Product Updates 👾

V3.1 contracts now live for new projects created on juicebox.money

Juicebox V3.1 contracts have been deployed to mainnet which fix some edge-case scenarios that could cause unintended consequences, including the reserved token issuance bug that was found during the V2 to V3 token migration. V3.1 also adds capabilities for NFT tiers to carry royalties, be sorted into categories, and be deployed with up to 10x cheaper gas.

If you have a V3 project and you’d like to migrate to V3.1, stay tuned for a migration tutorial on JBDAO YouTube or swing by the Juicebox Discord for support.

Peri from PeelDAO has been hard at work implementing project tags to enhance discoverability on juicebox.money. With the ability to sort projects by categories like "art", "education", and "charity", you will be able to easily find Juicebox projects that align with your interests and values.

Onchain SVGs for Juicebox projects

Did you know that every Juicebox project is represented by an NFT? Juicebox project NFTs are stored in the JBProjects contract and up until now, have never had any metadata applied to them to make them more visually appealing or searchable on marketplaces like Opensea. Nicholas, with help from the JB contract crew, has deployed Juicebox Token Resolver which creates onchain SVG metadata for all V2/V3 Juicebox projects. You can see an example of the default resolver below which uses Peri’s Capsules typeface, and project creators will also be able to customize their project’s resolver if desired. Check out some of the NFTs now on Goerli.

Nicholas also wrote an 1155 contract so that anyone can collect their favourite project's onchain SVG in their wallet… stay tuned for more updates!

After a successful vote, Juicebox is funding the first Prop House round with 1 ETH for builders to be compensated transparently from a Juicebox project. Builders are encouraged to propose any idea that they believe will benefit the creator ecosystem using a Juicebox programmable treasury. Anyone with an ETH address is welcome to propose and $JBX holders will be able to vote on the three winners.

Juicebox operations unaffected by USDC depeg

This past weekend was a rollercoaster following the closure of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB). $3.3B⁠, approximately 8% of Circle’s USDC total reserves,⁠ were held at SVB and were made available to Circle after a weekend wave of panic caused the stablecoin to temporarily depeg as low as $0.80 on exchanges. JuiceboxDAO’s treasury and operations were unaffected since payouts are distributed in USD denominated ETH.

Tides are changing and Juicebox is one of many DeFi protocols on Ethereum striving to make treasury management more transparent and secure. Projects on Juicebox can be configured with easy, no-code rules and restrictions to help build trust with your community while maintaining 100% self-custody of treasury assets.

Banny Featured in Jonathan Mann’s Song a Day

Jonathan Mann runs Song a Day, an NFT project where he writes a song each day and auctions it off at songaday.world . He’s been writing songs every day for the last 14 years and holds the Guinness World Record for “Most Consecutive Days Writing a Song.” Last week he wrote a song for Juicebox called Banny the Banana Likes Juicebox. After it was revealed, there was a crowdfund on Juicebox to buy the NFT and transfer it to the JBDAO wallet.

The terminology used to describe the Juicebox protocol has been revised several times and as a result the docs, resources, and juicebox.money have grown inconsistent with one another. JuiceboxDAO contributor Filip, in collaboration with the frontend team at Peel and other JBDAO contributors, has started to update this terminology for better consistency and clarity. Although these changes are not yet final, you can check out a list of key terms that have been updated so far in the post linked below.

In this episode, Matthew and Brileigh host a round table discussion about the upcoming Ticket To Space documentary being launched via StudioDAO which tells the story of Yan Kejun, a MoonDAO member from Beijing, who will be sent to space on an upcoming Blue Origin flight. Guests include director Fernando Urdapilleta, producer Susie Conley, MoonDAO co-founder Pablo Moncada-Larrotiz, and StudioDAO co-founders Kenny Miller and Rachel Leventhal.

Krause House 50pt Game Charity Bounty

Kraus House is a DAO of basketball lovers pooling funds to purchase and operate an NBA team.

They are announcing a first-of-its-kind bounty fundraiser that offers fans the chance to participate and receive a commemorative NFT all while supporting a good cause. The rules are simple: if an NBA player completes a 50pt game, they can choose which charity will receive all of the bounty funds in the Juicebox project.

