Davz - New Ecosystem

Synthwave is a genre we don’t send much of.

Mostly because after a while every song sounds the same.

This song by Abnormal Australian Davz is quite different.

There’s more energy and detail on the overall song.

And the melody? The reason why I’m sending this song in the first place.

Overall it’s a nice experience. Highly recommended on a car stereo or a good set of headphones.

💭 Quick Drivel

For a change, the day started at 9 am.

Part exhaustion, part everything opens at 10 am.

The biggest change was the amount of buses and their long schedules. Miss one and you’ll have to wait 30 minutes for the next.

There was also a new challenge:

Waiting at the RIGHT bus station.

Which could mean waiting between 2-4 different spots.

I was extra careful on this one as getting on a wrong bus meant the plans for the day getting wrecked.

Which was pretty packed with:

1. Golden Pavilion

One of the must-sees you see on YouTube.

The pavilion itself was cool, but I liked the gardens behind it much more.

There was this thing where you tried trick shotting a coin into the center of this… micro statue thing.

if you look closely, you can see the coin. It missed.

I made on my tenth first try as expected.

Overall it was a cool experience. This is where my bookmark collection started (it was the only thing that fit in my bag).

From there it was time to get on to another popular temple.

2. Ryoan-Ji

This is the temple with the sand field.

Apparently its supposed to be represent tigers by the river?

Its one of those “ah, alright, gotcha… I mean… It’s kinda cool ig?” moments.

The magic came from was peaceful and cozy it is to sit there and hear the sounds.

Also the whole structure is really cool. Seeing those “frozen in time” places brings a lot of peace for some reason.

3. Ninna-Ji

This was walking distance from the previous temple, so I waddled over just to check.

And WOW. This was beautiful.

Likely one of the biggest temples I had been to up to that point. It had a bunch of buildings. No clue what any of them did or signified.

One of them was a residence-type thing that you could explore. It had this insane view.

It also had this spot that encourgaed you sit down, put on some Japanese ambient music, and do some presence meditation.

I scoffed at the idea and then stayed 10 minutes sitting there after “trying it to see where it goes”

Definitely worth the wait. It was a rare moment where I wasn’t running somewhere.

Of course, once the moment was over it was time to get back to the races.

I wasn’t missing this next part for ANYTHING.

4. Arashiyama Monkey Park

Yup. It was time to return to the source.

It was a bit of a hike which triggered PTSD from previous days adventures.

On the peak however…

I mean what else is there to say?

Got to see:

1. Monke (who you can’t make eye contact with otherwise they WILL get aggressive)

2. Monke eating peanut

3. Cool view

What more do you need?

5. Arashiyama "Bamboo Park" and finding crack

I followed the Google craps Maps pin to what looked like the popular bamboo forest.

Except it was extremely short and it looked nothing like the pictures.

So I assumed it was an over-hyped place and started looking for a place to eat.

While looking, some people asked to take pictures of them (which adds to the people counter) which was pretty cool.

Then I found this mystical thing called

Yuba Cheese.

It was love at first bite.

It’s milky, smooth, and tastes like glory. It’s also not heavy at all.

The best thing I can compare it to is literal heroin.

I weep at the inability to eat it anywhere outside of Kyoto. It’s one of those delicacies you CAN’T miss out on.

6. Pilgrimage home

Yeah so, if getting there took an hour by bus, the return took an hour in train and 30 minutes by bus.

As beautiful as Kyoto is…

GETTING AROUND IS A NIGHTMARE.

I’ve been keeping the details brief for email length sake, but WOW are commute times long.

Even worse, if you’re going to tourist destination places (like I was) the buses are packed like sardines.

So while the system is AMAZING and efficient…

It’s SO GOOD that people actually use it which makes it a full experience.

Regardless, after missing a bus home (and having to wait 30 minutes for the next one) I made it back home.

7. Hole In The Wall restaurant

After a long day of running around I was exhausted and starving.

As good as the Yuba cheese is, it's light and not too filling.

That and 2 hours on a route home opened the appetite.

So I looked for restaurants near the Airbnb to find

NOTHING.

Except this one spot that looked open.

Top 5 restaurants in Japan.

This was the most friendly place in all of Kyoto.

The owner and chefs spoke fluent English, which resulted in an amazing conversation about culture differences.

They also had me try random dishes that were local to Kyoto.

Everything was delicious.

Gotta say. Experiences like these make travel worth it.

They let me bum out until it was time to close.

After that I got home and passed the hell out.

First impessions on Kyoto?

Transportation aside, this place is FANTASTIC.

But I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow.

Kinoteki, Kelbin - Displacement

Coming in hot today we got American’t Kinoteki and Irritable Italian Kelbin.

This is one of those that thrives off the melody.

And even though it has an odd midsection, the intro and ending make up for it.

This track is on a more “experimental”. It’ll blend in the background while you’re doing something to bring you back to the melody where you go “wait, it’s the same song???”

Another point it has in its favor is the simplicity of it. I don’t think it goes above 5 sounds in the whole song.

Quite impressive what they were able to do with such a long song.

Highly recommended just for the experience.

💭 Quick Drivel

This was the last day in Tokyo.

And yet it was business as usual.

If this was any other country I’d likely also complain about the luggage problem…

Except Japan has enough lockers everywhere to safely leave your stuff.

The first challenge was to leave bags in a random locker at Tokyo Station, snap a photo with a phone prone to dying, and then race to the next spot.

While forgetting the GoPro in the luggage…

Which was a damn shame since today’s itinerary was:

1. Teamlabs Borderless

If TeamLabs Planets was a 10/10, this is a 1000/10.

Probably in my top 10 stops for this trip. Everything about it was breathtaking.

My favorite part was the phone nuke.

It’s this app you download to run one of their interactive rooms where you capture animals.

…Except I paid my dues as an Android user.

The app was overheating and borderline breaking my phone after using it for more than 30 seconds.

At least I captured this cool ass Megatherium!

Yeah I don’t know what this is either.

This is a MUST GO. Even if it costs staying an extra day. You won’t regret it.

Hell, you might as well buy a one-way ticket. That place is an insane maze that you can get lost forever in!.

2. Zojo-Ji

This is something that came up after leaving Teamlabs.

It said to be the resting place of the Tokugawa Clan.

…Which I HAD to go see.

The whole inside of the temple had a strict no-picture policy (as did all of them), so I can only show you the outside.

Holy angle (I was late to a final lunch with friends)

It has an underground part with a bunch of relics. Very interesting if you are into history.

3. Rush back to Tokyo Station

The train left in 3 hours and I had agreed to take some lunch with the friends from day 2 (who were having their last day in Japan)

However, I got there at peak lunch hour, which meant finding no suitable restaurant to eat.

And after searching for 30 minutes and halfway through a 20 minute line…

I looked to the right and saw a McDonalds sign.

…and recommended eating there.

Which they were iffy on but ended up accepting as it was this or waiting another 20 minutes.

Conversion successful.

It’s still amusing how much better Japan Mcdonald’s is.

Then we wandered around the station for a good 30 minutes looking for a store that we passed 5 times.

Yeah… Maybe having me as a guide was not the best decision.

Then it got time to leave, so we had our goodbyes and went our separate ways.

4. Take the Shinkansen to Kyoto

Man, I can’t wait to have the most productive train ride ever!

I’m going to write so much and catch up on my jour-

Ding dong Next station is Kyoto. Please gather your belongings and stay away from the doors.

Yeah so…

The exhaustion caught up.

I knocked out the SECOND I sat down.

At least the person next to me did the same so I wasn’t alone.

Regardless, it was time to find my way to the Airbnb.

5. Arrive at the Airbnb

On the way there I noticed 2 things

1. There are not that many train lines gulp

2. It is PACKED with tourists.

On the way there, I saw a bunch of random British Creatures dressed as various Mario characters.

Which wasn’t a problem until 5 seconds later when they started screaming. (They were drunk)

And so, after doing that whole “getting lost” shtick I made it to the right station.

At which point the HOST of the Airbnb came by to do a complimentary pickup.

On the way there, he had Afrojack and Martin Garrix - Animals on the radio, lmao.

Tried making some conversation about the music, but he either wasn’t interested or didn’t understand a single word I was saying.

