February peak and is now trading at its lowest price since 2024. The stock has gone essentially nowhere in five years while the rest of the market is ripping. That is a painful combination of brand excellence and stock mediocrity.

Here is the thing. The business itself is not broken. Q1 earnings actually beat expectations. Revenue rose 9% to $6.52 billion and global same-store sales grew 3.8%. So why is the stock getting destroyed? The CEO said on the earnings call that the consumer environment is "not improving and may be getting a little worse." With gas at $4.54 a gallon, low-income customers are thinking twice about driving to McDonald's. That is a real problem when your entire value proposition is cheap and convenient.

📈 The Bull Case:

• McDonald's has raised its dividend for nearly 50 consecutive years. That’s incredible. You get paid to wait.

• Of 38 analysts covering the stock, the average price target is around $345. That is roughly 21% upside from where it sits today.

• The brand is genuinely world-class. 40,000 locations. Recognizable in every country on earth. That moat does not disappear because gas is expensive.

📉 The Bear Case:

• Low-income traffic is still declining and the CEO flagged Q2 will be weaker as it faces tough comparisons to last year's Minecraft movie promotion.

• Company-operated restaurant margins are, in the CEO's own words, "not acceptable." That is an unusual level of candour, and it is not bullish.

• Five years of going nowhere while the S&P doubled is not a short-term blip. It is a pattern.

The Munch Take: McDonald's is one of the greatest businesses ever built. The franchise model is a cash machine, the brand is bulletproof, and the dividend has been growing for half a century. But the stock has been a terrible investment for five years and the macro setup is not helping. Gas at $4.54 means the people who love McDonald's most are cutting back on the drive there. My $1 coffee habit is apparently not moving the needle. Maybe I need to go to three coffees a day to help.

Two things drove Friday specifically. The April jobs report came in at 115,000 new jobs, more than double the 55,000 Wall Street was expecting. Strong enough to prove the economy is not breaking. Soft enough to not completely kill Fed cut hopes. AKA, the Goldilocks number. Then $INTC ripped 15% (more on that below).

Here is what the market is locked in on this week:

• 🇨🇳 Trump heads to Beijing for a face-to-face summit with Xi Jinping. It is the most anticipated diplomatic meeting of the year. Trade frameworks, AI guardrails, and tariff reductions are all on the table. One good headline and this market keeps ripping.

• 📊 CPI drops on Wednesday and PPI lands on Thursday. Economists expect inflation to soften slightly. If it does, the Fed narrative gets friendlier fast.

• 🛢️ Iran peace talks are still the wildcard. Oil is sitting around $90 a barrel, down sharply from its highs. A signed deal sends it lower and everything else higher. A breakdown does the opposite.

The Munch Take: Six straight winning weeks. All-time highs. We’re not complaining. The rally is real, but the fundamentals supporting it? Not quite as solidified. This many catalysts in one week means many things that can go wrong. Stay buckled. My wife looked at our portfolio this weekend and asked why I ever seemed stressed about it. She clearly stopped reading these emails a long time ago.

🩺 Bitcoin Health Check: The Antidote to Money Printing Is Lagging Behind

Now that the market is back at all-time highs, let's do a health check on our friend Bitcoin. Spoiler: it’s fine, but it is not great.

$BTC is sitting around $81,000 today. Its all-time high was $126,000, hit back in October 2025. Meanwhile, stocks have fully recovered and are printing records almost daily. Bitcoin is still down roughly 36% from its peak. That is a strange divergence and it deserves an explanation.

Here is why Bitcoin has lagged:

1. The Iran war sent investors into genuine risk-off mode. When people get scared, they sell crypto first and ask questions later.

2. Oil above $100, geopolitical chaos, and a Fed that won't cut rates all created a terrible backdrop for a speculative asset.

3. Stocks recovered because earnings were strong and AI spending gave the market a fundamental reason to rally. Bitcoin does not have earnings. It recovers on vibes, and the vibes aren’t good enough right now.

We bought our position in 2025, and we are currently down roughly 15%. We are not selling.

📈 The Bull Case:

• Bitcoin is the antidote to money printing. Global debt keeps climbing, central banks keep expanding their balance sheets, and there will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin. That thesis has not changed.

• Stablecoin legislation is moving through Congress and a friendlier regulatory environment is bringing institutional money back into crypto. The infrastructure for a real rally is being built.

• Analysts at Grayscale believe the traditional four-year boom-bust cycle is broken and that institutional adoption has fundamentally changed how Bitcoin trades. If they are right, the next leg up could be different.

📉 The Bear Case:

• Fidelity's macro team thinks 2026 is a dormant year for Bitcoin with price support closer to the $65,000 to $75,000 range. The good news from Trump's election and the spot ETF launch has already been priced in.

• The Iran situation is not fully resolved. Risk appetite can reverse quickly and Bitcoin will keep feeling that.

• Stocks are at all-time highs and Bitcoin is still 36% off its peak. That is not a healthy divergence for the bulls.