There are two requirements for a player to make a claim:

The player must submit an NFT commemorating their 50pt game to Krause House which will represent their claim of the funds. Krause House will then randomly draw a winner for this NFT to a single lucky Juicebox contributor with odds weighted based on contribution. NBA player submissions can be emailed to bounty@krausehouse.club
The player must make a post from an official social media account tagging Krause House and the charity that will receive the bounty funds.

Protocol updates 👾

V3 versioning

New JBController3.1, JBPayoutRedemptionPaymentTerminal3.1, and JBTiered721Delegate3.1 contracts will be live on mainnet soon. The V3.1 contracts will complete the V3 migration and address all known risks and inefficiencies. These contracts will be made available for new projects soon along with a migration path for existing projects. Stay tuned for further updates as well as the launch of the V3 $JBX token.

Caller and token beneficiary now visible in activity feed

You can now see both caller (who paid the project) and token beneficiary (who will receive the tokens) for payments made to any Juicebox project. In the example below from the Banny Valentines project, we can see mieos.eth paying 0.01 ETH to the project with zom-bae.eth as the token beneficiary for the NFT.

Defifa wraps up Banny Bowl 🏈

After the final game for American Football, Defifa is now in Phase 4: The Final Whistle. A scorecard has been submitted by the Defifa Ballkids and at least 50% of NFT holders from all teams must attest to the scorecard on defifa.net in order to ratify it. Once ratified, holders can burn their team's NFT to reclaim ETH from the treasury at any time. Holders have the option to keep their NFTs and freely trade them: their value will remain backed by the treasury (4.20 ETH).

Nance is a governance automation tool currently being developed to help create a seamless governance experience for DAOs and digital communities. It can integrate with many of the tools that you already use like Notion, Discord, Snapshot, and Juicebox.

With new proposals coming in every two weeks, JuiceboxDAO is one of the most active DAOs according to Messari. This new hub (jbdao.org) will help community members keep up with JBDAO governance and learn how to become involved.

Juicebox and Peel contributors are doubling down this new year to make projects on Juicebox easier to search and discover. One of the first features to drop is a new and improved search using Sepana. The feature is currently flagged but can be enabled with jb.enableFeatureFlag("sepanaSearch") in browser console. You can see an example below with the search query “education” and how relevant projects are displayed.

Running a marathon in the Metaverse

Robin, also known as SuperMassive was the first person to run a marathon in the metaverse on Saturday, January 21st 2023. To kick off the beginning of his new project BasedAF, Robin raised over 30 ETH on Juicebox while running with a VR headset for ~9 hours with all proceeds going towards dialysis machines for a children's hospital in London. EmpireDAO 2023 Membership Drive

EmpireDAO, currently located at 190 Bowery in New York City, is home to 1500+ builders, dozens of artists, and hundreds of community events. Due to the ripple effects of FTX, EmpireDAO is at risk of losing their lease which would lead to thousands of community members across NYC losing access to a physical space dedicated to building and collaboration. Their goal is to raise 205 ETH by December 31st, 2022 and if this target is not reached, all contributions will be refunded. Contributors can donate publicly via Juicebox or privately via Nucleo. There are 13 NFT tiers available with perks like a 5-day desk pass (0.2 ETH), 25-day desk pass (1.25 ETH), and sponsorship packages (8.25 - 100 ETH).

UnumDAO (ConstitutionDAO2) is fundraising for the auction both in public using Juicebox and privately through a ZK tech stack that utilizes Aztec Network, Nucleo and Sismo. The core team tells us why they're launching another campaign and what it means in the middle of the bear market.

A fundraiser started by @CupOJoseph successfully raised $10k USD in ETH to send Gabriel Haines to the Bahamas to investigate the ongoing SBF situation in the wake of FTX's collapse. You might know Gabriel for his yelling videos where he often appears shirtless and wielding a machete. Contributors to the project can receive a Detective Gabe NFT (edition of 100) for 0.1 ETH.

Campfire, the music creators' guild and community for creatives, has so far raised over $4k USD in ETH for an IRL event at Miami Art Basel. This will take the form of a creative space for artists to come together and collaborate in a studio setting, with all music created being minted to the blockchain. Sessions will also be live streamed and token gated.