Regardless, huge ups to the host for doing this tbh. Probably the first and only time this is going to happen.

Now the only problem was….

THIS AIRBNB IS ALL THE WAY IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.

But that was a problem for tomorrow.

6. Go to the supermarket and call it a night.

It was 5 minutes away, and I had to investigate.

Got some random stuff that looked good for breakfast. Then waddled over to a sushi restaurant near the Airbnb.

Definitely worth the experience.

Walking at night was very peaceful and quiet. It didn’t feel like a city at all.

Overall I was home and ready for sleep at a normal 12am (instead of 1am)

But the rest wasn’t for long; if Tokyo was busy, Kyoto was about to be over time.

RunThis & Electric Dad - confuse urself

This is from British Creature RunThis. There’s no other way to explain it then the brit version of Knock2.

I don’t think the genre has an official name so lets stick with that ey?

Regardless, this is not to say it’s a clone. There’s all of the fun and energy you can expect from a track like this.

It’s also one of those perfect summer tracks that’s good to play while the days are long and the heat is killer.

Highly recommended for bass house enjoyers. If you’ve struggled finding some knock2 adjecent tracks this will make you feel right at home.

After a crazy flurry of non-stop days it was time to finally rest and take it easy.

…Is what I would say if I was sensible and cared for my health.

Which is not true because in a lengendary brainwave I thought.

“Just how FAR can I push this trip?”

Unfortunately, a nerf Tokyo has is that it’s

TOO DAMN BIG.

Which meant spending half the day running around chasing buses, trains, and as usual, getting lost because…

Regardless, was still able to squeeze a bunch out of the day. Despite the ATROCIOUS weather I had been warned about.

In today’s itinerary:

1. Senso-Ji

This place is HUGE. The main temple is stunning. The amonut of details and craftsmanship that went into it is impressive.

Especially since it’s been rebuilt a cool

20 TIMES.

Which is something you’ll hear more of when we get to the next city destination.

Regardless, writing this makes me realize I didn’t take a SINGLE good picture of the place.

Took a lot of videos exploring the whole thing but no actual still pictures.

So uh… here’s something from a video?

Someone take away my camera rights what in the hell is this LMAO.

2. Teamlabs Planets

This is one of those that everyone recommends.

And for good reason. These are INCREDIBLE.

The only thing I’ll say is that they need better music in a lot of the exhibitions.

I don’t want to spoil the whole place (in case you end up going, which highly recommend going)

They also make you take your dogs out and walk barefoot for a good amount of time.

Which sounds fun…

Until all the blisters come to life.

They also have this lake place with a bunch of light fish swimming around.

Wanted to try the forbidden waters but then I realized that it would force me to stop and rest at a hospital so I decided against it.

Overall a 10/10 experience. The hype is real for this one.

3. McDonalds.

So here’s another quirk about this trip that I may have forgotten to mention.

I have to review the McDonalds for EVERY country I visit.

Call it the McPilgrimage to keep my American citizenship alive.

And well…

How’s this for the first and only meal of the day!

May have a problem. But it was $40 for all of this lmao

Not gonna bore you with the full detailed scoring of all these, but the overall meal was an 8/10.

Which is miles better than the current 6/10 America has.

4. Small Worlds

Alright, this one is a lot more niche.

It’s one of these miniature museums that are a bunch of massive displays with all sorts of themes.

Of course, nothing in Japan is short of spectacular.

All I can say is that repliating an entire AIRPORT with moving planes and everything is a feat you can only see here.

Or maybe I just haven’t been to enough minature museums…

Regardless, it’s worth the visit.

5. Shibuya Sky

Almost died on the way getting there by slipping to death on the rain.

As per usual, the goal was to see the sunset…

And becasue I couldn’t find my ticket for 10 minutes I missed it.

Which wouldn’t have mattered as it was STORMING.

Got these cool pictures though.

So not too too bad.

Overall Shibuya Sky gets an 8/10 in the tower score.

6. Route Home

Google craps Maps is public enemy #1.

The way it can confiently guide you wrong for a good 10 minutes is impressive.

In any case, just like every other day before it, I ended up getting back at like 1am.

So you know, time to continue the cycle and all.

Honestly, it’s been very complicated to find a consistent stream of these.

It’s almost been a month since we started this one and its added a complexity that results in lower quality.

Rinzen - Life as it is.

American’t Rinzen has been on my radar for a while now.

He specializes in house tracks that are minimalistic but get stuck in your head.

This one has a fun melody that the whole song builds around.

It’s also impressive how fast the song blows through. Even though it’s 5 minutes long, you don’t feel them.

It’s a nice little song that lives up to its title.

Today is a ligher one, gonna try out doing a list with a brief description.

Day 6 plan was simple:

1. Go to the Cup Noodle Museum in Yokohama.

One of the best museums I’ve been to. Even though it’s such a simple concept, the way they spun it into a museum on finding solutions is something that stuck with me.

They also have this INSANE restaurant that serves different type of “ramen” from other countries. A very interesting “live exhibit” mixed with a cultural museum.

Highly recommended. You get to make your own cup noodle.

2. Run it down to Kamakura to do as many temples as possible.

The beautiful thing about the train system is how well it works.

…And how unable to use it I am.

I got on the wrong train at least once which extended the commute by a good 30 minutes.

3. Visit Kotoku-in

Yeah so, getting here was an experience.

The train that led directly to it runs every 30 minutes and gets sardine-packed.

So instead I took the bus!

Which was also sardine-packed.

I fully understand why though.

Tourists aside, the place is incredibly peaceful.

You can also go inside the statue, which was a cool experience. It’s impressive to see things that are built hundreds of years ago stand strong.

4. Visit Hasedra Temple

This is one of the biggest and most impressive temples I have visited.

It’s this multi-story temple with a cave, hundreds of stone mini Buddhas, and an amazing beach view

If Kamakura has something, it’s natural beauty.

…And a lot of “no poppers or drugs” ads in the buses and trains.

Admittedly, this is a place where I saw A LOT of dudebro foreigners.

Maybe the beach is like a beacon that attracts the worst kind of tourists.

5. Get lost and find a random shrine

This one was pretty cool, as Google craps Maps can’t guide even if it's entire purpose was to do that.

But I found this beautiful shrine hidden in between some buildings.

It was definitely not meant for foreigners, as all the people there seemed confused as how I got there.

Then music started playing, and I saw a bit of an acted show. I have no clue what it was about, something about samurai.

It was a very cool experience; I didn’t get to see all of it as I was running out of time for the last stop in Kamakura.

6. Visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

This was hailed as one of Kamakuras most important shrines and WOW.

Everything about it was overpowering, not to mention huge.

One of the most amazing things about Japan is how it combines the old with the new.

Maybe it's because I’m used to the American Style™️of things not really being that old, but seeing these ancient structures built out of religious duty is something awe-inspiring.

For all the bad rep religion gets, it sure makes people do gorgeous things.

7. RUN BACK TO YOKOHAMA TOWER FOR THE SUNSET

Another day, another tower.

As usual, I couldn’t make it on time for the sunset.

This one was really cool. Even though it only let you see Yokohama its insane how that “little” city has so much to see.

I also almost forgot my phone here, lol.

Overall this is a 9/10 tower. Taking pictures and recording sucks.

8. Get back home at 1am.

Yeah so, being on trains all day is cool and all.

Something that didn’t hit until this moment is how much time we spend getting places.

If there’s one good thing cars have over public transportation, its speed of arrival.

Granted, having a car in Japan sounds like hell, but that’s a topic for a different day.

For now, it was time to repeat the cycle.

Rootkit - Summit

When it comes to sound design, few can do it like Nosy Norwegian Rootkit.

He’s one of the few early Monstercat artists that’s still going strong.

It’s one of those artists that release one in a blue moon and come out with unique soundscapes that blow everything else out of the water.

This song is no exception.

In fact, it was one of those that reinforced the silly idea to go hike a mountain.

Would even say that without this song as inspiration, I would not have reached the summit of Fuji.

The melody is fantastic, the composition is clean, and to sound like a broken record…

The sound design is out of this world.

And honestly, this whole track sounds like an adventure.

💭 Quick Drivel

It’s 4am.