The Munch Take: We are long Bitcoin and we are staying long. The money printer does not stop. Governments do not shrink their debt. The long-term case for a fixed-supply digital asset has never been stronger on paper. But Bitcoin needs to start acting like the hedge it is supposed to be. It sat out the stock recovery almost entirely. The antidote to money printing should not lag behind the thing it is supposed to protect you from. We are patient. But Bitcoin needs to get its act together.

🥩 $TXRH Texas Roadhouse jumped 12.33% after beating earnings estimates and posting 6.5% same-store sales growth. Americans are still going to Texas Roadhouse and they are still ordering the bread. I don’t blame them.

🥤 $MNST Monster Beverage climbed 13.61% after beating on both profit and revenue, driven by strong international sales. People worldwide are drinking Monster at an accelerating rate. The energy drink business clearly doesn’t care about geopolitics.

💼 $UPWK Upwork face-planted 16.87% after announcing it’s cutting 24% of its workforce as part of a restructuring. Upwork is a platform that connects businesses with freelancers. Cutting a quarter of your staff is not a great advertisement for job security in any form.

☁️ $NET Cloudflare cratered 23.62% after announcing plans to cut 20% of staff and issuing a cautious sales outlook. When you cut headcount and warn on revenue in the same breath, the stock pays double. It’s still up 170% in the last 5 years, though.

✈️ $EXPE Expedia tumbled 9.02% after weak guidance tied to geopolitical tensions and softening travel demand. People are nervous about where the world is headed and it is showing up in booking numbers. When people get scared, vacations get cancelled.

STOCK OF THE DAY

💻 The Government Just Made $47.6 Billion on a Chip Stock.

The Apple and Intel chip deal is now confirmed. The two companies have reached a preliminary agreement for Intel to manufacture chips that power Apple devices, after more than a year of intensive talks. $INTC ripped another 15% on the news.

Now for the number that is genuinely hard to process. The Trump administration bought a 10% stake in $INTC last August for $8.9 billion. That position is now worth $56.5 billion. A $47.6 billion gain in less than eight months. There is no real precedent for a government investment returning this kind of money this fast. Not even close.

Is there a conflict of interest angle here? Absolutely. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick spent the last year meeting repeatedly with Tim Cook, Jensen Huang, and Elon Musk, pushing for exactly this kind of domestic manufacturing deal. The government owned the stock and then helped engineer the catalyst. Make of that what you will.

📈 The Bull Case:

• Intel is the only company that can realistically scale up as a viable second source for Apple chips. TSMC is maxed out on capacity and Apple needs alternatives.

• Intel's Arizona fab is now in high-volume production on its most advanced chip process, which is designed to rival TSMC's best technology. The foundry business is no longer theoretical.

• Elon Musk's Terafab in Austin is also committed to Intel chips. The customer list is building fast.

📉 The Bear Case:

• This is still a preliminary deal. Preliminary means not final. Intel has a long history of promising timelines and missing them.

• The chips Intel would initially make for Apple are the lower-end M-series processors, not the flagship iPhone chips. The contract is real but not enormous (yet).

• The stock has gone from $20 to nearly $130 in eight months. A lot of good news is already in the price.

The Munch Take: I spent hours researching different stocks last year. Reading earnings reports. Checking analyst targets. Then I overcomplicated things and bought nothing. Meanwhile, the US government bought $8.9 billion worth of Intel and then went and personally negotiated the deal that sent it to the moon. The lesson here is simple. Next time the president tells you to go buy something, maybe just go buy it.

😟 Americans Are Miserable. Stocks Don't Care.

Here is the most confusing chart in finance right now. The stock market is at all-time highs. And Americans have never felt worse about the economy. Ever. Not in 2008. Not during COVID. Not during the 1980s recession. Never.

The University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index just hit 48.2 in May, the lowest reading in the survey's nearly 80-year history. That is 13% below the 2008 financial crisis low. Regular people are not feeling this rally.

Why? Two things:

1. Gas is now $4.54 a gallon nationally, up nearly 40 cents in a single month. One third of Americans surveyed mentioned gas prices as their biggest worry.

2. Another third mentioned tariffs. Year-ahead inflation expectations sit at 4.5%, more than double the Fed's 2% target. People do not believe prices are coming down anytime soon.

So what does this mean for stocks? Two things to understand:

1. First, the top 10% of households own roughly 87% of all individually held stocks. The S&P 500 hitting all-time highs is great news if you have a brokerage account. For everyone else, it is background noise behind a $4.54 gallon of gas.

2. Second, miserable consumers stop spending. And consumer spending is about 70% of the entire US economy. When people feel this bad for this long, it eventually shows up in corporate earnings. Retail, restaurants, travel, and discretionary spending all take a hit. The stock market can ignore bad sentiment for a while. It cannot ignore bad revenue forever.

The Munch Take: The market is celebrating at all-time highs while the average American is getting squeezed at the pump and the grocery store. Both things are true at the same time. This is not sustainable. Either oil comes down, the Iran deal gets signed, and sentiment recovers, or consumer spending rolls over and drags earnings with it. The market is betting on the first outcome. Let’s hope it’s right.

🩳 Michael Burry Is Betting $1 Billion That AI Stocks Will Crash

Michael Burry is the guy from The Big Short. He predicted the 2008 housing crash when nobody believed him, made a fortune, and got a Hollywood movie made about it. Now he is back with another giant bet against the market.

