A few months ago, we made a decision. The feedback from our early community had been generous and honest, and we took it seriously. People told us what was working and what wasn't, and rather than patch around the edges, we used that input to make the leap we'd always intended to make. V3 is the result of that decision. V3 is live today. You can sign in right now and start creating.

Our ambition hasn't changed. It's the same thing it was when we started. We believe podcasting is one of the most direct ways to share an idea and have it felt by someone else. Every tool we build is designed to remove a barrier between a creator and their audience. The more stories that get told, the more we all gain from hearing them.

V3 is our most complete attempt thus far to live up to that intention. It's built around the creator using it, what they're trying to make, and what gets in their way. And like everything we build, it will keep getting better.

What we built

When we started Shanda, the thesis was simple. Podcasting is one of the most human ways to share an idea. But the tools around it were built for studios and engineers, not for the consultant who wants to extend their thought leadership, or the meditation teacher who records from their spare room, or the student using audio as part of their coursework. The friction was everywhere. We wanted to remove it.

This is the one I'm most proud of, and also the one that cost us the most. Building a multitrack, text-based editor in the browser is genuinely hard. A few years ago I read a quote somewhere that said “It's simple to make something complex and complex to make something simple.” We felt that every single day of this sprint. What we ended up with is an editor that is faster, more intuitive, and built around how creators actually work, not how engineers think creators work. We also overhauled the media library with better intro/outro music, ambient sounds, and sound effects, to compliment the templates across four categories with demo content.

What this took

I want to be honest about this part, because I think founders don't say it enough.

This was a significant undertaking. The technical lift was real. Our design, product, and engineering teams spent months solving problems that aren't visible in the product but that you'd absolutely feel if they weren't solved. Paul drove the product thinking with the kind of discipline that keeps a team focused on what actually matters to the person using it. Abdallah, Ruslan, and Vlad brought that vision to life on the engineering side, pushing through some of the hardest technical problems this kind of product demands.

Beyond the technical side, this project required a lot of conviction. As aforementioned,making something simple is complex and hard, and that complexity takes time to resolve, typically brings development cost overruns, and with those come capital constraints. It required conviction to push through all of that, and it required real sacrifices to bring this to market. And through all of it, the thing that kept us moving was exactly what I said at the top: the more stories that get told, the more we all gain from hearing them. That hasn't wavered.

We're also genuinely grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey, whether through the team's work internally, or through the feedback, encouragement, and patience of our early community. You shaped this more than you know.

What's next

The immediate focus is making sure V3 is solid, stable, and worth every minute of your time. After that, the roadmap has things I think you'll find genuinely exciting: a full rename, rebrand, collaboration features, clips, and a much larger template library. There's a lot more to come, and we're just getting started.

But the most important thing right now is your feedback. Use the product. Tell us what's missing. Tell us what surprised you. That input is what turns a good product into a great one.

Step 3: Edit Your Audio with Shanda

You’ve done the hard work—recorded a fantastic podcast episode, edited it to perfection, and now it’s sitting proudly on your desktop. So… what’s next?

Whether you’re launching your first episode or adding to an existing series, knowing how to manually upload a podcast on Shanda is an essential skill. In this post, we’ll walk you through the entire process using a real-world example from the Startup Stories podcast.

🧭 Step 1: Log into Your Shanda Studio Account

Start by logging into your account at shanda.studio. Once you’re in, head over to the "Shows" tab. This is where you’ll see all the podcasts you’ve created or are managing.

For this example, we’re working with a show called Startup Stories.

➕ Step 2: Add a New Episode

Click on the "Add New Episode" button.

You’ll typically be given two choices:

• From scratch: which takes you through the full creation and editing flow.

• Manually: which lets you skip straight to uploading a finalized episode.

If your episode is already edited and ready to go, select "Add Episode Manually."

📝 Step 3: Enter Episode Details

You’ll now see a form where you can:

• Enter your episode title (e.g. Community Workshop)

• Add a description (feel free to reuse the title or provide a more detailed summary)

This is also where you set the tone and context for your episode, so don’t skip this step—clear, compelling titles and descriptions help listeners find and connect with your content.

🔊 Step 4: Upload Your Audio File

Click "Upload New Audio" and browse to wherever you saved your finished episode. In our case, it was in the Downloads folder, titled Hands-On Learning.

Once selected, your file will begin uploading.

💡 Pro Tip: Make sure your audio is in an accepted format (usually MP3) and that it's named clearly so you can find it easily.

🖼️ Step 5: Add Cover Art

Visuals matter! Upload custom cover art for your episode to give it a branded, professional look. You can reuse your show’s logo or design unique thumbnails per episode.

In our demo, we chose the elephant logo from our image library.

✅ Step 6: Publish and Distribute

Once everything looks good, click "Add Episode." Congratulations—your episode is now uploaded on Shanda!

If your show is connected to platforms like Apple Podcasts or Spotify via your Shanda Studio RSS feed, your new episode will be automatically distributed. If not, make sure to set that up—Shanda provides an easy guide and walkthrough video right inside the dashboard.

2. Click Upload and select your audio file (from an interview, conversation, or voice memo).

3. Once uploaded, you’ll see your recording appear in the editor.

Step 2: Enhance Your Audio (Optional but Recommended)

To make sure your podcast sounds professional, you can use Shanda’s built-in audio enhancement to remove background noise and improve clarity.

1. Click Enhance Audio—this will automatically clean up your sound.

2. Play it back to review the improved version.

3. If it sounds good, save the enhanced track.

Step 3: Edit & Refine Your Episode

Editing is simple in Shanda:

1. Trim unwanted parts: Remove pauses, filler words, or unnecessary sections.

2. Fine-tune the transcript: Shanda provides a text-based transcript, allowing you to delete sections directly from the text.

3. Adjust the timeline: Drag sections to clean up your episode.

Step 4: Add Intro & Outro Music

Give your podcast a branded sound by adding intro and outro music.

1. Click Add Music and choose a track.

2. Adjust the volume so it blends naturally with your voice.

3. Save your changes and preview your episode.

Step 5: Add Title, Description, & Thumbnail

Your podcast needs clear and engaging metadata to attract listeners.

1. Enter your episode title (e.g., "Building Businesses at GV").

2. Write a brief description summarizing the episode.

3. Upload a thumbnail image for your podcast.

Step 6: Publish Your Podcast on Spotify & Apple Podcasts

Once your episode is ready, it’s time to distribute it to major platforms.

1. Click Publish and select Spotify.

2. Enter your podcast name (e.g., “Startup Stories”).

3. Fill in the description, category, and language settings.

4. Save your settings, and your show is live!

1. Click Copy RSS Feed from your Shanda dashboard.

2. Go to Spotify for Creators and log in.

3. Click Create a New Show → Select Add Show via RSS Feed.

4. Paste your Shanda RSS link, verify your details, and submit.

5. Apple will process your submission, and your show will be live soon.

🔹 Publishing to Apple Podcasts

1. Click Copy RSS Feed from your Shanda dashboard.

2. Go to Apple Podcasts for Creators and log in.

3. Click Create a New Show → Select Add Show via RSS Feed.

4. Paste your Shanda RSS link, verify your details, and submit.

5. Apple will process your submission, and your show will be live soon.

Step 7: Share Your Podcast & Keep Creating

Now that your podcast is live, share it with your audience! Post on social media, send it in newsletters, or embed it on your website.

Every time you record a new episode, simply upload it to Shanda, and within minutes, it’ll be published—no extra setup needed.