This is the best I’ve slept in weeks.

The sunrise starts in 10 minutes so there’s no time to waste.

I take a step outside…

And immeditely start freezing.

Now tell me… would you freeze for this view?

Totally worth the frostbite.

Which by the way, the sunrise finished at like 4:40am.

Do Japanese people get to sleep? That’s an insanely early time for the sun to be up LMAO.

In any case, we had to start getting ready to hike for the summit.

Everyone got some more of that free rice and curry for breakfast.

The American’t mind couldn’t comprehend that.

And shortly after, it was time to hike again.

Now despite how well I slept…

My whole body feels like hell.

So instead of carrying that heavy ass backpack…

I stuff a liter wattle bottle on an arm sleeve

A small oxygen can in the other

Snacks on the pockets

And look like michelin man.

The hike itself was still demanding but FAR easier than when carrying 10 million things.

3 hours later and we’re at the summit.

Blasting today’s song to this view made it ALL worth it.

I get a stamp for my book, a charm and send a postcard home through their fully functional POST SERVICE SYSTEM?

Yeah so…

They have a whole ass convenience store, a FUNCTIONAL VENDING MACHINE, and wifi.

So you know… not much of a “place to disconnect”

I also ran out of money in the process…

So all is going well!

But we ain’t done yet…

Because it’s time to climb to the very peak.

Which is a near 90 degree angle hike with slippery terrain…

30 minutes later and we make it all the way to the summit.

It feels unreal to be saying that even a year later.

And that’s it!

Wait… what do you mean we have to “climb down”?

Yup!

Everything that goes up must come down.

The guide said jumping off the edge and rolling all the way down was out of the question.

So after re-acquiring the gear from the hut, it was time for the descent

Which looked something like THIS:

Lack of visibility aide, the descent is miles harder than the ascent.

But that could be the fact that I haven’t stopped moving since I landed 3 days ago.

4 hours later we were back at the van.

After a ride to Kawaguchiko Station (didn’t get lost this time!) it was time to say goodbye to everyone.

But the day wasn’t over yet…

No sir.

I saw this temple on google maps and HAD to go check it out.

But when I got there all I saw were.

MORE STAIRS.

And even though my legs are BEGGING for a medival age treatement of getting chopped off…

I “hike” my way to the top of this “mountain”

Fuji was blocked by clouds again. But at this point it is undeniable I was at the peak just 5 hours ago!

From there it was time to get back to Tokyo.

I was planning on enjoying the sights on my way back…

Except exhaustion caught up to me and I passed out on the bus, lol.

But when I woke up, I saw we were very much STUCK in traffic.

And as usual, both my phones were dying and the battery was almost out of juice.

(Mt Fuji has wifi but no outlets, you figure that one out)

Regardless, we make it back to tokyo at 7pm and it was OFF TO THE RACES AGAIN!

There’s a place I saw G Jones talk about that I had to check out.

It’s called Meikyoku Kissa Lion.

It closes at 8pm.

So I drop all my crap in a locker and run from the station to the coffee shop, getting there at 7:30.

Must go if you’re a music fan and visit Tokyo. This year is their 100-year anniversary, lmao.

And fo the next 30 minutes I get the most beatufiul and serene experience that matched the sights from the summit of Fuji.

I’ll let you read more about that here.

Then we all get kicked out as the shop is closing.

Surely that’s it?

NOPE. I had made plans with the friends from day 2.

And what better way to celebrate than with an all-you-can-eat BBQ!

We then visit the holy land of Don Qujiote…

And head back to the Airbnb before all the trains stop.

The time I got back?

We’ll talk about that at another time…

Because tomorrow is another early wakeup.

Rest? Until the wheels come off.

Generational Cover

This album came out the same day I was climbing down Mt. Fuji.

It blew my mind on the bus ride back to Tokyo. It had been years since I had heard an electro house album.

It’s been a year since that moment. I’ve been wanting to write this piece ever since.

And on its release anniversary, this album remains one of the top 10 albums of all time.

There’s genuine passion put into it. Something that gets rarer by the day.

This album is a love letter from Ninajirachi to music, computers, and the internet.

The three things that have helped her outstanding career happen.

Before the Internet, it was nigh impossible to reach fame as an artist.

There was such a monopoly over it that unless you found your way into a record agency you were forced into obscurity.

But Music wasn’t the only thing that changed after the internet became easily accessible…

This article has 2 missions:

1. Talk about what makes this album the best Album of 2025 (and still holding up well in 2026).

2. Build on the themed foundation Ninajirachi built and talk about some things the Internet changed for better or worse.

Lets begin:

London Song

This song prepares you for the rest of the album perfectly.

The start is like one of those rollercoasters that have you sitting there for 30 seconds before launching you into a 60mph loop.

It’s gritty, energetic, and introduces the important concepts she's visiting in this album:

1. A love letter to computers

2. There's going to be a lot of electro house.

I love how it cuts back and forth between energies. It glitches for a bit before hitting you with a wave of bassy sounds.

Another thing you’ll be hearing a lot is praise for the composition of these songs.

It’s a masterwork of sound design, energy control, and overall rhythm.

And it’s thanks to the internet that we can listen to this song.

Not only that, but the internet also provided practically unlimited information, connections, and opportunities.

It’s no secret that the desire to increase leverage (like working from anywhere) is a dream for many.

And the realization of this dream started way before the internet made this possible.

The core idea that started this whole thing is the optimization of labor and output.

And who else could make it other than the BRITISH creatures?

After the first fire engine got patented in London, everything started going bananas.

The ability for a human to “control” (and lose their limbs to) a machine that could multiply human output by 10x became a reality.

Fast forward a couple of years and the US Military wanted to connect a bunch of research computers using phone lines. The project was called ARPANET.

Then a LONDON university became the first international connection on ARPANET.

And in that same city, Tim Berners-Lee was born. He would go on and create the hellscape that is known as the WWW (WorldWide Web).

From there, that dream of unlimited leverage started becoming real.

It’s honestly pretty insane to think how much technology evolved in the last 30 years.

Despite all the negative things going on all around, it's (objectively) been the best time in humanity to be alive.

As Nina says: “Anythin' is possible with fingers, eyes, a mouse and a screen”

iPod Touch

January 9, 2007: Steve Jobs announced the iPhone. The iPod touch followed later that year.

Something made out of love (much like music) changed the world as we knew it.

Before this device, the Internet was still this cryptic place that was hard to access.

The iPhone changed everything by giving hundreds of millions easy access to the greatest invention of its time.

This device was the catalyst for creating the crowded internet we know and love/hate today because so many people started using it.

18 years later, and it is now possible to do whatever you want thanks to it.

And for better or worse, the world has never seen such rapid societal changes since the Internet.

The iPod itself changed the music industry.

It marked the standardization of digital files. Instead of having to buy a 10-track disk and carry a huge ass disk reader, you could now listen to thousands of songs on a device smaller than your hand.

This broke the monopoly of the music industry.

For artists: anyone could listen to your song without needing to be popular. The distribution and discovery widened to something never seen before.

And for listeners: You can choose whatever song you want, whenever you want it.

In many ways, both the iPod and iPhone changed how we listen to music and the realm of possibilities.

This song gives you an unexplainable feeling. It has that raw and bassy sound from London Song with more playful and poppy sounds.

Another piece of praise this song deserves is how well it uses flow and space.

It fills you with pianos and easygoing sounds before sending you to a euphoric trance with the classic bass-heavy synths.

The way the sounds fade in and out is probably the most addictive part of the song.

And man, this sounds like NOSTALGIA.

The way Nina describes what music does is spot on.

The powerful emotional connection music has to events can create long-lasting memories that last the tides of time.

I also owned an iPod touch; through necromancy (charging it), I managed to see what I was into back then, and WOW.

It sounds like simpler times, a lot of Monstercat, and trips I forgot about.

And as silly as it sounds, these personal devices provided something Spotify could never.

An archive that freezes in time (due to how tedious it was to transfer tracks to it) and gives you a glimpse of what was going on then.

I highly recommend you start breaking free from the streaming memory hole prison and start buying and collecting music that really matters to you.