Here is what he is doing in plain English:

• Shorting a stock means you are betting it will go down. If it falls, you make money. If it rises, you lose money.

• Burry currently holds $912 million in bets against $PLTR and $187 million in bets against $NVDA. That is over $1 billion saying the two biggest AI darlings are going to crash.

His $PLTR bet is actually working. Palantir is down 35% from its November 2025 peak and Burry now thinks it falls another 40% to 60% from here. His $NVDA bet is underwater. Nvidia has recovered strongly in 2026 and that position is losing money.

Now here is the important part nobody mentions. Burry's track record since 2008 is not good. He has called multiple market crashes that never happened, missed major rallies, and spent years being wrong in expensive ways. He is not the Oracle of Doom. He is a smart guy who got one enormous call right and has been dining out on it ever since.

The Munch Take: Burry's AI bubble thesis is not crazy. Valuations on $PLTR are genuinely hard to justify and AI spending is running far ahead of proven returns. But betting against $NVDA while every data center on earth is ordering their chips is a bold choice. One right call in 2008 does not make every subsequent call correct. My wife has never seen The Big Short and has no opinion on Michael Burry whatsoever. Her portfolio has outperformed his since 2009. She does not even know that.

Enrique Lores, who only took over in March, is cutting roughly 20% of the workforce over the next two to three years as part of a plan to unlock at least $1.5 billion in savings. He is also spinning Venmo into a standalone unit and starting up a new AI division. Two months in and he is already swinging hard.

The honest context: Stripe and Block have been eating PayPal's lunch for years while the company drifted. The stock is roughly where it was in 2017. Nine years of sitting still while the entire payments industry moved around them.

📈 The Bull Case:

• Q1 earnings beat expectations with adjusted EPS of $1.34 against an estimate of $1.27 and revenue up 7% year over year. The underlying business still works.

• Venmo total payment volume grew 14% in Q1. There is a real consumer franchise buried inside this company that has never been fully unleashed.

• A new CEO with a clean mandate, $1.5 billion in savings coming, and AI replacing expensive headcount is exactly the setup turnaround investors dream about.

📉 The Bear Case:

• This stock has been a value trap for nearly a decade. Every few years someone announces a turnaround plan. The stock pops. Then goes nowhere.

• Net income actually fell year over year despite the revenue beat. The business is not getting more profitable yet, it is just getting leaner.

• Apple Pay, Google Pay, Stripe, and Block are all improving faster. PayPal is playing catch-up in a race where the competitors are not slowing down.

The Munch Take: PayPal is not a bad business. It is a good business that has been badly run for a long time. Lores looks serious. The cuts are real. The savings are real. But the market has heard this story before and it is not convinced yet. The stock needs results, not announcements. Until bookings growth accelerates and margins actually improve, this one stays in the "show me" pile.

🦉 Duolingo Is Down 78%. Ouch.

The green owl has been sending me notifications for months. I have been ignoring every single one. Apparently so has the rest of Wall Street.

$DUOL hit an all-time high above $544 in May 2025. It is now trading around $104. That is a 78% wipeout in twelve months on a company that is profitable, growing, and has over 56 million people using it every day. So what happened?

The CEO announced in early 2026 that the company would deliberately sacrifice near-term revenue to focus on growing its user base and improving the free experience. Investors heard "less money on purpose" and immediately left the room. The most recent earnings beat on revenue and EPS but Q2 bookings guidance came in at just 6% growth, well below recent trends. The stock dropped another 14% overnight. Good results. Bad outlook. Classic Duolingo.

📈 The Bull Case:

• Revenue has compounded at roughly 40% annually for three years. Operating margin hit 15% in Q1. The company carries over $1 billion in cash and has zero debt. The business itself is genuinely healthy.

• AI has increased Duolingo's content production by ten times over the past two years, publishing over 20,000 course units in Q1 alone. That is a real competitive moat that takes years to replicate.

• The stock has gone from expensive to actually reasonable. The valuation compression may already be done.

📉 The Bear Case:

• Management deliberately chose to slow monetization and investors do not know how long this investment cycle lasts before it pays off. Patient is fine. Indefinitely patient is not.

• Gross margins are expected to fall from 73% to around 69% by year-end as AI feature costs scale faster than savings. Margin compression plus slowing bookings is a tough combination.

• Short interest sits at 22% of the float. A lot of people are actively betting this gets worse before it gets better.

The Munch Take: Duolingo is a real business with real users and real profits getting punished for making a long-term decision in a short-term market. That is not unusual. The stock went from a $544 darling to a $104 problem child in twelve months because management said the quiet part out loud: we are going to make less money for a while. The market did not like that. My wife told me last week I should have kept up with my French lessons. She was right about that too. She usually is.

🍎 Apple Is Spending More on R&D Than Ever. So Where Are the New Products?

For the first time in 30 years, $AAPL is spending more than 10 cents of every dollar it earns on research and development. That came in at $11.42 billion in a single quarter. The headline sounds exciting. The honest question is: what are they actually building?

Bloomberg reports Apple is working on smart glasses, an AI pendant, and AirPods with cameras. Tim Cook refused to answer a single specific question about it on the earnings call. Classic Apple. The last genuinely world-changing product they shipped was the iPhone in 2007. Since then: slightly better iPhones, a watch, some earbuds, and a $3,500 headset that nobody bought.

📈 The Bull Case:

• The last time Apple spent this aggressively on R&D was before the iPod. That worked out fine.

• Services revenue just hit an all-time high and iPhone revenue set a March-quarter record. The existing business is a cash machine regardless of what comes next.

• Two billion people are locked into the Apple ecosystem. Whatever they build next already has a customer base bigger than most countries.

📉 The Bear Case:

• Siri is still embarrassingly behind Google and ChatGPT and it has become the most visible symbol of Apple's AI problem. Spending more money does not guarantee catching up.

• Apple has spent over $113 billion on R&D in the last five years and produced a cancelled car, routine iPhone upgrades, and a VR headset nobody wanted. History here is not encouraging

• The stock is expensive. You are paying a premium for innovation that has not arrived yet.

The Munch Take: We do not like this stock at current prices and we have not liked it for a while. It is a brilliant business with a decade-long innovation drought dressed up as a growth stock. Spending 10% of revenue on R&D sounds like a turning point until you remember they said the same thing about the Vision Pro. One commenter online put it best: they are going to spend $35 billion and release a new charger that does not work with old phones. They’re probably not far off.

💾 SanDisk Is Up 5,000% in 390 Days. Let That Sink In.

If you had put $25,000 into $SNDK 390 days ago, you would have $1.275 million today. If you did not, welcome to the club. It is a large club.

Here is what happened. AI data centers need massive amounts of memory to store and process information. There is not nearly enough memory to go around. SanDisk was spun off as its own company in 2025 and immediately became the best way to bet on that shortage. When something is in short supply and everyone needs it, the price goes up. The price of NAND flash memory, which is what SanDisk makes, rose 60% in just the first three months of 2026.

Here is why people are still buying it:

• 🤖 AI is not slowing down. Every data center being built right now needs more storage than the last one. SanDisk has already locked in $42 billion in long-term contracts with major customers. The revenue is not a guess. It is already booked.

• 📈 Last quarter SanDisk told investors to expect $8 billion in revenue. Wall Street was expecting $6.49 billion. That is not a small beat. That is a completely different ballpark.

• 🏦 The memory shortage is expected to last until 2028. Two more years of tight supply means two more years of high prices and fat profits.

Now the part nobody wants to hear. The memory business is famously up and down. The shortage of today can become a massive oversupply tomorrow the moment factories start making more chips. A stock up 5,000% does not need much bad news to come back down hard.

The Munch Take: The business is real. The contracts are real. The AI demand is real. But 5,000% in 390 days is not normal and it is never normal. Every time someone says a memory boom is permanent, a supply glut shows up and ruins the party. Maybe this time is different. But it’s usually not. My wife asked me why I didn’t buy the stock. I told her I was being disciplined. She did not find that as comforting as I intended it to be.

With earnings mostly in the rearview mirror, all focus is now on whether the Iran deal gets signed or not. Trump already threw cold water on it Wednesday afternoon, calling a deal a "big assumption." One Truth Social post in either direction and this market moves 2% instantly.

The Munch Take: Three months ago people were genuinely asking whether this was the start of a bear market. Today we are at all-time highs with $9.6 trillion recovered. The market is not rational and it is not sentimental. It just prices in the next thing. Right now the next thing is peace. If it gets it, this rally has more legs. My wife asked if we should sell everything and buy a rental property. I think that’s a pretty good sign that there’s a bubble.

🎮 Ryan Cohen Is Selling Stuff on eBay to Buy eBay. This Is Real Life.

The GameStop and eBay saga got stranger this week. After going on CNBC to make his case, Cohen posted on X: "I'm selling stuff on eBay to pay for eBay." He listed an autographed pizza slice from a GameStop store for $56 billion. The man is trolling at a corporate level while simultaneously filing SEC documents. Respect the range.

Here is where the stocks actually stand. $EBAY is trading around $109, well below the $125 offer price. That gap tells you everything. The market is not pricing in a deal closing. $GME dropped 10% on the news and has not recovered. Cohen's own shareholders are not convinced either.

Polymarket currently puts the odds of this deal actually closing at around 16%. That is not nothing, but it is close to nothing.

The core problem has not changed. eBay's board has not engaged in the conversation, especially after Cohen said half the payment would be in $GME stock. Cohen also sidestepped funding questions on CNBC and called out eBay insiders for selling over $120 million in stock over the last five years while buying zero shares in the open market. The man is a genius at stirring the pot but actually closing deals is to be seen.

🤖 $NVDA and $GLW ripped 5.68% and 12% after announcing a partnership to build three new US facilities focused on optical technology for AI infrastructure. Two companies, one very large bet on the future of data centers.

🏰 $DIS Disney climbed 7.54% after revenue topped expectations, driven by streaming and theme parks both pulling their weight. The mouse is having a good year.