5-10-20 years down the line you’ll look back and go:

Man, this sounds like -

Fuck My Computer

The bridge between iPod Touch and this song is INSANE.

It grabs you from the first second and doesn’t let go.

Sure, the lyrics can be a little crude, but it's a very real feeling.

This sounds like the euphoria you get from using a computer. Hell, the whole track SOUNDS like the inside of a living computer.

But the biggest strength is the immaculate buildups that you can’t really hear unless you pay close attention to what's going on in the background.

Some notable ones:

• The slow ticking at the start before the first drop…

• The quiet introduction of the lead synth on the buildup to the second drop.

• And the overall sounds that decorate the drop.

This is the definition of Audible Gold. Absolute MASTERWORK of a song. The use of energy and transition of sounds is unlike anything else out there.

Put it on repeat and try pulling it apart. You’ll hear new layers for hours.

The message with this one is important. We have developed an insane obsession with both computers and phones (smaller computers).

Is it not an obsession? Think about how you feel when you don’t have your phone near you.

It’s called nomophobia (no-mobile-phone phobia). Broad international meta-analyses estimate that up to 94% of the general population exhibits some level of mild to severe distress.

And it's not surprising why. You get a device that :

• Keeps you entertained and feeling rewarded.

• Knows everything, so it reduces cognitive load and can make you feel smarter

• Has all your friends at your fingertips and lets you meet new ones.

• Knows all your information and can cater everything to your tastes

And more importantly than all, it lets you escape reality AND create a new one.

Add AI into the mix, and you have a supercharged machine that not only knows you but can interact and act on your behalf.

Hell, I’d even argue that in 2026 it’s possible TO fuck your computer.

On the other side of the coin, AI is making it os more people want to RETURN to reality.

Not only that, but there are plenty of movements out there to reduce this reliance and connection to computers.

Things like digital detox, dumb phones, and living off the grid.

Unfortunately, we’re so intertwined with technology that it’s become an extra limb.

You use it for work, you use it to pay, and in certain places, you use it to exist.

Regardless, the divide between tech maximalists and tech minimalists is growing.

Only time will tell, but the healthiest thing you can do is develop boundaries and a relationship with the tool that is the computer.

And hey, let’s not start fucking computers, eh?

CSIRAC

If there's something Ninajirachi is good at it’s building expectations and working with energy.

This one has a bit more of a club sound. It’s darker and minimalist.

The only way I can interpret the lyrics is the discovery and process of creating music.

It starts with a simple idea and then gets built on through multiple iterations.

I gotta say, I love songs that take you on a journey.

For example: the second drop. It pays off the setup that’s been building for the whole song by adding a dash of energy and impact.

And it does this by literally saying “and then came the noise”

It’s the little details that make this genre fun.

This song is the golden finish and a good setup for a very important part of the album.

Now the lore behind this title is really cool.

CSIRAC is the first computer to play computer music all the way back in 1950.

That wasn’t the only contribution Australia made.

Because in late 1970s when digital audio workstations (DAWs) appeared, Fairlight built the Fairlight CMI in Sydney. It introduced digital waveform editing and software sequencing that heavily influenced modern DAW architecture.

Maybe it’s the catalyst for why Australians can produce such amazing electronic music.

The wonderful thing about electronic music is how little limits there are to it.

You can put head noise into audible form in hours. You can express emotions in ways that instruments fall short in.

Might speak for myself but this genre is the best in the world for that reason.

And it’s a genre that exists and thrives thanks to computers.

You make it in a computer.

You send it to the internet.

You download and listen to it through a computer (or your phone).

Hell, even performing it has to be done through a computer (for this argument I’ll consider a deck as a computer)

And such is the magic of the genre. It’s a mix of innovation and passion to its purest form.

For all the faults the internet has, electronic music isn’t one of them.

Delete

Relationships shape most of your life.

So it’s no surprise that the Internet’s biggest impact has been on how we relate to each other.

Now everyone has access to everyone. In all of the history of mankind, it’s never been easier to:

• connect with someone from a different continent.

• build (and destroy) a relationship that changes your life.

• Find friends and romantic partners out of the almost 5 billion people who use the internet.

• Make mating rituals we have used for thousands of years more grandiose and permanent.

SO WHY IS THERE A LONELINESS CRISIS?

I’m not talking on the romantic side of things but in general.

This song talks about a late-night thirst trap. You can switch that definition for literally any attempt to start communication.

Love and the fear of being alone push us to do irrational things in the attempt to prove that time and energy are best spent with you.

Mix in endless options, feeds that reward competition, and the hope that “the right person sees it,” and you’ve got a new playbook for relationships.

Status games increased tenfold. Before, you had to pull up to the person’s house, maybe bring a couple mates to accomplice whatever plan you cooked up, and hope for the best.

Now, a picture on a story and hope the right person will see it is the play. Gotta post it at the right time, with the right song, with enough context that the person will HOPEFULLY do the action you hoped.

Of course, no one will remember the embarrassing thing you did; that’s a fact.

But if they wanted to find it, the internet will remember and show it to whoever looks for it.

Everything is permanent now.

Digital footprint used to be one of those things that older generations warn us about, and now it feels like a laughing stock.

Outside of relationships,s people are doing insane and unhinged things to get attention and “make it online”

Turning attention into a currency has made it so getting the right kind of attention can change your life for the better while the wrong kind of attention ruins it for years.

So what’s the solution to all of this? Where is this going?

I don’t know.

In my opinion? Nowhere. It’s going to keep growing and going through the same cycle it always has.

Younger generations will create unhinged and silly trends while adults scoff, act confused, and then try to implement it themselves in a way to “stay cool and relevant”

As for relationships, that is something that can only be fixed individually after all; there are people everywhere, not just online.

So get out there, use common sense, and be a human being. That’ll get you farther both inside and outside the internet.

Alright, on to the song.

I got an unhealthy obsession with this song.

It decorated many days in Japan and Korea. It’s also single-handedly turned me into an audiophile.

This is what I would consider

The chords are perfect, the way the song progresses is amazing, and the drop is addictive.

It's another one of those that gets your energy and doesn't let it go.

That is something that makes this album amazing. From start to finish, it weaves the energy so it’s only natural that you keep listening.

This is one of my favorite songs of 2025 and is on regular rotation.

The melody is just too good. The sounds are pristine and the more I analyze it, the more details I find.

This is a song that I hope never gets deleted and is a must-listen to anyone that’s an electronic music fan.

This makes for 2 pieces of Audible gold in this album.

This is the intro song to “All I Am”.

Skipping it feels like a crime given how it builds up the upcoming song and how it carries the energy from “Delete”

I love how perfectly it introduces the next song by slowly and surely adding more energy to it.

The starting guitar is a nice starting point and serves as a break to all the synthy sounds we’ve been exposed to.

And that piano? It lives rent-free in my mind.

THIS is how you build hype for a song.

But the real magic of this song comes in the connection.

Call me silly, but I’m going to overread a simple line to make a point.

“So choose me the way I want it”

This always‑on connection gives us the feeling of knowing someone based on what they choose to reveal.

This is something I’ll talk more about in the next song, but there are times when we build expectations about someone, and then act disappointed when reality hits, and it’s not the dream they shared online.

For some it’s crushing, but it’s something everyone gets hit with.

But after a while it becomes a relief.

Realizing that no one has it together and they’re just as flawed as you will help you put things in perspective.

Of course, a lot of people are scared of being real. So they create personas and facades to get approval from everyone.

This is naturally hard to maintain, especially as a music artist.

The expectations are always there. You either build something familiar or risk alieanting your fanbase.

So I’m going to leave you with a question that we’ll unpack in the next song:

Can you truly accept others as they are?

All I Am

Another fun thing the Internet has brought us (but this is more of a social media thing) is the fake realities we all create of ourselves.

Social media rewards performance, so we build versions of ourselves for the feed.

We act, text, and posture in ways we’d never choose offline.

We follow scripts to “say the right thing,” and we shape personas around whatever gets more internet points.

There is a huge authenticity crisis. Way before AI, people always pretended to be SOMETHING to get general acceptance and status.

Of course, most people are getting burnt out on this, and you'll see a bit of a swing towards more "authentic" personas.

But as long as the attention economy persists, personalities are for sale.