💊 $CVS jumped 7.65% after beating on earnings and revenue and raising its full-year guidance. The stock is now up 2% over the last 5-years. So yeah, not great.

🚗 $UBER advanced 8.53% on stronger-than-expected bookings guidance. There was a slight revenue miss but the market looked past it. Forward bookings are what matter here and they were good.

🛢️ $XOM and $CVX dropped 4% and 3.88% respectively as oil cratered on Iran peace deal hopes. When oil falls 12% in a day, energy stocks go with it. That is just how it works.

🛒 $CART Instacart face-planted 8.08% despite solid earnings and 14% revenue growth. The market is not worried about what Instacart did last quarter. It is worried about what Amazon and Walmart do next quarter. Good results did not matter. The competitive threat did.

My eating habits are no longer a private matter between my wife and I. $DASH just reported earnings and I am fairly certain I personally contributed to their 33% revenue growth.

DoorDash posted $4 billion in revenue, up 33% year over year. Total orders jumped 27% to 933 million. Marketplace gross order value, which is the total dollar value of everything ordered through the platform, hit $31.6 billion. The stock ripped over 15% after hours. EPS came in at 42 cents against an expectation of 37 cents. Revenue missed slightly but nobody cared. The guidance was strong enough to bury the conversation.

📈 The Bull Case:

• Record membership signups and a new high for monthly active users in Q1. The platform is still growing its core.

• DoorDash is no longer just a food delivery app. Grocery, convenience, retail, and international expansion via the Deliveroo acquisition are all adding revenue streams.

• Q2 guidance for marketplace gross order value came in above analyst estimates. The growth story is intact

📉 The Bear Case:

• Revenue missed estimates by nearly $200 million. That is not a rounding error.

• DoorDash is spending over $50 million on a driver gas relief program in Q2 alone because oil prices are hammering its delivery workforce. That is a real cost with no clean end date.

• Uber Eats is not sitting still. The competition for delivery market share is expensive and nobody has won yet.

The Munch Take: DoorDash is building something genuinely big. It started as a burger delivery app and is quietly becoming the infrastructure layer for local commerce. The revenue miss stings but the order volume and guidance say the business is healthy. My wife asked why we spend so much on DoorDash every month. I told her I was doing research. She did not believe me. She was right not to. But at least the stock went up.

One day after Iran fired missiles at the UAE and oil spiked above $114, the market shrugged, put its hat back on, and ripped to new all-time highs. 🚀 Coinbase Just Cut 14% of Its Staff. We Like The Stock Even More.

$COIN CEO Brian Armstrong announced Tuesday that Coinbase is cutting roughly 14% of its workforce, citing crypto market volatility and AI rapidly changing how the company operates. The restructuring is expected to cost up to $60 million and will be completed by the end of Q2. Armstrong called it a pivot to an "AI-native" operating model with fewer management layers and smaller, leaner teams.

Shares fell about 2.5% on the news. We bought $COIN in April 2025 at around $160. It is sitting around $200 today. We are not panicking.

📈 The Bull Case:

• Leaner cost structure means better margins when crypto volumes recover. This is a business getting fit, not falling apart.

• Coinbase joined the S&P 500 in 2025 and completed its $2.9 billion acquisition of Deribit, the world's largest crypto options exchange. The foundation is stronger than it might look.

• Stablecoin legislation is moving through Congress. Regulatory clarity might become the single biggest unlock for this stock.

📉 The Bear Case:

• Armstrong himself admitted the business remains volatile quarter to quarter. Crypto volumes are down and layoffs won’t fix that.

• Earnings drop on Thursday. If the numbers disappoint, yesterday’s 2.5% dip will look like a slow warm-up.

• AI replacing headcount is a fine strategy until customers notice the service getting worse.

The Munch Take: Armstrong is doing what good CEOs do in a down market. He is cutting costs before he has to, not after. The 2.5% drop is the market being dramatic. We bought this stock at $160 because we believed in the long-term crypto thesis. Nothing about today changes that thesis. Thursday's earnings will matter a lot more than today's memo.

💊 $CYTK Cytokinetics surged 16.71% after posting positive Phase 3 trial results for a heart condition that currently has zero approved treatments on the market. That is not a niche opportunity. That is an open field.

💳 $PYPL PayPal fell 7.76% despite beating earnings. The guidance was soft and the market punished it immediately. Wall Street does not grade on a curve.

🤖 $PLTR Palantir slipped 6.93% after Jefferies flagged slowing growth in its US commercial segment. Strong earnings were not enough. When analysts still don’t even know what the company does, the stock pays the price.

🛒 $SHOP Shopify cratered 15.63% after earnings missed expectations. Revenue was solid. The bottom line was not. Shopify is a great product that promises to help its customers make money while they themselves are clearly struggling to do that. The irony is real.

🦜 $DUOL Duolingo fell 5.62% despite revenue growth, because user numbers came in light. In the app economy, users are the product. I guess they know I haven’t been practicing my German lately. Entschuldigung.

💻 Intel Is Up 400% and the US Government Is the Biggest Winner in the Room

Here is something you do not read every day. The United States government is sitting on one of the best stock trades in American history, and it happened mostly by accident.

Last August, the Trump administration converted $8.9 billion in CHIPS Act grants into a 9.9% equity stake in $INTC, buying 433 million shares at $20.47 each. The idea was fiscal discipline, not a stock pick. Nobody in Washington was thinking about returns.

Yesterday, $INTC ripped another 12%. Trump posted on Truth Social claiming the US has made $45 billion on the investment. The math is roughly right. The stock has gone from $20 to nearly $100 in eight months.

What drove yesterday’s move? A Bloomberg report suggests Intel is close to landing a major chip manufacturing deal with Apple. Neither company has confirmed it. This rally is built entirely on a rumour. A very believable rumour, but a rumour.

Intel's newest chip fabrication facility in Arizona began high-volume production earlier this year. Microsoft is already using Intel to build custom AI chips. Amazon has commissioned custom processors. So while the Apple deal isn’t yet confirmed, the business is booming regardless.

The Munch Take: The US government accidentally made $45 billion on a chip stock in eight months. New CEO, new chips, new customers, new deals. The Apple rumour is the spark, but the wood was already dry. My wife told me I should have bought when Trump did. I did not, but I’m starting to think she should be running the Commerce Department.

$AMZN did something quietly terrifying yesterday. It announced Amazon Supply Chain Services, which opens its entire logistics network — freight, distribution, fulfillment, and parcel delivery — to any business on the planet. Not just Amazon sellers. Any business. The network behind this includes more than 80,000 trailers, 24,000 intermodal containers, and more than 100 aircraft. Procter & Gamble, 3M, Lands' End, and American Eagle are already signed up.

Amazon's vice president described it as doing for supply chain what AWS did for cloud computing. That comparison should keep every $FDX and $UPS executive awake tonight (they both crashed on the news).

📈 The Bull Case for FedEx and UPS:

• Amazon is not cheap and not everywhere yet. Enterprise relationships, international reach, and regulated industries still favour the incumbents.

• Both companies have been cutting costs aggressively. Leaner operations mean they can compete on price harder than before.

• This could take years to actually bite. Markets may be overreacting today.

📉 The Bear Case for FedEx and UPS:

• Amazon already ranks as the largest logistics company in North America. It is not entering this market. It already owns it.

• Pricing pressure is coming, whether customers switch entirely or just use Amazon as leverage in contract negotiations.

• $FDX fell 9% and $UPS dropped 10% on the news. The market is not treating this as a minor competitive threat.

The Munch Take: Amazon has spent thirty years building the most efficient supply chain in history and now they’re letting anybody pay to use it. That is not a startup threat. That is a toll booth going up on a road FedEx and UPS thought they owned. The incumbents will survive. They just won't thrive the way they used to. There is a difference between a business and a great investment, and right now $FDX and $UPS are drifting toward the former.

💰 Buffett Is Sitting on $397 Billion and He Still Thinks It's Too Expensive to Buy

Warren Buffett spent sixty years buying great companies at good prices. Right now he is not buying anything.

$BRK.B ended Q1 2026 with a record $397 billion in cash and Treasury bills. The pile keeps growing because Berkshire keeps choosing not to spend it. During the quarter, Berkshire sold roughly $24 billion in equity securities and purchased only $16 billion. That is not a rounding error. That is a statement.

So why is he waiting? Buffett was direct about it at the annual meeting last weekend. "Three times since I've taken over Berkshire, it's gone down more than 50%," he said. "This is nothing." The 2026 volatility does not register on his scale. He is not looking for a dip. He is waiting for genuine panic. There is a difference.

The numbers back up his caution. Look at his favourite valuation tool. The Buffett Indicator, which compares total US stock market capitalization to GDP, currently sits at about 227%. Buffett once described a reading above 200% as "playing with fire." We are 27 points above that threshold right now. The S&P 500 forward price-to-earnings ratio sits at approximately 21 times, well above its long-run historical average of 16 times.

At the annual meeting, Buffett compared markets to a church with a casino attached. "The casino has gotten very attractive," he said.

The Munch Take: When the most patient investor alive is sitting on $397 billion and still will not pull the trigger, that is not a fun fact. That is a warning. The market is not cheap, but Buffett isn’t predicting a crash. He’s simply saying the price is still wrong. He has been right about this before. It just takes monk-like discipline to have his level of patience.

📉 The Market Just Got a Cold Bucket of Oil Thrown on It

Stocks spent Friday hitting all-time highs. Yesterday, Iran set a UAE oil port on fire.

Iran launched drones and missiles at the UAE, setting ablaze a major oil hub at Fujairah port. The US Navy sank Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump went on Fox News and told Iran it would be "blown off the face of the earth" if it keeps targeting ships. Normal Monday stuff.

The market did not take it well. Here is what moved:

• 🛢️ Brent crude ripped nearly 6% and settled above $114 a barrel. WTI surged above $106. This is the most serious escalation since the ceasefire was declared four weeks ago.

• 📉 Stocks sold off across the board. Energy was the only sector that closed green. Everything else, including Materials and Industrials, got hit hard.

• 🚢 Iran attacked multiple ships in the Gulf, including vessels from South Korea and the UAE. Global shipping just got a lot more expensive and a lot more dangerous overnight.