Copying is an inherently natural trait. Unfortunately, everyone's copying everybody. The second someone is authentic, someone else will copy it (or try do it better).

I would say that AI will add a whole other layer to this. Entire personas created to copy someone that doesn’t exist.

A perfect machine that people will aspire to without knowing it’s AI.

Hell, there’s tech that lets you grab content from someone else, and replace the original person with an AI avatar.

Social media is a race to the bottom. If you find yourself wanting to build connections, there is a solution.

Be the GOOD parts of yourself. There's already too much bad out there.

And to answer the question posed in the song before this one:

You’ll be able to accept others as they are when YOU accept yourself as all you are.

On to the song.

I never imagined that hearing the same vocal cords over and over would be this addicting.

But MAN the energy in this is fantastic.

I heard this a lot while in Kyoto, and it always helped start the day with energy.

There's something magical about letting your brain get lost in the "hey hey hey eyo eyo eyo hey"

If you don't like it the first time, it's something that will creep up on you. I also didn't think much of the song until it randomly started playing in my head one morning.

The intro also really helps build up to it. Those pianos, man, they really hook you into the song.

It’s very playful and something you can likley play on a road trip to get the energy going.

If I can describe this song as a feeling, it would be: freedom and exploration.

Infohazard 

By reading this review, you've consumed more information than the average person living in the medieval ages did in their lifetime.

As amazing as unlimited information is, there’s an underlying problem with it.

There's just too much of it.

Data overload is an issue.

The human desire for knowledge is insatiable; it’s never been easier to know everything about anything. But that doesn’t always translate into practicality.

You also can’t disconnect from it.

THE RISK OF MISINFORMATION IS ALSO HUGE.

You can learn the wrong thing quickly and risk harming yourself or others.

The second thing I want to talk about is the insane amount of snuff Crap out there.

I grew up on the LiveLeak era. Gore was this really cool thing you'd watch with your friends as competition on who could find the most fucked up thing out there.

Of course that's a race to the bottom.

And seeing so much death at an early age, it kinda desensitized you to it. Of course now there's more protection for it. It’s not cool anymore. That's a GOOD thing.

Regardless, there will always be people posting that. Innocence is something that will be getting lost faster and faster.

I also think it has to do with the insane amount of detachment and apathy to the world around us. There’s so much to care about and not enough energy to do so.

But it is a fact that up to now the Internet brings reality up to speed.

Reality of death, the addiction to porn, and if you're not careful enough, the risk of meeting evil people who can influence you into doing terrible things.

Now with AI, the hazard is at an all-time high.

Combine the rapid feeds with rapid creation, and you get low-effort content that actively makes your brain shrink and waste energy.

I’ve read multiple reports of the internet becoming a reality on its own where you can’t tell if something is real or not.

That is going to create the biggest hazards of all: mass control over beliefs that aren’t real.

There really isn’t a straightforward solution.

Heavily curating, switching to more text-heavy forms (like email, wink, wink), and having specific consumption blocks are some strategies you can use.

I hope this brain dump helps you in some way. Stay safe out there.

That said…

This is a magical song.

It’s rare to find progressive songs that have good payoffs. (In the electro house realm)

This was the song that got me excited for the album and one that helped me get to the peak of Mt Fuji.

Ninajirachi is a master at making drops that will get you moving. This is a masterclass on expectation management.

It's such a satisfying payoff that it leaves you wanting more. The innocent-sounding intro will never prepare you for a drop of this magnitude.

I also love how it increases in energy with every passing minute.

The lyrics are also an accurate representation of the loss of innocence and hitting the wrong places on the internet.

The feeling this song gives: exploring the internet before getting thrown into a vortex of information after clicking one wrong link.

Songs like these make electronic music my favorite type of Infohazard.

Battery Death

If you haven’t noticed up to this point, every song is a demonstration of the concept she’s exploring.

The song sounds like a dying device. Starting slowly, with constant glitches, speeding up, and freezing before crashing for good.

I don’t know how she managed to describe my current year-old phone, but this is spot on.

As with every other song, the sound design is good, and the production is incredible.

This song keeps you on your toes. You never know what to expect.

A nice little detail is how the song slows down to prepare you for what’s coming next.

And that is something I have to give a lot of props for. There was a lot of thought put into the energy and flow of every song.

Nina knows when it's time to speed up and when it’s time to slow down.

Unlike the world.

Allow me to go on a bit of a rant on the "advancement" of technology.

Disclaimer: I am NOT against progress. Evolution will always be net positive.

The problem is the planned obsolescence of devices and the rate of change.

To begin, there are such an insane amount of batteries out there; lithium ain’t the most "chill” of elements, and virtually everything has a lithium battery now.

There are billions upon billions of devices, cars, and appliances with batteries slowly decaying with no real plan on how to dispose of them.

Even more, the rise of data centers has expanded this problem into a building that siphons water and electricity at an industrial scale.

It’s also insane how fast everything has been moving and evolving.

Older generations have gone from brick no-screen phones to AI in 30 years. There is no way to explain or comprehend the amount of change the average 40-year-old has seen.

New devices every year, new wearables, new AI, new this, new that.

Literally everything is moving too fast; it's not only overwhelming but sometimes impossible to keep up with. And with the increased risk of falling behind, the race to adopt and “be in the know” gives another layer of stress.

It’s like we’re all part of an experiment and have to pay the bill to run it.

On the topic of batteries… well, recycle as many devices as you can.

Let’s hope the ones in charge know what to do with the insane amount of batteries waiting to expire.

Welcome to a much-needed break.

This song that focuses more on the actual lyrics and story.

And I think this small insight and lore into how she got here gives the album more life and depth.

It also has one of the most inspirational messages for creating something and a case study for becoming who you want to be.

I'll just post the lyrics to the song. Listen along and you’ll understand what I mean:

The magical thing about living in this era is the ability to amplify your talents and cover your shortcomings.

And that philosophy of “I can’t sing good, but I’m still gonna try it” can be a mantra to carry you through the uncertainty and achieve whatever you want.

The internet gives you the ability to find opportunities, and the computer gives you a path to make them happen

If you’re still unsure, maybe knowing that the internet gives you unlimited chances may help.

Even if you fail once, you have the feedback to keep iterating, trying, and getting better.

So if you can't sing well, or write well, or falsely believe that you can’t do anything well…

Allow the internet to help you close those gaps where you fall short and supercharge the things you are good at.

Now go do amazing things and experience the magic of creation for yourself.

It's You

It’s been a wild couple of years with the advent of AI.

A lot of the early promises have simply not been able to happen, and as of August 2026 the models seem to be getting WORSE.

It seems that tech makes plenty of promises it can’t keep. And when they work, it comes with a heavy price.

For example:

Allowing unlimited connection while also increasing loneliness.

Making more things possible while eroding meaning and purpose.

Democratized information while amplifying misinformation.

Made entertainment instant while flattening its quality.

Promoted convenience while shaving away competence.

Provided an escape from reality while creating an even more dangerous one

And whenever it’s brought up, there’s a couple of minutes of outrage before it gets swept under the rug.

Or if the overlords are feeling generous, they “add more,” which made things worse.

The solution is actually revealed in the song.

Which (if you’re listening to the album in one go) brings the energy back smoothly.

This is the only track without Nina’s vocals. It’s her friend daine, who’s also a talented singer.

This one leans late‑2000s/early‑2010s electronic. Slow build that lifts into energy with the chorus and stays high until the end.

It’s a very fun song and one that keeps you dancing. I think as a breakup song it might do wonders.

This also showcases Nina’s ability to play with vocals and keep them in sync with the rest of the song.

It might not sound impressive, but if you listen to a lot of electronic music, you know how often vocals get tossed on top and sound disjointed.

The theme I’m reading here is coming to terms with what the internet can and can’t do. Being able to see it for what it is and breaking free from that reality it builds.

As amazing as it is, the internet is only a tool that will amplify who you are. It can provide solutions, but it can’t fix you or all your problems.

At the end of the day, that’s all on you. But there are billions of dollars invested in making you feel like a fix is a device, course, or item away.

This is something we'll explore in the next song.

And let me tell you, the way it connects with the last song jumps at you.

All At Once

Last songs are usually the hardest to land. Everything you've built up and the expectations are high.

Well, this one lands PERFECTLY.

The sound design on this one stands tall. This feels more like a showcase of what Nina is able to do with sound.

The start is chaotic, as if you’re experiencing the internet day to day.

Everything is taking away your attention while slowly and surely you build focus and bring it back to what matters.

It’s a beautiful soundscape that plays on everything we’ve heard so far. It’s like the soul of the album.

The vocals also give it a golden touch that prepares you for a smooth landing.

And as the song slowly comes to an end, everything you’ve experienced so far starts compressing, leaving you with an odd and fleeting feeling

“Satisfaction”

I’ve done my best to explore the most important ways the internet and computers have changed humanity as a whole.

The one that is missing is the most important one :

The feeling of never being able to catch up.

Seeing strangers and friends “do better” than you, keeping up with innovation, being sold “the next big thing that will fix your life forever” at every scroll.

All of these are things you and I are exposed to every waking minute.

And it’s exhausting.

But I want to end this whole spiel by saying: You are okay as you are. Today, right now, all your experiences are valid and you are not behind.

The principles for a good life stay the same: Be kind, useful, and good at something.

The internet and computers are just tools to get you closer to what you want, faster and with greater ease of access.

I think above all, this song wrapped up the album perfectly.

Why?

Because after the satisfying feeling fades…

You want MORE.

I, for one, can't wait to see what Ninajirachi does next.

Conclusion. 

All throughout this album, Nina perfectly describes what it’s like to live in this digital age. Not only that, every song DEMONSTRATES the concept she’s going for.

The most amazing thing about her lyrics is that they’re perfect descriptions of experiences. None feel corny or fake. You’re left with this “yeah, I agree” feeling.

The way it keeps the energy perfectly balanced all throughout is an impressive feat.

Porter Robinson said that she’s the future of music, and I agree.

She’s one of the best artists of this generation.

This album deserves the Trash of the Year award for 2025 and a spot in my top 10 all-time favorite albums.

It still holds true in 2026. A year that’s barreling towards endless nostalgia.

Looking back, this album may have been the one to open the gates to a scene that is looking for more of that old school sound.

As for the future of the internet and computers…

Only time will tell. But I believe we are going to see a resurgence in the outside and in personal relationships.

Things will be bad for a bit, no doubt about it.

But as long as music like this keeps being made, everything will be okay.

Things always work out in a long enough time frame after all.

It’s 5am.

Somehow the sun is up, and there’s enough daylight for it to look like 10am.

I rush to Shinjuku Station…

Buy 6 gallons of water while waiting for the bus…

And hop on the bus sitting all the way at the back (it had the most legroom)

Not even 5 minutes after the bus starts departing…

I’M OUT LIKE A LIGHT.

A “few seconds” later I wake up in a rush.

I look around and see that the bus has stopped.

Some people are getting off.

In my sleepy haze I also decide to get off.

Unsure of where the hell I am and finding to signs naming the station, I try ask the driver:

“Is this Kawaguchiko station?”

“あいつが何言ってるのか分からない。”

“Kawaguchiko station, it’s here right?” I say while pointing at the led screen on the bus that’s flashing the name.

“彼が何と返信したのか、全く見当がつかない。”

“So yes or no?”

“彼はひどく苛立っていた。”

“Yes?”

He then pointed to the open bag compartment, signaling to get my bag.

At this point my understanding is that this is the stop. So I grabbed my bag.

Just as I see the bus leave, I look behind me and see a theme park.

Crap.

I opened my phone to find the pickup destination for the tour and see..

That I (once again) got off at the wrong station.

Except this time, it’s the middle of NOWHERE.

So it seems I pissed off the driver and he left me here…

Thankfully, this was also one of the pickup spots for the tour.

And so I sit on a bench for an HOUR waiting for the pickup van.

That’s where the squad gets introduced:

• The tour guide

• A family of 3 British Creatures

• An abnormal Australian

• A family of 4 Americant’s

And me.

We stop by a 7-Eleven to stock up on last-minute supplies and get cash.

I buy a sandwich, some snacks, and 4 more gallons of water…

Aaaaaand forget to pull out more money.

An hour later, we’re at the bottom of Mt Fuji.

The plan is simple:

5 sprints of 40-60 minutes hikes, stopping at every rest station.

No biggie! I trained for this by going up stairs and doing the treadmill!

This is a PIECE OF CAKE.

Well, the hike from the base to the first checkpoint went by pretty fast.

Even though it’s kinda easy, the strong wind adds a bit of a challenge. Dust and rocks are flying everywhere and hitting your face.

Even more, the terrain is also a bit slippery and it’s easy to trip.

Can’t lie, the playlist was doing most of the heavy lifting. (Especially today’s song)

And so was I.

Because for whatever reason I carried 8 GALLONS OF WATER IN AN ALREADY HEAVY BACKPACK.

Not only that…

• It was my first time hiking EVER

• I’m from Florida so there are 0 mountains to practice (not to mention the altitude difference)

• I’m on 4 hours of sleep.

So by all means, I’m out of my depth.

At least the view is nice…

I wasn’t the only one though.

Because by the second checkpoint, 2 American’ts didn’t want to climb further.

Then (to not make this email longer than it is), after 6 hours of hiking, tripping twice, and repeating “left to right, left to right, left to right” in my head for the last three hours…

We made it to the hut where we were going to spend the night.

“Alright guys, welcome to the hut. There’s an all-you-can-eat curry and rice, but don’t eat too much or you’ll get altitude sick! Don’t stay up too late either. Wake up is at 4 tomorrow.”

My legs are a WRECK at this point. It’s a miracle my back hasn’t blown out.

That didn’t matter now.

It was time to eat. Get some oxygen (my Florida Man ass was NOT getting altitude sickness) and prepare for bed.

But not before getting some pictures!

Fun Fact: the action camera was running out of storage at this point.

Photography is my passion

And at 8pm, I was snug as a bug being rocked to sleep by the wind hitting against the building.

And so, 72 hours into the trip, it’s time to sleep for more than 4 hours.

American’t bleach.bath is one of those artists with an expansive discography you can get lost in.

This song came shortly before the trip started, and became an instant addition to the playlist.

It’s also become a mantra that carried me through sticky situations.

The song follows an addictive, continuous beat that’s full of energy.

From first listen it sticks to your brain. You can also have it on repeat without getting tired.

Probably one of my all time favorites from bleach.bath.

This is a good baptism for this phenomenal artist.

It’s day 2.

1. Woke up at 6am.

2. Collected a mystery package for tomorow’s adventure.

3. Took the wrong train twice.

4. Developed a deep hatred towards Google craps Maps

5. Went to Meiji Jingu Temple

   

6. Found this hidden gem of a shrine called Yasukuni-jinja Shrine

   

7. Went to the Imperial Palace. Got lost there for a good hour without being able to find the actual palace. Didn’t get a SINGLE good picture/video. Talked to a girl about her experience in Japan as a foreigner living there.

8. Went to the Monster Hunter cafe and got this weird monster pizza thing.

9. Ate whatever this mystery meat was.

10. Bought a portable battery!

11. And rushed once again to make it to Tokyo Tower in time for the sunset.

Here’s something you have to learn about your good host Hz.

For better or worse…

I enjoy balling out.

As such, I booked the Diamond Tour for Tokyo Tower.

A smooth $80 difference from the regular ticket.

No biggie! I love towers and gladly pay for them.

The tour itself was… kinda cool.

BUT NOT WORTH THE AMOUNT PAID.

Regardless, we make it to the top deck just in time for the sunset to see…

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FROM HOW CLOUDY IT IS.

Yet, seeing the city lights come to life as the sun sets is a top 3 experience in Japan.

However, I have a problem.

The music phone is dead and the main phone is at 10%.

Good thing I bought the portable battery!

Then I connect it to my phone and realize…

The battery has no charge out the box.

Except this time I wrote the address in my handy pocket notebook!

I just have to figure out the trains!

How hard is it going to be to find the train stations?

…

It didn’t take long to realize how BAD a situation this is.

So I did something unimaginable:

Talk to strangers to find out if I can bum a battery off one.