Right now, the market has one question and one question only. Does this ceasefire hold or does this become a full resumption of war? Everything else, earnings, the Fed, GameStop buying eBay, is noise until that gets answered.

The Munch Take: We’ve said it almost daily. The market has been pricing in perfection and yesterday was far from perfect. Oil at $114 is already crushing airlines, retailers, and anyone whose business model requires moving things. My wife asked if we should cancel our summer trip. I told her to wait and see. She started looking at train schedules. She may be right again.

🚢 Norwegian Cruise Just Threw Its Full-Year Guidance Overboard

Speaking of reconsidering summer travel, $NCLH dropped 8.56% yesterday after slashing its full-year guidance. The culprit is the same one destroying everything else right now. Oil.

Norwegian runs its ships on fuel. Lots of it. With Brent crude sitting above $114 a barrel and no clear end to the Iran conflict in sight, the math on running a cruise line stops working fast. Softer consumer demand is piling on top of that.

📈 The Bull Case:

• The Iran conflict won’t last forever and when it ends, oil will dop, and cruise demand might snap back hard. Pent-up travel demand is real.

• Norwegian has strong forward bookings and brand loyalty. A bad quarter is not a broken business.

🐔 $TSN Tyson Foods rose nearly 8% after posting better-than-expected quarterly results. Turns out people are still buying chicken no matter what is happening in the Strait of Hormuz.

💰 $BRK.B slipped after Berkshire disclosed a record $397 billion cash pile and confirmed zero plans to spend it. Buffett is sitting on a mountain of cash and doing absolutely nothing with it. He has done this before. The man thinks in centuries.

Ryan Cohen announced the most audacious takeover bid of 2026 on Sunday night. By yesterday afternoon, his own stock was down nearly 10%.

That is the market's version of a slow clap.

Here is where things stand. eBay confirmed it received the unsolicited proposal but made clear there had been zero prior discussions or outreach from GameStop before the offer landed. Cohen went on CNBC Monday morning and essentially confirmed that. "We are just starting," he said. eBay's board has not responded. $EBAY is trading around $109, well below the $125 offer price, which tells you exactly how seriously the market thinks this deal will close.

Then Michael Burry, the Big Short guy, sold every share of $GME he owned. Yesterday. The timing was not subtle.

The market is sending Cohen a clear message. Announcing a $56 billion deal for a company that is nearly five times your size, with no prior conversations, half the payment in your own meme stock, and zero board support is not a negotiation. It is a press release with ambition.

Cohen says he can slash $2 billion in annual costs and make eBay a legitimate competitor to Amazon. Maybe. But first he has to get someone at eBay to actually pick up the phone.

The Munch Take: Cohen turned a dying mall retailer into a $9 billion cash pile through sheer force of will. He has earned the right to swing big. But the market is not buying this one yet, literally or figuratively. My wife sold a lamp on eBay last year for $40 and said it was "not worth the hassle." She may have just predicted the outcome of this entire deal.

📉 The Market Just Got a Cold Bucket of Oil Thrown on It

Stocks spent Friday hitting all-time highs. Yesterday, Iran set a UAE oil port on fire.

Iran launched drones and missiles at the UAE, setting ablaze a major oil hub at Fujairah port. The US Navy sank Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump went on Fox News and told Iran it would be "blown off the face of the earth" if it keeps targeting ships. Normal Monday stuff.

The market did not take it well. Here is what moved:

• 🛢️ Brent crude ripped nearly 6% and settled above $114 a barrel. WTI surged above $106. This is the most serious escalation since the ceasefire was declared four weeks ago.

• 📉 Stocks sold off across the board. Energy was the only sector that closed green. Everything else, including Materials and Industrials, got hit hard.

• 🚢 Iran attacked multiple ships in the Gulf, including vessels from South Korea and the UAE. Global shipping just got a lot more expensive and a lot more dangerous overnight.

Right now, the market has one question and one question only. Does this ceasefire hold or does this become a full resumption of war? Everything else, earnings, the Fed, GameStop buying eBay, is noise until that gets answered.

The Munch Take: We’ve said it almost daily. The market has been pricing in perfection and yesterday was far from perfect. Oil at $114 is already crushing airlines, retailers, and anyone whose business model requires moving things. My wife asked if we should cancel our summer trip. I told her to wait and see. She started looking at train schedules. She may be right again.

🚢 Norwegian Cruise Just Threw Its Full-Year Guidance Overboard

Speaking of reconsidering summer travel, $NCLH dropped 8.56% yesterday after slashing its full-year guidance. The culprit is the same one destroying everything else right now. Oil.

Norwegian runs its ships on fuel. Lots of it. With Brent crude sitting above $114 a barrel and no clear end to the Iran conflict in sight, the math on running a cruise line stops working fast. Softer consumer demand is piling on top of that.

📈 The Bull Case:

• The Iran conflict won’t last forever and when it ends, oil will dop, and cruise demand might snap back hard. Pent-up travel demand is real.

• Norwegian has strong forward bookings and brand loyalty. A bad quarter is not a broken business.