Problem: I DON’T SEE A SINGLE FOREIGNER WHO SPEAKS ENGLISH.

So I go in circles for a good 30 minutes, enjoying the nighttime.

Forgive the weird blue lights. Photography is my passion.

That’s when I hear someone speak Spanish.

It was a pair of friends traveling together.

THIS IS IT.

I approached to ask what their favorite sight from the tower is, and we hit it off.

10 Minutes into the conversation, I pop the question

“Hey do you have a charger I can borrow? My phone is dead, and I gotta make it home.”

“Yeah sure!”

And so a friendship (and a route home) was born!

They took me to an area behind the tower to get this AMAZING picture.

After that, we headed to Shinjuku to walk around and ended up talking for a good 2 hours.

We exchanged numbers, planned to hang out again, and parted ways.

By the time I got home, it was 1am. The original plan was to sleep at 10pm.

Why so early?

Because if I don’t wake up at 5am tomorrow, a huge part of the trip is going to collapse.

When I first heard it it sounded silly.

6 months later I was using this concept to not end up homeless in a random city across the pacific.

Apashe - Lost in Mumbai

Belgian Beast Apashe is one of those hit-or-miss artists for me.

He either makes the best songs you’ve ever heard…

Or something that has insane production but misses the mark.

This song is an absolute HIT.

The composition is beautiful. There are so many details hidden in the back that you can spend a good hour analyzing the song and still find something new on the 10th listen.

The sounds are squeaky clean. The vocals add a depth that complements the song perfectly.

This feels like 3 songs in one. One of the most fun experiences this genre can offer.

💭 Quick Drivel

The best part of making playlists is putting them together. Playing around with how the starts and endings interact and complement each other to create the smoothest experience.

It’s even better when you have to SIT IN A PLANE FOR 15 HOURS.

I pretty much perfected the travel playlist within the first hour and had nothing to do for the remaining 14 hours but enjoy the tracks.

Now this would be day 1. To keep things “short” I’m going to bullet point it to give you an idea of how horrible amazing my planning is:

1. Get off the plane. Rush to the station to catch a train 5 minutes before it left.

2. Get lost for a good 10 minutes finding the Airbnb.

3. Drop everything off at the Airbnb and immediately rush to the Tokyo Skytree to watch the sunset. Made it after the sun was gone (still a beautiful sight)

   

4. Leave shortly after to make an hour train trip to Shibuya (at the other end of Tokyo) to make it in time for a reservation. Almost fell asleep on the train.

5. Lost the reservation by 20 minutes.

6. Did the Shibuya crossing thing since I was already there.

7. After getting rejected from 10 restaurants (it was nearly 10pm and everyone was closing), I ended up at a ramen place.

   

8. After the ramen place, I make my way back home, rushing as my phone is about to die.

And this is where the REAL fun begins.

It’s 12:00am.

Phone is dead.

No biggie. I’m on the right train line, and I remember the station name from a couple hours ago.

As the train stops, I get off at Sugamo Station, self-praising my amazing memory.

And so I make my way up the stairs…

Exit the station…

Look around thinking “ah yeah, my Airbnb should be right around this cor-”

My stomach drops.

I go down the road a bit further to get my bearings.

But it quickly becomes clear.

Yup. This ain’t my station.

Surely I went out the wrong exit! These places are huge.

So I pay the fee to go back in and waddle over to the other end.

… Except this one looks LESS like my station and leads to a dark alley.

Crap.

I see a train approaching on the south-bound track.

“Okay, no worries, I’m sure this one will take me to my station!”

So I get on… Wait for the next station…

And get off at Otsukaekimae Station!

“This surely is the ri-”

I look around and notice I’m more lost than I was 10 minutes ago.

Then I look at the timetable.

There are 2 trains left for the rest of the night.

Okay, no biggie, I’ll take the second northbound train back up to Sugamo. From there I have to figure out how to find the right train.

And so another shameful train ride later, I’m back at Sugamo station.

I play songs in my head to calm down…

And then it hits.

There’s a second phone.

The music phone.

But did I bring it? I thought I had left it charging.

So I desperately dig in my bag…

And find it.

It has 20% battery, no signal, and the lifespan of a cicada.

The next train is in 10 minutes. I have to find wifi and the address to the Airbnb in that time.

And so I run all across the station like a madman looking for free wifi.

But there’s nothing.

The phone is already at 10% and I’m starting to realize my situation.

So I lean against the wall of a closed coffee shop outside of the station. and start planning my future as a homeless man.

(Day 1 and I’m already lost in one of the biggest cities in the world.)

Then, the phone finds a free wifi connection.

It’s the coffee shops.

The catch? The connection is lost the second I move off the wall,

The last trains arrive in 5 minutes.

I frantically log in to airbnb, pull the address, and load Google Maps.

The right station?

IT’S THE NEXT [REDACTED] STOP ON THE NORTH LINE.

There’s 2 minutes left.

The train approaches the station. This is it.

So I start running…

Practically smashing the card against the reader so the checkpoint gates don’t close as I sprint…

I almost trip running down the stairs…

And make it into the train just in time.

One stop later I’m in the right place.

To this day the station name is engraved in my mind.

Komagome Station.

And thus concluded the first day.

The “isn’t this common knowledge?” signal today is:

1. PACK A PORTABLE BATTERY.

In my defense, the phone was a couple of months old. I did not expect it to start dying after a couple hours of use.

I don’t know what it is about phones the moment you step outside of your city. It’s like the battery decides to also go on vacation and die 3 after 3 hours of use.

In any case. lesson learned.

Zeds Dead - Light

Canadian Cretin duo Zeds Dead has been a staple in the music diet for the last 11 years.

Their output-to-quality ratio is unmatched. 

This song is no exception.

It was the founding song in last year's playlist.

Aside from that, it came out at one of my lowest points and helped inspire a path forward.

This song has everything a starter for a generational album has:

A beautiful start that gets you hooked.

A hypnotic buildup that builds on the start.

And a finish that you don't see coming

My best guess to this is that they emulated the beginning of light in an audible form.

Even if they didn't, this song is phenomenal.

Highly recommended.

This will probably be too aggrandizing for most, so feel free to skip this portion for the next 44 days. Unless you want a masterclass on how NOT to plan and go on a trip 

The biggest gamble and wildest experience started a year ago today.  

The mission was simple: take a trip to Japan in an attempt to feel something again to light a fire under my ass

And instead of being a normal person and doing things right by:

• Planning a year in advance

• Having enough savings to have relaxing time

• Do literally anything to what was done

I just bought a one way ticket to Tokyo 6 months in advance (better than 2024s one month in advance)

It was simple in my head: Stay in my job, do some side gigs, get enough money to relax! (I was semi-broke at this time, lol)

Then I got fired from my job.

So then the next 4 months were filled with the most stressful but rewarding grind ever!

And then out of nowhere it was August 4.

4 am. 4 hours of sleep (thanks to packing for a month-long trip last minute) and the inability to process what was happening.

And so it began, as it always does:

Last minute, without an actual plan, but still hopeful that “things will work out somehow”.

And in many ways that I’ll be exploring in the next 44 days…

IT DID-ish.

Now it would be irresponsible to recommend something like this.

It goes without saying but DONT DO THIS.

There are healthier and better ways to inspire change when you feel stuck.

The one that's been hammered over and over this past year comes in two parts 

I'll share the first part today in the signal

Due to terrible file keeping, I'll start brain-dumping the stuff I've gathered and internalized 

The first part of behavior change comes from BJ Fogg in his PHENOMENAL book Tiny Habits 

(Yeah, bear with the name. It doesn't sound the best.)

A concept that stuck is:

"People change when they feel good."

Yeah it’s basic and boring. And it also checks with the behavioral principle of

“Rewarding actions are more likely to be repeated.”

So maybe the best way to change today is: instead of beating yourself up for “falling into the same old destructive habits”

Start being grateful for when you don’t actively do them.

Might sound silly until you give it a try.

Alright lets’s get this MONDAY… relaxed.

After yesterday’s ambient pick, there were a lot of random recommendations in the same vein.

And so I found today’s artist as another critter from the United Kingdom.

Except this time it’s a British Creature who specializes in soundscapes you’d hear in one of those binary beat museums.