• The stock is now meaningfully cheaper than it was last week.

The market finished April by acting like someone who just found a $20 bill in an old jacket. $AAPL delivered a clean earnings beat, services revenue held up, and the company announced a fresh buyback. That was enough to send tech ripping and carry the S&P and Nasdaq to fresh all-time highs. The Dow disagreed. Nobody asked the Dow.

Then the weekend happened.

Trump pulled his guys out of the peace talks, saying Iran's leadership can't even agree with itself right now. Iran's foreign minister showed up in Pakistan anyway and put a new offer on the table: open the Strait back up, worry about nukes later. Trump said no. The two sides still can't agree on Iran's missiles or how to actually verify that any deal gets honoured. Nobody is close to shaking hands.

Here is what the market is staring down this week:

• 🛢️ Iran headlines will move oil, and oil will move everything else. Brent is still sitting above $100 a barrel with no clean resolution in sight.

• 📊 A monster earnings week. 121 S&P 500 companies report, including $PLTR, $AMD, $DIS, and $ARM.

• 💼 April nonfarm payrolls drop Friday. With core PCE running hot, a strong number kills Fed cut chatter for the summer.

The Munch Take: The market spent last week pretending Iran was basically solved. It is not solved. We have a ceasefire nobody trusts, a Strait still choking global shipping, and oil refusing to cooperate. Earnings are real and mostly good. But one bad headline out of Islamabad and this rally gets a cold shower fast. My wife asked if we should book the summer vacation. I said wait and see how the week plays out. She booked it anyway. She's probably right.

✈️ Spirit Airlines Is Dead. The Yellow Jets Are Grounded. Forever.

After two bankruptcies and a failed government bailout, Spirit has ceased operations immediately. Thirty-three years of ultra-cheap flying. Gone overnight.

Here is what killed it:

• The Iran war sent jet fuel costs through the roof and Spirit could not absorb it.

• Bondholders rejected a $500 million Trump administration rescue package.

• The lights went off at 3 a.m. 17,000 workers are now out of a job.

What Happens to Shareholders: This is liquidation, not restructuring. Secured lenders get paid first, bondholders second, unsecured creditors third. Shareholders get essentially nothing. If you are holding $SAVE, you are holding a yellow receipt.

What Happens to Your Flights: Credit and debit card bookings get automatic refunds. Vouchers, credits, and Free Spirit points go through bankruptcy court. Do not hold your breath.

What Happens to Your Airfare: Without Spirit on those routes, the big carriers will raise fares. Enjoy your $400 Spirit-less flight to Orlando.

The Munch Take: Spirit was the airline equivalent of a gas station sushi roll. You knew what you were getting and it usually worked out fine. Now it’s gone and the legacy carriers are already licking their chops. My wife refused to fly Spirit on principle for five years. She is now looking extremely smart. She always is.

📱 $AAPL Apple rose 3.28% on the back of what the company called "extraordinary" iPhone 17 demand. Beat on revenue. Beat on earnings. Tim Cook is leaving on a high.

🤖 $TWLO Twilio surged 28.83% after strong results and raised guidance showed that demand for its AI voice tools is not slowing down. Nobody saw that one coming.

🧹 $CLX Clorox face-planted 9.67% after cutting its full-year earnings outlook, blaming acquisition costs and ongoing investments. Clorox is spending money it does not have to make money it cannot find yet. My wife just switched to generic cleaning spray. She’s responsible for this.

☁️ $TEAM Atlassian ripped 29.58% on an earnings beat driven by cloud and data center growth. Atlassian had been under pressure with the rest of the SaaS crowd. Consider this a reminder that the good ones come back.

🎮 GameStop Wants to Buy eBay. No, Really.

Ryan Cohen has lost his mind (again). But in the best possible way.

$GME made an unsolicited offer to acquire $EBAY for about $56 billion, at $125 a share in cash and stock. That is roughly a 20% premium to where eBay closed Friday. Cohen has already built a 5% stake in eBay and secured a commitment letter from TD Bank for about $20 billion in debt financing. He is also reportedly prepared for a proxy fight if eBay's board says no.

One small detail. This deal is nearly 5 times the market cap of GameStop itself.

📈 The Bull Case:

• GameStop is sitting on approximately $9.4 billion in cash. Cohen actually has the balance sheet to attempt this.

• The combined company projects $2 billion in annualized cost reductions within twelve months of closing.

• eBay is a real, profitable e-commerce business. Cohen built one before. He knows the space.

📉 The Bear Case:

• Half the offer is paid in $GME stock. eBay shareholders would have to voluntarily accept meme stock as currency.

• This is a non-binding, unsolicited proposal. eBay's board can and probably will tell him to kick rocks.

• Regulatory approval for a $56 billion deal involving one of the internet's oldest marketplaces will not be a quick process.

The Munch Take: This is either the most audacious corporate move of 2026 or the most expensive cry for attention in Wall Street history. Cohen turned a dying video game retailer into a cash pile, so the man has earned the right to be taken seriously. But asking eBay shareholders to take $GME stock as payment is like offering someone Applebee's gift cards to buy their house. Not technically impossible, but it’s a stretch.