Don’t let that description scare you away. This is a beautiful track.

I don’t know how but it sounds like the ocean.

Simple, synthy, and relaxing enough to get you in a state of calm.

Give it a shot, I’ve made the mistake of playing this a little bit too close to bedtime and now I’m feeling drowsy.

But this as a “break” song can help settle down an otherwise crazy day.

Results may vary of course.

Aether - Limbo

Alright it’s Sunday so here’s the drill:

It’s been a (hopefully not for you) long week.

August has officially started and DAMN is the year going fast.

So why not take a chance to slow things down with a slower track.

And by slower I mean AMBIENT slow.

This is by a Stingy Scottish artist Aether.

His ambient works are unlike any other.

He has the perfect combination of melody and ambiance.

This song will build you up into a relaxed state before sending you into a trance with some incredible sounds that I won’t spoil here.

And once the sounds fill you with a new emotion, it will gracefully land the ending and let you move on with what you were doing before.

It’s an odd experience, and I invite you to give it a shot.

Today was the drive back from this weekend escape.

Even though it was a short one I couldn’t bring myself to play a single song.

So I sat there with the endless thoughts drowning out the road noise.

Might be a tacky thing to say, but silence is becoming a better friend the older I get.

It gave room for overdue thoughts to clear and find new paths.

There’s a reason why I bring it up though…

I’ve been with people who can’t live without some form of background noise from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to sleep.

One also required background noise to sleep.

Not to judge or say that it is wrong. Different minds have different requirements to function.

Hell, I might even give it a try for a week and report on the findings!

It’s plenty important to find what works for you.

That said, not giving yourself that space (even if its for 7 minutes) to sit in silence and let your brain do some “housekeeping” can be a big detriment.

So give it a shot on your next commute. Run the whole thing without a song or podcast or doomscroll. It might be what helps you find a solution to a long-seated problem, or even a small but annoying one.

And if it doesn’t…

At least you had an experiment you can reference and a new experience.

This weekend I went out of the hellscape that is Miami and explored some other areas in Florida.

It’s insane to see the amount of construction that’s been taking place over the past couple of years.

Also jarring to see how affordable everything is the second you step out of Miami.

I don’t have a smooth connection to make (frankly the hour snuck on me, lmao) so here’s the attempt at a cohesive piece of drivel.

Things aren’t static or show up out of nowhere.

There is growth and progress everywhere.

Of course, most changes don’t immediately affect you, but then, suddenly, the things that used to be certain seem to disappear.

And by that point, there’s not much to do but adapt.

It might be an “duh, that is so obvious it's insulting,” but sometimes it’s easy to get locked into the way things are now and assume they will stay the same.

So it’s good to take a look around at what’s different, maybe it can help find new opportunities.

Saw this video today. I think it also encapsulates the idea of things evolving in the background.

I also think that this plan was genius. From an investment perspective this is a complete loss. Which is why it wasn’t immediately overrun with investment groups picking them all up.

Instead the people who decide to go with it get a new home that they mean to live for and contribute to the town.

It’s an interesting perspective on the experiment and also heartwarming.

The final Fridee of July didn’t hold back.

It’s probably the most we’ve ever sent.

However I was decently surprised by all the new findings.

It seems the industry is shifting towards that Kettama style house. Not that its bad, but uh, yeah, lmao.

Bit of a “come on man, this ain’t even underground” track today.

This is from British Creatures Burial and Four Tet.

It’s probably one of the simplest yet most beautiful songs I’ve heard this month.

Every sound is silky smooth and intentional.

I definitely gotta find more “day friendly” songs as this is the perfect song to listen on a balcony late at night, seeing the lights from builidings close and far glimmer.

The most impressive part is how it combines Burial’s dark sound with Four Tets positive rhythm.

And what results is a song that leaves you wondering why you didn’t find this before.

Look. I tried breaking the curse.

In my defense, there’s also an American’t in the mix.

Not only that, as much as I resisted it, it may be time to succumb to the Nostalgia Year.

And that’s because this song by Abnormal Australian Ninajirachi has done it again.

Releasing the best album of 2025 wasn’t enough.

This is full on electro house with some of the cleanest composition I’ve heard.

This is EASILY going on my TOP 3 best singles of the 2026.

So even if you’re not a fan of the early 2010s sound.

You can focus on the MASTERWORK production this song offers.

But this is, in my humble opinion, a must-listen. (Though it might be a bit too noisy for some)

I was reading some lore from this song which went like this:

“It’s an extra special moment for Ninajirachi, who saw Robinson play Sydney’s Enmore Theatre at her first-ever concert as a teenager. Just over a decade later in 2026, she returned to the same stage to headline her own sold-out show, providing a proper full-circle moment for the producer.”- Rolling Stone Australia

Now you can call it a weird form of fate, but through one way or another, I’ve been fortunate enough to meet a lot of people I’ve looked up to.

Which has led to evidence that “Meeting your heroes” is one of those things that aren’t… as hard as it seems.

Sure, there are 2 ways to do this:

1. Pure chance (though you can stack it in your favor)

2. Pay2win

I’ve found that the second option is always worth it, regardless of the outcome.

Now of course, if your hero is someone like Taylor Swift…

Well, you get 2 kidneys for a reason.

Now mind you, it doesn’t even have to be an in-person thing; even by sending an email or DM and getting a response might be enough.

People are kinder and more open than you might realize.

And if you already knew that…

Over the past couple of days, I’ve been doing something crazy...

I’ve been asking for help.

At first it was very odd. Who the hell has time to answer my thousand-word questions?

(If you think these emails waffle on, you don’t know how bad it gets.)

And so the other day I wrote a post asking for help (which took 2 days, as usual) and looked at the “post” button for a good 10 minutes.

Then I decided “f*ck it, we ball”, posted it, and closed the page as if I had left a backpack bomb in a bus stop.

Then…

Nothing happened for hours. Which is strange, given how active the place usually is.

That’s where the feelings of doubt started.

“See, you knew this was stupid. Stop embarrassing yourself.”

And so I deleted the whole thing into the ether…

Except that on my way to do that, I got sidetracked, forgot about it, and then it was bedtime.

So the next morning I remembered with embarrassment and went to the post to erase it.

Only to find some people who kindly took the time to reply and not only give guidance but a whole SOLUTION to test.

Of course, a one time thing wasn’t enough to undo years of past experiences.

So I decided to ask a bit more. Surely this time no one will reply and my feelings will be final!

Then someone gave ANOTHER helpful answer to try.

No way right? Surely if I ask a third time it will surely be rejected. I’ll be laughed out of the room and -

“Hey do you mind if we tackle your problem on a call tomorrow?”

…

Well…

That happened a couple hours ago.

And it goes to show that no feeling is final. Not even those that bring you down.

So now I pass the ball to you.

Sure, it’s a nice story.

But is it going to be one of those you read and go, “Must be nice” and then move on…

Or is it one that will help you try something new.

There’s no wrong answer. If you read this long its for a reason, and it’s not to dismiss something that could help you get unstuck.

Not that its a bad thing, but WOW.

This one is no different.

It’s dark, gritty, with that late night warehouse rave vibe.

Something that lets you get lost in the sound while the sun is gone.

Yeah so.

Odd day, came back home and one way or another got stuck watching tiktok for

2 hours.

Deep house is one of those hit or miss genres (at least for me).

Abnormal Australian Holo seems to hit that perfect mix between simplicity and detail.

This song also has some of the best trumpet usage I’ve heard in some time.

It’s the perfect mood to grab a drink (water counts too, in my case), sit down at a cozy place, and do nothing.

If you’re looking to unwind from a long week, this song will start it for you.

It’s been a crazy week filled with random events and big decisions.

An enormous weight has been lifted just to be replaced by a bigger one.

Many people tell you to avoid failure since it can be financially and emotionally crushing.

I’ve found that success usually comes with a higher price. It becomes a game of maintaining and even pushing past those previous limits.

Of course, the reward is much better. One should not want to be a failure.

But after this week, failure now has a spot of respect. Sometimes its okay to fail in things that you don’t want.

What is something you want to succeed in next week?

Take a second to write that question down. Even if you don’t find an answer right away, your brain will find one for you.
